Leave iPhone in charger when not in use?

Can you overcharge an iPhone? Shall I keep it in the charger when not in use?
Thanks!

You can not over charge the battery by leaving it plug in for long times.

  • IPhone resets itself when not in use

I have an original iPhone which has been updated to 3.0. Since the update I've noticed that the phone will spontaneously restart itself when not in use. When this happens I'll notice the screen light up with the silver Apple logo and then go blank. This will happen repeatedly. While this is going on I can't use the phone until I plug it into the computer. Once iTunes does it's thing the phone will return to normal for a while - sometimes a day or two - before repeating this behavior. I have reset and restored the phone but without solving the problem. Apart from this everything seems to be working properly.
    Any ideas?

Have you tried restoring and setting up as a new phone (i.e., not restoring from a backup)? Sometimes those backups bring along whatever is messing up your phone.

  • IPhone 4S overheating when not in use.

    Hi
I have an iPhone 4S, which seems to be having some sort of freak out. In the last 3 or 4 months it has started overheating (to the point where you can barely bear to handle it) while not in use. I have, at least 5 or 6 times, taken it out of my pocket/bag and found a dotted screen and the phone practically on fire. I always turn off apps when I'm done using the phone as the battery isn't the best and I am often unable to connect it to a charger for very long periods of time. Quite often it cuts out without overheating and regularly shows that it has signal, when in fact, calls don't get through and I end up with a stack of voicemail messages.
My secondary role involves emergency response, and I am reached by phone, so this simply cannot happen.
What should I be doing to resolve this? Or is it time to visit the techs in an apple store? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

  • Why is the battery losing charge when not in use?

The last two times I have charged my iPad it has then lost charge by the time I use it again. For example, when I left for work this morning it was on 100% but 12 hours later it is on 60%. No apps were open and the cover was closed so I can't understand how this can happen.

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. In rare instances when using the Camera Connection Kit, you may notice that iPad does not charge after using the Camera Connection Kit. Disconnecting and reconnecting the iPad from the charger will resolve this issue.

  • Keep Nano charging when not in use?

When I'm not using the nano, should I keep it charging or unplug it once its fully charged? I usually keep it in the Bose speaker (which charges it). Is this bad? Can it ruin the battery life and/or the screen as its not really "off?"

You can keep the charge connected without any problems.

  • Should I turn off my Mac Pro when not in use or leave it running?

I have been told I should never turn off my computer by some people, and others say that I should always turn it off when not in use!  I use my Mac Pro primarily for music recording/editing in my home studio or word processing.  Now that I have an iPad I use that for web browsing, email, FBing, etc. and I find myself on my Mac Pro a lot less.  I get the basis behind both trains of thought; those who leave it on feel always stopping and starting up puts unnecessary wear on the moving disks, and those who shut down think if the parts are always moving they are bound to wear out faster.  I am not as concerned with conserving power as I am with keeping my machine safe!  If you have any information on this topic I would love to hear it. Thanks!

Providing you have a robust firewal and are not worried as a result about being hacked then leave it turned on and allow it to sleep. Make sure you allow the screen to sleep as well a that is the item that is more prone to damage by being left on all the time.
I never turn my machine off, never have with any of my Macs ever since my first one back in 1979-ish and have never suffered any adverse affects. Today, the power drain is so small when allowed to sleep that I doubt they would offend even the ardent 'turn off everything and pull out the plug to save the planet' person.
If you have an iPad or iPod synced with the Mac for email and iCal and address Book etc. then if you leave it on it should be up to date as soon as you return home, mine is anyway. With iCloud coming out very soon that may come into play even more so with all its advance pushing etc. Just a thought.
One advantage in leaving the machine on (sleep) is that you can access it from anywhere in the world should the need arise with the appropriate settings, which you can't if you turn it off.
    Leave it on.

  • Am I supposed to leave the display plugged in when not in use?

should the display be left plugged in when not in use? is it just like leaving the power cord to the MacBoold Pro plugged in when the computer is off?
    thanks

Sure, you can leave the display plugged into the socket, provided you turn OFF the display itself. There must be somewhere some switch or touch button that will turn the display OFF.
Usually, those displays use a lot of power, so it's better to save
I shall add an unrequested piece of advice: if you don't this already, please use some kind of electrical surge protector
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surge_protector> to connect your computer, display, printer, router, etc to the wall socket.

  • I used my friend itune to transfer songs to my iphone 4 but when i am using itunes from my laptop i am not able to tranfer songs to iphone.. but from my friends laptop is working.. why and what need to do ?

I used my friend itune to transfer songs to my iphone 4 but when i am using itunes from my laptop i am not able to tranfer songs to iphone.. .. why and what need to do ?

