LDAP Queries - Load balance - Cache

Hello,
i have configured LDAP Queries with Multiple-host-options: "Laod-balance". 2 LDAP hosts are defined in this querie
Can anyone tell me what happens if the defined LDAP hosts are not available?
Are users cached by Ironport appliance or is there always a new querie for every recipient?

It will keep going between the two. If you want it to use a primary unless it is unavailable, you would pick failover.
As for if both are unavailable, there is a configuration option on the listener that allows you to accept if ldap is unavailable. You will see your work queues grow until the ldap returns.
The ldap is cached if they are already in the list it knows about. You can setup information on how many entries to cache and for how long. Under ldapconfig->edit->pick the ldap server configuration->server->cache.

  • Any concern on persistent search through a load balancer?

We have access manager 7 installed which make use of persistent search. My understanding is that persistent search required to maintain a connection so that the server can refresh/update the client whenever entry in the result set changed. If we configure the system to connect to ldap through load balancer, will that cause any problem? What will happen if the load balancer refresh connection after a period of time? Or , if the original ldap server failed and the load balancer try load balance the client to another ldap server, will the persistent search still works?
Also, if the ldap server that the persistent search initially established connection with crashed, will the client get error message and in that case, is it the client's responsibility to re-run/retry the persistent search with other failover ldap server?
    Thanks,

Your best bet, even when using a hardware load balancer, is to front your DS instances with a pair of load-balanced Directory Proxy Servers. This way, you have physical redundancy at the load balancer level, and intelligent LDAP-aware load balancing at the proxy server level. DPS 6 is very nice in that you can split binds, searches, and updates amongst several backend DS instances, and the connection state is maintained by the proxy, not the DS instance (i.e. if an instance fails, you really shouldn't be forced to rebind, the proxy fails-over to another DS for searching).
We have our Directory Servers on a pair of Solaris 10 systems, each with a zone for a replicated Master DS, and another zone each for a DPS instance. The DPS instances are configured to round-robin binds/searches/updates/etc. among the DS master zones. This works out very well for us.

  • FRM-92101: Load Balancing Forms 10g with Web Cache

    Hi,
I´m having some problems with Oracle Forms and Webcache 10g and I was wondering if you
    could help.
Machines: (Pentium IV 2.6 GHz; 2GB RAM; 80GB HD)
    A. Red Hat Linux AS 2.1
Oracle AS 10g - Infrastructure Installation
    B. Windows 2000 Server - Service Pack 4
Oracle AS 10g - BI and Forms Installation (Using Infrastructure on machine A)
    C. Windows 2000 Server - Service Pack 4
Oracle AS 10g - BI and Forms Installation (Using Infrastructure on machine A)
I didn´t apply any Patchsets of Oracle AS 10g. My current version is 9.0.4.0 .
    Goal:
Use Oracle Webcache 10g on machine B for Load Balancing an Oracle Forms Application
    on machines B and C.
    Facts:
The Oracle AS 10g installation on the 3 machines was made without problems.
The Forms Applications are running without problems on both Forms servers in machine B and C.
    Symptoms:
I´m getting the following error when I try to acces the forms application through Webcache:
FRM-92101: There was a failure in the forms server during startup.
This could happen due to invalid configuration.
Please look in the web-server log file for details.
But, this error happens ONLY when BOTH OC4J_BI_Forms instances (machines B and C) are
    running.
When just one of the OC4J_BI_Forms is running everything works fine.
    Webcache Configuration:
I´ve followed Metalink note 207668.1: Configuring Web Cache as a Load Balancer for Application Servers
step by step to make the configuration of the following components:
    1. Configuration of the origin servers
    2. Configuration of Site definitions
    3. Configuration of Site to server mapping
After that, I´ve follwed the Metalink note 229900.1: Integrating and using Web Cache with Forms 9i for Load Balancing
step by step to make the configuration of the following components:
    4. Session Binding
Then I try to test the Load Balancing and I got the error FRM-92101 when both OC4J_BI_Forms
    instance were running.
I´ve searched Metalink and found note 268830.1: Webcache Won't Load Balance 2 Forms Instances.
Following the note instructions I did the following changes:
Added these lines at the end of HTTPD.conf (machine B):
    CookieTracking On
    CookieName myformscookie1
Added these lines at the end of HTTPD.conf (machine C):
    CookieTracking On
    CookieName myformscookie2
    In Webcache configuration:
I´ve Changed the default session binding from JSESSIONID to "ANY SET COOKIE" for the
    site's session binding.
But even after these changes I´m getting FRM-92101 error on the same conditions.
How can I solve this problem ?
    Thank you in advance.
    Marcus Santos.
    ([email protected])

