Learning Oracle BI Apps.

Hi,
At present am working on OBIEE 10.1.3.4.1 and interested learning Oracle BI Apps. Please give your valuable suggestions and links like how and where to start.
Thanks,
Anitha.B

BI Apps is more about the functional side and less at development.
As part of development you can refer this link
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E20490_01/bia.7963/e19039/toc.htm
to configure any of the module we need functional guy or else source system developer at least with that specific module expertise..
All the best, if helps pls mark

  • Lost in Oracle BI Apps

My objective is to install and learn Oracle BI Apps. I have done the installation part. I am not sure how to proceed now. How do I connect to a data source, do a test run and see the Oracle BI Reports. Kindly give me some insight into how I can view Oracle BI Reports with data.
Is there a sample data set that I can use for data loading.
    Edited by: user10231156 on Sep 22, 2008 9:25 PM

    Hi,
First of all congrats on installation of OBI Apps.
Now, to check the configuration and working select the UNIVERSAL container in DAC Client and then run any execution plan, if your executiion plan runs successfully it means your installation and configuration is perfect.
There are some sample flat files through which Universal adaptor will load the data into the DAC Warehouse tables.
However you are not able to view the data in reports and dashboards because in sample flat files there are very less amount of data whihc will not populate reports and dashboards, so for that you have to install any ERP and configure the same with DAC then only you can view the data in pre-built dashboards and reports.
If any help required please feel free to ask.

  • Installing and Learning Oracle 11i

I would like to install and learn Oracle on a personal basis. I have a PC with Windows 2000 Professional. Can Oracle 11i be installed on that? Or does it require Windows server?
Does Oracle DB, in order to run Oracle Apps also come with e-business suite, when you download from edelivery.oracle.com?
I am planning to install it on an external hard drive (My PC's internal hard drive is only 20GB). My PC is only having 256MB RAM and would be connecting to the external hard drive via a USB port (not USB2.0). Does anyone know, if I can run Oracle Apps on this configuration in a single user mode, with reasonable performance?
I am not an Apps DBA. Is it easy to install Oracle Apps on a PC?
    Thanks
    Mukesh

    heres the check list...
    - U can isntall it on Win2K pro.
    - U cannot make it work with 256 MB RAM.. tooo less.. I have 1.5 GB with ok performance.
    - U can actually install the stuff on the external HDD as long as it has a drive letter assigned to it.
    - 60 GB external HDD is just bare min. to install and run Apps 11i. consider anything like 80 GB+. I prrefer atleast 2-3 HDD to span App Server, DB server etc.
    - USB 1.1/1.0 is tooo slow to give any kind of performance.
    Consider following requirements:
    1. PC with atleast 1 GHz Processor
    2. 1 GB RAM at least. ( I tried with 512 initially but had all sort of problems).
    3. U can install it on any of Win2K, Win XP and I can show how to do it. Currently have it on XP Pro SP2.
    4. Min 80 GB HDD if u plan to install Vision Demo Database or otherwise u wont understand a thing.
    5. atleast 1-2 days dedicated to installation with Internet connection.
    6. VC++ and MKS toolkit are other requirements, so have them before u attempt to install.
7.... most important... lost of "GUD LUCK" wishes.
    gud luck.

  • Want to learn oracle hrms/payroll

    hi there,
i want to learn oracle apps hrms modules.
please give me some tips guide lines etc
i have strong background of oracle 8i and 10g. now i want to switch to oracle apps

Hi, i think the best approach is the documentation library for the R12 of 11i form the OTN.
I think these are the documents are what you probably already have, the use of the e-TRM's is always helpful if you doing any development / extension / technical work with applications. Such as data migration routines, custom reporting or user defined function etc for payroll.
If you look at the software downloads section, at the botton of the page that lists all oracle downloads there is an option to download apps via the e-delivery method :-

  • Starting Learning Oracle Form Developer

    Hi Experts,
i m oracle dba. i wan to start learning Oracle Form Developer 10g . please any one can share documentation that can help me out to start this domain.
    regards,

