Browser can't find a text file opened via the save as dialogue box
Hi there,
I have a servlet which outputs a file using the servlet output stream, with the following lines set:
response.setContentType("application/msword");
response.setHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachement; filename="+ fileName);
servletOutStream.write(myBytes);
servletOutStream.flush();
It works fine for .doc files and it seems the mechanism is that it is saved to the Temporary Internet Folder and delivered from there when the user clicks on the 'open' or 'save' option in the browser popup dialogue box. However... when I try this with text files, (setting the content type to "text/plain") I get the open/save dialogue box up correctly but if I try to open the file it says it cannot find the file, and gives the path under the Temporary Interenet Folder. If I look in there the text file isn't present - though the .doc files are.
So... it looks as if the problem is that for some reason it doesn't save the text files correctly to the Temporary Internet Folder.
I can't deliver the text files inline as a solution as the filename is lost and it thinks it's an html file (which the client doesn't want).
Any ideas?
AlisonAt least also set the content length. Your browser may be configured be the default application to open textfiles. If the contentlength is not set, then most applications would refuse to open the file without choosing for 'Save' first and manually open it.

Scan dialogue wont open in windows 7 what is the issue?
i am pulling my hair out on this one. Ive just purchased a new Officejet 8600 pro plus and the scan dialogue refuses to open. Ive tried all the usual things, even reinstalled the OS and it still doesnt work.
Why does HP package faulty software with new products, surely they would test this across a broad list of platforms before releasing it.Hi,
Here is the few checks to know exact problem
1. Did you try to scan from Microsoft Paint program. (Launch paint ->File->From Scanner or Cammera and chose the printer to scan)
2. Also try webscan. Go to your browser, enter the IP address of the printer into the address bar. Now go to scan tab and do the scan.
If above works, then it is something to do with your PC firewall or antivirus. You may try to stop those and do following steps.

IPhoto on Mountain Lion refusing to delete and constantly crashing
When I upgraded to Mountain Lion (last month),iPhoto began crashing every other time I used it AND it also refused to delete any of my photos! For instance, I will drag an individual picture over to the trash, drop it when it is highlighted, but the picture will still be there with nothing in the trash! This deleting problem happened the first time I started Mountain Lion on my computer. After I updated to OSX 10.8.1, it finally resolved itself until about a couple days ago, when the problem came back. The trash refusal problem appeared again after my entire computer restarted while I was deleting pictures off (instant shut off and automatic restart). No message or anything though. Really strange. There doesn't seem to be any problem like this on the web. Any solutions?
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

I'm using a 7-year old iMac with Snow Leopard. While typing I suddenly found a click on the cursor, anywhere, brought up some unwanted dialogue box I had never seen before and I could not type anything, open anything or quit anything. I managed to restart, but then the password box would accept nothing, right or wrong. Just gave an error bleep each time. Despite several attempts I could not get back in, though there was a Close command under the dialogue box which responded. Panic was setting in, but after a couple of hours shut down the computer was suddenly back to normal.
In case this happens again, does anyone know what went wrong, or what I did wrong, and how to correct it easily?
(I would not blame anyone who said "Update to a new computer")Thank you for replying. I did not note precisely what the dialogue boxes said. They bore no relation to where I was on the screen. It was like gobbledygook. I was trying to continue typing an email and the dialogue boxes were saying things like Delete Folder or Hide File and they disappeared if I clicked on them but reappeared when I next clicked anywhere. It seemed anarchic to me. If I clicked on any icon in the Dock, instead of opening I was asked if i wanted to delete that icon from the Dock. Weird. I may, through overhasty typing have hit on some unintended command or shortcut. What really bothered me was the refusal on restart to accept anything at all in the password box and I began to wonder if I would ever open this iMac again. Because it is not worth having it repaired if that proved necessary.