Just ran into this problem last Tuesday, Nov.30 and applied the changes today.
My configuration is similar to yours: 9.0.4 web cache on machine A, 9.0.4 10gAS forms and reports standalone on machine B and C (not a cluster, no infra).
I appended the Cookie lines you mentioned in httpd.conf located in $ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/conf in both machines B and C.
One important thing you may have missed. After changing httpd.conf in each 9iAS instance, you need to make the change known to dcmctl so issue:
    dcmctl updateConfig -ct ohs
Then do the following for each 9iAS instance and it should be ready for webcache:
    dcmctl stop
    dcmctl start
Setup Any-set-Cookie in webcache instead of JSESSIONID and the whole thing should now work. You can run a form through machine A which will load balance to either machine B or C (which can both be up). Then, try shutting down 9iAS on machine B or C and run a form again. They now all work.

  • Caching across load-balance Webservers

My application uses a round-robin load balancing mechanism with 4 Webservers. We have just upgraded from 1.3 to 1.4.0_1 and have discovered that our jar caching only works for individual servers. E.g., if you go directly to the same webserver every time, the jars will not be re-downloaded - however if you go to each of the 4 servers, you will have 4 copies of the same jar file.
Note: this worked perfectly under 1.3. All the web content is EXACTLY the same on all of the servers. All of the jars have the same version number.
The Plugin documentation makes no mention of examining the server host IP for the jar content - only the jar version. So, my question is:
How can we prevent the jars from being downloaded multiple times?

  • Load-balancing of transparent cache + IP spoofing + RTSP + MMS not working

We have already in production an architecture with load-balancing of
    transparent cache + ip spoofing.
We are unable to do the same for streaming flows (MMS and RTSP).
We are doing PBR from our core network (2 * C6K) to redirect port 80, 554 and
1755 toward CSS boxes, same in our access router (2* Ciso7200).
In this config desired flows are redirected toward the CSS.
Then CSS should load balance the traffic toward our BlueCoat proxy-cache farm.
It's working fine for HTTP but we are unable to make it works for MMS and
    RTSP.
Note that we are requiered to use ECMP to perform IP Spoofing on the CSS, meaning we need 4 routes for each client subnet (one route toward upstream C6K, and 3 routes for each proxy cache). We use acl to get rid off looping condition.
Anyone who has already put in place Load-balancing of Streaming transparent cache + IP spoofing could give us some hint.
    Many thanks.
    Regards,
    Pierre Viennet

    Gilles, thanks for your input.
Here where we are at with streaming implementation:
    - HTTP on all type off client is working
    - RTSP: TCP 554 with Real Media client is working
    - RTSP: TCP 554 with WMP not working, but it's due to a bug in Bluecoat implementation, the proxy send an error when he see a request with ( User-Agent: WMPlayer ) for RTSP content.
    - MMS: TCP 1755 not working with IP spoofing enable on the proxy but OK without IP spoofing...
    - UDP 554: not working
    - UDP 1755: not working
I fully understand the limitation for UDP traffic.
But I don't see why it's not working for MMS over TCP traffic.
Note that I have the exact same configuration for RTSP and MMS.
Why is it not working for MMS with IP spoofing? Are you aware of a difference on the way CSS handle MMS flows? or a specificity of the MMS protocol?

  • Load balancing LDAP Servers

    Hi
Load balancing to be achieved on two LDAP Servers.
In CSS, round robin configuration is carried out between the LDAP Servers.
My query is when the client initiates the tcp connection to CSS VIP Address and which in turn redirected the request to server A termed as LDAP binding. During that and any activities like LDAP modify comunication from the client will the CSS sees that as different request and redirect it to the Server B( as Round robin configuration carried out) ?
Any help on this higly appreciated.
    Thanks & regards
    R.Sundara Rajan

If I am reading your question correctly, it sounds like you are asking if, once a TCP session is established to the VIP, if subsequent LDAP transactions from that connecting client will be load balanced.
The answer is no, once the TCP session is established, you will continue to use the same backend server until the TCP session ends(fin or rst or whatever).
Simply described in a healthy system, from TCP SYN to FIN everything will be directed to the same server.

