LDom doesn't boot after SAN controllers replaced

I have an LDom that was installed on a SAN volume. Both of the SAN controllers needed to be replaced, and now we get the the following when trying to boot this LDom:
Boot device: /virtual-devices@100/channel-devices@200/disk@0 File and args:
Evaluating:
The file just loaded does not appear to be executable.
I can mount the volume directly on the host (with the LDom unbound) and all the slices appear fine. I also ran fsck, and it reports no problems.
I can boot the LDom of the net and run an upgrade, but it still does not boot after the upgrade.
This appears similar to:
http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5166845&tstart=90
But, that is for an LDom inside a file.

a=s0, b=s1 etc
/virtual-devices@100/channel-devices@200/disk@0:f

  • Mac doesn't boot after splitting BOOTCAMP drive under Windows 8.1

Macbook pro mid 2012, OS X Mavericks
I've installed Windows 8.1 x64 using Bootcamp assistant. In Windows I went to Disk Management and shrank drive C: from 200 GB to 94 GB and created a new drive D: from unallocated space.
After restart Windows doesn't boot giving some error and quickly restart. If I hold "Option" key I see only Windows. Mac OS X disappeared.
    How to fix?

So, I've tried 1001 ways to recover. Nothing worked. Interned Recovery gives -2002F error. Macbook pro 2012 can't boot from bootable DVD to use DiskWarrior, Drive Genius or similar. It can't boot from OS X Lion install DVD. I had only Windows PC to fix this. So
I asked a friend with latest Mavericks(which I had too) to make a Recovery USB and make a DMG file from it and send me over internet. Then I used the TransMac application under Windows and burned DMG on my USB stick. My god it worked. After 2 days of struggle I found this solution. I was able to boot from this USB stick into Recovery Mode and from there I can reinstall Mac Os X Mavericks. Somehow it sees my Ethernet cable and doesn't give error.
Note: that Disk Utility wasn't able to recover partitions. I tried to run DiskWarrior from terminal but it gave me an error. TestDisk didn't run too. So I'm doing a clean installation.
I could recover or backup my files using Paragon Mac Recovery Bootable DVD, but there was no need since it's my new macbook and I didn't have much files there.
Windows had changed the HD partition map from GUID Partition Table(GPD) to MBR. And made HD a "dynamic disk". This is why Mac Os wasn't able to boot.
If anyone knows how to convert a disk back to GPD and make Mac OS able to boot please let me know. I'm still installing Mac Os X on USB stick and didn't change my HD.

  • System doesn't boot after time machine restore to 10.6.8

    I had a mbp with 10.6.8
    did time machine backup
    installed yosemite
saw the app I need for work not work, new I have to go back to that backup
    restart->cmd-r->restore from time machine
after this my computer doesn't boot from main disk (that says 10.6.8 now), and cmd-r doesn't work anymore on startup. option gives only the not working main drive, even with time machine plugged in.
what can I do to get my computer to start in any way?

Can you use the original install disk/or SL retail disk to start up the MBP and install Snow Leopard again?
    Ciao.

  • Comp doesn't boot after bios update

I flashed the new 1.90 bios using winflash on my K8N Neo2 Platinum, after the reboot my comp screen didn't turn on and ventilators stayed at max rpm.
I tried clearing CMOS (i know it can't do anything but it's worth trying) and using another stick of ram (PC4000 on hynix chips that can do cl3, my BH5 doesn't boot on cl 3)
    but nothing helped.
Is there a way of reverting to the older BIOS?

Well it's hard to flash back to an earlier bios if your system don't post .
What you can do is to shut off system , remove +5vsby by turning off PSU .
Then remove all devices except the neccesary cpu/memory/gfx card/floppy drive (specially disconnect all USB ,including usb mouse/usb kb )
After having it barebone , reset cmos with the jumper (min 15.secs to be sure) .
Connect the power and see if it posts with a normal PS2 keyboard and no mouse.
If it does you can flash back with a msdos bootable floppy with awfl833d.exe and the bios file on it .

  • 3750x doesn't boot after upgrade to version15

Due to a problem with POE+ i have tried to upgrade the IOS to Version15.0.2SE2,  from 12.2.58. unfortunatly the Switch doesn't boot up anymore. It starts to decompress and install the IOS 2 Times, after the Second try it displays "unable to boot" and the switch goes in Bootloader-mode.
When i look at the version i See that bootloader is still the old version 12.2.58.
It seems that the bootloader doesn't geht upgraded and that's why the Switch can't Boot the new Image.
Is there anything i can do to Upgrade the bootloader seperatly?
    It's a 3750X48PF-S
    Many thanks
    Andy

This is a stack of 2 switches, both have the same problem and they are still running old image (as V15 doesn't work)

  • Macbook pro doesn't boot after iOS upgrade

    Hi all,
I've upgraded my macbook pro (was requested automatically the upgrade) and after reboot to finish the installation, my macbook doesn't boot up.
Is there any way to boot it up? A kind of boot in safe mode?
I'm trying to power it up but nothing. It doesn't boot at all.
Please, can you help me with this.
    Thanks
    Álvaro

iOS is for iPhone, iPad not for Mac. So what upgrade are you referring to?

