LE 8 Legacy Instruments

Hi. A while back I had to reformat my Mac Mini. I've re-installed LE8 without too much incident, but I no longer have access to a set of sampler instruments I used to have and used a lot. I think they were part of the EXS24 offerings and were called Legacy instruments, Does anybody know how I get these sounds back on my machine? Thanks.

Hi,
AFAIK, the legacy instruments are a set of instruments that are no longer part of the basic installment, but you may be able to select an option during installation procedure to also install the legacy instruments. These are instruments that are there to ensure compatibility with earlier Logic Versions.
So, try looking in your Logic installer to find if you missed something.

  • Logic X - Exs24 missing "legacy instruments" folder

    HI,
I'm missing the Legacy Instruments folder in my EXS24. It's not in the sampler, and it's not in the file system (/Library/Application Support/Logic/Sampler Instruments). There _should_ be a folder there called "12 Legacy Instruments", but it doesn't exist.
I've found a few other threads on this and tried:
    repairing permissions.
    REindexing Spotlight
re-downloading Legacy and Compatibility from Download Additional Content
    Suggestions please?
    Thanks!
    logic 10.0.7
    Mac 10.9.4

OK, I figured out that this Legacy content is on the Logic 9 install disks. Here's how I solved it. I used Pacifist, which was mentioned in some other threads, but not really explained. I was also unsure whether this was a Logic 9 legacy issue, or something from way back in Logic 7 or 8. Hopefully this will help someone....
    1. Download and install Pacifist from Charlessoft
    2. Get all your Logic 9 disks ready, and open the Logic Studio Install disk in Pacifist. (You will need to insert all the Logic disks to open the complete package.)
    3. in Pacifist, search "legacy". In mine, this gave 5 results: Legacy Bass Guitar, 10 Legacy Instruments, 04 Logic Legacy Kits, 12 Legacy Instruments, and 06 Legacy Spaces. The Pacifist browser window shows the file path.
    4. In the Pacifist browser, right-click (or control-click) on the folder, and choose "Extract to Custom Location...", and extract to the corresponding location on your hard drive:
    /Library/Application Support/Logic/Channel Strip Settings/Track/04 Bass Guitar/Legacy Bass Guitar/
    /Library/Application Support/Logic/EXS Factory Samples/10 Legacy Instruments/
    /Library/Application Support/Logic/Plug-In Settings/Ultrabeat/04 Logic Legacy Kits/
    /Library/Application Support/Logic/Sampler Instruments/12 Legacy Instruments/
    /Library/Audio/Impulse Responses/Apple/06 Legacy Spaces
That should be all you need to add the Legacy content, without doing a full install. They are all just presets, except the EXS stuff, which is presets and samples — so if you want that you need to add both the EXS Factory Samples/10 Legacy Instruments AND the Sampler Instruments/12 Legacy Instruments. Otherwise they can be added modularly.

  • Missing legacy instruments

I'm missing quite a few kits and instruments and read in another forum that when installing Logic 8 from 7 I was supposed to check Legacy Instruments (which should be automatically checked) to keep them and I didn't know that. I'm using 9 now is there anyway to get these instruments back and/or will they be available in 10?

If you look on your install DVD you should find a number of packages, including additional instruments.
Re: Logic Pro X, yes, legacy instruments are included as a free additional download after you've installed and launched the program.  See appendix A in the manual:

  • Trouble accessing legacy instruments in the Library in Logic 10

If you just installed Logic 10 It's a simple bug to work around.
First do it the hard way...
In the inspector (left column) click on the instrument for your selected Instrument track.
In the popup hover the mouse over Legacy and navigate to any instrument.
You will then see the Library restore the links to the Legacy Instruments which should be a "permanent" fix from now on.