Is there a particular reason you are starting with an old version and not the latest (11.1.2.0)? Version 10.1.2 will begin its end of life cycle at the end of this year. Meaning, Error Correction Support will end. Learning with the newest version will give you the advantage of working with the latest features and a more stable version.
At any rate.... how easy it will be to learn will all depend on your current skill set and your prior experience with other development tools. I would suggest you first get a basic understand of how Forms works before you start to build an application. Building an application in Forms is mostly easy because the more common features are wizard driven. However, understand what to do once you create an app might take a little more thought and an understanding of basic web principles.
The version 10 documentation (mostly related to deployment) can be found here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/forms/documentation/techlisting10gr2-093389.html
Here you will find many white papers which include everything from complex concepts to basic product overviews.
You can access similar content for all of the recent versions from the top page located here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/forms/overview/index.html
The Forms Builder help is a good place for design time information.

  • Any programming language is required to learn oracle

    Hi,
Could you pls advice me that do we learn any programming languange before learning oracle and work on that? with out any programming cannot we learn oracle?? bcz i am very intereste to learn oracle but i dont know any programming language. pls advice

First of all, you might want to consider that Oracle is the world's largest 'enterprise software' company, with many many many products. Therefore it would be useful to define the context - which products are you thinking about when you ask such a question.
Second, as others have pointed out, you will get a better answer when asking in an 'in-context' forum.
For example, if you are talking about databases, you might ask in the Database forum and find out that the primary languages are SQL, PL/SQL and Java (in that order) and secondary languages can include PERL, PHP, HTTP, and so on. However, if you are asking about Oracle Portal in the App Server forums, you would finf d out you could be quite happy with HTTP and Javascript. JDeveloper, as a Java IDE discussed in the development tools forum, encourages you to know Java but also be comfortable with JSP. SOA, in the SOA forum, encourages understanding of BPEL (yes, it is a language) as well as XML and Web Services.
You could, however, use this forum - or the Oracle Wiki - to help you understand what area you are interested in so you could ask in the right forums. <g>

your problem is not very unusual... I also faced the similar situation cpl of times when Oracle was not able to continue the installation coz the Immediate Shutdown was failed. Actually During the installation, Oracle mounts/opens the database and shuts it down many times and few times, Oracle is unable to shutdown cleanly as some process is hanging or not responding.
Piece of advise is that always use staging area to install Apps as it takes long time on Win2K (anything between 4-12 hrs) to install it and CDROM Access is lot slower than HDD. Also, it will prompt u every time to insert tbe CD. All this hassle can be bypassed by using the staging area. Read the Installation help document on how to create it.
For failure reasons, look in ur installation log file which is created in the default Temp folder usually C:\documents and settings\USERNAME\local settings\temp for WinXP or C:\winnt\documents and settings\USERNAME\local settings\temp for Win2K.
post or email me at [email protected] or [email protected] for further help/details.