  • Satellite M200 doesn't boot after RAM 4GB upgrade

    Hi,
I recently upgraded my RAM just to speed things up a little as RAM is soo cheap these days.
    I have a M200 T2130 Vista came with 1GB (2*512) sticks.
The new sticks are 2 *2GB Dane-elec DDR2 pc2-5300, when I put the two in and rebooted the hard drive light came on briefly and then it just stayed idol, no POST, Bios options.
I tried using a single 512 stick with both new sticks and they both work in a 2.5GB setup just not together also this only works when the 512 stick is in the more internal slot and not the other way around.
So if anyone has had a similar prob or can give me some advice that would be great, I'm not to sure if the motherboard can support 4GB?
    Thanks, Dave.

    Hi
There are two possibilities why your M200 doesnt boot after the RAM upgrade.
Firstly the installed RAM could be not compatible or could be faulty or the notebook doesnt support the 4GB RAM.
I dont know what M200 do you have exactly but you could check the installed chipset and could check on the Intel page if this chipset would support the 4GB RAM.

  • Ix2-dl doesn't boot after firmware upgrade

I upgraded to the latest firmware and it won't reboot now. the power light just keeps blinking.

    Hello lcgrzy,
I recommend trying the following steps:
--Power off unit, remove power cable and re-seat all disks.  Then reconnect the power adapter to attempt to boot up.
--While powered off, swapped the disks to opposite bays. Then see if the unit fully boots after about 5 minutes.
--Try booting the unit one disk at a time to see if either disk will fully boot.
--Try booting the unit one disk at a time to see if the firmware on the unit seems to be ok.
--If the unit does not seem to boot after the above, please call lenovoEMC support.

  • Arch linux doesn't boot after installing AMD ATI Catalyst

I have a laptop which has a integrated graphic card intel 4th generation (4600) and an AMD ATI R9 m265x (hybrid Intel/AMD graphics card) so I have just installed AMD ATI Catalyst proprietary ones by following
    AMD Catalyst ArchWiki.
I have used "Installing from the unofficial repository" method so in my pacman.conf I have added below entry for [catalyst-stable]:
    [catalyst-stable]
    Server = http://catalyst.wirephire.com/repo/catalyst/$arch
    ## Mirrors, if the primary server does not work or is too slow:
    #Server = http://70.239.162.206/catalyst-mirror/repo/catalyst/$arch
    #Server = http://mirror.rts-informatique.fr/archlinux-catalyst/repo/catalyst/$arch
    #Server = http://mirror.hactar.bz/Vi0L0/catalyst/$arch
Then I have update pacman's database and install below packages:
    catalyst-hook
    catalyst-utils-pxp
    lib32-catalyst-utils-pxp
(No need to install catalyst-total-pxp as I have installed catalyst-utils-pxp)
After installing it, I have configured the driver, configuring X using below command:
    # aticonfig --initial
In order to use PowerXpress support I have installed catalyst-utils-pxp package plus additional lib32-catalyst-utils-pxp.
To perform a switch into Intel's IGP I have also installed the mesa-libgl  package and Intel's drivers: xf86-video-intel  and intel-dri .
I have enable the automatic update by enabling the catalyst-hook.service with below commands since it automatically rebuilds the fglrx modules while the system shuts down or reboots (so I haven't to do it manually each time kernel is updated using Catalyst-generator):
    # systemctl enable catalyst-hook
    # systemctl start catalyst-hook
And finally I have blacklisted radeon module by creating "/etc/modprobe.d/blacklisted.conf" file which content is:
    blacklist radeon
and also I have ensured that fglrx line is added in "/etc/modules-load.d/Catalyst.conf" file.
To avoid problems, I have rebuilt the fglrx module by doing (I know it is not necessary as it is done by catalyst-hook):
    catalyst_build_module all
Once I reboot, arch linux does not boot. Last lines printed out are below and then it freezes:
Starting temp files linker to catalyst...
    Starting Catalyst event Daemon...
[ OK ] Started Catalyst event Daemon
Starting Catalyst's fglrx kernel' module builder...
[ OK ] Started temp files linker for catalyst.
[ OK ] Started Catalyst's fglrx kernel' modue builder.
[ OK ] Started gnome Display manager.
[ OK ] Started Network manager.
    [ OK ] Reached target Multi-User system.
[ OK ] Reached target Graphical Interface.
[ OK ] Reached target Network.
I have tried to put nomodeset as a kernel parameter but it does not work. Also, after reading ArchWiki, I have noticed that it is recommended to don't do this as I am using catalyst-utils-pxp because intel driver needs it so I have removed nomodeset parameter from kernel but It continues not working.
    Any ideas?