Quicktime refuses to open WMV files
Hi,
As title, really. It just refuses, whatever I try. I have 'Flip4Mac' installed, and have tried unticking the box 'open sequences with QuickTime', but ticked or unticked, no way does a WMV wanna open. The error is simply a dialogue box with 'Error Opening the Sequence', and below it, 'Impossible to Open the Sequence'.
This error is encountered, irrespective of the file that I try to open.
D.C.Use the Movie Info window of QuickTime Player to view
the codecs used.
A Google search using codec name +Mac should help you
find what you need.
Do you mean "APPLE-I" when the film is playing? No mention of codecs in there. I have, in order ...
source: the name of the film
format: 320 x 240 millions 8-bit, unsigned, mono, 22,050 KHz
IPS: 15
IPS read: (available during playback)
size: 19.75 MB
speed: 434.90 kbits/s
position: 00:00:00.10/15
length: 00:06:20.1/15
size 100: 320 x 240 pixels
actual size: 320 x 240 pixels (100%)
Some of those fields, I had to translate from French, so they might not be what you have on English/American versions of Quicktime.

What In The World Is Going On With NBA League Pass Not Being In HD
I just read a article posted on Dec 21 about "Indemand" recentrly upgrading their systems to carry more content in HD.
http://sportsvideo.org/main/blog/2011/12/21/in-demand-upgrades-comcast-media-center-control-room/
The upgrade was supposed to effect NBA League Pass in providing the game in HD rather than just having one HD Channel. But last night I noticed on Fios that nothing has changed. I was looking forward to buying NBA league Pass this year but I refuse to pay the same fee that other cable systems like AT&T Uverse & Direct Tv are charging top carry league pass in HD in comparison to Standard Def Fios is providing me.
I have been following this forum and news on other sites and have yet to see Verizon Fios put out any Press Release about NBA League Pass.
What is going on!!?!?!!?!Just a friendly reminder, this is a forum where users help other users. It looks like your issue may require a Verizon representative to review your account details. Please contact our customer service team via live chat or email at: http://www22.verizon.com/content/contactus/
Additionally, it looks like your idea would be a perfect candidate for our Idea Exchange. Please search the Idea Exchange for this and cast your vote there. If no such idea exists, feel free to submit this as an idea to Verizon. -

Print & Fax refuses to load or function w/ any programs, Can someone help?
After a hard drive format, re-installation of Snow Leopard, and a Time Machine restore the "Print & Fax" dialogue under System Preferences refuses to open and load. In addition, any program that attemptes to print will also crash. Everything else works fine after the restore.
I reformatted and reinstalled again, I booted in safe mode and repaired permissions, I downloaded printer drivers, I over writed the system preferences with an older version from time machine all to no avail.
Not sure what else to do here. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...I have set the infrared speed to 115,200bps - was 4,000,000bps, might be a little high. I almost only use the IR-connection for synchronizing my Outlook with the phone, so speed is no topic for me.
The IR device is a IBM Think Pad fast infrared-port, driver from National Semiconductor. Hardware Manager also shows: IR transceiver A: IBM SC2H2987, transceiver B: SIR-transceiver.
Anyways, I guess the problem will not show before in a few days, because I have just repaired the Nokia Phone Suite...
But thanks for your suggestions anyway! -
ITunes suddenly refusing connection to Apple TV
Hi,
Problem: iTunes suddenly refusing connection to Apple TV!
I noticed that the above was occuring and checked out iTunes to be dismayed not to see my normal Apple TV in the iTunes devices list.
My problem is similar to ihttp://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1631334&tstart=0
Which appear not to have been answered - yet has "Helpful" answers available: 2 . "Solved" answers available: 1 . (whatever that means??)
The only change I've made recently is not renewing mobileme services. My mobileme user id was also my Apple ID (which should not have expired with the mobileme account). To protect the Apple ID I changed the associated email address to an non mobileme one. As an extra precaution updated my iTunes to the new account email address and verified itunes computer authorisation as well.
At the same time thinking that the Apple TV might need to have its iTunes connection refreshed I removed (as it was not working anymore anyone) the original iTunes setting and set to reconnecting using: settings>Computers>Connect to iTunes
On the Apple TV the usual dialogue appears with the expected 5 digit passcode. I then expected iTunes to pick this up which did not occur in a normal fashion. What did come up was an inane dialogue box with the following comments (the same as I had been getting before all this nonsense started):
'Authentication required
To access this site, you need to log in to area "daap" on 0.0.0.0
Your login information will be sent securely
Name:
Password:'
etc
Obviously I've tried my updated Apple ID / registered email - but they don't work for the login and there appears to be no other explanation for this (obviously I've noted Apple's implementation of DAAP, however I still can't find a solution - hence this post)
I would really appreciate a solution to this as I am now unable to use my Apple TV whatsoever
Stephen
Macbook with OS X 10.5.6 | iTunes 8.0.2 (20) | Apple TV 2.3
Message was edited by: stevieciHi,
I am having the same problem, getting the following message when launching iTunes "To access this site, you need to log in to area "daap" on 0.0.0.0." I just recently update my OS to 10.5.6, but when I launch iTunes (8.02) and try to synch either my iPhone 3g, Apple TV or the wife's Ipod touch, none of which appear.
Is this a know problem?
Cheers

