Leased Line issues

My organisation leased line is down. Our exchange servers are mainteined locally. We have public ip. Since our leased line is down, we are handicapped of retrieving mails.
i would like to know the options of retrieving mails atleast outside organisation network. I am as well looking for data centre or disaster management solution which can take care of such situations in future.
thanks in advance.

Hi Gitala,
There are primarily two options:
1. Emails gets queued in an external server (cloud based or other Data Centre), while your organization network\server is getting fixed. Once up it delivers all the emails to your Exchange server.
While the network\server is down users don't have access to emails in transit (In or Out the org)
Cloud based Services like Microsoft Exchange Online protection, Websense Email Security, MessageLabs (Symantec). Or a simple server in alternate location running SMTP service would also queue.
2. Have cross-site resilient infrastructure in place. Email services continue without issues.
In your case, you have complete cut off from the internet to the site hosting the email services, hence to have a DR solution, rather High Availability I would say, you need to have:
a. Multiple Internet networks (Network based redundancy) in same site.
b. SiteB with internet connection with lower preference\cost (so that it’s not used in normal conditions),
c. Have a Private Link between both the sites, have DAG members in SiteB with passive copies of critical user DBs.
So in short you can't achieve this without redundancy at each level.

• Sent my PB in for horizontal line issue repair.......but.........

Just got back from the apple store and showed a genius my display and to my surprise he said he could see the issue at the upper half of the of the screen. I tried to show him the crankycat image but he said there was no need.
I then told hime that the part needed to be used for replacement according to other sufferers is the 646-0324 DSPL, 15.2, WXGA++,SAMSUNG,Q16C part but he said apple don't use that part number here (i live in london). i then ask if the display will be replaced anyway....he says yes.
When i get the repair sheet, i dont see anything mentioning display replacement, all i see is a "Flat Rate Repair Charge, PowerBook G4 15"-£170" and Labor Charge, PowerBook G4 15" - £100".
These don't sound really promising. I then request that they test the replacement display with the crankycat image and he goes."everything will be tested properly before despatch dont worry"
From what i gather the guy just wanted to rush and get things outta the way so he could go home.
I really don't think this will get fixed, but lets hope apple proves me wrong this once.

• Cable vs Leased Line which is better

Looking for info on what service would be better to use. I'm controlling 18 sewer pump station with radios now but want to make it faster and do some real times. At this point i'm polling each location once a minute and i want to see it in realtime.

We have worked for two seperate customers where we installed ethernet modems on lease lines and connect to the remote PLC's using a Modbus driver and selecting Modbus ethernet mode and  have had good luck with that.  The poll rates we have set are between 1 to 3 secs.  The server on one site currently is looking at 9 sites.
We had some situations where the lease lines were being abandoned so we have now switch most of the sites to wireless ethernet radios and are having excellent results.
We have not tried cable but using the radios and ethernet have worked well.  Previous to the conversion to ethernet modems we were using serial modems.  With the serial modems we needed to transfer all the data to a master PLC and then have Lookout Poll the master PLC.  The poll times there were longer due to the nature of the polling updates.

• Which is better lease line or VPN??

Hi..I need to connect 10 sites with no web portal, public users...which is better between lease line or VPN ..is there a need of firewall?...Does VPN also covers the L4-L7 securities ??..should I go for lease line or VPN ??
When I go for VPN, still there is a need of Firewalls to provide the L4-L7 securities if Web servers are there ...??
Please suggest me ..
Regards,
-Sanjeev

Yes for sure VPNs and firewalls are complementary technologies and both are required on most networks. To simplify you could acquire a UTM box that could offer you all this on the same hardware unit, resulting in reducted TCO.
Leased lines vs. other medium discussion is not about the 'better' or worse. You have to balance between reliability/availability and COST. A properly desgined MPLS VPN (ISP) could offer a pretty decent uptime (just make sure you have an appropriate SLA with the ISP).

• Options for QoS on 2 meg PPP lease line.

Hi,
I have a 2 meg PPP data lease line bet my HO and BO. I need to know the Qos options, I can configure to run voice over the same link. I want to reserve 384K to voice traffic.
Will auto qos be of any help ?
Thanks

This may help you. Multilink PPP for fragmentation and LLQ will give you what you need.

