Learning Curve for Rules - coming from HFM 9.3.3 to 11.1.2 Cal Mgr

We are currently are on 9.3.3 for HFM, Planning, and Essbase and contemplating an upgrade to 11.1.2.2. In the documents for 11.1.2.2, I read that we will have to migrate to calc manager for the rules. We are currently on the classic versions for each application rather than EPMA.
Whats the learning curve for moving to calc manager? Are people taking a class on it or picking up on their own?

Hi all,
I just completed an installation of 11.1.2.2 and I am testing various applications in order to assess the situation and propose to my clients.
Calculation manager is not the only way to maintain your rule file. As I have seen Oracle has discuntinued the Rule Editor but you can use any notepad to edit your rules (Notepad ++ for example) and load the rule file Workspace.
I am not really impressed from calculation manager yet. Definately in one of the following versions we will have to migrate all the rule files but I do not believe that we can do that in this version. For example in my files there is a huge issue of displaying the variables....

• ASA5500: TCP state bypass for traffic, coming from IPsec tunnel

Hello!
We have problems on central firewall with restricting traffic coming from remote office from IPsec. (The network sheme is attached)
All branch offices are connected to central asa though IPsec.
The main aim is to rule access from branch offices only on the central firewall, NOT on each IPsec tunnel
According to the sheme:
172.16.1.0/24 is on of the branch office LANs
10.1.1.0/24 and 10.2.2.0/24 are central office LAN
The crypto ACL looks like permit ip 172.16.1.0/24 10.0.0.0/8
The aim is to
restrict access from 172.16.1.0/24 to 10.1.1.0/24
When packets are generated from host 10.1.1.10 to 172.16.1.0/24 all is ok - they are dropped by acl2
When packets are generated from 172.16.1.0/24 to 10.1.1.10 they are not dropped by any ACL - the reason is stateful firewall - traffic bypasses all access lists on a back path
I thought that TCP State Bypass feature can solve this problem and disable stateful firewall inspection for traffic coming from 172.16.1.0/24 to 10.1.1.0/24, but it didn't help.
The central asa 5500 is configured according to cisco doc http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/asa/asa82/configuration/guide/conns_tcpstatebypass.html
access-list tcp_bypass_acl extended permit tcp 172.16.1.0 255.255.255.0 10.1.1.0 255.255.255.0
class-map tcp_bypass_map
description "TCP traffic that bypasses stateful firewall"
match access-list tcp_bypass_acl
policy-map tcp_bypass_policy
class tcp_bypass_map
set connection advanced-options tcp-state-bypass
service-policy tcp_bypass_policy interface outside
service-policy tcp_bypass_policy interface inside
Does anyone know, how to make TCP State Bypass works properly?

I understand the pain of creating diffrent crypto for diffrent tunnels but i never come across better solution. However TCP state bypass is not going to help in regards to restrict access. TCP state bypass is a way to for FW to act like router which does not do statefull and I dont think that fits in your scenario.
You can still control access on center site by using vpn-filters.

• How steep is the learning curve for FCP?

Hi!
I have been using iMovie for years and want to learn how to drive FCP. Can anyone give me an idea for the 'steepness' of the learning curve?
FCP does seem a lot more complex than iMovie, at least at first glance.
cheers,
Hans-Martin Wagner

Don't forget anything... that's just silly. Editing is editing, regardless of what application you use. Some people think that knowing everything there is to know about a program will suddenly make them a good editor. It won't. Editing is an art. Your question, although totally prudent in your situation, is like asking someone what the learning curve is when moving from pencil drawing to painting. You don't have to forget how you hold and use a pencil to learn how to hold and use a paint brush.
The learning curve is entirely dependent on how well you learn new things. When you learn French, for instance, you don't forget how to speak English, do you? No, you translate. You find the similarities, and accommodate.
Here is my advice, for what it may be worth. If you say you know iMovie, and that it does everything you need, then make a nice long list of the things you do in iMovie. Be as detailed as you can be, in your workflow, and then pick up a manual and look up those things. You don't need to know everything that FCP is capable of. You only need to know the things you want to do with it. As you get going, you will inevitably discover the rest.
I have found that all computer applications are more or less the same. The more apps you use, the easier it is to learn others. The tools are in different locations, and may have different names, but they do the same things. Learn to translate. Don't start over, though...

