LE 7 sample editor problem

Hi everybody, I want to use the toolbox at the sample editor, but there are only a few tools to use.Has somone an idea how to use the whole toolbox, or is this not possible with that version (LE 7.1)

The available tools for the sample editor are only those you see. Most of the editing that is specialized to the sample editor you would do with the items available from the "functions" menu.

  • Sample editor problem in logic pro 9

Usually when you select a track in the arrange window, then click sample editor, that audio file would then appear in the sample editor. But say for eg I have edited the 'kick drum' in the sample editor but would then like to edit the 'snare', when I click the snare track, it doesn't appear in the sample editor? instead, the kick drum remains in the sample editor and I can't seem to change what file is in there.
Can anyone help?, its proper frustrating!!

  • Logic 8 Sample Editor Problems

I'm having major issues with the sample editor. It's starting to randomly ignore tracks. I have drums tracks that I need to invert and they refuse to show up in the editor. I have 8 tracks in all that are being ignored. I have gone through all kinds of troubleshooting to try to get this to work and I'm stuck. What could be causing this?

    Hey Neal,
    did those tracks have comps?
did you tryed to flatten the tracks before reverse?
    peace,
    Jorge

  • Not able to increase gain of blue Apple Loop in Sample Editor, even when I bounce in place

As far as I understand things, bouncing in place creates a new audio file that you can alter at will. I have a blue Apple Loop from Logic's library that I want to permanently change the gain on.  I can bounce in place but all the functions in the sample editor are greyed out, thus not allowing me to change the gain. The loop is a surround sound loop, I don't know if that matters. It's happened to me in stereo so I don't think so.

Finaly i was able to solve the problem. The other machine was having some firewall blocking the receiver.

  • "Open in external sample editor" seems to be broken?

    Hey all,
I'm hoping that someone can help me figure this out. I'm using Logic Pro X 10.0.7 in conjunction with Adobe Audition CS6. This problem seems to happen intermittently, and on some of my machines, but not others. I've also witnessed it on others' machines as well.
When I try to open a region of audio in the external sample editor (For which I've set up Adobe Audtion CS6 to do destructive edits), I can manage to get the file to open correctly in Audition. HOWEVER, when I make my edits in audition and try to SAVE the file in Audition to send it back to Logic Pro X, I get an error message that the file cannot be saved because it is "in use by another application". It's almost as if Logic doesn't release the file to the external sample editor in order for it to be overwritten, and updated.
When I switch back to Logic, after I get the error message, Logic "refreshes" the waveform information, but it's still unchanged, because the external sample editor can't save the changes that I've made to the region. Can anyone relate? Offer me useful tips on how to fix this? Is it a bad configuration on my end, or just a bug in Logic?
    Thanks,
    Steve

Ok so I think I might have figured this out on my own... Apparently, if you highlight a region, and the region is open in Logic's Editor window, while you're trying to edit the region with an external editor like Audition, it will throw the "file is in use by another application" error, when you try to save the changes you've made in the external editor. I found that if I close the "Editor" window in Logic, before trying to open the region in Audition, Audition is then able to save the changes to the file.

  • Sample editor 'functions' greyed out.

    Hi there,
I'm having a problem in Logic 8 whereby all the functions in the sample editor are disabled. I'm pretty new to logic but i'm getting to grips with it, just can't figure out why i can't use any of the functions

They are greyed out because of a possible lack of manual reading....while that's the most likely cause a secondary problem might be not applying basic computer use skills that you already know.
In most every program what must you do to data to be able to edit?
You have to select it... it looks like from the pic you've posted that you have not selected the audio, usually it comes up selected (darker color) when you open the sample editor.
Either drag select the area you wish to work on or use the Apple key in combination with the A key to select all.
This is basic editing, from a long time Logic user...trust me, reading the manuals can provide many benefits... there's always secondary information included along with the info you're looking for. Logic's manual has a large chapter on editing audio in the sample editor. It's a good read.

  • Sample editor display jumps to file begin on zoom with large files

Hey - does anyone else have this problem:
When I zoom in to the max possible zoom level in the sample editor in Logic (eg to edit single samples with the pencil), in any audio file longer than 12:41, the waveform display suddenly jumps to very beginning of the file.
It happens using either the zoom-in key, zoom slider or zoom tool. It is somewhat infuriating because I have to guess when to stop pressing zoom-in to get as close as i can without triggering the jump. (If i go one zoom level too far, I have to go back, zoom out and re-find my place and try again.)
I did some investigation and the bug in zoom behavior starts happening with audio files a little shy of 12 min 41 sec ( 12:40.871ms to be more exact).
Here are the results in "length in samples" of a test audio file (AIFF 24-bit Stereo, 44100Hz):
33554453 samples and greater => sample editor jumps to beginning when zoomed in to max
33554432 - 33554452 samples => sample editor jumps to END of file when zoomed to max (bizarre, eh? a 20-sample window in which the bug works in the OPPOSITE direction!)
33554431 samples and less => sample editor zoom is normal and zooms in perfectly to the proper location at max zoom.
I also tested other things like trashing my logic prefs and starting from an empty song with nothing in it - none of which make any difference. This bug is present in Logic 8.0.2 on both my Macbook Pro with OS X 10.5.7 and my Powerbook G4 with 10.4.11
Maybe time to report this to apple - can anyone corroborate by just continually pressing your zoom-in key with the cursor in the middle of an audio file longer than 12:41 and see if the display jumps to the beginning?
    Thanks!

    bump?

