Learning Burning ~ playlists in a folder ?

__Hello gang,
. . . ...I'm preparing my 1st data-burn to DVDr, researching w/ the 4th edition of iTunes/iPod Missing Manual, & perhaps boldly, i thought a folder of playlists would work for compiling a good amount for my 1st burn.
_In experimenting w/ "what i could fit" I dropped a playlist into the folder, then tried to drag it back out, that don't work, it isn't covered by undo, and now I've ended up combining tracks into playlists when i tried to drag it back to it's original place in the source~list.
If I haven't gotten you quite as confused as ME, is there any way to back out of these last few goofy~moves , short of reconstructing the merged playlists from scratch ??

You can preference any color that is available. I believe the default is blue.
If you take a PL and drop it into a folder of nested PL's then all that happens is that you have moved a PL into that folder.
If you highlight a folder of PL then you will see all the tunes in all the PL together. If you take the tunes from one PL and select all the tunes and do a CMD-I (Apple Key + I) you can make a golbal change in the Grouping slot - ie: PL 1. Then in the viewing of the folder you can set the view (CMD-J) to show the grouping column.
If you have dropped a PL into another PL all the tunes from both PL's will now be in one PL. If you had done a grouping of each PL then you could see which tunes are from which PL.
When experimenting it is best to use PL's with only a few tunes before moving large groups of tunes. And you do b/u - right?

  • How can I organize playlists within a folder?

I want to use iTunes to burn an MP3 cd containing a number of albums by one artist.
I name the Folder after the artist, and then create a few of playlists within that folder (into which I import each album.)
But if I name each playlist after the album it contains, the Folder arranges them alphabetically and, for example, "Fourth album" gets placed above "Second album." [F before S.]
And if I name each playlist numerically, it only works to the ninth playlist, eg "9." After that the folder wil place "10." BEFORE "1.!"
What characters can I use to continue my numerically named playlists in order?

    Try 001, 002, 003, etc.

Mel,  Sure, although that is "copying," not "burning."  It is easily done, as follows:
Insert the USB stick into your computer, and open it up so it looks like a folder.  Highlight the songs you want in iTunes, and drag them into the folder.
If you normally run iTunes in full screen mode, make it smaller so that you can do the drag.

  • Burn Playlist to Data CD and Tracks Get Put in Folders

    Hi Guys,
When i want to make a CD for my car, which supports MP3 and AAC, i just drag and drop all the songs onto a playlist, which I then burn to the CD. Sometimes when i do this, the CD burns all as one folder, so i have 180 tracks or so 1 after the other, which i what i want. However other times, such as with the playlist i have made and want to burn, they go into folders of the artist names so for instance 2 songs by the same artist is in the same folder. I find it much easier to operate my car's CD Player when they are just track after track and i dont have to scour folders to find songs i want to play. Is there a certain requirement to stop iTunes doing this, or a tickbox or something i am missing in Preferences?
Thanks a lot for your help
    Chris

  • I have a 2008 imac with snow leopard.  i installed update 10.9.3 not realizing it's best for Maverick's users.  Now my Itunes 11.2.2 won't burn playlists to CD.   Anyone else with this problem?  CAn I uninstall the 10.9.3 update?

i have a 2008 imac with snow leopard.  i installed update 10.9.3 not realizing it's best for Maverick's users.  Now my Itunes 11.2.2 won't burn playlists to CD.   Anyone else with this problem?  CAn I uninstall the 10.9.3 update?  Also my HP scannerwill not save the displayed scanned document since this update!  it just saves gray.

If you have your old system backed up then erase the drive and restore your backup. If you don't have a backup then backup your entire Home folder. Erase the drive and install Snow Leopard after which you can restore your Home folder from the backup.
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
    Or you can:
Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Reinstall the 10.9.3 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.3 Update (Combo).
    4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Reinstall the 10.9.3 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.3 Update (Combo).

  • How do I  burn Playlist to disc, when it is greyed out.

Hi, I have updated to itunes 7 and the first thing I did was lose all my music off my ipod, as I didn't have it in the library. I now think that I have all my music back as I had backed up on DVDs.
I know that itunes is s'posed to be a one way thing but I don't see why.
Now I am redoing my playlists, is there anyway to back these up??
I see in files that it says "burn playlist to disc" but it is greyed out. If this can be done, great but how??
If one of you clever chaps knows how please let me know too.
    Many thanks, Chrisie.

Hi there, I had a look but there are no playlists saved there, as the playlists are not saved in the itunes library this may be the reason.
Anyway I don't want to reinstall at the mo. I want to save them so I dont lose them again.
I was hoping if I could get them into a folder or on a disc that I could easily upload them again. I mean, why is there a greyed out area in files?
    Hope someone can help.
    thanks anyway, Chrisie.

