LEAP and WEP

Can I use Leap and wep on the same access point

An answer to your question is not as simple as you might think.
LEAP does not require a static WEP key to be set on the client, and there is no reason to run WEP and LEAP authentication at the same time unless:
-you are migrating your network from open/shared authentication, used a WEP key at one time and are migrating users over to LEAP one at a time.
In the above case, you would technically be running LEAP and WEP on the same access point, but users would only be authenticated by one or the other. Users will not be authenticated by LEAP and static WEP at the same time.
I did this during our migration to LEAP from open/WEP based authentication and it worked beautifully. Once LEAP was up and running, users no longer had to use static WEP keys on the client side.
Also, the awesome thing about LEAP is that it uses dynamic WEP keys which are session specific, but that is another paragraph or two. Just got to cisco.com and search for "dynamic wep".
Good luck to you.

  • LEAP and WEP with DOS

To use LEAP with PCM350, I need to have firmware V5.02.19 or later. Badly with these versions, WEPDOS doesn't work. To be able to configure a WEP key, I need to load firmware V4.25.30 or earlier.
Is there anything to do except load old version to run WEPDOS, and load latest version to use CSCODI with LEAP?

  • 7920 - Firmware Version that support WEP, LEAP and WPA

    Hi Guys,
My Customer have the CallManager version 4.1.3. He have the IP Phone 7920 and need use WEP, LEAP and WPA. Anybody tell me if version cmterm_7920.4.0-03-02 support this protocolos?
    Thank You,
    Wilson

LEAP uses WEP 40 or 128 bit encryption
    WPA (or WPA-PSK) uses TKIP
You can only define one encryption type per radio interface so that is why both won't work simultaneously...
With multiple vlans setup, you can now assign encryption on a per vlan/ssid basis.

  • Can WRT54G use WPA and WEP at the same time?

I used to have a smc 802.11b wireless router and a dlink 802.11b wireless print server.
In order to have WPA and a firewall, I replaced the wireless router with a linksys WRT54G.
Then I realize the dlink print server, even though it has the "g" keyword in the model name, does not do WPA (DP-G321).
Do I have to buy a 802.11g wireless print server? Or is there another solution?
I don't supposed the linksys router can do both WPA and WEP at the same time?
Connecting the print server to the router with a cable is not feasible. They are on different floors.

both of your devices are has a wireless b technology settings, just set a wep encryption on your network rather than wpa because some wireless b devices don;t work with wpa. with regards to your query if wep and wpa can be used at the same time, the answer is no.

  • E4200 Wireless Guest and WEP connects, other security settings do not

I have E4200 with fixed ip 192.168.1.2, DHCP off connected through LAN ports to FIOS ActionTec as 192.168.1.1.  When connecting through wireless network off the E4200, I can obtain and connect fine under Guest network and WEP security, but for any other security setting, WPA, WPA2, Mixed mode, etc.  I get the message "Aquiring network address" forever, and I never get a connection.  How do I troubleshoot?

Is your FIOS ActionTec wired or wireless modem/router…. From where you are receiving the wireless signals to connect… Which operating System that you are running on the computer? It happens only to a specific computer or it happens to all the computers connected in the network?

  • AP350 with LEAP and MAC-Auth

    Hi,
is there any solution for this?
I'd like to do LEAP and MAC-Auth with Microsoft IAS-Server instead of Cisco ACS.
With ACS everything works fine but i have to buy the licences. For IAS i already have them but always 'EAP authentication method is unrecognized'.
The clients all use W2K Prof.- no XP anywhere, so i can't go to EAP-TLS.
    thanks in advance

Sorry, but LEAP is today only available on :
    Cisco Secure ACS

  • After Aiport Extreme Update 2007 001 broke LEAP and 802.1x authentication

Apple Updater installed the Airport update 2007 001. This has completely broken my LEAP and 802.1x network access. It never recognizes the "preferred" networks, and if I connect manually by entering in the password it doesn't transmit any packets.
I tried to reverse the upgrade by following these instructions but then it wouldn't recognize my airport hardware: www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20070126190822382
I tried to file a bug report, but that apple bug reporter seems to be down (it says, "An Exception has Occurred (click triangle to view)" but no triangle exists).
    ***?

I finally discovered what was going on. When doing either the 10.4.9 update or the Airport update, my /System/Library/Keychains/X509Anchors file was either corrupted or completely emptied. The file did remain with 0K size.
I started noticing that all SSL connections from the computer were failing (Safari, iChat, whatever) that depended on the Mac OS X components to do the SSL validation. (Firefox continued to work fine, as it has its own SSL stack.) I then ran the Keychain file check in Keychain, which alerted me to the exact file problem.
My wife also has a MacBook with the same version of Mac OS X, so I was able to copy her X509Anchors file to my computer and everything worked perfectly after that. SSL came back, iChat works, Safari works with SSL, and 802.1x works again.
    Hope that helps someone else...

  • Question connecting iphone 4s wifi using SSID and WEP where do I

Question, I am trying to connect my iphone 4s to a wireless router using SSID and WEP. I have entered the MAC Address on the phone into the Router's Security list.
I think that I also need to enter a code or passphrase on to the phone as well.
Does anyone know how this is done and where do I do it?
    Thank you in advance.

Check the wireless security option of your Wi-Fi router:
If you are using WEP security and have multiple WEP keys on your Wi-Fi router, try configuring your Wi-Fi router to use only a single WEP key in key index 1.
Consider using WPA or WPA2 instead. WPA and WPA2 encryption protocols are newer, more effective security options for wireless networks than the older WEP protocol.

