Leave copy of email on server...

To enable download of email to multiple email programs e.g. iPhone and Outlook please send this as an enhancement request...
It needs to be a new advanced setting within each email account.
"Toggle on:off : Leave copy of email on server."
This is different to the option / function "deleting email from server" after download ...
You would have noticed email received (not even read) on the iPhone will no longer be able to be download to other email programs as the server will have noted it has been downloaded. If the phone leaves a copy it is avaioable to download by another program.
This will make using an alternative workaround of using MAPI instead of POP unnecesary.
Rgds Steve.

mbiphone,
The iPhone leaves messages on the server by default.
Outlook and Outlook Express do not.
And it is the same setting, just worded differently. Delete from the server tells it when to remove it. If you set it to never, that means the iPhone will not remove it from the server. It is the same setting, but with more control.
If you want to have the status of the message synced to the server IMAP supports this, and has a longer track record than MAPI.
Hope this helps,
Nathan C.
NOTE: Google using POP3 and some other POP3 servers may remove them from the mailbox after it has been downloaded by one mail client, that is a server side setting. For Google you just need to add recent: before you user name to prevent that. However, you will get copies of your sent messages when using recent: This article in Google's Help section has more about it with GMail:

  • Thunderbird 31 - IMAP - leave copies of emails on server

    Does anyone know how to set up Thunderbird 31 so that it leaves a copy of emails on the server? I'm using IMAP not POP. thx

    IMAP email is server based. The emails are always on the server and this is why there is no check box in Thunderbird options to leave messages on the server with IMAP.
    With IMAP you are just remotely viewing the messages on the server. I am guessing that you delete the message you are viewing on your computer and then wondering why it is gone from the server. That is how IMAP works.

  • Leave a copy of email on server - is this possible

    I'd like it if my email remained on my server after I've looked at it on my phone.  Anyone know if this is possible.  Thanks.

  • Leave a copy of messages on server?

    OSX6.8, Macmail 4.6 running in IMAP. How do I setup to leave a copy of messages on server, so that I can also read the emails on my iPhone? In POP I think there was an option in Prefs>account>Advance. With IMAP, it is replaced with "Keep Copies for offline viewing".
    Thanks,
    Tom

    Never mind... I had a "rule" in Mac Mail moving thing to a folder "On My Mac" and when the rule moved the item on the Mac Pro it was causing the server to (correctly and logically) erase it. All better now :-)

  • POP email account - Will IPhone leave emails on server?

    Hi,
    I am a former Blackberry user.
    If I set iPhone to retrieve messages from my POP email address, do I have the option of leaving those messages on the server so that I can download them later to my Outlook 2007 via the send and receive option?
    Does iPhone delete the emails that it receives from the POP email account? I assume that iPhone just "copies" the emails, like Blackberry.
    I just want to make sure that it is like Blackberry, where I can access my emails from iPhone and still have my emails download to Outlook.
    Thank you!

    Dear Allan
    My iPhone worked perfectly but yesterday it wouldn't sync with my Mac: it didn't add new entries in my Address Book (I have 1300 and cannot do this by hand!). Eventually I started afresh ... I managed the sync after resetting sync history (all entries on Mac now on iPhone, but new ones on iPhone are now gone)
    Furthermore, I set everything re Mail and Safari like it was (I wrote it down the first time I did this and couldn't get it going) but no go: "Could not activate EDGE: You are not subscribed to EDGE". I do not use EDGE [have a POP3 account] - I did set Network to Data Roaming (like the first time) but doesn't work.
    Any suggestions?

    This setting, and many others are in LDAP, and so cached in Messaging Server. The average time to make such changes take effect is 10 minutes.
    Or, you could restart the MTA, to make your changes take effect immediately.

  • Leave email on server, delete from i-pad HOW?

    OK, I've read all of the different e-mails on this subject, and have not yet found the answer. I want to be able to delete ALL mail on my i-pad WITHOUT affecting the e-mail on my Yahoo server. I have gone to Settings/Mail.../My Account/Advanced and have only 3 buttons there:
    Mailbox Behaviors
    Drafts Mailbox
    Deleted Mailbox
    Deleted Messages
    Remove
    Never
    After One Day
    After One Week
    After One Month
    There is absolutely nothing here that says to leave mail on the yahoo server when I delete it from the i-pad.
    Can anyone help me out? I do not use my ipad primarily for e-mail and save a LOT of e-mail on the server that I would like to remove from ipad.

    Thanks for this tip. Works perfectly. Seems like there is an omission from the yahoo! Mail set up.
    Might be an omission on Apple's part, or might be the configuration requested by Yahoo - there's no way to tell from here. If interested in Apple fixing it, though, you'll have to make that request via the FEEDBACK FORM — http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

  • TB v. 24.0: Changed ISP's; ~ new email in Server Settings & Outgoing Server & all Address Books and Contacts; TB still showing old email ID for Fwd & Rply

    TB v. 24.0, Win 7 Pro. Changed ISP's. I use Outlook 2007; wife uses TB, same box. Changed TB username & e-mail address in Server Settings & Outgoing Server & set as Default. Changed e-mail address in all address books and Contact lists. Now TB still showing old e-mail address in <From> when Reply or Forward. This is confusing recipients, who have been sending their replies off to a now-nonexistent account. Checked Windows Contacts - empty. Checked my Outlook 2007 - all Contacts changed appropriately. How do I kill that old e-mail address in TB when it isn't even listed any more - except when we try to Reply or Forward?

