Learning Logic Pro 9 - Anyone Read this Book?
Hey everyone:
Wanting to get into learning Logic Pro 9. I've been looking at this book: Logic Pro 9 by Mark Cousins and Russ Hepworth.
Anyone read it or use it? I've looked through it and read some of it from the preview on Amazon. It looks good and everthing, but I'm curious about how much the packages differ between Logic Studio and Logic Express. I just bought Logic Pro from the App Store.
I know that there are a million YouTube videos and stuff out there, but I kinda like having a structured flow to work through. If I just try to pick up bits and pieces here and there, I'll probably never really get where I need to be.
I have a small blues/rock band and do some live recording and some basement recording. Not a lot of MIDI and stuff initially, but I may want to program some drums and stuff, maybe add some keyboard loops.
Think this would be a good fit? Other good spots to learn from?
Thanks!
+1 on KCstudio's suggestion along with the 'first' book in the series...
Apple Pro Training Series: Logic Pro 9 and Logic Express
by David Nahami
Which is, in my opinion, the best book for learning the basics (and more) of Logic Pro....
Both Books can be found on Amazon at good prices these days....

I am wondering if the standard entry level iMac is good enough to learn Logic Pro. From what I have researched the top of the line 2012 Mac mini is more power full than the entry level 2013 iMac and I would end up paying more for the iMac. But I am also thinking about how the new 2013 iMac has the new haswell processor which is supposedly better than the ivy bridge on the 2012 Mac mini (I do not really know about any of this I am just going off of what I have been researching) so the 2012 Mac mini may be more powerful than the 2013 entry level iMac technically but maybe the iMac will run more efficiently because from what I hear it does not get as hot and uses less power or something. Also, should I wait for the Mac mini to come out with a refresh with the has well processor or will I be fine with the current 2012 Mac mini with the ivy bridge processor. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. P.S. Does anyone know exactly just how much better if at all the haswell is than the ivy bridge because if it is not that big of an improvement I would just get the current top of the line 2012 Mac mini, as I really would like to get started on learning Logic Pro.
The latest top of the line Mac Mini is much more powerful than the latest bottom of the line iMac..
It is much easier to add your own memory to a Mac Mini than an iMac... and much cheaper!
More memory = better performance
Mac Mini 2.6GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 + 4GB RAM = $799
Add 16 GB RAM from Amazon for $160
Total = $959 -

PS. there was error in posting this text ("invalid HTML found" hopefully this is correct)
Solved!
Go to Solution.Yep, there was an error doing the calendar sync...There are a host of reasons:
incompatible fields
prior versions of syncing software still on computer
cache not cleared
calendar data in the wrong folder
too many calendars in iCal and on device....
the list goes on

Can anyone read this Apple crash report?
Hi everyone!
My iMac's been absolutely fine since I bought it. The Lion upgrade was smooth. I upgraded on the first day Lion became available.
In the past week, I keep getting every other day a progressive gray screen and a warning that the computer needs to restart. I've no idea what's causing the crash... it happens when I have the standard suite of apps running (Mail, iTunes, Safari, etc) so no exotic application.
Here's a crash report. Can anyone read this and pin point the problem?
Thanks!

Can logic pro 9 read logic pro X projects?
I have Logic pro X on my macbook at home, but I have to work with projects that can be also modified and edited in Logic Pro 9 (at the studios in the University), is it possible to save projects in Logic X to be compatible to Logic 9?
Thanks for the helpNo
Logic Pro X can import and convert Logic Pro 9 projects.. but not the other way around.
You can however, export tracks from Logic Pro X, as audio 'stems' and then load those in to Logic Pro 9. -

