Learning from the beginning, where to start?, Any Tips?

Good morning all, I am an Information Analyst for a large organisation, and we are currently in the process of moving our reporting from MS Access based to SQL and BI based reporting. Using SQL Management Studio 2008 R2. Obviously this is a tough cookie
to learn and something which will take time. I would like however to get stuck in and wondered if anyone has any ideas of where best to start. What works, what doesn't etc. Any advice would be welcome.
2 books I have to read is SQL Server 2008 Reporting Services & Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services for Dummies, purely as this is the software us Analysts have had installed we have no other choice.
Its Ok learning how to use a reporting software but my aim would be to learn the language of SQL, any advice is more than appriciated and welcome.

If you want something to get you spun up on the basics really quickly, I recommend Sams Teach Yourself Microsoft SQL Server T-SQL in 10 Minutes.
The author uses the depreciated ANSI 89 syntax throughout the book (my only real complaint) but aside from that, it's a very good fast into to SQL and will have you writing SQL very quickly.
That, until recently, was always my go to recommendation for "how to get started" books... That is until I found Microsoft SQL Server 2012 T-SQL
Fundamentals. Hands down, the best general purpose T-SQL books I've seen, written by a true master (Itzik Ben-Gan). It covers the basics and goes well beyond... The only reason I didn't recommend it first is the fact that you said you were going 2008R2...
Not being able to follow the book (in it's entirety) may be frustrating.

I have used firefox for 3 or 4 years, today it would not open. I had to reinstall and start over from the beginning. I lost a lot of bookmarks and preferences.

Adobe installed an update, which restarted my desktop pc. After restarting I was unable to open Firefox browser. So, I clicked on Firefox, and then run as... first I tried running as... and chose my name. Firefox browser still would not open. Then I chose administrator which opened Firefox browser, but, as a new Firefox installation. It did contain add-ons, but not book marks, history, downloads or preferences. Now i have started over from the beginning. Is there any way I can restore lost bookmarks and preferences? Do you think system restore would help?

Try #5.
Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
    •    Launch Settings app
    •    Tap on Wi-Fi
    •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
    •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

The Kindle app is so you do not have to use a Kindle. Yes, he can have a Kindle account and not own an actual Kindle hardware device.

There is no built-in setting for redirecting a bookmark to a new tab.
Is it possible that the computer which does that has an add-on such as the Tab Mix Plus extension installed? TMP has a setting for that (Events > Tab Opening).

Why do videos always start over from the beginning? A bug??

I just did the update and still have the same issue where videos always start from the beginning, when I WANT them to start where they left off. I went into Settings>Video>Start Playing and selected "Where Left Off", but that didn't help. Is this a bug?? I want it to act as it did on my 3G where I can exit the middle of a video and it will start from that point next time I enter the video... Any ideas???

I do not know if your file can be recovered. But I may be able help you to recreate it with ease. If you will settle for a composite where all image are re-sized for a particular tile size and virtually cropped to its aspect ratio. How do I restart iOS download after internet crashes without having to start from the beginning.

My internet crashes and stops downloading the iOS restore software for my phone. When I try to restart the download, it starts from the beginning. How can I get it to cary on from where it left off? Why doesn't it do this automatically!?

If you've already unsuccessfully tried to resume the download then the previously partial download may no longer be present on you computer.<br />
What you can do in such a case is:
* Move the old .part partial download and the 0 byte final file without the .part to another location.<br />
* Start a new download and pause it, don't close Firefox.<br />
* Copy the two files (.part and 0 byte final) that you moved above back to the download location to replace the new files that were created.<br />
* Resume the download in Firefox.

While listening to songs on my iPod Classic 120gb, some songs will start to play, after 2-3 seconds, stop and start again from the beginning and play through the entire song no problems. On iTunes the songs still plays fine no stopping or starting. All songs are random artists and songs.
Help! its really frustrating!

[Bug] Playing stream audio from the editor almost always starts from beginning.

Whenever I am creating a movie clip with an audio layer set to "stream" I usually click certain points of the movie and hit enter to see and hear it. In Flash CC however, it seems about 95% of the time no matter what frame I am on when I hit enter the audio starts from the beginning and is not in sync. There have been a few cases in which the audio started at right frame but I haven't yet been able to isolate the process. Audio works great in the exported SWF, this issue is just just with the editor.

This bug still hasn't been fixed. I don't recommend Flash for any animator; the issue makes syncing to music and vocals extremely frustrating. This bug has been around for months without solution.
Running as administrator does not solve the problem.
You will have the audio bug even if you do not have a Beats Audio Soundcard.
The longer and more complicated your project, the more frequently the bug happens. When it first begins (around 15-30 seconds worth of frames and about 7 layers) you can make the audio stream as it should by clicking your audio track, setting it to "stop," saving your project, and setting the audio to "stream" again.
However, when you have about 60 seconds on your timeline, the bug happens a lot more, and you have to actually close the project to get the sound to work again if you do not have the patience to wait for it to fix itself. The wait ranges from 30 seconds to several minutes to never fixed until you close. It's highly unpredicatable. Sometimes it is not enough to close the project, in which case you must quit Flash and start it up again.
It happens with both mp3 and wav sounds.
After a month of this bug, I still can't pinpoint what causes it. It's completely random.
This post suggests it has something to do with scrubbing the timeline. I haven't been able to replicate the bug by doing this. It happens whether or not you use the slider or just click on frames to navigate.
My system specs:
Windows 7 Home Premium (Service Pack 1)
64-bit operating system
Processor: Intel i5-4670K CPU @3.40 GHz
RAM: 8 GB
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 Graphics Card
Audio is also NVIDIA High Definition Audio
The bug happens even if I plug in headphones to a regular audio port not on the graphics card.
Other audio types I have are the Intel Display Audio and Realtek High Definition Audio. I've tried messing with audio settings to no avail.

How to start iPhoto mavericks from a particular photo (not from the beginning)

In my previous versions of iphoto I could start the slideshow from any photo, after highlighting it first. Now, I can start it only from the beginning and only if I did not highlight any photo in the albom. If I highlight a photo and then click on ``slideshow'', it will show me this particular photo but will not play after that (even if use settings). Can I do anything about it?
My alboms are long, so to start them each time from the beginning is very inconvenient.

There's a bug with iPhoto 9.5.1 and Mavericks in that slidshows from albums only play correctly, i.e. from the first slide, with the photos sorted by date, keyword, rating or title. When sorted manually the slideshow can start5 from any seemingly random photo.

There is nothing wrong with the OS update.
Delete ALL your email accounts.
Restart Playbook
Put the accounts back and ensure they are all set with PUSH ON. Manual (push off) will burn battery.
Similarly delete your wifi connections and add back when required.
Turn off wifi is not connected to wifi.
Any "hunting for connection" in email or wifi will burn up battery.

AudioInputStream doesn't actually have anything in it...it's actually just a wrapper. Whenever you call read on it, it just reads whatever it's wrapping around, and returns the result. This is why it can contain both live data being recorded or file data or a network stream or...
In this case, it is reading from a BinaryFile. Everytime you call read, it increments the file position... and it doesn't reset the file position when you call AudioSystem.write...