  • Leap and Radius! Other brand cards that are compatible

Our network guys are fixing to build a wireless network with the Cisco Leap and a Radius server for authenticity. I need to know if Cisco is going to make a wireless card for the Compact Flash slot. I have some Tablets and PDA's I would like to use but the don't have PCMCIA slots. If not are there other companys that have wireless cards that are compatible with this authenticity. I am currently working with Symbol Technologies. They say their card will work with this authenticity. The only authenticity I see in the settings on this card is for Kerbos. Does Kerbos work with a Radius server? If not can they build a Kerbos server to be a second way of authenticating the user on the wireless network?

When symbol says their CF card will work within the LEAP architecture, they likely mean using MAC authentication. While it is possible to run LEAP and MAC authentication concurrently, it does significantly weaken the security provided by LEAP alone. It is relatively easy to capture and spoof a MAC address that is valid using simple tools.
Symbol has recently licensed the LEAP architecture from Cisco, but does not yet have any products available supporting this. I have not heard of specific plans for supporting LEAP on their CF product.
Symbol is, however, your best hope for CF/LEAP support. They are partnering with Cisco and, as stated earlier, they have already licensed the LEAP architecture.
Cisco's current product line will not support the Symbol Kerberos security mechanism (at least not in any way I've seen).

  • Satellite M30-107: WPA and WEP security software

I wish to connect my Satellite M30-107 P-M 745 to an up-to-date MIMO G+ wifi network.
I have bought a router and PCMCIA adapter card.
I wish to set-up WPA and WEP security - do I need any special Toshiba software on the PC itself to do this, or do I just use the software that came with the Router and adapter card?
    Thanks

    Hi
First of all you cannot both Wlan encryption WPA and WEP together.
You can use either WPA or WEP. I would recommend using WPA because its safer.
I agree with Barrie. If you want to use one of this encryption you should be sure that the WLan card and the router support this features.
In my knowledge most of the newer Wlan routers supports WEP and WPA. In this case you have only check the WLan card if the option is available or not.
By the way: You don't need any special software to set the encryptions.
You can set the encryptions also in the Windows own WLan configuration area.

I am trying to connect my Nintendo DS to my wireless router but I need my SSID and WEP key. In order to find these I must put in a username and password. The problem is, I have forgotten them and can't get in. Is there a way to find these within my computer? Oh, if it helps, I have a Linksys Wirless-G Router model no. WRT54G v6.

  • LEAP AND VISTA

    Hi,
My college uses leap, and I can't seem to find any client that works with vista, any help?
    Thanks,
    Kevin Huff

What you say doesn't make any sense to me.
If you are using PEAP-MSCHAPv2 then, by definition, you are not using LEAP. There is no support for MSCHAPv2 over LEAP.
What does LEAP configured WAPs mean? Are you saying that you have an SSID configured for LEAP on an access point? There is no EAP type specific information on the AP or WLC, the EAP type is between the client and the RADIUS server. The AP or WLC simply passes the EAP messages directly between the wireless client and the RADIUS server and visa versa.
For example, you won't find the word LEAP anywhere on a configuration web page for an autonomous IOS AP or the centralized wireless controller other than for the local RADIUS server.

My BEFW11S4 Ver 4 once every six months looses its SSID and WEP setting. How is this possible? How do I prevent this? No one else touches this computer.

I have a 'BEFW11S4 - EtherFast® Wireless AP + Cable/DSL Router w/4-Port Switch Ver2' with the lateset firmware upgrage (1.45.10). And my Router also gets reset intermitanly... I loose my WEP and Router Mac table entries leaving me wide open. It is not linked to any power failures or dips. Any help would be appreciated,

  • WPA and WEP

    Hello,
can anybody tell me if its possible to use both WPA and WEP security access on the same SSID.
And can anybody point me out to some references for follow reading.
    Thanks
    Mark

According to the documentation I have been able to find it is possible. See conversation titled Reality Check ... about 10 lines down from this one. The article includes links to the docs. I cannot get it to work, however. I can get my WPA clients to connect but I lose my original WEP clients. If you find a solution please pass it on.

  • Please post if you have WiFi with WPA2-PSK and WEP working on iPod ios4

Quite a few people seem to be having difficulty with getting WiFi with WPA2-PSK and WEP working on iPod ios4. I'd like to know if anyone does have this working. Please let us know iPod model, access point (router) model, and security settings on your setup. I'm reluctant to upgrade if I can't get WiFi because quite a few of my favorite apps need the net. Please do NOT post to this thread if your WiFi is NOT working. Thanks
    I have:
    1. brand new (not yet even initialized) 32GB iPod Touch
    2. iPod Touch 8GB 3rd Gen
    3. Netcomm gateway/router/access point with security set as noted above.
Edit: if you don't know what Gen your iPod Touch is, please see:
    http://support.apple.com/specs/#ipodtouch
The easiest way to tell 2nd from 3rd gen is that 3rd gen has bluetooth (look in Settings/General -- if Bluetooth is there, your iPod is 3rd gen, if not it's 2nd gen or earler).

Thanks a lot to all who responded. I now have registered and upgraded my brand spanking new 32GB iPod Touch to ios4. Before I updated, I registered the new iPod, set up and checked the WiFi connection as described in my OP (except that it was AES - not WEP as noted above) and it worked just fine. I then updated to ios4 and it still worked fine, with no further input from me. It just connected as it should have after the update and all internet functions connect and work as expected.
To those who have had problems, my sympathy, but the problems are clearly not due only to ios4 -- there has to be something else going on with your connections.