  • Scrubbing Audio in Sample Editor-Icons missing

My Sample Editor's toolbox is missing both the Solo button and pencil tool.
As I don't have access to the solo tool, I can't scrub audio. I do have the arrow, hand and zoom icons..just no icons for solo and pencil that are supposed to show up underneth them. I've reinstalled logic express 7.1 but to no avail. The "Audiosuite" menu is also not there which is far less of a concern. Anyone else have this problem?
    Thanks in advance.
    G-5   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

OK. Thanks. I thought that might be the case. It just seems like audio scrubbing should be a basic enough function to have in both versions of Logic.

  • How to get rid of prompts in Sample Editor ?

    Hi everybody !
Question : Is it possible to edit in sample editor without prompts ? I just want to delete, delete, delete...
    God bless this forum.

    Thank U, Phillip !
The problem is that it just doesn't do anything in my
    case...
A BUG ? I reinstalled Logic, and had no success.
Did anybody encounter same bug ?
This is not a bug. In the Sample editor,
if you just hit the delete key, you will always
get a dialog box. BUT if you use the
    key command
    "control>delete",
    "no dialog box"!
a definite time saver. There are so many key
commands that it can be a little overwhelming.
Just check them out sometime. You might
find something you would use alot.

  • Unlocking file in sample editor

After recording an audio file, I have attempted to go into the sample editor to make some alterations to the recording. After highlighting the area and pressing delete I get a pop-up message that says: "This audio file cannot be changed! Volume or file is locked."
Any ideas of what I may have done to make this happen? How do I unlock that file?
This just started happening, no idea what I may have changed, but I have never had this problem arise previously.
    Thanks.
    P

Yeah, I feel the pain. This has happened to me for no reason. The way out is to revert to a session back up. I don't know if it's one of those corrupted files issues or a preference issue or whatever. I have also tried changing permissions on the files and all that fun stuff with no results. Again, use a session backup.

  • Sample editor does not play

I teach in an 18 station music tech lab. Recently several computers have had a problem with the Sample Editor. When they open a sequence in the sample editor the file will not play. The song line pointer moves, but no sound. This is happening in several computers.
My only solution has been to copy all the files and open a new song. And this only works if they are using the default arrange page, not their template arrange page.
    Help appreciated.

Yeah, it's the known confusion between "tracks" and "Audio objects" - one Audio object can only play back one Audio file at a time no mattter how many tracks you have assigned to the same Audio object in your Arrange page.

  • Audio 1 & 2 crash sample editor but not other tracks

I've been working out this problem for a while and while not getting any conclusive solution, I am narrowing the behavior down a bit. Because of my M-Audio Firewire Solo interface I record DI guitar parts in mono on input 2. If I open an audio file recorded this way in the sample editor and copy a section, I can pretty much count on getting "I/O error = -36" when I try to paste this copied selection into another section of the file. Frequently closing this error prompt crashes the editor or causes erratic behavior such as the black & white beach ball appearing elsewhere within Logic. This doesn't happen if I do one of two things: Either import a pre-recorded stereo audio file (AIFF, WAV or REX) into Audio 1 or 2, or create a mono or stereo track 3, 4, etc. and record in that. In either case I can edit normally without trouble. Why only these tracks? I've tried different buffer settings as well as trashing my preferences and it doesn't matter. Makes no difference if I'm writing to system disk or external HD. I'm recording AIFF at 24 bits. Thanks. - Emile

That did it! For future users, make sure the link button in the upper right hand of the timeline is black (not green). Click on the audio track that you want to un-link. Go to modify->stereo pair. Then, you can delete either audio1 or audio2. Thanks so much!

  • Does Logic's Sample Editor still have bugs ????

because for years the sample editor is been messing up and i've always thought it was my mac...
but on a new mac and still getting the same prblem
Under TIME AND PITCH MACHINE logic will not keep the pitch at the same place where you point unless you hold it down
example: if i change the tempo up by 10bpm, logic will preview it right until i let go off the mouse
even though the numbers and the dot is still showing that its been pitch up
normally it should continue from where ever you last moved the mouse to, you don't need to hold the mouse down through the whole song
is anyone experience this same bug or problem?
    stash

    anyone at all?
because i've tried three macs and all of em has the same problem
