LE7, PowerBook 12", Korg and SPDIF

Hi All,
I'm thinking of getting LE7 to sequence for my Korg PA1X. I'd be using it primarily on my 1Ghz 12" PowerBook with 768MB RAM. Mostly I'll be using it to sequence midi files to play on the Korg and then to record the performances to MP3's. I have a couple of questions if anyone would be so kind to help.
1). Can LE7 control my Korg (like an external sound module)? I saw from the LE/Pro comparison page that Pro has "External Instruments" ticked but Express doesn't. Is that just a red herring?
2). I'd like to use the SPDIF connections on my Korg to send the sound digitally to the PowerBook rather than having the added noise of analog. After all why convert digital to analogue then back to digital again. Is this possible and if so what would I need to do this?
3). Can LE7 handle lyrics both in the Midi file and the score?
4). Would a simple Midi / USB converter allow me to daisy chain additional devices should I wish to do so later by using the Thru connectors?
5). Given the simple level of what I need to do I'm presuming that it would be overkill to invest in Pro? If I'm wrong would someone be so kind as to put me right. Just for the record I don't need lots of software synths and effects. I have all I need in outboard hardware.
6). How do I get the trial version of LE? I've been looking for a while but I never seem to be sucessful as the link I keep finding just gives me page not found errors? I'm obviously doing something wrong somewhere.
Any help offered would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
David.

Although saying that, just recently I've seemed to be able to change sample rate just from the audio menu in logic, and not had to change the hardware. But I dunno why this is, OR whether it is then truly working at 96khz.

  • [Athlon64] TV-out and SPDIF brackets for RS482M - where to get them?

    Hi folks!
I'm building a HTPC and the MSI RS482M motherboard looks like a perfect candidate for me!
However, I'm having problems locating a supplier for the TV-out and SPDIF brackets.
I've asked the retailer if they're a part of the mainboard package, and it turns out they're not.
Any idea where I could get one?
I live in Ireland, but any online store that ships here will do.
    Thanks!

Has anyone found a bracket or successfully made one?

My RS482M4-ILD came with seperate brackets for the video outputs, the extra audio connectors, and bracket with a single spdif port.

    Hello,
Unfortunately Apple do not offer a download for mac OS X 10.5.8. They will only provide updates available for download. ( Normally you would do so once the OS is installed)
To do a fresh install of this software your going to need to buy a retail copy of the disk.
There are some vendors who do still stock the media disk, but they can be expensive.
    Best of luck.

    king,
If your Powerbook's serial number (do not post it here) starts with "W8" then the vertical lines are mostly likely due to a defect in the display itself. W8 is a factory code and, during the iMac G5 and PowerBook G4 timespan, that factory shipped thousands of units with the same defect. It cannot be fixed via software.
As all PowerBooks are now classed as "obsolete," an Apple Store will not work on it. They will look at it ands tell you it has vertical lines and that they cannot fix it. This Apple article shows Apple devices they curently considered obsolete:
Vintage and obsolete products - Apple Support
It is possible that some Apple Authorized Service Providers (AASP) will still work on older computes but they cannot get neededparts from Apple. As this issue was so pervassive, it wil be hard for you or an AASP to find a used/pulled display that is not effected with the "W8 Curse."
Although I love the old PowerBooks, I would not even spent the money for disks, much less the US$150-400 it would cost to replace the display, even should one be available.
If you give us a rough idea of where you are in the world, we can suggest repair shops specializing in fixing older Mac notebooks, but be aware those resources may be rather scare outside North America.

  • Powerbook (digital audio) and 1/8" jack NOT getting along

ok see if you can help me troubleshoot this.
i bought two of these cables:
    <http://www.cablesforless.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=2779>
"Our Custom Made 3.5mm Male to 2-Male 1/4 inch phono plugs audio cables are perfect for connecting your speakers and microphones. These cables feature Belden's 1800B digital XLR cable and Steren® precision machined connectors. To ensure maximum signal integrity and protection from RF and electromagnetic interference the cable also features a Beldfoil® shield and fully shielded connectors. Professional termination using high grade solder ensures optimal signal transmission. Designed for optimal sound quality, Belden's performance speaks for itself. Compare Belden's specifications (below) with those of other digital XLR cables and see for yourself how Belden cable is unmatched. Belden Brilliance® teamed with Steren Connectors brings audio to life!"
sounds good, right? they both exhibit the following symptoms.
i'm using it in the headphone jack of my powerbook g4 15" and going out to a little mixer so i can hear system audio, itunes, etc. through my system. this longer cable is replacing a monster cable of the same kind (but shorter).
i'm getting absolutely HORRIBLE buzz when i plug it into the headphone port. if i jiggle it a bit i can get it to behave but only if it sits just right.
on a crt imac and an older titanium powerbook G4 the issue is much better. i still hear a line hum. i wouldn't want to record like this, but it's not a nightmare.
on an ipod plugged into the power adapter it works beautifully. however, i CAN get it to buzz horribly if i jiggle the plug as i insert/remove it.
eyeballing it with the monster cable tip, it looks exactly the same.
so on one hand, the monster cable works great in all uses.
the cablesforless cable works terribly on the powerbook but nowhere else.
now here's a clue: the powerbook G4 has combination analog/digital input and analog/digital output jacks. i haven't been able to repeat it reliably, but the cablesforless cable seems to be able to trigger the digital interface part, as evidenced by a red light shooting out of the port.
unplugging the powerbook totally removes the buzz.
i get the buzz when this cable is in EITHER the input or output jack.
tried a different power supply in a different jack in the same room... same results both ports (slightly different tone to the buzz)
if i remove the little mixer and plug the 1/4" cable ends into two inputs on a practice amp, i get the same issue.
finally, i got another digital audio powerbook g4 15" and the connection seems to be slightly more reliable, but still problematic.