any other solution ? -
Failure to Capture - Is anyone reading this?
Captivate sometimes fails to capture screens even when there
is mouse activity, scrolls, and menu selection.
It captures the mouse movement, but not the screens. It then
assigns the mouse movement to the wrong slide.
It's impossible to reassign the mouse movement to a different
slide because the appropriate slide is not available. It was not
captured.
This causes a lot of trouble and work - or an entire
recapture. It is a serious flaw.
It also makes me wish that Captivate would allow me to create
new mouse movement on slides AFTER capture.
Is anyone else having the same problem?
I have not seen any responses to similar topics. Is anyone
reading this?Last things first, gbj. Yes, someone is reading. Sometimes a
solution is not offered because one isn't known, or the question
may not be clear, or whatever. Be patient with the volunteers,
please ... they help here in addition to their regular jobs, and
without pay of any kind. That said ...
Your question doesn't include the type of application you are
trying to record. Is it a web-based application (yes, there is a
difference - read on)? If so, the "changed" background following a
click may not have rendered (downloaded) when the screen-capture
took place. This can be real obvious if you are capturing a
web-based background on a slow connection.
If this is the case, try going more slowly from
click-to-click during recording, and keep an eye on the Captivate
icon on the system-tray to be sure a background capture really is
being made when expected ... it will flash red each time a screen
shot is taken, when operating properly.
Also, try supplementing the automatic capture with manual
background captures (the "PrtScr" key, by default).
Let us know if this helps. If not, please share more specific
steps we can take to duplicate what you are seeing - that might
help us to help you. Have a great day! -
I want to get an iMac to learn Logic Pro primarily and gaming secondly
I am new to all this (computers, Logic Pro and video games) but I want to learn. Is an iMac a good computer to run Logic Pro (I am also considering Mac mini)? I am also wondering about the nvidia geforce gtx 780m with 4 gb dedicated ram. How many years down the road will this graphics card be good for. From what I hear pc gamers have to periodically be upgrading things like graphics cards on their computers to be able to play newer games in the future, but I don't have that option with say this graphics card on the 27 inch imac, so I guess my question is, for how long will this nvidia geforce gtx 780m with 4 gb dedicated ram be good for before it becomes obsolete, 3 years, 5 years ,maybe more or less I do not know. I was thinking about getting a Mac mini for the Logic Pro and getting a play station 4 for gaming or just getting thr iMac and use it for both Logic Pro and gaming and forget about the play station 4. I need some real help over here, so if anyone could please help me out I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you. P.S. I have also heard that the Mac mini is a good option for Logic Pro being that it has the integrated graphics card and Logic Pro is not a really graphic intensive app, so maybe I would be straight going the Mac mini and play station 4 route.
You are better off getting a dedicated gaming box for gaming than using a Mac for heavy gaming.
Unless you go with a top of the line iMac with just about all of the optional components, Macs do not make great heavy gaming machines. Plus, a gaming box is sooo much cheaper than a Mac for gaming.
For using Logic, I would just go for the 21 inch screen iMac and get it with the optional full 16 GBs of RAM and optional i7 CPU and, if you can afford all of the options, get this iMac with the optional Fusion drive, too!
The combination SSD and hard drive in the fusion drive will help make up for the slower 5400 RPM drives that they are putting into only the 21 inch screen models.
With this configuration, this iMac would last you, at least, 5 years. -
Learning Logic Pro 9 - Exploring Logic Pro (Tutorial/Manual)
Logic Pro 9 - Exploring Logic Pro (Tutorial/Manual)
I worked the tutorial through to page 73. While I was working I realized that "Chuck Vox Alt " is the second take in the printed book but in "Exploring Logic Pro Demo Project" ("The Numbers Game") on the screen it is take one (so it is above and not below take 2). And "Chuck Vox TNG" (take 2) is named "Chuck Vox 2" (take 1) in the book! Because of this I can't do the second section of page 73 ("Edit the comp")!
I'm stuck here. Please help me!
Thank you! Thanks for your answer. Sorry I'm still a beginner with Logic.
I've not spent much time yet - just read the tutorial until p. 73. This is how it looks:
I can't test it out on another sound recording because I don't have another one yet.
How can I create or import one? Thanks again! -

hi ,
i am MCA final year student i wana start learning j2ee can anyone suggest any site or book for that.
i know JSP n wana learn the remaining technologies in j2ee.
what all does come under j2ee.plzz help.Hi Vikas,
This sun site contains all the information u need to get started in becoming the best J2EE programmer.
just browse under technologies...> J2EE (Enterprise Edition) there u'll see a lot of tutorials covering the J2EE platform..such as Web Services, portals...jsp, servlets, xml, xsl, JAPX, javabeans..e.t.c too many to mention.
Also there are other sites that can put u on the run try IBM..it has good resources for J2EE programmers www.ibm.com/developerworks or http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/ .
or simply open up google and type "Learning J2EE" or "Understanding J2EE" and what u'll get will stun you.
cheers. -

