Learn to write code for app

I am brand to new creating an app or writing code.  I just thought of an idea for an app that isn't created yet so I wanted to reseach how to do that.  I understand it will take a long time to learn how to write code and everthing else that goes into creating an app.  I just want to know from everyone out there what your suggestions are for learning how to do that.  I know there are books and websites and a whole lot else out there stating they are the 'best' at teaching how to write code, but I want some of your opinions on what really is the best way to learn.  Thanks!

Hi brad344. I too am just beginning to learn how to make Mac Apps.
As Mark says, "Save your $99..." until you're ready to publish your app. Note that if you're developing mobile apps (iPhone, iPad, etc), you cannot test your app on a mobile device unless you buy the iOS developer account.
If you are developing Mac apps, I would recommend the book "Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X Fourth Edition" by Big Nerd Ranch. I'm in the process of reading it. Though it can be somewhat in-depth, if you have the talent of app development, you'll be able to figure it out
I also bought the book "Programming in Objective-C Fourth Edition" Developer's Library. I've finished this book and I didn't find it as useful as the other book for developing apps, although it does provide some good fundamentals.
You can also get some good information at the Mac Dev Center online. It's a good in-depth resource center, for example it provides good info on icons, code signing, user interface guidelines, etc.

    Okay, that's better. It would have been nice if the code was formatted, and if there was about 20% of that code. (Your example could have been just one JLabel and nothing else, for example.)
    Anyway, now that you've posted that code, what is your question about it? I see you are calling a "getAvailableFontFamilyNames" method; do you have a question about that? If so, what is the question?

  • How do I write code for a website that is viewed in different browsers?

    Hello.  My website looks fine when using the Firefox and Safari browsers.  But when I went to the library and viewed it using Internet Explorer, it looks bad.  It doesn't look the way I want it to.  Many of the elements are in different positions, etc.  I thought about how to correct this.  And I'm guessing that another html file can be created with another style sheet attached and designed just for Internet Explorer.  But then I thought about how the server would determine which file to use when the visitor types in the URL.  I have no idea how to do this.  I would greatly appreciate knowing how to write code that enables visitors, whether they use Firefox or Internet Explorer, to view my website that has the same style and elements in the correct positions on each webpage.   Thank you very much.

    You need to close your img tags (shown below in red).
    <img src="images/home_page/snowscene_web.jpg" />
    <img src="images/home_page/2011-1_201_p5_christians_nora_pixel2_2_web.jpg" />
    <img src="images/home_page/poster_final_web.jpg" />
    Your home page looks OK in IE8 & 9 but looks bad in Compatablity Mode (which is essentially IE7).  Try adding this META tag just below your <title> tags.  This will force older IE browser into IE8 or IE9 standards mode if it's available.  IE7 is pretty much obsolete now.

  • Where to write code for i_step =0

    Hi,
    I have written code for variable i_step=0 in CMOD.
    I am not able to test the code.
    Could you pls tell us, how to test the code and when this code will be populated.
    Where do i need to set break point , to see the code execution in debugging.
    Thanks

    You will write the logic using CMOD transaction only.You can set the break point the cmod code itself to check your code is working fine or not.
    I_STEP = 0
    The enhancement is not called from the variable screen. The call can come from the authorization check or from the Monitor. This is where you want to put the mod for populating the authorization object.
    Check the sample code
    case i_vnam.
      WHEN 'ZGMGRANT'.  "Query field name
        if i_step = 0.
    BREAK-POINT
          clear wa_ETRANGE.
    *     Gets all grants a user is able to see from ZTable,
    *     which is populated elsewhere
          select grant_nbr
            from ZGMUSERGRANTS
            into corresponding fields of table it_ZGMUSERGRANTS
           where UNAME eq sy-uname.
    *     Populate Authorisation Object. In i_step 0
    *     E_T_RANGE is used to populate the authorisation object
          loop at it_ZGMUSERGRANTS into wa_ZGMUSERGRANTS.
            wa_ETRANGE-sign = 'I'.
            wa_ETRANGE-opt = 'EQ'.
            CALL FUNCTION 'CONVERSION_EXIT_ALPHA_INPUT'
              EXPORTING
                INPUT         = wa_ZGMUSERGRANTS-grant_nbr
             IMPORTING
               OUTPUT        = wa_ZGMUSERGRANTS-grant_nbr.
            wa_ETRANGE-low  = wa_ZGMUSERGRANTS-grant_nbr.
            append wa_ETRANGE to E_T_RANGE.
          endloop.
        endif.
      ENDCASE.

  • Trying to write code for clicking on the links that are in HTML table

    Hi,
    I have an application, where in I created a table test for one HTML table. The table test case is passed. Now I am trying to write some VBA code for clicking on the links that are in the table.
    Please help me.
    I was trying to write the following code:
    Dim tbl As HTMLTable
    ' tbl = "window(index=0).Tag[TABLE](index=11)"
    Dim tblrow As HTMLTableRow
    For Each tblrow In tbl
    tblrow.click
    Next
    but getting error as runtime error 424: Object required.
    Is what I am doing is correct.
    I also have another question regarding assigning the no of links to a integer.
    Call RSWApp.WriteToLog("Number of links", objDocument.links.Length) ( i have this code from one of the forum entries).
    This writes the links to the Results log. but is there a way to assign this value to an integer.
    Thanks in advance.
    Sailaja.