  • Can not burn playlists

Until recently all was well with Itunes and the way it functioned. I believe it was after a software upgrade I lost the abilty to burn playlists. The error message is something like can not find cd driver software. It shows the DVD Burner but instead of it being the D: drive it shows it as F:
I do not belleve that I changed anything else on my computer.
I have removed and reloaded Itunes, tried the repair Itunes function but the problem remains the same. Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

  • Can't Burn Playlists to Disc ... Error 43 ... iTunes was Not Properly Installed ... Diagnostics Included

Hi. Immediately after installing iTunes a dialogue window appears stating that "itunes was not properly isntalled. if yuou wish to import or burn cds you need to reinstall itunes." This happens even after I complete the installation w/ antivirus disabled.  Indeed, I am unable to burn playlists to cds.  Upon attempting to do so, iTunes produces the ambiguous error message:  "Disc Recording not found ..."
My instinct tells me this is a problem w/ the GEAR driver software. I've uninstalled the driver manually, and then reinstalled it as per: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2308 (Solution 3). Still, the problem persists.
    Any ideas?????

If it's any help I have found I can't burn discs any longer in this precise version of iTunes. I have gone back to the previous version where everything is fine in this respect. My symptoms were not quite the same as yours but the result was the same - I couldn't burn discs. Yours is the first post on this I've found so I suspect Apple may not be aware of the issue or it is affecting relatively few users. If I find a solution I will post again and meanwhile hope that the next update solves the problem.

  • Please help. I do not have the "burn playlist option when I am on itunes. I have a playlist, but no matter what I do, I can not figure out how to burn it. There are no burn options anywhere

I can not burn my playlist. Everyone keeps talking about this magic "burn playlist, or "burn cd option, but I can not find it anywhere. I have a playlist ready to go and a cd in, and ready to burn. I am at a loss for what I am not doing, or missing. Please help

Those are the instructions for your computer's iTunes (i.e. using the Store menu at the top of your computer's iTunes and selecting 'View My Account' on it). If you are doing it on your iPad then are you following the instructions for iOS devices :
    To unhide your purchases
Depending on the content type, open the App Store, iBooks, or iTunes Store on your device.
Scroll to the bottom of the main page.
If you're not already signed in, tap Sign In.
Tap your Apple ID name, then tap View Account.
Scroll down on the Account pane, and tap Hidden Purchases.
Locate the item you would like to unhide then tap the Unhide button.

  • Burning playlists from my iTunes to CD doesn't work anymore. Keep getting a "medium write error" message.  What does this mean?

I'm trying to burn playlists onto a cd from itunes.  I keep getting a "medium write error" message.  What does this mean?  I heard that this may mean that I should try burning at a slower speed.  I tried this and that didn't help.  I also heard that I may need to use a different brand of CD-R disc.  I have not tried this yet.  I also heard that it could be a software issue or disc drive issue.  I recently updated my macbook pro software from tiger to snow leapord.  Do you think this could have affected my itunes playlist burning capabilities?  Thanks for the help.

A system upgrade should not have affected anything. When did you notice the loss in functionality?

Installed itunes update 10.5.0.142 and now get the error message "Disc Burner or Software Not Found" when trying to burn playlist to disc.  Windows 7

    Hello queenabs,
It sounds like you are trying to burn a playlist to a disc in iTunes, but you are getting the error, "disc burner or software not found."  I found a couple of resources that I think might help with an error like this.
I recommend starting with the steps in this article:
iTunes for Windows: Optical drive is no longer recognized, or "Disc burner or software not found" alert after install
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2308
If you are still having trouble with burning a disc after following the steps in that article, I recommend following the steps in this article:

  • Burned playlist to data DVD; song out of order

Why would "Burn Playlist to Disk' change the order of the songs in a playlist? Mine came our sorted by album name...not in the order I created in the playlist.
Have I got some setting wrong?

by album. I've tried all the variations of "album" too, by clicking on it a few times.
But I just discovered that if I don't have the track number listed in the Info section, that it gets out of order. I've manually changed a few and it has worked. Just wish I got it before it went into the system.

  • Has anyone had problems trying to burn playlists to CD's so tht they can play on standard CD players.

Has anyone had problems trying to burn playlists to CD's, so that they can play on regular CD players?

Yes, I have had problems playing burned IDVD's on stand alone dvd players and on pc's.
I have set the burn speed to 4x and as low as 2x to no avail.
I will try Verbatim discs and DVD-R  to see if that resolves my problem.
I will also make sure of the minimum of 25 gb free space on hard disk.
Do you prefer a particular cleaning-dvd?  I've never used one on my macmini.
Thanks for your responses, I'm anxious to try your suggestions and see what happens.