I would suggest that join your iphone with iTunes and do not sync. Than in your info window of iTunes uncheck auto sync of songs and videos. Check Mark for manual selection of songs. Also uncheck sync of songs window. After this sync your iphone and manually copy your songs from your iphone through itune by opening music under your iphone icon in the left status bar and copy to your laptop music folder. I think it would help out.  I did same for myself. Try out. TC

  • I downloaded the new 7 update and now my iPad won't charge to 100% and loses power even when not in use ?

i downloaded the new 7 update on my ipad. it now will not charge to 100% and loses power even when not in use. any solutions ??

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps BEFORE doing the reset.
Then plug it in and let it fully charge.

  • My macbook pro will not charge when I am using it.

My macbook pro will not charge when I am using it. My battery will say "charged" then "not charging" and it goes back and fourth. It says "Power Source: Power Adapter". But when I use my pro it will loose the power source then reconnect a second later to it. This problem is getting annoying because I have to stop using my macbook pro to charge it.

    Reset SMC.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
If this does not help, contact Apple.
    Best.

  • IPhone 3g shuts down randomly when not in use.

I'm running iOS 4.0 on my iPhone 3G, which I bought used. It shuts down by itself randomly when not in use a few times a day. It never shuts down when in use or when plugged in. I've seen other posts on something similar but no solution. Please help

I have a similar problem, it shuts down, when it's locked, it shut's down, when im using a aplication, it shut's down when im not using it, it's shuts down when it's even plugged in, some say it can be the battery but i dont think so.

  • I just bought a new iphone 4S and its has green and purple striiples on the screen when not in use, I took it back to store and they said it was the display protector that is making the striples?

I just bought a new apple iphone 4S and its has green and purple striples on it when not in use, is this norm? I took it back to the Verizonwirless and they said it was from the display protector on the screen?

it was from the display protector on the screen?
Most likely that is the reason.  I have a screen protector on and see similar issues when the iPhone is not on.  They're not noticeable when turned on.  Remove it and see the difference.

  • Iphone 5 battery suddening draining when not in use

Had my iphone 5 for about 3 months and was very pleased with the battery life. But literally out of no where the battery started draining super fast. Dropping 15% in 30 minutes when not in used. Here's the deal...nothing has changed ie locations, email, icloud etc. And quite honestly what is the freaking point of having those things if it drains the battery at unreasonable speeds. So I completely frustrated with Apple for at least not saying "we understand theres and issue and we are working on it." I will never switch cuz I'm an idiot Apple diehard but there have been so many bugs of late it's just frustrating. Also at the same time of the fast drain when I swipe to delete a text the delete button dissapears within one second. Both issues came on at the same time. I'm trying reseting the battery, restoring, unchecking notifications and a bunch of other features which is so stupid... whats the point of having a smart phone if you can't use the features? So I am going to demand a new phone and I know the Apple Genius guys who are so far from genius its pathetic are going to say nothing is wrong with the phone haha, just like the did with the super slow WiFi connections I get...they were completely unaware that there was a problem with iphones and Wifi cuz of course at the Apple Store the Wifi flies when they test it there but of course once you go back to your home or business the Wifi is back to super slow. Wow the things we put up with. Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions please reply.

  • Leaving applications open when not in use

This may be the world's dumbest computer question but what effect does it have on the OS to leave applications open on the dock when not in use? Any? Apps such as, e.g., Office 2008? Does it slow the OS to have apps open when not in use? Or perhaps no effect unless using them? Does it matter if Safari is left open after logging off a secure site?
I've been compulsive about closing what's not in use but I just installed Office 2008 and Word and Excel, for example, are slow to open so I'd like to just always leave them open on the dock.
Sorry if this is just too dumb. I searched but didn't find anyone else who had asked. Maybe everyone else knows.

  • Apps wanting to access my location when not in use (and not giving the option to turn it off)

For most apps, I can choose to share my location 1) not at all; 2) when the app is in use (my favourite); 3) always (even when not in use).
Why do some apps not offer the second option?
For instance, I want to use an app that locates the nearest automatic external defibrillator (if someone has a cardiac arrest) but I can only use the app when I allow the app to access my location all the time. Given the fact that I will use this app perhaps only once every 15 years, I see no point in giving them my location for the next 15 years! That's just a waste of battery power and also a breach of my privacy.
Second example: Apple's own weather app. I check the weather maybe once every month. I do not want the app to locate me all the time. But I can only choose between option 1) and 3) above.
Is there a technical reason apps work like this? Or are they just sneakily trying to get as much information about me as possible?
    Thanks for your thoughts.
    PS: I am using iphone 6, iOS8.3

everything rudegar said is right on.  Still, 10% overnight is more than you would expect - so something is still running.  try-
double click the home button, and see what apps are listed as recent.  one or more of them might be still churning away.  it is a good idea to close those out fully every night.  Any of those apps with notifications or location services may be checking in every now and then and using your power.
you mentioned airplane mode is 'off'.  this may be a terminolgy thing - but having airplane mode 'off', means that the radios are on.  WiFi, and 3 G if you have it.    turning airplane mode "on" turns off the radios.
with everything off on mine - (except I leave the wifi on) -  i use 2 or 3% overnight.
But if you really want it off - do what rudegar says.
