Leadtek 6800 GT with K8N Neo Platinum

Firstly, this is an AWESOME card! I did have the reference design of the 6800 GT but it was deafeningly loud, this thing is totally 100% silent! I honestly can't hear a thing, it's also much cooler.
Anyway, when I installed it the big metal part with the monitor connector etc stopped me from fitting it all the way into the AGP slot at that end. At the right end of the AGP slot it clips in fine however, and it's probably only a mm (maybe less) that the left end sticks out. It works absolutely fine and I've been playing Doom 3 all day with no problems.
Just wondering if this could still cause any problems? And if anyone has any suggestions for a fix?

If you have been playing Doom 3 all day without problems then there really is nothing to worry about

  • How do you Norton Ghost 9.0 with K8N Neo Platinum?

    Hi,
I have K8N Neo Platinum and I can't ghost! I use the Norton's Ghost 9.0 boot CD and push f6 to add Nvidia Raid Driver. I used 2 Nvidia Raid drivers. One was on MSI webpage date 6-23-2004 and the other was 5.10 driver .Both of them say nvidia.sys error and the computer reboots. Has anyone image or clone hard drive in RAID 0 ? What software do you guys to use to clone or image with RAID 0 with this mobo?
    Please Help,

  • Post problem with K8N Neo Platinum

I am assembling a system for a friend and it hangs according to D-Bracket2 on Processor initialization (Led 1:red, led 2:green, led 3: green led 4: red)
    Specs
    PSU:   Codegen 350W    ( 3,3V   14A
                                           5V     30A
                                           12V    15A  )
VGA:   Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB
    CPU:   AMD Athlon 3000+
    HDD:   Seagate 7200.7  120GB  in   SATA1-port
    DVD:   MSI DR8-A  DVD Burner
    RAM:   M-Tec 512MB  DDR400
If the problem is the processor it should hang on Power On (all leds red), right?
There's some damage done to CPU fan connector so the sensor wire from the CPU fan might have no connection to the mobo. How about ESD-damage, can it cause this?
Another thing I might have done wrong is connecting front panel connectors.
I am just hoping and praying that the processor is OK and the mobo causes this.

Thanks to RacerX for answering but the problem wasn't the PSU.
Mobo caused it and I replaced it.  I think it was the physical damage I mentioned in the first post. I also changed hdd from SATA1-port to SATA3-port but I don't think it matters.
Now everything works fine so +12V/15 Amps is enough.
Does the K8N Neo Platinum hang on Processor Init if it doesn't detect CPU Cooler?

  • Can't install Win7 with K8N Neo Platinum (MS-7030)

    Hi,
with an XP system running smoothly on my old machine, I decided it's time for a Win7 installation. However, the Win7 installation crashes after first reboot with a BSOD some 20 seconds into the windows boot process (logo displayed). I suspect missing RAID (nforce3) drivers as the cause of the problem as I'm trying to install onto a logic partition of an existing RAID, but I can't find any drivers for the board/RAID chipset for Win7. Even MSI seems not to provide anything beyond WinXP64, which is a bugger.
I tried the latest drivers from nVidia for the "3000 professional series" (hoping they mean nForce3 by that), but they do only support the RAID as a device class, not as a controller, which is odd (the manual says that both should be listed in the additional driver selection menu of Win7 install).
Can someone help me out, please? Am I missing something? How did you get Win7 to run on your MS-7030-powered machine?
    TIA!

Using ancient technology it is unfortunately pretty normal things will be hard to do. Nvidia stopped nforce 3 support long ago (3000 professional series does not refer to nforce 3) so there are no raid drivers for Win7. Check this thread of another forum on running raid on a K8N Neo2 Plat. (also Nforce 3): http://www.nforcershq.com/forum/solved-k8n-neo2-platinum-msi-nforce3-win7-x86-raid0-t72428.html

but the 4 leds are green.
i tried the two connectors and it's the same thing.
my logitech cordless keyboard doesn't work in the bios
i tried with the ps2 but the keyboard didn't work in XP
i check the bios with an other keyboard and the usb keyboard support is enabled
    can you help me ?
    PS: Sorry for my english

    Hi galette,
    Do you have a k8n neo or neo2 ?
At least some neo2's have problems with ps/2 keyboards. Their users could circumvent this by using usb keyboards.
I have a logitech cordless desktop myself and for me it works. Perhaps you can borrow a usb keyboard to test it ?

  • Cool & Quiet Problem with K8N Neo Platinum

    Hi!
I just formatted my windows xp and encountered weird problem with Cool & Quiet.
Before the format CQ worked perfectly, but now when I apply minimal power management from the properties Windows freezes.
I have 1.2.2.2 drivers installed and CQ enabled from BIOS.
BIOS has been updated to 1.7, 1.9 bugged for me.
Windows XP SP2 + all hotfixes.