  • Integration with Oracle Fusion Apps SaaS

    Hi,
I have the following integration requirement in my on-premise SOA/ADF application
    1) Get Service Contract details from Oracle Fusion apps cloud instance ( Enterprise Contracts) given a contract number. The details include i) Name ii) Owner iii)Type iv) Business Unit v) Start Date vi) End Date viii) Party details etc..
    2) Create/Get Invoice in Fusion apps cloud instance ( Oracle Financials Cloud ?) from my application.
    3) Create an Order into the the Oracle Fusion apps Order management cloud from my application.
For the same, I started looking into the OER (https://fusionappsoer.oracle.com/) provided by oracle to find Assets/Services that help us integrate with the SaaS.
However, I could not find a right service for my above requirements. Here are my findings ( right or wrong) :
    =======================================
    a) For Order Creation ( requirement (2) above):
-> For Creating an Order, I see a service called Sales Order Service (oracle.apps.crmCommon.orders.salesOrdersService.SalesOrderService) but this service only CRUD's Sales Order Header where as I am looking for a service that needs.
-> I found another service ( Composite service) ,Get Orchestration Order Service (11.1.7.0.0), Operation: GetOrderDetails , that may get me order details but doesnt give me a way to create an order as I didn't find any operation for Create/Generate.
-> Another Asset =>File Based Data Import: Purchase Orders Import (11.1.9.0.0) that Imports purchase orders from external systems into Oracle Fusion Purchasing.
But not sure how to use it. The documentation is duanting here.
    b) For Getting contract details
-> While looking for a service that would would cater my "get contract details" need, I could find only Contract Type , Contract Business unit services but no service ( ADF or composite) that would give me all the contract details.
    c) For Invoice creation / get - I found these but not sure which one to pick.
-> Request Invoice Orchestration Task for Fusion Systems Service (11.1.8.0.0) Description:Provides the ability to communicate with the Oracle Fusion Invoicing application to perform create operations.Type: Composite Service. Process Provides the ability for Oracle Fusion Receivables to perform create operations.
    -> Product Family: Financials
ADF Service: Receivables Invoice Service (11.1.9.0.0)
    Operations: createSimpleInvoice, invoiceHeaderInformation,createInterfaceLine,processInterfaceLine
    Service Path: https://<fin_server:PortNumber>/finArTrxnsInvoices/InvoiceService?WSDL
    Abstract WSDL URL: rep://R9_FUSIONAPPS_HOSTEDREP/oracle/apps/financials/receivables/transactions/invoices/invoiceService/InvoiceService.wsdl
-> ADF Service: Receivables Invoice (11.1.9.0.0) Service Path: http://<fin_server:PortNumber>/finArTrxnsAutoInvoices/AutoInvoicesBCService?WSDL
    Abstract WSDL URL: rep://R9_FUSIONAPPS_HOSTEDREP/oracle/apps/financials/receivables/transactions/autoInvoices/autoInvoicesService/v1/AutoInvoicesBCService.wsdl
    ======================================
Can someone help me here in helping me find a right service / way to fullfill my above requirements?
    Thanks,
    Sridhar.

    Hey Reo,
We need to do few configuration steps to integrate both products
you can refer to the metalink2 doc id : 552735.1
    https://metalink2.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/f?p=130:14:3427836754632619337::::p14_database_id,p14_docid,p14_show_header,p14_show_help,p14_black_frame,p14_font:NOT,552735.1,1,1,1,helvetica
Remember, if u integrate EBS & OBIEE, you cannot directly login to BI. Instead, you always need to navigate from EBS only..

  • How fast is it possible to learn Oracle if I'm proficient in mySQL?

    Hi ladies and gents,
I am planning on creating an estate agency website. I have about 3 months to do that. I did computer science in uni, so i know java, c++, SQL, x/html, html, a bit of javascript, css. I bought a PHP and Oracle book.
My question is, considering the fact that I have never created a website with a fully functional database on, how long does it normally take for experience people to create such a site?
If I am a fast learner would I be able to do it in 3 months? I am really scared that I am taking on a challenge that I will not be able to handle. I will be fully committed and obviously will be spending day and night on designing and coding the site.
Finally the most important question I want people to answer is this, if I am already proficient in SQL, will learning Oracle take much time? Can I not do the site with SQL instead of Oracle at the moment?
Massive "Thanks" to any who answers my questions. I am mainly interested in your views so any reply will be welcome.

I've no idea on the project, having never done anything like that myself, but a working knowledge of SQL, whilst handy, isn't the be all and end all of working with a database.
Firstly, you've got to get the design of the database right - normalised tables, primary keys, foreign keys, etc. Getting that right makes the rest of your job much easier!
Secondly, a lot depends on the database you're working with. You'd take a different approach SQL / code wise when using Access than you would when using Oracle. So, you'd have to get familiar with the capabilities of your particular database platform in order to be able to make the best use out of it. (For example, Oracle has a different method of ensuring read consistency than MS SQL Server does, and what you can do in one big SQL statement in Oracle, you would break up into smaller queries and use temporary tables to hold the data.)
Thirdly, the SQL used in each database platform is slightly different - most of it is standard, but there are bolt-ons which are not the same across the databases (eg. in the case of Oracle, how you handle DATEs is not the same as how you'd do it in SQL Server, Sybase, etc.)
If I were you, I'd stick to using something that I knew, rather than trying to learn everything in 3 months! However, if you were wanting to bolt a website onto an Oracle database, I believe APEX could well suit your needs.