    Hi,
    Thanks.
    Q1: I am able to copy all the links to a .csv file for databank. But not able to pass that variable through VBA code in order to click the links.
    I used the following code to copy the links from the application to .csv file
    Dim myFs As Scripting.FileSystemObject
    Dim myFile As Scripting.TextStream
    Set myFs = New Scripting.FileSystemObject
    Set myFile = myFs.OpenTextFile("C:\Empirix\eTEST\DataBank\linksData.csv", ForWriting)
    Q2: I was using the following code for clicking. ( This is different from above. I was trying other alternative without using databank.)
    Dim myDoc As HTMLDocument
    Dim myLink As HTMLAnchorElement
    Set myDoc = RSWApp.om.GetTopDocument
    For Each myLink In myDoc.links
    If myLink.Id = "AppsNavLink" Then
    myLink.click
    End If
    Next
    The problem here is, The "clicking" is happening but not visible in the application. I have 70 links to click, after the test is passed, the cursor is pointing to the last link ( 70th link).
    Please help me if I am doing wrong.
    Thanks,
    Sailaja.

  • No License Code For App

    Dear BlackBerry App World Community
    The App in question is: Easy Smiley, from S4BB
    I was told by a third party supplier to inquire from the community here about my missing license code.
    I would not of thought that this would be the direction which I would take, seeing I never bought it from BlackBerry but this third party to BlackBerry.
    This is what they said, taken for the replied email sent to me! Re: (Case 296938) My App Licence
    Hello
    would advise to contact BlackBerry as we have no access to their system to check on the problem with connecting to App World email is [email protected] or http://www.blackberry.com/appworld/support
    Best regards,
    S4BB Limited
    Email: [email protected]
    Web: http://www.s4bb.com
    The letter before this, that was sent, implied I never found this query of which I asked.
    Hello
    As for App World: you need to go to open it, go to "My World" and hit "Log-in" in the menu. There you need to enter your log-in info and you will then be able to download and install all products you purchased on BlackBerry App World previously.
    If there is any problems you can contact BlackBerry App World support on: [email protected] or http://www.blackberry.com/appworld/support
    Best regards,
    S4BB Limited
    Email: [email protected]
    Web: http://www.s4bb.com
    This was how I found the problem in the first place.
    Below I have pictures of where I found the problem, and is it true that My BB Community will help me to find why this problem has come about or is it the duty of the third party to look through their accounts.
    Please Direct Me what I should do.
    Yours Sincerely

    And Apps that show their license codes:

    Before I again guess wrongly, please provide your ENTIRE situation. You have now added the fact that your BB recently went in for repair...I could not have guessed that from your first post. So, now we know the following:
    Your BB recently went in for repair
    ALL of your issues surfaced since that repair
    Your issues are:
    You are unable to reinstall your previously installed apps
    You are unable to send messages of some kind (I cannot tell if those are emails you attempted, or something else)
    You have "some features" "barely working"...but you have neglected to say what those are
    You have lost some data, and are confused about that (did you not take a backup prior to sending it in for repair????)
    Please confirm/correct this information...accurate information is of course a prerequisite to receiving adequate guidance.
    But, you have not reported back with anything to do with the on-device AppWorld interface that we started off with...have you done anything I've suggested you attempt? I hate to waste your time reading my posts if you are just going to ignore me...
    So, at the risk of further being ignored, here are some steps you need to conduct, in order, even if they seem redundant to what you have already tried (steps 1 and 2 each should result in a message coming to your BB...please wait for that before proceeding to the next step):
    1) Register HRT
    KB00510 How to register a BlackBerry smartphone with the wireless network
    Please wait for one "registration" message to arrive to your Messages app
    2) Delete and Resend Service Books
    KB05000Delete the service book for the BlackBerry Internet Service email account from the BlackBerry smartphone
    If you have no CMIME entry, then skip the deletion
    KB02830 Send the service books for the BlackBerry Internet Service
    Please wait for "Activation" Messages, one per already configured email account, to arrive in your Messages. If you have no already configured email accounts, please wait 1 hour.
    3) Batt Pull Reboot
    Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
    Hopefully that will get things going again for you! If not, then have you considered asking the people you sent it off to why they returned it in such a non-functional condition?
    Oh and one last thing...please drop the font size of your posts...the HUGE font you are using is hard on the eyes plus makes the reader think that perhaps you are wanting to YELL your information. I'm sure you don't intend that, but such is the case.
    Good luck and let us know!!

  • How do I find the code for Apps for iPads?

    I want to get a free app for my IPad bur I can't find the right code. I've tried the name and the letters after it, the type and the numbers after that but it's always wrong!

    Again, it's not clear what "code" you are talking about. Are you talking about your Apple ID name and password? Or are you being asked to enter in a payment method when you try to set up your iTunes Store account?
    If you're being asked for a payment method, then you will need a credit card or a prepaid iTunes card (which you redeem per the information King Penguin provided. If you only want the free apps and cannot enter a payment method or do not wish to do so, take a look here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534
    Read the steps carefully as the order in which you follow them is  critical. Note that you can do this only when creating a new Apple ID. You cannot use an existing ID.
    You will of course not be able to get anything other than the free apps without entering in some sort of payment method (credit card, prepaid iTunes card, gift certificate, etc.)

  • How to get codes for app.executeCommand() method?

    Hi There,
    I have used some command codes before to get at specific items AE's global menu before, but only because I was able to reference them here on the discussions.  For example, to bring up the General Preferences windows, I can use this:
    app.executeCommand(2359);
    How can I find the exact code to use for any other command?  Is there a comprehensive list somewhere?  Is there a method to debug AE so I can inspect for them?
    Thanks for your time and help!
    Best,
    Arie

    You can just use findMenuCommandId() like this:
    app.executeCommand(app.findMenuCommandId("Convert Audio to Keyframes"));