• Load balancing with Serial Leased Lines & Etherdrops

This problem is a unique one.
I have 6 Internet Leased Lines of 2 Mbps each. Keeping in view of the increasing thirst for Bandwidth, I ordered Etherdrops for the ease of on the fly upgrade, as & when needed.
To my surprise, when these Etherdrops were terminated on router, there was no trafic flowing over these etherlinks. I had to forcefully put traffic on these links using PBR.
I want to use all my links i.e. 6 serial + 2 etherlinks for per packet load-balancing.
can some1 help.
Regards,

Hi
are you running any routing protocols with your ISP ?
also you can have a max of 6 equal cost route in routers.
Thats the reason i feel you are unable to use the etherdrops.
Y dont u think off going on upgrading the E1s into Fiber and take them as single ethernet output or a E3 output ?

What is the WAN speed?

• How does BT leased line work?

I mean, BT Infinity is Exchange, Cabinet then to your home but the line between the cabinet then exchange is obviously shared with other users. Is BTs leased lines a fibre optic line straight from the exchange into your home? And can you even have BT leased line foir a home or is it only for a business

You can get a fibre optic leased line from many ISP's prepared you are willing to pay the price.
Due to the cost per year it is only usually companies who have them. They are totally different to residential FTTP or FOD offerings have a different SLA and provide minimum guaranteed service.
A simple Google search for "fibre optic leased line" will lead you to the companies that provide them.
Be prepared to pay thousands for the install and yearly cost. If you have money to burn it is the way to go.

• Metro Ethernet vs Leased line

Guys,
I'm setting a proposal for WAN link. there will 2 option, 45 MB leased line and 100 Metro ethernet. I need to know what is the pro/cons for this 2 technology as i need to explain to the customer.
Do anybody have a link or explaination on this?
Thanks
Rezzo

WAN vs Metro
1) Future BW Expansion : Metro-E BW expansion is as very easy compared to adding leased circuits to the WAN.
2) Service levels : Since Metro-E is a service it has better service levels than a traditional WAN link.
3) Finally Cost: In most cases the BW cost derived per Leased Circuit to that of Metro-E Link is higher in most places.
What may make the choice of WAN more practical is the availability of WAN only and no Metro service in a area.
Plus if the customer is not at all comfortable with a shared infrastructure link like Metro-E.

• Tidal Scheduler Command line issue

I am unable to pass command parameters with quotes (I need quotes also to be stored in command parameters). The SACmd.exe is not displaying any quotes when Command parameters are passed. I need quotes because I am calling FTP script in Command and source and destination in command parameters. Example is below:
Command : frppro.exe
Command parameters should be:  -s "Shared Path!Source" -d "C:\program files\".
But i am unable to get quotes in command string. Is this a command line issue or let me know is there anyway to get quotes too from command line.

Try the "fix" I documented at

• Horizontal line issue -- some new thoughts

Hello there.
Regarding the horizontal lines / waves issue, has anyone else noticed that the intensity of the problem varies with the position on screen? The problem is especially visible in the upper left corner of my screen, yet is almost non-existent in the lower right corner. From the upper-left to the lower-right corner, the problem degrades. This is true for both the "lines" issue and the "waves" appearing.
You can try yourself by setting your desktop background to "Tile" and using (part of) the Crankycat picture (you can download a cropped version at http://siteffects.be/maarten/powerbook.png).
On my machine, the waves problem is very visible in the light-blue "Sources" area of iTunes (i.e. left part of iTunes, so coincidentally in the "worst" part of the screen). When moving the iTunes window to the right, the problem eventually disappears.
On a sidenote, has anyone tried to use the Powerbook with Linux? I'm really wondering whether a completely different operating system would solve the problem. I've tried using Ubuntu live CD's (both stable version and new "Dapper" version), but they do not seem to work. In general, I have the impression that you need kernel 2.6.15, which is the only one supporting the latest Powerbook.

Hi Sebastian,
When using sRGB (not IEC61966-2.1), I do see what you observe, however it is not THAT apparent.
Except. If I increase the contrast of the screen one notch (CTRLOption+Apple.), the heavy lines/wavy lines is very obvious. But if you increase contrast two notches they go away completely. Interestingly, on my dispaly, if you chose Generic RGB, and increase the contrast one notch, the whole orange panel shows heavy banding.
You can reduce back the contrast with (CTRLoption+Apple,)
Yes, the bottom right is less of a problem than the top left. But I can just about perceive the horizontal banding.
The same cannot be said of the horizontal pixel lines in the lilac panel. These only disappear if I increase the contrast so much that the display looks terrible. (e.g. until the lilac become almost pure blue). And the problem is the same everywhere on the screen.

