  • Learning Photoshop CS2 - Books, tutorials courses ?

    Hi everyone!
I would firstly like to apologise if this topic has been covered in depth but i am desperately looking for the right book/s as a Christmas present to ensure that my girlfriend learns Photoshop CS2 with ease. I have some experience in Photoshop and have been doing an IT degree here in New Zealand for the past 4 years but Im not a designer so i really need your guys help!
I also appreciate that there are so many books out there but have found that some dont go into enough depth or lack the variation in examples to significantly cover what photoshop has to offer. I was initially thinking that a couple of books might be necessary to take her from beginner to advanced.
Background - She has just finished a degree in Fashion design & Art with straight As. She has always excelled in arts and photography but has lately found her self-doing graphics based contract work for fashion designers. This has all been in Corel draw 11 and Corel photo paint 11. She has been using Corel products for about 6 years now but by no means considers herself an expert.
She now realises that shes needs a raster based program such as Photoshop that extends the functionality of Corel photopaint. She has also decided on going back to school to specialise in computer-aided design so she needs to learn Photoshop fast.
I think she is the person that appreciates step by step instructions by example but would also benefit from software based tutorials.
I was wondering if you good people would be able to suggest any text books that would cater to her needs.
I was also wondering if the full 700 dollars + version needs to be purchased as she is charging for the work that she does? I noticed that there were several licenses within the website, which one is appropriate. She is not studying at the moment but will be start again in a few months. Are their licenses that cover students that are selling their work?
Am I making the right assumption that she needs CS2? Is it that widely supported? Would it be better for her to by another version of Photoshop?
I would also like to thank you guys for taking the time to read this post and greatly appreciate any response.
    Paul

CS 2 is a must if she is working with high fashion photography.
like images from A canon Eos 1DS mark II
most digital photographers now adays use RAW obsessivly when they are unsure about the exposure by about a tenth of a stop in the highlights or maybe if they are dealing with more than one type of lighting and are worryed about white balance.
phase one capture one is a good progam to know if she is working with photographers, actualy the more you know about the photographers capture process the easyer it will be to learn about exactly what progam is best for you. If your not working with raw at all that CS 1 will do nicely

  • Where are the video tutorials I saw generated from the PhotoShop CS.5 Installation Disc?

Where are the video tutorials I saw generated from the PhotoShop CS.5 Installation Disc? How to work on a face, New to CS5, How to strip in a background? etc. Very helpful. Want to get started here.

Thank you Curt Y. You're right. They're there. The tutorials are so smart. Don't know why they didn't download. With video tutorials "Live time" experts fumble themselves giving a perfect means for the user to absorb the "logic" of how the PhotoShop function thinks. There's no other way. Only a robot can, wants to, is motivated by boring line by line written description.  I rather eat gravel than try and follow "line by line."  line-by-line = ZZZZZZZZZZZZ.  Have a great holiday season, whereever you are, whatever you celebrate. • Great Garageband video tutorials: MacForMusicians

As you already know there's an endless choice of sites to visit to learn more about creating Garageband projects. MacForMusicians focuses on helping you get the most out of Garageband via clear and simple video tutorials. I signed up for the free basic tutorials and was so impressed I extended my membership to Advanced.
What sets MacForMusicians apart from other sources of information is that the presenter, Quentin Bradley, is an accomplished musician and obviously a big fan of Garageband. He has mastered video presenting to deliver running screenshot commentary as he walks you through various aspects of creating Garageband projects, its various tools and how to use them.
Once you've created even the most basic Garageband project and got a general overview visit macformusicians.com and checkout one of the Garageband Tutorial videos. I think you'll soon agree that this site is a pretty good way to learn. The video tutorials will even play on your iPad.
I sign up to a handful of resources for Garageband, macformusicians.com is free to join without a credit card or obligation. For me the low cost of Advanced membership is insignificant with what I have learned. This is not just some kid in his bedroom on YouTube.

How do I download Photoshop CS6 video tutorials from Adobe TV for offline viewing ?

It depends on which browser you have.  If you are using Safari, post in their forum area.
If using FireFox, use one of there many (hundreds) YouTube video downloader add-ons.  My personal preference is the DownloaderHelper add-on.

Since you know the basics of Photoshop most of the books would probably not do you much good.  But you have several options.
One is video tutorials without the sound.  I have used them this way when I can not hear it well enough or person has accent.  The trick it to view in full screen and have you finger on the pause button.  Then write down the steps they are doing.  Even thought they are saying what they are doing most show the mouse clicks, but they can be quick, and you may have to play a couple of times to see what they are doing.  If you are somewhat familiar with the program you may be able to guess what they are doing to bring up the tool or step.
The other option is to go to a bookstore and page through some of the more advanced issues to see if the cover what you want.  Since you need CS5 you can look at either CS5 or CS6 instruction, and just disregard the new stuff for CS6.  Martin Evening is a well respected photoshop author that you can check out.  I have "Adobe Photoshop CS3 for Photographers" and it is quite though.  It also comes with a DVD showing some of the techniques.
    Hope this helps.