FInally I managed to boot arch linux.
    I had to downgrade xorg-server from 1.16.2.901-1 to 1.15.2-1.
It seems there is a problem with Catalyst 14.12-1 and xorg-server 1.16.2.901-1.
Also I had to replace desktop manager from gdm to lightdm as gdm raises segmentation faults using xorg-server versions 1.16.2.901-1 and 1.15.2-1.
Finally I had to add an entry in pacman.conf:
    [xorg115]
    Server = http://catalyst.wirephire.com/repo/xorg115/$arch
    ## Mirrors, if the primary server does not work or is too slow:
    #Server = http://mirror.rts-informatique.fr/archlinux-catalyst/repo/xorg115/$arch
    #Server = http://mirror.hactar.bz/Vi0L0/xorg115/$arch
    Then performs following actions:
    1)  # pacman -Syuu catalyst-hook catalyst-utils-pxp
    2) Uninstall all the packages xf86* such as xf86-video-intel, xf86-input-evdev,  xf86-input-synaptics, etc.
    3) Install the packages uninstalled in step 2 and install them again using xorg115 repo, for example, # pacman -S xorg115/xf86-video-intel xorg115/xf86-input-evdev xorg115/xf86-input-synaptics
I have put a comment here.

  • Late 2008 Macbook Pro doesn't boot after installing Mavericks

I have a late 2008 Macbook Pro, dual core 2.53 GHZ, 4 GB Ram (2x2).
I've been tearing my hair out trying to get this computer to boot up.  Many things have been tried here.  So here's the history.
Before starting this, I was running 10.6.8 on this computer.
First time I tried to install Mavericks, the installation failed, and when the computer went to restart, it just went in a loop, never really booting up, just getting the to gray screen with the apple symbol, spinning the wheel, and then going black again, restarting, and repeat.  So, I took it into the Apple Genius Bar, and they diagnosed a bad battery.  I replaced the battery, and had them do a clean restore back to 10.6.8.
I got it home, and tried to do an install again.  This time, I downloaded the installer, and put in on an external firewire drive, and attempted to do a clean install of Mavericks.  I ended up with the same boot failure problem.
I went back to the apple genius bar, and even though the diagnotics said my harddrive was fine, they said in the troubleshooting list, that the harddrive with the first thing they suspected.  So, I replaced the harddrive.  I did the Mavericks install again from an external HD, and for a moment, everything was great.  It booted up into Mavericks.  But, after my first restart, the problem was boot failure was back.
After reading a few articles, I tried booting in Safe mode.  That worked.  I also ran disk repair on the HD and it looked great.  Still, it won't boot up out of Safe mode.
After being very frustrated, I tried just installing snow leopard from the dvd, but the install keeps failing.
Not sure what to do next.

    Micajah10,
rather than a hard drive problem, you might have a faulty internal SATA cable. Do you have an external disk enclosure, or a SATA-to-USB or SATA-to-FireWire adapter? If you can boot from your hard drive without problems when it’s external, but it remains problematic internally, then that could point to the internal SATA cable as the culprit.

  • MacBook Pro doesn't boot after crash.

I only had it for a few month (Novebmer 2011).
It crashed while playing an online game and wouldn't let me close the game so I forced a restart by pressing the On/Off button. Trying to start back up I get a grey screen with an Apple logo and a ton of command line text with weird looking codes.
    I already tried:
    Disconnecting all USB devices.
Botting in Safe Mode (by holing down shift):
Works. Repaired permissons and tried to repair disk. Both tell me it's fine now but I still can't boot normally.
I also turned off Bluetooth just in case my Apple keyboard or touchpad are interfering.
Resetting RAM (by holding down command-option-P-R):No change.
Booting from the repair partiton (by holding down command-R):
Doesn't give me and options but also a grey screen just without the error messages I get when booting normally.
(I don't have a start-up disk to use as the new MacBook Pros don't ship with one.)
Selecting the repair partition after setting up internet in the bottom part. Also just agrey screen with error text.
The MacBook was bought from a Premium Reseller and they changed the RAM for me. I have the original lieing next to me but don't quite dare to change anything myself as I'm afraid I might break something and just make it worse. Given it's from a Premium Reseller I assume it should be apple approved or whatever though.
My second problem is that I'm in France and don't speak French so going to the Apple store is kind of a last resort. (And probably not a good experience.)
I'd be more than grateful for any tips on what else I could try.