If all he has done is "reformat" windows what would have changed in the BIOS magically?  Still seems like the driver to me...Troubleshoot what has obviously changed since things worked normally.  If he didn't touch the BIOS and only reinstalled Windows the driver is the logical issue.
Ugh...even in that linked article the guy is saying the HyperTransport is the link between the CPU and Chipset/RAM.  There goes this RAM thing again.  The memory controller communicates with the DRAM controller no Hypertransport about it...
ok, but where is DRAM controller? in CPU my friend and in Athlon 64 is DRAM controller in CPU so this is HyperTransport - comunication with CPU and memory...no only me has this mention but also another guy and another, so all of us are wrong yout think?

  • Dismal HTT Speeds with K8N Neo Platinum

    3200A63 CG Revision
    2x256 Kingston HyperX
I can not get the HTT over 217 no matter what.  Tried all the different BIOSes and tried setting the Max Mem to 166...  Still nothing.
I thought this was a overclockers board???
When I also flashed to the new BIOS with winflash everything went fine until I rebooted where I got a CMOS Checksum Error (Pressed F1 to continue).  Loaded windows turned off machine, reset CMOS and everything was fine.
No clue how the guys at anandtech.com got the board to 300HTT, someone must be pulling our sleeve.

Well, people seem to have mixed sucess with high fsb :(
    I got 240x10 stable with the 1.1bios, and a clawhammer 2gh/1mb.
My advice would be to set bios at 215, and work from there with clockgen, do makesure that you set agp to 67, and verify with clockgen, that agp/pci stays at 67/33 when raising HTT. And perhaps set the HTT to HTTx3, to eliminate that from causing unstability.
And as SAB said, some gradual burn-in time will propobly help.
Plz. note that I have my ram set at 166 (as I have the cheapest and most crappy ram available)
Also, at higher HTT, the chipset temperature might be a concern, not sure about that, just the "feeling" i get

  • Boot problems with K8N NEO Platinum(no video). SOLVED

I have this board for a few months now, but this week, when powering the system, it gave me no video.
It reads the HD and after a  little while all the lights in the D-Bracket go green. But still no video.
There are other simptoms that can help the diagnosis: sometimes i do get video, the system powers up perfectly. This happens when I repeatedly press the reset button, or try powering on and off, on and off...
I don't think it is cold boot problem, since when I successfully turn on the system and then turn it off, the same boot problem occurs I I try turning it on again.
Another thing is that when I turn it off through Windows, it doesnt actually turn off: the screen ges black, but the HD leds still blink for a looong time. I have to turn it off manually, then. Sometimes it actually turns off, but turn itself on again after 1 second.
So if the D-Bracket sais its all good, then what is bad?
    My System specs are
    Athlon 64 Venice 3000
    1 Gb Corsair DDR
    Leadtek Geforce 6600GT

Its solved now. There was a short circuit. The rouded isolators were placed in the upside of the board, and they should have been under the board. I changed it and all the problems are gone.
    Such a little thing... :D
What is a "rouded isolator" and where is it located.  I would like to see if this will fix my problem.  The same thing is happening to me.

  • Endless problems with K8N Neo Platinum

I am really frustrated. My new motherboard just plain isn't doing what it needs to do. The problems can be put into 3 categories, in order of severity:
    1. Realtek Ac'97 Audio Card DOESN'T EXIST - It isn't even an unknown device in the Device Manager. It doesn't help to install the drivers because as far as the system is concerned there is no internal audio card on the Motherboard. Needless to say, I have absolutely no audio on my system.
    2. USB Ports malfunctioning - All of the USB ports will realize when devices are plugged in, but the drivers for those devices will not load. A little bubble will pop up down in the system tray with the USB symbol that says "One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows doesn't recognize it." Below it shows the supposed "location of the device" which always shows it as an "Unknown Device" on the "USB Root Hub" which I assume means the 4 USB ports attached to the motherboard. It even says this if the device is plugged into D-Link or to the front panel.
    3. Floppy Drive not working - Even though apparently the floppy disk driver is installed and "Drive A" shows up in "My Computer", whenever I try to access the drive with a disk in it a dialogue box shows up saying the disk isn't formatted. When I try to format, it is unable to do so with the message "Windows was unable to complete the format."
I received the motherboard on Thursday, and I've already submitted an RMA with the distributor (Zipzoomfly.com). If you have any suggestions please let me know.

Well...I don't know about the expert stuff, but we've seen some real "dingers" here at the forum...most of the problems are easily fixed - once the correct information is given in the signatures. Most problems have been caused by incompatible memory, and/or lack of a quality power supply.
It sounds as though you had already made up your mind to RMA the board...and with those glitches right off the bat..I would do the same thing. But...I know nothing about your computer, whether it is all new - or you've just added old components to a new motherboard. So you see how important it is to create a signature describing your total system specifications....even amperage ratings on the +12v rails.
Your board could be salvageable...I don't know your set-up though!