For starters, EPUB is a profile of XHTML, not HTML5. Further, audio and video support are part of the recently-approved EPUB3, which the release notes for ADE 1.8 explicitly say is not yet fully supported. Specifically, <epub:trigger> will allow you to use audio and video: http://idpf.org/epub/30/spec/epub30-contentdocs.html#sec-xhtml-epub-trigger
Do these EPUB files that you're not seeing in ADE pass validation? http://validator.idpf.org/
Basically, it sounds like you're trying to do things that ADE isn't supposed to support yet, and in a way it is unlikely to ever support (since ADE is known to be pretty conformant to the EPUB standards, it's very likely it will support the EPUB3 version of doing things rather than the hackery I've seen for Apple's reader).

  • X-Fi XtremeMusic and SPDIF bypass with Windows 7

    Hello
I moved from Windows Vista to Windows 7 (64 Bit) now I wanted to use the SPDIF bypass option with the Digital I/O Module again, but in the "SPDIF E/A" tab the drop down box "Settings for SPDIF input" is disabled.
What I need to do to get the SPDIF bypass to work again?
    (I don't need any Dobly/DTS decoding - it's just a simple?PCM signal.)
Best regards and thanks in advance
    Andreas

Re: X-Fi XtremeMusic and SPDIF bypass with Windows 7l Hello hwoarang5,
why do you think that this is disabled in Windows 7 and Vista?
It worked fine in Windows Vista, too.
Anyway, I've searched yesterday evening?a little bit more and solved the problem myself. To enable SPDIF bypass you have to do the following:
. enable Digital Input in the Windows 7 sound settings (it'sis disabled by default and I forgot about it).
    2. change the FlexiJack mode in the audio settings of Creative to "Digital E/A".
    3. now enable the "Recordation with bit adjustment" (don't know how this is called exactly in the English version).
When there is a PCM (DTS and Dolby is not supported) signal now at the Digital Input you should here something now.
    Hope this helps somebody.
    Best regards
    Andreas

Open Media Encoder and add your Sequences:
File > Add Premiere Pro Sequence
Navigate to your Premiere Project and select it in the list.
You can then select multiple Sequences from the Project (Ctrl+Click)
and load them all at once into Media Encoder and apply
the same encoding preset to all Sequences at the same time.

  • T61 and SPDIF interface

    HeLLo.
I would like to use a SPDIF output in my T61.
In Control Panel | Sound there are two interfaces to chose - Analog and SPDIF.
I bought a DAC with optical and coaxial intput. I gues that a spdif output is in the same place as headphone output but I'm not sure after 'reading' an internet'.
Can anyone tell me if in front of my T61 is SPDIF output too?

I'll try to get the things I did, correctly ordered here, to see if it helps. This was a new HTPC build. The first thing I did after all the hardware was installed and Windows XPSP2 was loaded, was to use Live Update! to load the 1.A MSI BIOS from the delivered 1.9  The flash went fine (luckily...after finding this site I use Syar's WinFlash method). I then just had a dinky pair of portable speakers hooked to line out...I had other priorities first. I then, AT THE SAME TIME, loaded Syar's latest mod BIOS *AND* hooked up the Logitech Z-680's. The flash went fine (touch and go for a minute, as the progress bar stayed at something like 48%....I let it sit, it never went higher but completed with an "all ok"?). At this point I noticed no sound out of the optical or coaxial ports (it may have never worked...don't know). Logitech was reporting "Searching For Signal..." I tried different cables, tried adjusting the settings in both Windows, Realtek control panel, and MSI Digicell...no go. I unhooked my front panel audio connections and installed the jumpers back on the MB...no go. I then went to NVIDIA's site and noticed an audio driver listed as 4.62 This was newer than the motherboard driver package (5.10) supplied 4.44 audio driver. I installed 4.62...it replaced the Realtek control panel applet with an NVIDIA one and I had sound from both the coax and optical. Logitech reported "Stereo". I popped in Resident Evil and Logitech reports "Dolby Digital". I'm no guru, but I thought "pass through" was no big deal. The 680's are decoding the Dolby Digital, I hope I didn't make it sound like the MB was.
    P
No thanks for trying with me, i did everything you said but still end up with z680's still reporting it as just stereo :( It's ok my Soundstorm on other board is better quality anyways.