What I think has happened is in the process of doing a Force Shut Down you have totally corrupted the hard drive.
    Destroying even the Recovery partition.
Now this could be because of a hardware failure, like for some reason the hard drive just crapped out (it can happen at any time).
You can try to boot the computer from the internet, Apples web server. You do that by holding down the Command+R key combo as soon as you hit the power button.
If that does not take you to the internet boot system then you will more then likely have to wait for your Bar appointment.
    Good luck.

  • RE: Drive doesn't boot after 10.5.8 upgrade

After upgrading to 10.5.8, it was a struggle to shut down my machine, especially after typing in Firefox caused it to lock up. When I decided it would be best to restart the machine and start fresh, the screen stayed gray, without the apple on bootup. After a few reboots, I had the computer boot to one of my FireWire drives. Initially, the internal ATA drive didn't show up at all in either DiskUtility or DiskWarrior. After a few hours, the drive began to show up in DiskUtility, with the brand name of the drive listed, but no down arrow with the name I gave the drive. It also doesn't allow me to select any of the buttons for verify/repair disk permissions or verify/repair disk, as they are greyed out. There is no change with DiskWarrior, as it doesn't show me the drive in the pull down menu. And in TechTool Pro, it shows the drive off to the side as disk4s, but doesn't allow me to mount the drive.
Any solutions to get my drive back up and running, and to archive files/programs onto a backup drive?

    Update:
After coming to the realization that no software was going to get me up and running with the drive, after testing the Seagate I drive on another G4, and getting similar, if not worse results on that one (as I couldn't even get it to be listed in the DiskUtility window that I had previously, even though I couldn't verify/repair disk on my computer either) — I took the mindset that by partitioning the drive — if it still was a kosher drive — that I could then take it to a data recovery place as a last resort.
I had planned on taking the drive for data recovery to a place near my home, but of course they closed up shop after more than a decade in the community just last month. Being antsy and wanting some resolution, upon reading that by partitioning a drive, it would not zero out my data, made it sound that it should be an easy recovery, and at least start the process.
Then again, I was wondering if there was some software that I could get to be able to do that myself, or some method so I don't have to fork over $$$$ if it's an easy thing to do myself? After reading up on partitioning, it indicated that I wasn't deleting anything, and that it was in essence re-jigging my drive. So I took my 75GB drive, and split it 15GB/60GB. In an blink I had two drives that I could access once again. I ran the verify/repair options, with no errors coming up. From there, I then began to reinstall OSX 10.5 on one partition, but stopped immediately, knowing that having the OS wasn't necessary at this point, as I still have an outboard FireWire drive to boot to.
I then rebooted the machine to that FireWire drive, and to my sadness, while the two partitions appeared on the desktop, one was a completely empty partition (60GB) and one with just 64K (15GB).
I knew it wouldn't be that easy.
Having already scoured Disk Utility, DiskWarrior and found nothing to recover the data, and used the Data Recovery "tool" in TechTool Pro 5, with it only bringing up about 30 System files at the most based on a single search for one letter in the alphabet, I'm all ears at this point at what I can do possibly on my end.
At least I know that the drive is in working order, despite the few people I talked to who tried to tell me that the drive just suddenly breathed it's last breath, and would never work again. The 10.5.8 update has something to do with why the drive fried, and there doesn't seem to be anything physically wrong with the drive.
    Thanks in advance.

  • T40 doesn't boot after recovery to factory settings

    Hi all,
I was going to install ubuntu for my T40. I had my system partitioned to Windows XP and Ubuntu. The windows was very slow and I decided to get back to factory settings and install only the ubuntu.
However, after running the factory setting, I can't get over the GRUB-loading process. At the startup, after the first IBM-screen there is only a message:
    GRUB Loading stage1.5.
    GRUB Loading, please wait...
After that, the whole system reboots. I can't get out of this loop.
I have tried to boot Ubuntu from CD at the start (by F12), but nothing happens. I have also tried Master boot record from http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-62978 . I have also tried EasyBCD.
It seems that the system doesn't get any of these from the CD....
And, I haven't got the original Windows XP installing CD
    What can I do?

    @TuuS:
I don't belive, that this will help. Deleting all partitions will not "reset" the MBR. Grub still will be active in the MBR, if you don't use a tool which rewrites the MBR. The error still appears at the next boot.
The easiest way is the MS-DOS fdisk /mbr or - if the recovery partition of XPor Vista still exists - the Rescue and Recovery - Recovery repair media (Windows 2000/XP and Vista) which rewrites the MBR and re-enables the F11 - key to boot the recovery-partition.