Some of my apps refuse to open. For example, google crome gives me the message that it quit unexpectedly and gives me the option to submit a report to no resolve. Does anyone have suggestions?

Error message after allowing an upgrade:My dialogue box in the error message says: The procedure entry point sqlite3_wal_checkpoint could not be located in the dynamic link library SQLite3.dll--this happened after I allowed an upgrade to be installed. I have HP Windows 7. Now my Iphone will not sync. What do I do?
Found this fix here which worked for me with a similar problem.
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3196594?start=0&tstart=0
With Windows Explorer, navigate to your C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support folder.
Copy the SQLite3.dll that you should find there, navigate to the nearby Mobile Device Support folder, and Paste it in there also.
Reboot and see if all is well. -
Mac Mini repeatedly refuses to wake from sleep
Please to anyone I really need your help.
First let me preface you that I know my console log is incredibly long, and let me know if there is a way to make them more manageable and I will update.
Also let me know which other logs or screen shots or active programs I can provide
I have a 2011 2.5 ghz Mac mini i5 with AMD Radeon 6630M
I have customized this with a 256gb SSD and 2TB HDD as well as 16gb RAM.
I also have a Monoprice drawing tablet attached.
My keyboard and trackpad are bluetooth
I am running yosemite 10.10.1.
10.10 was installed with a clean install.
So here is the issue:
The computer was working perfectly, and then, I can't identify a specific time, it started to just occasionally refuse to wake up from sleep (monitor off, won't activate).
Interestingly it seems to have only started happening AFTER I purchased an apple TV which I use to mirror my screen for video playback. Prior to that I had two mac mini's (one hooked up to TV as a media center and one desktop). This configuration resulted in no freezing issues for a few months.
My parents wanted to get an apple desktop so I ended up giving them my mac mini media center and decided to try using an apple TV mirroring with my mac mini instead.
Now the computer seems to work perfectly fine for a day or two and then it just refuses to wake from sleep.
I do a hard reset and it boots up with no issue and everything works perfectly for a couple days (or less), then it just won't wake from sleep at all.
This can occur when still mirrored to apple TV, but also occurs when it is not.
Background programs tend to be: dropbox, google drive, evernote, flycut, Teamviewer, safari and google chrome
Additionally I have noticed that if the computer has been on for a couple days, when trying got mirror it becomes very choppy.
Activity monitor identifies no CPU or memory hogs. (can post if needed)
The console does seem to show A LOT of issues, but I can't make any sense of them, and I have tried searching google for what they might mean.