    When you got the new email address and changed ISP's, you needed to create a new mail account for that new existing email address.
    When a mail account is created there are many preferences setup to be able to manage and run that mail account. Trying to track down and modify all of those within the either the config editor or prefs.js is not only time consuming, but you could easily cause further problems if any error is made.
    So I suggest you fix the original account by reentering all the old data. Then create a new mail account for the new exisitng mail address.
    * File > New> Existing mail account.
    or
    * 3bar menu icon > New Message > Existing Mail account.
    when you have both mail accounts in your left folder pane, you can choose to move any wanted emails from the older mail account into suitable folders in Local Folders. This will save a copy of emails.
    Then you can delete the old account, leaving saved emails in Local Folders and only one new mail account.
    To remove mail account:
    * Tools > Account sEttings
    * select old mail account
    * click on 'Account Actions'
    * select 'Remove Account'
    * click on OK

  • Don't want to download email from server. How?

    Just upgrade from my Droid1 to a new Droid RAZR.
    On my Droid1, when I checked my eemail, the messages were not downloaded to the phone. They remained on the server. Then, when I checked email from my PC, any messages that were in my Droid's inbox would automatically be removed (as they were downloaded to my PC). If I deleted a mail message from my Droid's inbox, the message would still be downloaded to my PC when I checked its email.
    I want to configure the email on my new RAZR the same way, but I'm having problems. After downloading the email to my PC, the messages remain in my RAZR's inbox. I have to manually delete them   What am I doing wrong?
    My RAZR's email configuration is:
    Incoming server
    POP mail server
    Server, username, and password (all are correct)
    Port: 110
    My old Droid1 had a "Delete email from server: When I delete from Inbox" setting.
    Outgoing server
    SMTP server
    Server, username, and password
    Port: 26
    Authentication: LOGIN
    My old Droid1 had a "Require sign-in" setting
    Other settings
    Never delete messages
    Remove manually deleted emails from the server (enabled)
    My old Droid1 did not have this "Other settings" section.
    Thanks!

    i agree up to #5.
    if i get a pop3 email on the phone & don't delete it but look at the same email on my pc, deleting the email on the pc does not delete it from the phone inbox & must be deleted manually.
    as i don't leave a copy of the email on the server using outlook express on the home pc, if i get email on the pc 1st, it won't go to the phone.
    i don't delete from the server on the phone, so if i delete the email in the phone inbox, it still goes to the pc.
    oh, btw, i do a manual fetch on the phone.
    gmail does what you ask, email in the inbox is deleted when deleted from the gmail account on a pc.

  • How do I stop ActiveSync from deleting emails on server

    Hi,
    We came across a problem where users are deleting emails from their activesync devices accidentally. We need to stop it besides providing them activesync facility.
    Is there any way we can restrict sync of email deletion from activesync devices so the sync from Device to Server remains disabled. What we want is
    Server --> Device Sync Enable
    Device --> Server SYnc Disable
    Hasan

    Hi
    You will have to look at a POP3 account that leaves the mail on the server.
    I have not seen a setting in active sync that stop mail from being deleted. If you make a change on your phone it will update the mailbox.
    Mails will be in the deleted items. How are users "accidently" deleting mail when you actually have to press the delete/trash button?

  • How do I backup or copy an email account or individual emails from a closed email account

    How do I backup or copy an email account or individual emails from a former employer on my iPhone 5s.  I can open the emails, but don't have access to the server - just messages on iPhone.  Thanks!

    Hello stoutstout,
    I imagine that forwarding the email does not function (since your account is closed), so I do not know what other options there would be.
    I know this is inconvenient (and unprofessional if you need those emails forwarded) but I would probably just screen shot all the important information I need from these emails.

  • Mail:Cannot read emails in server

    No error messages. Doctor connects. I can send emails. I cannot get emails off server to apple mail. I can see (subject titles from Pop3 server) and delete emails from "account information". All this after account name change. 25 hours and no progress made. Please help. grayfish

    What’s the problem exactly? Is it that Mail doesn’t check for mail on this account, or that it checks but downloads nothing, or what?
    Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list. Leave checked (enabled) only the port configuration needed to connect to Internet and Built-in Ethernet (in that order if not the same), uncheck (disable) the rest of network port configurations and see whether that helps — if it doesn’t, turn ON again the ones you want enabled.
    Could it be that the account is in an “offline” state? Is the Mailbox > Go Online command enabled or disabled?
    Open Window > Activity Viewer and tell Mail to check for mail on this account. What do you see Mail doing there?
    Do the messages that Mail doesn’t download but show up in the Account Info window appear as already downloaded or as not downloaded yet (dot column)?
    All this after account name change.
    Not sure what you mean here. Could you please elaborate?

  • Keep Mac Mail from Deleting Emails On Server

    I have 2 Yahoo! acc'ts linked to Mac Mail.
    On the first acc't, after all my emails downloaded, I then deleted all the emails in Mac Mail (didn't need them). When I logged back into my acc't in Yahoo! (on browser), I saw that, there too, all my emails had been deleted.
    I need to keep this from happening in my 2nd acc't. How can I delete the emails within Mac Mail, WITHOUT deleting the emails from the server?
    I'm using Mac Yosemite 10.10.1.

  • Mail, wants to download 9000 old  emails from server!! help please

    HI, on my iphone 4 all warks for my 2 emails settings but on my ipad 2 one of my to emails wants to download 9000 emails from the server! how can I stop it

    it sounds like your mail is a PoP server.
    This happens because your mail has a copy on the mail server. If you are worried about downloading so many you may have to go to your mail website and cleanup there.
    For future cleanup I would suggest forwarding your mail to a iMAP server (gmail etc...) and just reading it from there. That way if you delete it on one device it deletes on all devices and keeps your mail clean and only what you want to see
    I hope this helps!
    GL!