    Hi Rale99,
Thanks for your reply. Maybe its not applicable to me. On dont have Logic Pro 9, I only have the new version Logic Pro X. I was guessing that the Legacy stuff came with Logic 10 as normal.. because I saw mention of it in the Preferences.
To clarify from my side, I have gone through the process of Logic 'Preferences'(Advanced Tools) then I have ticked the Advanced Editing to enable it.
I have also clicked the ‘Download additional Content’ and downloaded all possible additional content I believe (as all boxes are ticked with the Status as ‘installed’ – this includes the Legacy and Compatibility option at the bottom (it shows 10.7 gb download now installed).
But I still can’t see the Legacy presets in the Logic Pro 10 ES1 synth?
Not sure if I have missed something?
    Regards
    Andy

  • "Legacy Instruments."

    Hey there.
I was messing about in Logic today, and I found a folder in the library that I'd never come across before. It was called "Legacy Instruments." and had some pretty nifty female vocals, new synths that I'd never heard before etc.
But now the folder has mysteriously disappeared, has this happened to anyone else, and does anyone know how I can get it back?

    No.
Legacy Instruments is Logic pro update to 8.
the Legacy Instruments is compatible with Logic Pro 7.
If you have some Project made with Logic Pro 7,and you should install these Legacy Instruments.
My suggestion:you should install theses, because they are not too big,if your hard driver is not so small.

  • Legacy Instruments Disappeared

I recently had to reformat my Mac because my midi instruments stopped communicating with Garageband. Sure enough after reformatting, it fixed the problem. But when I looked in my Instrument Library, the Legacy section I originally had was missing. I'm assuming it was because when I got the Mac it had the previous OS Mountain Lion, then I updated to Mavericks. So for some reason it just completely got rid of the old Garageband this time around. How can I get these Legacy instruments back, I really liked using a lot of them, so i'm upset that I had them before and now I don't. Any help would be great. Thanks!

    A couple of things:
The way you describe it (reformat), my guess is that you didn't do and "update" but rather a "clean Install".
    Update:
This is the procedure where you install the new OSX over an existing OSX. It usually leaves the previous data untouched and only replaces the  data that is necessary for the upgrade.
    Clean Install:
This is where you format a drive and install a new OSX version on an empty drive.
My guess is that you had data from an earlier GarageBand installation on your drive (legacy). When you reformat the drive, you would erase that. Unless you have a backup from where you can copy data back to your new system. A good practice in general is to clone the current system to an external drive before doing a system update, just in case something goes wrong or you remember a few weeks later that there was an important file that you forgot.
The only way to get your legacy instruments back is if you have an installer disk of the old GarageBand with those dinstruments or the Jam Packs in case you installed them separately.
    Hope that helps

  • Legacy instruments missing ? Logic Studio 8

When i try to load the Alto or Tenor Sax from Legacy Insruments library I get the following message -
Audio file “TESLNOMA2X01” not found! - Anyone else get this ? I installed all Audio / Jam pack DVD's.
Running Macbook pro core duo 2.33 OS 10.4.11
    Logic Studio 8

    Hi,
    in case anyone else has similar issue thought I'd share the following;
I've since found a solution for my problem thanks to some knowledgeable person at Logic forum.
    It turns out I needed to repair my disk permissions and having done that I ran the following in terminal;
    sudo chmod -R 777 ~/Library
It sets the library permissions for everyone on the computer but as its just me on my machine that's not a problem and now everything is working as should be.
Recent list now updates and preference files update!
    Best,
    ateight.

  • EXS Factory Samples And Sampler Instruments Duplicates and Missing Legacy

since updating and comparing to my macbook which i havent updated, it seems there are missing exs factory samples. for example on new logic 9 there are 2 folders exs factory samples which have 01 through 09 folders. the sampler instruments folder has 01 through 12 and folder 12 legacy instruments which on my mac book in sampler instruments have 01 thru 10 then skips to 26 to 41
ann ex factory folder on mac book 01 thru 10 folders and 10 legacy folder contains 01 thru 10 then skips to 27 thru 38. what is going on . why are there missing files in new upgrade i did on main computer? and how do i get all the exs samples and what should they be?