• IPhone 5 backlight, blue scan line issue fix

Found a fix for a double issue I was having, so thought I'd go ahead and post.  Reason being that it took fixing one before the other resolved.  I'd had an issue with the backlight on my iPhone 5 suddenly staying on after being used or even if a game notification came in or what not.  Then I had that blue scan line that flows back and forth across the phone suddenly come on as well.  Turning off/on the phone didn't help, nor did doing the off switch/home button reset thing.
What worked is going into Settings>General>Accessibility>Physical and Motor (down at the bottom) and then turning off the Switch Control.
I've had the blue scan line suddenly appearing issue before, and it seems the Switch Control comes on by itself because I've never gone in and turned it on.  But it was the first time I'd had the backlight issue paired with the scan line issue.
Hope this helps some others out.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

• Metro E'net vs Lease Line

Hi, I want to use Metro E'net and
Leased Line effectively within 4 campus
All the centers are having L2/L3 Switches and routers & WAN Links are running on OSPF as on date.
Existing Setup (2500 Desktops + 250 Servers)
1. Seperate Network ID / Internet connections / Servers for all places
2. Seperate VoIP PBX for all the places (This will work for IP / Trunks over WAN)
3. Seperate WAN Links for Connecting Different offices
4. Seperate Adminstrators for all the places
5. Seperate VLAN/VTP Server/Clients
6. Seperate Firewall for all the places
After Commisioned the Metro E'net,
Option: 1
1. Will Metro E'net be reliable having a single vendor ? If not, do we need to get from second vendor also ?
2. Can i merge all in to single network ?? Will this is reliable ???
3. Can we use VLAN/VTP information over Metro E'net ?? If so, is that secured ?? If not, to secure what needs to be done?
4. All the L2/L3 become VTP Server and rest all switches become Client mode
5. Can we forward VoIP Traffic over Metro E'net ?? (For IP we can propogate for Trunks required only WAN.. How do we do that?
6. Will Metro E'net can be used for L2 and L3 Functionality ? (If not, is it possible for split 8 MB to 4MB for 6 MBPS for L2 and 2 MBPS for Routing ?
7. Will QoS can be enabled on Metro E'net ?
8. Can we forward all the centers Internet traffic to single center?
If the above case is worked out, we will not use Leased circuit at all.
Option:2
1. Metro E'net will be used for VLAN/VTP's only
2. All the L2/L3 Becomes VTP Server and others will have Client Mode
3. routing will be used for Routers
Please advise which is good for a Corporate network and how can we impliment

• T400's Vertical line issue

I'm not sure how Lenovo doesn't have recalls yet but in our company we have T430's T440's and T450's that have a vertical line on the LCD screen. Almost everyday we have 1-2 laptops with this issue. What's even worse is we purchased some T440p's last year and for some reason they were only under warranty for a year and not 3 years and now one of the laptops T440p ran out of warranty as of 7/20/2015 and it's having this Vertical line issue. What is one suppose to do in a situation like this? It's fairly a new computer. We've had this issue on brand new machines out of the box. How is lenovo not getting sued for this problem?

Hai Deep,
Use Elements as suggested by Kodarapu.
Now goto Paragraph Formats create a format for Item lines.
ex.
Name Paragraph Format as 'IL' Now click on the Push Button "Tabs" on bottom Right.
now in "Tab Position" enter the spacing that you need for your item dispaly
ex.
Number     Tab position       Alignment
1               6.00   CH          LEFT
2               25.00  CH         LEFT
3               54.00  CH         LEFT
The above example is for 3 items
Now in your Script Windows-> Main
do the following.
/E           ITEM_LINE_A
IL           &EKPO-EBELP&,,&EKPO-EMATN&,,,,&EKPO-TXZ01&
Hope it SOlves your Issue.

• E1 Link and Leased Line

Dear Professional,
My existing customer wants to use the existing leased lines as a backup and use the new 4 E1 lines (bundled) as an active links to their current VOIP network.
Any suggestion and sample config is a big help and appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. Currently, my customer has an existing VOIP network. They have around 22 different sites and connected via leased lines. In the main sites, they have 2 3660 routers and the 22 remote sites are distributed to these routers accordingly for load balancing. The routing protocol they are using is OSPF.
Since they requirements are increasing they decided to expands and upgrade the existing 3660 routers to 7609 router, while the existing leased lines will upgrdae to E1 links, some of the sites with low requirements will use the same links and those sites with higher demands will upgrade to E1, but the customer are insisting to keep the existing leased lines as backup and the new E1 links as the active.
Thank you and regards