  • Stereo and SPDIF in Vi

I don't?understand the seperation in playback devices in Vista: Speakers and SPDIF. I am using a?Creative XFI Extreme Gamer card. Isn't there an option to just output the audio?(in their best form) to both the green port and the SPDIF port? Now I have to select the SPDIF device as default to watch DVDs (5. sound), and select the Speaker device as default to watch normal TV (stereo sound).

I believe that setting the output to 5. in the audio console, then going into control panel -> sound and selecting speakers as default, and in speakers properties checking the box for digital i/o under 'custom' or some similar tab, will allow spdif output while still using 'speakers' as default out. I also think that you have to have 5. set in both audio console and the control panel.
In addition, I believe that the setting for digital i/o in the sound settings in control panel must be unchecked and rechecked with every reboot. If you dont get sound when you reboot, try this.
It's a real hassle, but dealing with creative is always a hassle, as you can read on these forums.

Tutorial: Installing Classic over a current Mac OS X installation

The only way to install OS 9.2.2 is using the install CD/DVD that came with the Mac, since these are special versions of OS 9.2.2.
If you just want to run classic mode, copy the System Folder from another Mac that has OS 9.1 (or better with 9.2.1 or 9.2.2) installed. A USB thumb dive works great for this. Transfer the folder to your Mac. It won't interfere with your OS X system which is in a folder titled System.

  • I have a Powerbook G3 Wallstreet and want to upgrade the Ram.

I recently bought an old Powerbook G3 Wallstreet. But it has some issues with booting up.
It doesn't boot up everytime... I can hear the start sound, but only sometimes the harddrive starts spinning.
So my idea was that maybe one ram module is broken...
But I don't know if the Ram I want to use is compatible with my Powerbook model.
There were 2 Ram modules installed:
And this is the one I want to insert. I took it out of an old Microsoft machine (gericom).
Maybe anyone can help me... or has an other solution for this booting problem.

The SO-DIMM that you want to use shouldn't cause any problems, even though it's the faster PC-133 SDRAM. It should downclock to your PowerBook's slower bus speed.  Judging by the shadow (or lack thereof) under each memory module in your photos, the upper SO-DIMM is undoubtedly the original Apple-installed 4-chip, 64 MB module.  The "Power Ram" appears to be a 16-chip, 128 MB module, while the Nanya is an 8-chip, 256 MB module.  What this means is that each of these SO-DIMMs has a chip density that differs from the other two.  The Power Ram's chips have the smallest density, the SEC's chips have slightly greater density, and the Nanya's chips have the greatest density.  I always felt that optimal performance in those older Macs was achieved by attempting to match chip densities.  I would never have used an original (8-chip) 32 MB DIMM with a newer (16-chip) 256 MB DIMM in one of my desktop or mini-tower G3s.  While you'll have 64 or 128 MBs less of total memory installed, I'd prefer to use the Nanya SO-DIMM by itself.  If you really need additional memory, you could install the original Apple (SEC) module, but I wouldn't.
As to whether a memory fault is causing the startup problem, I would be more inclined to think that the original (if it is) hard drive is becoming unreliable.  A 15 year-old laptop drive has undoubtedly had a lot of use and in an enclosure that doesn't dissipate heat the way a fan-cooled desktop or mini-tower is capable of doing.  When the PowerBook does manage to complete startup, how much installed memory is indicated when you select "About this Macintosh" from the Apple Menu — 192 MBs?  If so, then both modules are detected and passed the Power-On Self-Test.  If memory problems are detected during the POST, you should hear a beep or beeps at startup, indicating a problem.

  • How to sync iPhone with MBP connected via ethernet to PowerBook where iTunes and iPhoto content resides

I just got the iPhone 5, but I am still using a PowerBook G4 machine that will not sync with my new iPhone.  I was wondering if I could
    1) create a new user for myself on my brother's MBP
    2) connect that MBP with my PowerBook via ethernet
    3) have iTunes and iPhoto on my new MBP user to be mapped to my PowerBook iTunes and iPhoto Library folders respectively
    4) sync the iPhone with my new user on my brother's MBP and acquire all of the content from the iTunes and iPhoto libraries that reside on my PowerBook
Will this work?  Does anyone recommend a different solution to get the content from my PowerBook G4 1.33 to my new iPhone 5

Now I have made a search and you are right. A problem which seemed unique to me is, in fact, very common. It is unbelievable that on one hand the Apple programmers can create great software, but on the other hand they act like retards when they forget about some basic functionality. I really can't believe that I will lose my purchases simply because at Apple nobody thought that people do install a fresh system from time to time. What a shame.
But what about consolidation of accounts? I am being asked to provide account ID which I don't even remember anymore. It seemed natural for me that I download some applications and simply go on with life, just as in about any other website on the internet. But suddenly Apple says that I will not be able to save or transfer my application because I need some funky ID. Hello Apple... My application is already on my phone so I should be able to copy it where I want without some ID. That's really odd.
Anyway, I will try to search the forum and solve my problems. I simply didn't even think in my wildest dreams that Apple software could be sometimes so ********.