  • Using Web Cache to Load balance Forms Server application.

    Hello,
I apologize for cross posting this question in the Forms and Caching Services forum. But I thought my question will have a better chance.
I have read that it's possible to use Oracle Web Cache as a software load balancer between multiple Application Servers.
We are running Oracle9iAS R1.0.2.2.2a, with Forms/Reports6i servers on 2 Win2k boxes i.e our Forms6i application is deployed on two seperate boxes in two distinct locations. Users at each location, use their respective App Server url.
Since the application is the same i.e. Forms6i code/fmx is the same for both locations, I am looking into loadbalancing and failover capability that Web Cache might be able to provide.
I AM ONLY LOOKING AT THE LOADBALANCING & FAILOVER capabilities and NOT caching.
So basically all users from both locations will point their browser to this Web Cache and the Web Cache will direct each connection to either of the two boxes. So, if either of the boxes dies, Web Cache will divert the requests to the other box.
My concern is whether Web Cache supports this for the Forms requests that it will receive from the users. We are using Servlet Deployment of Forms, so technically, all communication is going though the HTTPD.
Has anyone done this or has any ideas as to whether it's going to work or not? Oracle's FAQ insists that Forms is not supported. But I want to make sure that even loadbalancing is not supported. And if not supported then is there any other solution.
    Any comments appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Manish

Using Web Cache to load balance servlet-based Forms (6i and 9i) is unofficially supported. I say "unofficially" because we have actual customers doing it and getting support, but the 2 development teams (Forms and Web Cache) haven't actually done any integration testing of this sort of configuration yet. For your case, please contact your Support rep and ask what was done to use Web Cache as a load balancer for Forms6i at METRO in Germany. The Forms product managemment team is writing up a white paper to describe how to do it, but until then, you'll need to go through Support. Please contact me if you want more information.

  • Load Balancing Forms and Reports with Web Cache

We are planning to add a second OracleAS 10g middle-tier application server to an existing 10g middle-tier.
Both middle tiers will provide Forms and Reports.
Users must pass through two static HTML pages before starting Forms.
We plan to use Web Cache to load-balance (probably using round-robin) between the two middle-tiers.
Does anyone see any problems with this solution?
    All comments/suggestions welcome.
    Thanks,
    Jim

You could also load balance the two OC4J's using standard servlet mechanisms. I know that there exists a couple of good notes on Metalink. Go and do a search.

  • Problem in using OracleAS Web Cache as Load Balancer

    I have two machines:
    aimssrv.world.com and aimsrep.world.com.
Both of above machines are running Redhat Linux AS 4.
On both machines, I have installed Oracle Forms and Reports 10g Services. I have deployed my application on both machines.
I am able to access my application at aimssrv.world.com by doing:

and I am also able to access my application at aimsrep.world.com by doing:
    http://aimsrep.world.com:7778/forms/frmservlet?config=aims
I have implemented OracleAS Web Cache at machine aimssrv.world.com, and have enabled the Load Balancing.
In Origin Servers, its showing me two servers:
    Host => aimssrv.world.com, PORT=> 7778, Routing=> Enabled, CAPACITY=>100, Failover Threshold=>5, PING URL=>/, PROTOCOL=>HTTP
    Host => aimsrep.world.com, PORT=> 7778, Routing=> Enabled, CAPACITY=>100, Failover Threshold=>5, PING URL=>/, PROTOCOL=>HTTP

    hi,
i hv recently configured webcache load-balancing for my 2 mid-tiers.I did not upgrade pre-requisite webcache upgrade patch 4569559 to my 10g rel 2 10.1.2.0.2 OAS and it still worked a bit but I do have some doubts why oracle recommends installing this patch before configuring webcache load-balancing.Have u?
btw u need to collapse all the features of webcache of caching to turn on http load-balancing.U need to add a parameter to internal.xml (LOADBALANCE ON="YES") and register origin servers of both servers with each other and map ur sites so that origin servers of both servers will cater sites of server1 and server2 at the same time.
what worked for me is i registered origin server of server1 at server2 and origin server of server2 at server1 and mapped site of server1 (http://server1:port/forms/frmservlet?config=something) to work with origin server of server2 as well at site-to-server page so that origin servers of both servers will load-balance my server1 site and vice-versa.
But still its not seamless. The initial site request was still being routed to the server which is DOWN first and not seamlessly routed to other server which is UP.Maybe webcache upgrade patch would hv done this seamlessly????