Hi,
I've used the default PHP installation on OSX with no problems in the past (after uncommenting the 2 lines in httpd and enabling Personal Web Sharing), but after a recent reinstallation of the operating system (having re-updated all software) PHP refuses to render. HTML files render fine, but when I load up a PHP file, its source is displayed instead of being properly rendered. I like to think I know what I'm doing, but I'm befuddled :/
Any help would be much appreciated.
Here's my httpd.conf, if it helps:
<pre>
## httpd.conf -- Apache HTTP server configuration file
# Based upon the NCSA server configuration files originally by Rob McCool.
# This is the main Apache server configuration file. It contains the
# configuration directives that give the server its instructions.
# See <URL:<a class="jive-link-external-small" href="http://">http://httpd.apache.org/docs/> for detailed information about
# the directives.
# Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding
# what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure
# consult the online docs. You have been warned.
# After this file is processed, the server will look for and process
# /private/etc/httpd/srm.conf and then /private/etc/httpd/access.conf
# unless you have overridden these with ResourceConfig and/or
# AccessConfig directives here.
# The configuration directives are grouped into three basic sections:
# 1. Directives that control the operation of the Apache server process as a
# whole (the 'global environment').
# 2. Directives that define the parameters of the 'main' or 'default' server,
# which responds to requests that aren't handled by a virtual host.
# These directives also provide default values for the settings
# of all virtual hosts.
# 3. Settings for virtual hosts, which allow Web requests to be sent to
# different IP addresses or hostnames and have them handled by the
# same Apache server process.
# Configuration and logfile names: If the filenames you specify for many
# of the server's control files begin with "/" (or "drive:/" for Win32), the
# server will use that explicit path. If the filenames do not begin
# with "/", the value of ServerRoot is prepended -- so "logs/foo.log"
# with ServerRoot set to "/usr/local/apache" will be interpreted by the
# server as "/usr/local/apache/logs/foo.log".
### Section 1: Global Environment
# The directives in this section affect the overall operation of Apache,
# such as the number of concurrent requests it can handle or where it
# can find its configuration files.
# ServerType is either inetd, or standalone. Inetd mode is only supported on
# Unix platforms.
ServerType standalone
# ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
# configuration, error, and log files are kept.
# NOTE! If you intend to place this on an NFS (or otherwise network)
# mounted filesystem then please read the LockFile documentation
# (available at <URL:<a class="jive-link-external-small" href="http://">http://www.apache.org/docs/mod/core.html#lockfile>);
# you will save yourself a lot of trouble.
ServerRoot "/usr"
# The LockFile directive sets the path to the lockfile used when Apache
# is compiled with either USEFCNTL_SERIALIZEDACCEPT or
# USEFLOCK_SERIALIZEDACCEPT. This directive should normally be left at
# its default value. The main reason for changing it is if the logs
# directory is NFS mounted, since the lockfile MUST BE STORED ON A LOCAL
# DISK. The PID of the main server process is automatically appended to
# the filename.
#LockFile "/private/var/run/httpd.lock"
# PidFile: The file in which the server should record its process
# identification number when it starts.
PidFile "/private/var/run/httpd.pid"
# ScoreBoardFile: File used to store internal server process information.
# Not all architectures require this. But if yours does (you'll know because
# this file will be created when you run Apache) then you must ensure that
# no two invocations of Apache share the same scoreboard file.
ScoreBoardFile "/private/var/run/httpd.scoreboard"
# In the standard configuration, the server will process httpd.conf (this
# file, specified by the -f command line option), srm.conf, and access.conf
# in that order. The latter two files are now distributed empty, as it is
# recommended that all directives be kept in a single file for simplicity.
# The commented-out values below are the built-in defaults. You can have the
# server ignore these files altogether by using "/dev/null" (for Unix) or
# "nul" (for Win32) for the arguments to the directives.
#ResourceConfig /private/etc/httpd/srm.conf
#AccessConfig /private/etc/httpd/access.conf
# Timeout: The number of seconds before receives and sends time out.
Timeout 300
# KeepAlive: Whether or not to allow persistent connections (more than
# one request per connection). Set to "Off" to deactivate.
KeepAlive On
# MaxKeepAliveRequests: The maximum number of requests to allow
# during a persistent connection. Set to 0 to allow an unlimited amount.
# We recommend you leave this number high, for maximum performance.
MaxKeepAliveRequests 100
# KeepAliveTimeout: Number of seconds to wait for the next request from the
# same client on the same connection.
KeepAliveTimeout 15
# Server-pool size regulation. Rather than making you guess how many
# server processes you need, Apache dynamically adapts to the load it
# sees --- that is, it tries to maintain enough server processes to
# handle the current load, plus a few spare servers to handle transient
# load spikes (e.g., multiple simultaneous requests from a single
# Netscape browser).
# It does this by periodically checking how many servers are waiting
# for a request. If there are fewer than MinSpareServers, it creates
# a new spare. If there are more than MaxSpareServers, some of the
# spares die off. The default values are probably OK for most sites.
MinSpareServers 5
MaxSpareServers 10
# Number of servers to start initially --- should be a reasonable ballpark
# figure.
StartServers 5
# Limit on total number of servers running, i.e., limit on the number
# of clients who can simultaneously connect --- if this limit is ever
# reached, clients will be LOCKED OUT, so it should NOT BE SET TOO LOW.
# It is intended mainly as a brake to keep a runaway server from taking
# the system with it as it spirals down...
MaxClients 150
# MaxRequestsPerChild: the number of requests each child process is
# allowed to process before the child dies. The child will exit so
# as to avoid problems after prolonged use when Apache (and maybe the
# libraries it uses) leak memory or other resources. On most systems, this
# isn't really needed, but a few (such as Solaris) do have notable leaks
# in the libraries. For these platforms, set to something like 10000
# or so; a setting of 0 means unlimited.
# NOTE: This value does not include keepalive requests after the initial
# request per connection. For example, if a child process handles
# an initial request and 10 subsequent "keptalive" requests, it
# would only count as 1 request towards this limit.
MaxRequestsPerChild 0
# Listen: Allows you to bind Apache to specific IP addresses and/or
# ports, instead of the default. See also the <VirtualHost>
# directive.
#Listen 3000
#Listen 12.34.56.78:80
# BindAddress: You can support virtual hosts with this option. This directive
# is used to tell the server which IP address to listen to. It can either
# contain "*", an IP address, or a fully qualified Internet domain name.
# See also the <VirtualHost> and Listen directives.