• Bought my first Mac and am curious about the learning curve for FCE HD

After 30+ years in the DOS/Windows/PC world, I've ordered my first Mac -- a Mac Pro -- with Final Cut Express HD.
I was wondering if other switchers could give me an idea of the kind of learning curve I'm looking at. I have used Sony Vegas Video almost exclusively for the past 5-6 years.
Thanks!

I have no experience with Vegas so don't know what the similarities and differences will be.
People like Tom Wolsky (the main contributor to this forum) will be able to advise you on that.
I came from Premiere 6.5 and found the transition reasonably quick and pain-free.
I would suggest that you get an editing workshop book. Tom has written several but of course you will need FCE 3.5.
He guides you easily step by step from the complete basics (connecting the camera etc.) to a high level of editing skill.

While you are there, take a look at the rest of his site, which has a useful FAQ etc.

• Learning curve for a non techie-Business Catalyst. Two specific questions.

Hello everyone,
Thanks for reading. I am a non techie who is looking at website development as a secondary skill.ie. having the know how to atleast relay my ideas to web developers and ideally to be able to tweak and in the end able to create my own websites.
In this regard, I feel Business Catalyst is an excellent tool, for people like me which mitiagtes the knowledge of coding to an certain extent. I am currently going through some of the content listed in the forums. Is there a book that provides end to end detailed steps of all the implementation to complete a fully functioning website and how much is the learning curve in this regard?
Also,
Business Catalyst offers all in one features, is it possible to use 3rd party in place of default tools for specific function, say use wordpress for blog and a different email marketing service?
Have a good one.
Thanks
Satish

I personally would tend to prefer wordpress for a small non-commercial website/blog. Its ecosystem of plugins is far more diverse than BCs and you get direct access to the code if you want. BC's blog and forum modules seem somewhat like afterthoughts designed by marketers for marketing, and there's some unevenness to the way they implement what HTML and templates you have access to and what you don't in different context, so to a degree wordpress gives you more fine-grain control over a site.
The transverse of this is that with open source software you don't necessarily have the quality control or guarantee of long-term maintenance that you might with BC. Business Catalyst is far more initially optimized for business (obviously) and its servers can likely experience a higher load and greater uptime than you might get on a typical hosting service with wordpress.
Wordpress is kind of notorious for being hackable, mostly because of its ubiquity, although if you work on it it can be secured to a reasonable degree I think -- I'm not aware of any security issues regarding Business Catalyst, apart from recent issues with the captcha and spam which might have been resolved with Akismet and Recaptcha (both of which you can also get on Wordpress obviously) but personally I don't like having all of my accounts linked with a single Adobe username/password.
But then again, I have to trust that Adobe has their **** together and there isn't some festering zero-day sitting at the heart of all of it because the price you pay for playing in BC's sandbox is just that -- it's their sandbox. They're not releasing the code. If you can't change it with an existing module setting or can't hack around with with javascript then complaining until they fix it's your only option.
In short, I think it depends on your needs. Neither is entirely the wrong answer, and both have their issues. I've been just as frustrated with some of the rendering bugs and limitations in BC as I have with the way Wordpress (IMHO) overdoes abstraction while simultaneously sticking with its horrendous code-and-content mixing template style. If you have inventory and need to push stock and don't really care about mucking around with server-side code or anything really complex than BC will probably work for you, and of course there are always sites like bcgurus and these forums to help out with edge cases.

• How steep is the learning curve for InDesign?