Louis Vuitton sleeve for MacBook Pro - Anyone buy this?
Would you buy this for your MacBook Pro?
http://www.louisvuitton.com/web/flash/index.jsp?direct1=cate&direct2=homme&direc t3=cat10013&direct4=cat1410089&direct5=cat1410094&direct6=prod1290013&langue=en_ US&buy=1
For the price ($715 US), you would think that it would fly should you drop it!
The reason that I ask is that I have a very rich client (expensive tastes) who recently converted to Mac - so I am looking for a good gift for him.
Something is telling me to go Booq or Tumi instead???
Dare I ask if anyone is using it, and if it is worth the heavy fee?Great post!
I have noted some thoughts to consider.
A) It is too big for a 15-inch MacBook Pro and too small for a 17-inch MacBook Pro. I would rather go for a Booq Vyper M3 sleeve, which has been custom designed for the MacBook Pro. The Booq sleeve has been designed to evenly distribute any weight or pressure on the notebook. I do not see anything similar on the LV. The Booq sleeve is nice a black. The LV sleeve looks like it belongs with a fruitcake!
B) Canvas? What is that? The Booq sleeve uses 1682D cross-weave ballistic nylon, which is far more durable than LV canvas.
C) Just because it is more expensive does not mean that it is better. Is a $3,000 Dell notebook better than a $3,000 Mac?
D) Many companies have designed exceptional, durable products specifically for Apple products. Personally, I love Booq sleeves, but Incase offers solid ones too. You can also check out the MacTruck, which is another exceptional product. http://www.RadTech.us
Save your money. Buy a Booq or an Incase sleeve, and use the balance for a Mac Mini!
I hope that this helps! -
Is anybody running Logic Pro on a Mac Book Pro?
I am considering buying a Mac Book Pro and wanted to know if Logic runs fine on it. I probably will add a couple of libraries such as the EW Gold Symph Library which can be quit large. If I could get some info on that, I'd appreciate it. I know the Mac book Pro memory is extendable to 4 GB Ram, but, is it enough for the Logic Studio?
ThanksLatest project on my MBP had 17 tracks (9 SW instrument tracks and 8 audio tracks) each with at least two plugs. No problems....
Remember that if you get the dreaded resource warning messages you can always "Freeze" your SW instrument tracks to print the effects to audio files that are automatically stored in your project folder (so yes, it does suck up more HD space but really offloads the CPU).
Another tip is to turn Airport off when you are using LP8 as some people (raises hand) find they can get more tracks with Airport off.
And as already mentioned....you can get even more tracks if you have your projects and/or samples on a 7200 external drive.
Go for it....it works great!!! -
QT movie suddenly becomes jittery in logic pro! Is this a bug? Please Help
OK, this is very odd behavior, I must have changed some song setting here.
My Quick time movie jumps frames and doesn't play smoothly on one song but if i open it in another session it plays fine.
I first thought it was a CPU or hardrive problem but after removing all the audio and plugins from the problematic session the QT movie still behaves in the same odd way.
What did I change that its behaving this way?
Thanks,

I have had repeated problems with Quicktimes in Logic. A common occurance is opening a movie to work with and to start with it works fine. The problem occurs with all sorts of movie data rates, codecs and sizes.
It has become such a problem that I've had to resort by running the video from a second computer using midi to synchronise.

i am pretty sure i know what this problem is....it is a RAM issue. what is happening is that as you run out of RAM, the OS 'pages out' memory to the virtual memory on your system drive. if your drive is full or a lot of memory is being used as virtual memory. this is why you are getting good performance at first, it starts falling over as your system drive is being driven hard, and rebooting helps refreshing the process.
the solution would be to:
• ensure you have plenty of RAM
• ensure that you have at least (as bare minimum) over 30% of your system drive free (actually the minimum should be around 50%)
• you have virtual memory switched on for samples inside logic
• you only run logic if it is using a lot of memory for stuff.
• reduce your track count if you don't need it.
• reduce your undo history in logic. it absolutely chews up RAM.