This problem began,i think in Logic 8.....when you install LP8 normally the EXS instruments and Legacy EXS there were always some missing that I was used to using..I found them eventually, they were now part of the the Garageband instrument Library.
I went back and searched all the install DVDs until I found them showing up..some EXS instruments would be missing the actual samples which were now part of the Garageband instrument library,Attitude Bass being one I remember off hand.
I just copied all the Instruments and samples I needed and got rid of the rest which amounts to a lot of space being freed up.
Now I just keep a backup of all my EXS files on external drive so I dont need to install them every upgrade as in Logic 9 (which I checked just in case there were any new files etc!)..which also sorts out the duplicate files headache.
    Hope this helps.....

  • Legacy on GarageBand

    I am using the iMac (24-inch, Early 2009) 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, OS X Yosemite version 10.10.1
I recently reset my iMac because it was terribly slow.  Now that it is up and running again, it is still slow and my GarageBand does not have the "Legacy" option in the Library.  It used to have it before I reset the iMac and I would use it (the Legacy opt.) whenever I was using GarageBand.  How can I access that option again?  Thank You.

Do you mean by "Reset your Mac" you reinstalled the system?
my GarageBand does not have the "Legacy" option in the Library.
The Legacy option is showing you sounds from GarageBand '11 or Logic Pro, if you are having these applications installed. I suspect, whatever you did when resetting, will have erased the Instrument Library, and when you reinstalled GarageBand 10, you did not reinstall GarageBand '11 as well.  To use the Legacy instruments and loops, install GarageBAnd '11 again,or restore the missing instruments from your backup.
    Restore
all missing loops from /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/
    all missing sounds from  /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Instrument Library/

  • Legacy tab missing (garageband)

    Hey guys,
I recently purchased a new macbook, and i no longer have a legacy tab in my garageband. After doing some searching here, it seems the solution would be to re-install a legacy version of garageband on my new machine. The problem is that the latest version i had on my old imac (before upgrading to Garageband 10) was Garageband 4. That worked just fine to make the legacy tab appear on my old imac, but I have no way of installing GB4 on my new macbook. (all the installers are too old and seem to be no longer compatible). Is there any way i can regain access to my legacy sounds on this new macbook?
    thanx

I don't know why this tab isn't showng for me.
Do you have any legacy instruments installed? If you never had GarageBand '11, JamPacks, MainStage, or Logic installed, you will have no "Legacy" instruments inherited from earlier installations.
If you have access to an GarageBand '11 installation or installer (e.g. iLife '11 installer DVD), install GarageBand '11 to get the Sound Effect Instruments.

  • Garageband 10.0.1 - no "legacy", no way to drag samples to musical typing??

All I have on my MacBook is Garageband 10.0.1, no previous versions.  It is a legit copy, and I've purchased all the additional loops, sounds, etc....I'm simply trying to drag a loop or .mp3 sound onto a key on the "musical typing" screen to play it, either using the musical typing or from my Midi controller.  It will not let me drag any sound from the loop finder, a track, or my desktop onto any key.  I've searched and searched, and everyone says to go into the "Legacy" library and use a sound effet track, but I don't have any "legacy" library.....Help?!?

I think you already said this, but what I do is drag it from my desktop (or wherever it may be), into the track. Once it's on the track I open up the "Musical Typing" and then drag it from the track onto the key. I'm also having an issue with the legacy instruments. I wiped my Mac and reinstalled Mavericks along with Garageband and all the iLife stuff from the App store and now I no longer have legacy instruments even after restoring my $4.99 purchase. I won't use GB until I get the legacy stuff back.

  • Legacy Folder for GarageBand 10

Hello.  My macbook pro did not have an older version of GarageBand prior to updating to Yosemite.  Is it still possible to download to retrieve the Legacy sound files from a clean install of GarageBand or is it only available if I had a previous version?  I also do not see an option to select in-app purchases or at the very least do not know where to find it in the menu.
    Thank you.