# Dynamic Shared Object (DSO) Support
# To be able to use the functionality of a module which was built as a DSO you
# have to place corresponding `LoadModule' lines at this location so the
# directives contained in it are actually available before they are used.
# Please read the file http://httpd.apache.org/docs/dso.html for more
# details about the DSO mechanism and run `httpd -l' for the list of already
# built-in (statically linked and thus always available) modules in your httpd

### Section 2: 'Main' server configuration
# The directives in this section set up the values used by the 'main'
# server, which responds to any requests that aren't handled by a
# <VirtualHost> definition. These values also provide defaults for
# any <VirtualHost> containers you may define later in the file.
# All of these directives may appear inside <VirtualHost> containers,
# in which case these default settings will be overridden for the
# virtual host being defined.
# If your ServerType directive (set earlier in the 'Global Environment'
# section) is set to "inetd", the next few directives don't have any
# effect since their settings are defined by the inetd configuration.
# Skip ahead to the ServerAdmin directive.
# Port: The port to which the standalone server listens. For
# ports < 1023, you will need httpd to be run as root initially.
Port 80
# If you wish httpd to run as a different user or group, you must run
# httpd as root initially and it will switch.
# User/Group: The name (or #number) of the user/group to run httpd as.
# . On SCO (ODT 3) use "User nouser" and "Group nogroup".
# . On HPUX you may not be able to use shared memory as nobody, and the
# suggested workaround is to create a user www and use that user.
# NOTE that some kernels refuse to setgid(Group) or semctl(IPC_SET)
# when the value of (unsigned)Group is above 60000;
# don't use Group "#-1" on these systems!

# ServerAdmin: Your address, where problems with the server should be

ServerAdmin [email protected]
# ServerName allows you to set a host name which is sent back to clients for
# your server if it's different than the one the program would get (i.e., use

# Note: You cannot just invent host names and hope they work. The name you
# define here must be a valid DNS name for your host. If you don't understand
# this, ask your network administrator.
# If your host doesn't have a registered DNS name, enter its IP address here.
# You will have to access it by its address (e.g., http://123.45.67.89/)

# 127.0.0.1 is the TCP/IP local loop-back address, often named localhost. Your
# machine always knows itself by this address. If you use Apache strictly for