  • Display problems with K8N Neo Platinum

I have XP Professional installed on my Raptor fine, but I am having issues with my Radeon 9800.  I cannot boot XP unless I hit F8 and then select "Enable VGA Mode"
When I do not enable VGA mode, my monitor goes blank right before the Welcome screen.
Moving along...now when I boot with "Enable VGA Mode" I cannot change ANY monitor settings.  If I increase the resolution from 640x480/8bit to, let's say, 800x600/32bit, the screen will go blank for a few seconds and then a black screen with a white blinking cursor at the top left corner will show.  After this, my monitor just completely shuts off and I am forced to restart.
I also had problems with the ATi Control Panel.  The ATi driver package installed fine, so I rebooted but when Windows started, I received an error message saying that ATi Control Panel could not load.
I'm baffled right now and I really don't know what to do.  Any help is appreciated, thank you guys very much.

You might want to try and reinstall the video drivers and make sure that you uninstalled the old ones fully with Driver Cleaner.

  • Interesting Observation with K8N Neo Platinum, USB2.0, and CanoScan

I bought a scanner that is a USB2.0 Scanner... the thing is quick as all heck. CanoScan 4200F.
I kept having problems though where if I gave it instructions too quickly (ie., do a preview, and hit SCAN before the scan head returned to the top of the scanner) it would wreak havoc on the scanner, the motor would freak out and the scanhead would do crazy things like bang against the topmost point of its travel... It would get into this state and then the only thing I could do to stop it (would continue to do it even after a full power off of all devices plus computer) was uninstall the scanner drivers and reinstall them.
Tried the scanner on my wife's machine and didn't have the same problem. Commands would "wait" until the scanner was ready. When I put it back on my own machine, I moved the USB port so instead of using one of the on-board USB ports, I used one of the ones on the D-Bracket. Well, now it's still using USB2.0 mode, but it does the "wait" thing now and the problem has been eliminated. It's almost like the ports on the mobo aren't "queueing" USB requests to the device. I'm 95% sure that after the port move, the problem is completely solved. I'll check back if it rears it's head again.
Thought I'd post in case anyone sees any similar issues.

Wonder if there's a good way to test something like this
    - Thought we'd found it - plug your CanoScan 4200F in.
That seems to be the difficult given the plethora of different usb devices.
I'm baffled by the difference as the JUSB1 & 2 sockets are in effect usb sockets the same as any others, just different plugs. Don't know if their on a seperate chip similar to the 2 sata pairs.
It's something to bear in mind though for others having quircky usb behaviour.

  • Turn on PC with keyboard [K8N Neo Platinum]

Is it possible to turn your pc on by pressing a button on your keyboard? I have a friend with an old pc (1,5 ghz P4), and he claims that he can turn his pc on that way.
So technically I'm asking you if you know how to do that. Is there a BIOS option in which you can configure the keyboard button on which your computer will respond and go on automatically? That would be very handy.
My motherboard is the K8N Neo Platinum with a 3000+ socket 754. He has an ASUS motherboard.
    Thanks.

Check the manual. It should be an option in the bios. I have it in my bios for my board, but when I helped someone put together their machine with a K8N Platinum 2, I didn't see this as an option in that bios. It may be that power on by keyboard and/or mouse is not an option for your board.

in the dos install of windows xp, (when it moves files to the hdd) it stopped and said that there was a problem with a file that were to be copied, i pressed enter to try again and  the install moves on,  this accurs 4-5 times and then it gives me a BIG  "IRQL less or not equal".. Blue screen of death.. (it complains on different files each time i try to install xp, tried 15-20 times)
I have tried to change memory to another Kingston KVR400X64C3A/512 512Mb DDR PC3200 400MHz 184pin Unbuffered CL3 with no luck,
changed hdd, change gfx-card. change psu,  removed all no-need pci-cards..
but still same error, i aint no expert so i might have missed something in bios or something :(
please help me if you can..

Flashing bios with memory errors is a veeeeery bad idea .
Almost guarantied to ruin your bios chip with bad data block.
That this even is suggested with mem errors , well .
You need to resolve the mem errors before doing anything else.
The windows xp install routine is a very heavy user of cpu and memory
and will fail if you have mem errors like you have.
Some things to try is entering bios and change auto settings on cpu voltage
giving it 0.5v more than default .
Set the memorys voltage to vendors max approved voltage
    which for yours is 2.6v +/- 0.1v . So it's safe to set at 2.7v .
    Set timings to cas 3 ,ras 3 ,trp 3 , tras 8 , CMD 2T.
Pushing it firmly down in the dimm socket , sometimes it's not all the way down there even if the plastic lockers snap in.
Disconnect all devices not needed for a windows install ,things can be added later.
Have only the hd that os is to be installed to , one cdrom , floppy , memory and
    gfx card .
Disconnect USB case front connector (cause corruption and strange faults if
    USBOC pin is connected)