5-1
I am a book author and previous works are out of print. I have scanned and digitized the books but need to revise and re-print several that are filled with color photos, using on-dermand technology. SOem of these books will also be pub;ished as e-books with embedded features like videos. Is it silly for me to try to learn how to lay out and prepare for printing a 200+ page book, or is the learning curve so steep that I am better off hiring an agency to do this work? I have never used Pagemaker so this is a whole new experience for me. Need advice PLEASE! THANKS to all - Joel

Do you enjoy solving puzzles (page layout is often about fitting too much stuff into too little space, and making it look good), are you a little geeky (InDesign is a very complex piece of software, and you need to understand the technical stuff as much as the artisitic to be really successful) and do you have experience working with images (you mentioned a lot of photos)? Would you consider the challenge of learning the software fun or a pain?
Any reasonbly bright person (and I hve no reason to think you aren't at the very least reasonably bright) can learn to use InDesign, but if you are doing so only because you think you "have to" you'd probably be better off hiring a pro. On the other hand, if you like a challenge and want to put a few weeks or even months into learning what you need to know, then go for it. Aside from books, you'll find some free tutorials on the web, good, but not free, tutorials at lynda.com, possibly some good classes at your local community college or adult education, and plenty of free advice right here when you get to the point where you have more complex questions.
I used to teach InDesign at my local community college. We offered regular semester-long courses which were worthwhile and some six-hour classes that were a joke. I teach the production staff of the student newspaper what they need to know to produce that particular project in an afternoon, but they don't get fluent for a few weeks, and they'd mostly be lost, even after a semester, if asked to branch out to something new like a book.
You mention your books will get distibution in electronic format instead of or in addition to print, and that's an additional layer of complexity to learn (and you really need to understand the requirements and the limitations for producing electronic publications, in my opinion, before starting your project if you want everything to go smoothly). I think the question isn't so much how steep is the curve, but will you enjoy the climb, or do you just want to get to the top as quickly as possible. If you're not sure, download the trial (Ok, folks, I know one of you bookmarked where the CS5 trials are hidden for the next couple of weeks) and take it for a spin so you have a better idea waht you're in for before you shell out the big bucks.

Hi,
I have more than one record with the same key combination that comes from R/3. I have a condition wherein I write into an error log. Hence I want only ione entry to be written into a error log and not multiple instances.
I had written a similar one for ODS.
Loop at IT_ODS into WA_ODS.
Collect WA_ODS into IT_SUM.
How to collect data that is coming in from R/3. Any inputs?

Hi,
I think, by using ATEND you can acheive control break logic.

• CUP 5.3 - Role Reaffirmation for roles coming from ERM

Hi All,
our source system for roles in the CUP is the ERM.
can i do Role Reaffirmation for those roles ? because i saw that they don't come with validity dats
Thanks
Yudit

Hi,
My personal recommendation would be to either go with spreadsheet or backend system. Even when you bring roles from SAP system, it doesn't have any role reaffirm date as there is no such field in backend system. If you want to maintain roles properly then please configure them in spreadsheet so if you need to do mass changes it would be very easy to perform those updates.

• Listening in main application for event coming from custom component

I have a custom component that im using for a login. i watch videos and tutorials on how to pass variables between custom components and application. the problem im having is that must tutorials or explanation have you put the event on the custom component and then it refers to some function within the main app.
Is there a way to just listen on the main app when that event kicks off? ive been trying for hours and i know there has to be something im missing it cant be that hard. any help i would really appreciate.
Thanks
Miguel

Sounds like you're asking about addEventListener():
<fx:Script>
<![CDATA[
import mx.events.FlexEvent;
protected function windowedapplication1_creationCompleteHandler(event:FlexEvent):void
comp.addEventListener("test", testHandler);
private function testHandler(e:Event):void {
trace(e);
]]>
</fx:Script>
<local:TestComponent id="comp"/>
Add an event listener on your custom component (first string is the 'type' of the event).

• What is security central - is it a virus (it pops up saying needed for firefox-coming from you)...google said it is a dangerous virus -- any protection?

Received 3 popups today - indicating that Firefox wanted to install Security Central 137 and Security Central 577 because my computer is unprotected (then a number of trojans and viruses were listed). I didn't buy it, so googled "security central" -- search revealed that security central is a virus.
Is security central OK or not...was that popup from Firefox or Mozilla? If not, is there a fix?

My Avira detect that installer as a virus, beware of it!!!