Is it still possible to download to retrieve the Legacy sound files from a clean install of GarageBand or is it only available if I had a previous version?
You cannot buy the older version of GarageBand from the AppStore, if your version of MacOS X supports the new version.
You can buy an iLife '11 installer DVD from Amazon or eBay, if you can find one. This will install the Legacy Instruments. But it is rather involved, since the GarageBand '11 version from the installer  disk does not directly run and will need updating.  See this discussion:
How do I revert to older version of Garageband?
I also do not see an option to select in-app purchases or at the very least do not know where to find it in the menu.
The in-app purchase was avalable in the early versions of GarageBand 10. Now the additional sounds are free, because the app is no longer free. The initial purchase includes the additional sounds.   You start the download from GarageBand's main menu bar:    GarageBand > Restore Sound Library  or Download additional Sounds.

  • Legacy Tab Doesn't Show

I just currently bought my macbook pro. When I opened Garageband for the first time, it had me download version 10. I am currently trying to sample music but the legacy tab doesn't come up for me in software instruments to use sound effects to place the samples in the keyboard. Is there anything I can do. I don't know why this tab isn't showng for me.

  • Old problem new angle:EXS24 instrument audio file not found -but its THERE!

So I know this has been posted on before, but I've read the forums and my problem seems slightly different.
Was trying to open tenor sax, or alto sax.
Created a new EXS24 track. In the Logic Studio Library it comes up with a long list of folders, bottom is '12 Legacy Instruments', inside that all there is is '05 Horns and Woodwinds' and '08 Drum Kits'. I go into Horns and Woodwinds, there are my instruments. When I click them it says not found.
I checked in my finder window, (application support/Logic/Sampler Instruments/ 12 Legacy Instruments/05 Horns and Woodwinds). They ARE there. So that baffles me.
Now, someone said on another forum its because they arent in the right place and SHOULD be in garage band (application support/garage band/Instrument Library/Sampler/Sampler Files/12 Legacy Instruments/05 Horns and Woodwinds), so I copied them from the previously described Logic destination to there.
They STILL aren't working. It seems like Logic is looking in the right place but it says it cant find them?!
    Please help!
(P.S - Annoyingly if it comes to reinstalling Logic Studio, I don't think I can do that. I bought my Mac Mini off ebay, and have forgotten the admin password, and have no OS discs to reset it. So until I can do that, I can't install anything (as you need the admin password. Any solutions that don't involve reinstalling Logic gratefully welcomed!)

What I think you have to do is refresh the Spotlight index. Open the prefpanel Spotlight, go to the Privacy Tab, put all your disks on it (just drag 'm), close the panel, reopen it, remove the disks, close the panel, let your Mac sit for an hour or so while it is creating Spotlight indeces from scratch. Use *Activity Monitor* to check if Spotlight is done indexing. If you see MDS or MDWorker still active (=using CPU), it is not done.
O and BTW, you should create an account for yourself of which you do have the admin password, or you will not be able to solve many possible problems.

  • Why are Logic 8 samples separated from the 'legacy' ones?  whats the point?

When I installed Logic 8, I noticed that the installer had separated the new (and improved?) Logic 8 EXS24 instruments from the untouched ones (known as Legacy Instruments in Logic). Is it safe to assume that the Logic EXS24 instruments were set up this way because those who bought Logic 8 outright, and not as an upgrade, did not get the Legacy Instruments? If not, why wouldn't they just allocate the Legacy Instruments where they belong within the sample hierarchy? What have you guys done with the Legacy layout? Did you leave it as is, or did you disperse the Legacy Sampler Instruments amongst their 'families' for searching convenience? If I decided to do this myself, do you think there would there be an organization disadvantage when it came time to upgrade Logic 8 to Logic 9? I guess I am just looking for a little background on the reasoning for this, as well as what most other users have done. Thanks!

What is the deal with this new CAF formant anyway? Is it just smaller file size? Are there any downsides to it?
Have any upgrades melded the Legacy in with the Logic 8 instruments for the sake of convenience when searching for instruments? I was thinking I would do that, but than wondered if that would make it extra tedious somehow when the next Logic came out.