  • Photoshop CC: program error occures when working with videos

Whenever I'm trying to trim a video in Photoshop CC I'm running into this error:
"Could not complete your request because of a program error"
I can't close it by clicking "okay", so I have to close photoshop via task manager.
    - I also came across this error when I was trying to duplicate a text layer while working with a video.
    - When I was using Photoshop CS6 several months ago trimming videos worked fine.
    - I've tested if the problem appears on my laptop (Win7, i5, on board intel hd graphics) in Photoshop CC, and it does not!
    - I've deinstalled all Adobe Products (and their plugins) and ran Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner without any errors, then reinstalled Photoshop CC.
    - I restored my preferences.
    - My graphic board drivers are up to date.
    - My computer is a Windows 7 (64 bit) Home Premium, Intel Core i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40 GHz,  16 GB RAM with a NVIDIA GeForce GT 520 graphic board.
I honestly don't know what's the matter. Unfortunately I couldn't find any other thread with the same problem.
Hope you'll be able to help
    Thanks in advance!

OK.  I suspect you might have run into one of the Mavericks bugs then.  I would certainly expect your system to handle 720 without complaining.
Apparently Adobe have made Apple aware of these bugs, and have no more control over rectifying them.
Try Google with 'Photoshop cc video Mavericks'
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5826052
I am not aware of any workarounds, but I use a PC and use PremPro for video anyway, but that's not to say there isn't one.  If this thread doesn't bring you an answer, start a new one with a subject line something like:
Video Editing Problems with CC and Mavericks

  • Win7-64 Photoshop CC blank Save As dialog, then crash, when working with video / frame animations

Hi, I recently updated to CC from CS6 and am having issues when working with PSDs containing video layers, or are set up as frame animations:  When attempting to Save As, the dialog will be completely blank except for the Save and Cancel buttons.   If I press cancel, then return to Save As, CC then often crashes.
Here is the Error Event from Event Viewer:
Faulting application name: Photoshop.exe, version: 14.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x5176451b
Faulting module name: MediaCoreIF.DLL, version: 7.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x51573a21

So far I am only having these issues if I have been working with video layers and then frame animations.  Frame animations in particular seem to cause instability as I can often work with video layers all day without a problem.  Then if I import video frames to layers, or open a PSD containing a frame animation, the Save As may not necessarily work.
Sometimes closing and restarting Photoshop will allow me to save again, but then sometimes a whole system reboot is required.  It is only temporary though.
I am not running antivirus software or other apps aside from what starts at boot.

Frustrating that this thread has petered out, since I'm having the exact same issue. Did you ever find a way to improved stability?
Also of note, the issue followed me across machines. Two weeks ago I purchased a new machine, figured if that didn't solve the problem nothing would... It didn't. :\
The only similar factors are that the machines both are 64bit Windows 7 (a fresh OEM install on the new box) and have nVidia-brand graphics cards. (Again, though - not the SAME graphics card, picked up a new one with the new machine.) No drive cloning was involved: this is completely new hardware, a fresh factory install of Windows 7, different antivirus (went from AVG to Avast), and new download of Photoshop CC from CreativeCloud.
Looks like our event details are quite similar, too.

  • Security Update 2013-003 kills Photoshop CS6 with video

Since updating 10.6.8 to Security Update 2013-003, Photoshop CS6's video capabilities are hosed.  If I try to export a video to animated GIF, it pinwheels.  If I import a video in the first place, it now takes much longer to do so.  Making layers from video frames now gets stuck at the Progress bar and I'm forced to cancel it and/or force quit Photoshop.
Just a warning to those who work with video and Photoshop, Security Update 2013-003 may ruin your workflow.

If you have not already done so, you should contact Adobe Support and/or post in the Adobe Forums since it's their product for a work-a-round if any.

  • Video tutorials with Captivate 6

    Hello !
In the past, I used Flash Media Server to display FLV videos tutorials for my primary school pupils (I'm a primary school teacher). Now, I'm using Adobe Captivate to do it, and it's the firts time I'm using it. I wanted to benefit from the html5 option and make sure my videos would display on tablets for instance.
    Here is the result :
    http://www.webdesecoles.org/coursdeguitare/
I don't know why I don't have the play button, etc. On the following page, I get a player with controls for the videos :
    http://www.webdesecoles.org/coursdeguitare/multiscreen.html
I'm certainly not doing it the best way, and there are a few problems...
If i use Firefox I get this message :
"This browser does not support some of the content in the file you are trying to view. Use one of the following browsers:
    Internet Explorer 9 or later
    Safari 5.1 or later
    Google Chrome 17 or later"
Videos appear in other bowsers, but it takes a long time... Is it because I chose "Progressive download" ?
Can you tell me how I can fix these problems and make all this work better ?
    Thank you !

    Hi
The audio is from a .cpvc file, I export the audio to perform a noise removal and a few minor edits, then to  overcome the loading screen issue I have tried to create the project several ways:
I reimport the audio back into the .cpvc as voice narration and 'yes '"change the audio for the video recording" this is then exported and imported into the slide of the .cptx this presents the laoding screen issue.
I have imported the video and audio into the .cptx as individual tracks but this creates a sync issue on playback along with the loading screen issue.
I have exported the video / audio and split it into segments not exceding 2 minutes in length, using both methods above, but still get the loading screen on playback.
All the ppt slides and the audio imported into them work fine without any issues.
I am making a lot of training videos all the same composition and the video loading screen issue happens everytime I use video within the training video (they are all from a Captivate .cpvc file)
Is this just a factor of Captivate that with video files the published project will need to pause and load throughout video playback?
    thanks

I am an old PC user, converting to this sleek machine after loving my iphone. but I am really struggling to understand all the new conventions, keystrokes, and shortcuts. I can't even really understand safari- there is no "web address" window at the top, so I go to google for everything.
Are there not video tutorials somewhere on my machine? reading the articles is hard to do if I don't see the interface.