• Best desktop publisher for MBP coming from Microsoft publisher

Hey gang,
My wife has a small business. She now has two MPB. She runs one with Parallels and windows XP because she is in love with Microsoft publisher for making newsletters and similar. I am going to buy her a new MBP and want to go to Yosemite and get her off Windows. We have Pages, Numbers, Excel, Powerpoint, keynote etc. What software would you recommend that she can use and make the easy transition of Publisher to whatever? Can .pub files be opened in other applications? Any advice would be great.
Thanks,
Michael

Here's a link to an article describing some of the options for converting Publisher files:
http://desktoppub.about.com/cs/publisher/f/share_pubfiles.htm
If she is actually making do with Publisher, Pages might be sufficient, but there are plenty of options: Swift Publisher, Scribus, Printworks, eventually Affinity Publisher (not yet available for the Mac OS but in the works).

Bought and installing Logic X hope to use all my Pro Tools Stuff with Logic X to reduce the learning curve for my Wife who is not very computer savy All her music is 96K and degitized with Pro Tools from analoge 16track tape.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Apple offered a refund for users who purchased Logic Pro 9 30 days or less before the Logic Pro X launch, but they don't do it anymore, so if you want to upgrade to Logic Pro X, you have to purchase it in the Mac App Store
Part of this is incorrect...
Some App Store employee's "accidentally" (but in good faith) issued refunds to a few users who had purchased Logic 9 within 30 days prior to the mid-July release of Logic-X. Word quickly came down from Apple HQ that this was against App Store policy and the practice was immediately stopped.
To the original poster.. you never stood a chance, even if they were issuing refunds you didn't fall within the 30 day period. There were many who purchased Logic 9 a few days before the LX release who did not get a refund.

• Suggestions for library management in Aperture, coming from iPhoto

A little background....
I have been an iPhoto user for a number of years, using a Sony W1. Recently, I have upgraded to a new Canon Powershot G7, and with this almost DSLR-like camera, am finding that I am taking WAY more pictures, and getting better pictures too! The faster shutter speeds, and the excellent continuous modes on the G7 (and a 2 gig memory card) are meaning that even shooting my 13 month oldd son, I have way more images to look through.
My current workflow was simply import into iPhoto, basic edits w/ iPhoto, and use PSE 4 for more significant edits. I am trying the 30-day demo of Aperture, and so far, even though the UI is immense and somewhat intimdating, I am beginnng to learn the basics with various web resources, and Apple's Quicktime tutorials, and I like the robustness of the program as well.
My question(s) are as follows. I did the iPhoto import into Aperture, but now am not "thrilled" with my existing library structure in APerture, from this massive import.. Having the separate iPhoto Library folder in Aperture, and all the albums/rolls, just doesn't seem very well manageable. I ended up cancelling/deleting Previews, because of how long it was taking (10gig iPhoto import) I feel I just use "Projects" more, and then selectively set Previews for projects, and export to iPhoto or elsewhere. I guess I am asking for some advise from someone coming from iPhoto albums, who has not necessary used lots of metadata within iPhoto, rather just static albums. I pretty sure I want to use Aperture Library managed mode (not referenced) and am willing to export out of Aperture to iPhoto for the wife to use.
I am willing to redo the import selectively if I had some suggestions from you Aperture experts . Currently, I have been organizing pictures of my kid(s) by month (at least in his 1st year), and creating separate albums (in iPhoto) for special occasions. Maybe with the organization powers of Aperture, there is a better way..
Open to any and all suggestions...thanks for listening.

• Coming from a Curve - Deleting email

Hello,
Is there an option to be able to choose if you want to delete an email from the handheld or both the handheld and the server? This was a nice feature on my Curve so I can delete any of the few spam that gets by the filters before I download and delete any work emails off the handheld only to keep it clean.
Thanks!

I went from a BlackBerry Curve 8530 to a Droid Pro because I wanted a similar keyboard. Although the keyboard is not bad on the Droid Pro, the device itself leaves a few things to be desired. I tried 2 different Droid Pro's from Verizon and both reboot at random, and they had scratchy audio which would clearly be an issue for you. So I switched to a Droid 2 Global and I'm very happy. The landscape keyboard takes some getting used to, but as a BlackBerry user I'm really very happy with it. Droid 2 Global is also faster than the Droid Pro, has a much bigger and higher resolution display, supports GSM overseas, and has better build quality in my opinion. I'd say the only downside of the Droid 2 Global is the added bulk.
I feel like your wife, I refuse to depend on screen-only keyboards, especially coming from BlackBerry.
