Leave iPods and iPhones in iTunes "Devices" List even when disconnected.

I could swear that I had seen some "Tips and Tricks" once that showed a way to leave iPods in the Device list of iTunes event when the device was not connected.
I have multiple iPods and an iPhone, and I would like to manage their content without having them actually plugged in to my Mac.
Is there any way to still allow this to happen or has this feature gone away. I've searched the forums and the web and have had no luck.
Thanx,
Pat

This used to be an option ONLY for the iPod Shuffle. It has never been an option for any of the other iPods.

Create playlists specifically for each iPod and sync only those playlists to the respective iPod.

  • Itunes is not recognizing my itouch and iphone in the device listing.  Any suggestions

does anyone have a solution as to why Itunes is not recognizing my Ipod or Iphone in the device colunm?

Try holding down CTRL as you launch iTunes to see if it will repair the drivers.
    Or try Cerbu's post here.
Or see TS1538: iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows, in particular section 5, forcing a driver update.
Please let us know which approach works for you...

  • Blue screen of death when syncing to iPod and iPhone.

I wish I could laugh. "Upgraded" to iTunes 8 and no longer can use my computer to sync to either my iPhone or my iPod. Thanks for the upgrade Apple. Now that I cannot update my portable music devices I have the extra time to stare at the new visualizer. Woooopie.
Apple is happy to point out how unfriendly Microsoft products are, but since I got this Vista box I have never seen the BSOD... Until tonight.
So, what to do? Wait for a "solution" to my upgrade, or try to remove 8 and reinstall 7? After reading about the changes to the iTunes library making a revert difficult, I am thinking I watch TV instead of listen to music. On the television... that is...

Replying to own thread because I wanted to share success. Turned power off on HP Laserjet. No reboot needed. Launched iTunes and performed sync with iPod and iPhone. Happy days. Even happier when Apple redoes driver so I can use iTunes without having to power off my printer.
An honest mistake... I would imagine it would be very difficult to find a beta tester that had that combo of hardware. Imagine... Vista and a HP Laserjet. Oh... I guess we are the beta testers...

  • Sync iPod and iPhone to same MacBook

i currently have an ipod touch with OS 3.1.2 that sync's calendar & contacts via mobile me, and everything else via USB to itunes on my MacBook Pro.
in two weeks i'll take delivery of an iphone & would then like to keep both this and the ipod touch up to date with contacts, calendar etc.
will there be any problem with synching both the ipod and iphone with itunes on the same laptop ?
and also - would i be correct to assume that i will need to download / buy any apps i want on the new iphone again & that if i sync with itunes it won't transfer everything over from the ipod ?
btw - this is probably irrelevant to these questions, but i also have an MacBook Air synchronised via mobile me but don't connect that MBA to the ipod.
    thanks,
    mark

You can sync as many ipods and iphones as you like to one computer.
Each is a different device and you can put whatever yo like on each.
You can share the same apps between the two devices - no need to repurchase.

  • HT4235 Ipod and iphone won't connect to computer. Computer says that it is receiving wrong information, Can there be another way to connect?

Ipod and iphone say that they cannot connect when trying to sync with itunes through my computer. Only answer is that the computer says that it is receiving an invalid response from the phone and ipad. Is there an answer?

Try downloading the current iTunes installation and reinstall it over the existing.
Even though it worked previously with your iPhone, connecting via a USB hub is not recommended.

Yes. Use the option to sync with selected playlists on the music tab when your devices are connected.

  • If I help out a friend & download a free app (through my iTunes account) on their new iPod Touch, will their device automatically be added to my itunes device list (and they can see all my contacts, pix, music etc)?

If I help out a friend & download a free app (through my iTunes account) on their new iPod Touch, will their device automatically be added to my itunes device list (and they can see all my contacts, pix, music etc)?

Just wondering, what context is this in?
First up, is your iTunes account part of an iCloud account?
Secondly, if it's a free app, why don't they just download it? If they are having trouble finding it on the App Store, but you can find it easily, you can share the link for it via email with them, and if they view that email on their iPod they can just tap the link and it will open the App Store to that App for them, so they can download it themselves.
If you were to go to the Store settings pane and sign in with your iTunes account, that should only provide the possibility for download items from your iTunes account, such as purchased apps, music and movies. However, if you signed in, downloaded the app, and then went back and signed out of the account again, there shouldn't be any access apart from the app you downloaded. This is provided you sign in using the Store section of the Settings app, not the iCloud section.
One problem they will have if you download this in your account instead of theirs, in order to download updates for that app, they will need you to enter your iTunes password to download the updates. Doing that doesn't give them access to anythign to do with your account other than that update, but they will be unable to receive updates for it without your password. They would also likely be unable to sync the app onto their computer, as their computer would not be Authorised with your iTunes account.
If you can answer some of the questions I've asked, I may be able to suggest alternate ways for you get them the app on their device.
Hope this all helps a bit

  • HT5848 Since iTunes Radio is now in Canada, all my devices are up to date, (iTunes'11.1.5', my macbook'10.9.2', and my iPod and iPhone'7.1', but still no iTunes radio on any of them no matter what i try. any help?

iTunes Radio is not yet available in Canada.
According to this Apple Support page, it is currently only available in the US and Australia which is revealed half-way down the page, between the two matrices.
For those with an aversion to scrolling, or with TL;DR issues, simply ⌘-F "iTunes Radio availability by country".

  • My iPod will not show up in the Itunes device list plus I get an error message

    Hello!
My iPod will not show up in the Itunes device list plus I get an error message
" One or more devices is getting too much power from the USB wire" or sumptin like that.
I've tried this with two wires, so the problem is not there.
I reseted the iPod to factory settings but it didn't help.
    Anyone??

    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another USB port and computer
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • My wife and I each have iPads ipods and iPhones on one Apple account . Should we create a new account? What happens to our iTunes ,apps and iCloud? Can we share them? Will we lose any info?

MY wife and I share and Apple ID . We both have iPads, iPods, and iphones
all our purchases in iTunes , apps and iCloud are on this . If we create a new ID for one of us do we lose any of the data and purchased material or do we still share?

I would suggest that one of you retain the existing AppleID and use it for the iTunes Store, iCloud, and Messages on their iOS device and/or Mac accounts.
Then, the other one of you can create a new AppleID.
You then have two choices for how to share your existing store purchases:
    1) You can try the new "Family Sharing" feature: http://www.apple.com/ios/whats-new/family-sharing/
    2) Or you can simply continue to use the original AppleID as your "iTunes Store" login on all of your devices (yours and your wife's), yet use a different AppleID to login to iCloud and Messages.
Family Sharing is supposed to be the solution to the problem and does indeed have some interesting shared features.  However, just using the same iTunes Store login has worked reliable for years.
The important this to realize is that in iOS and Mac OS, the logins for the Apple Store, Messages, and iCloud are all completely separate and can be independently configured.  So, you can each use your own AppleID for login to each of those services.  Just make sure to both login to the iTunes Store service using the same original AppleID.

  • When trying to backup and sync my ipad and iphone with itunes the device does not appear int he upper right hand corner anymore

when trying to backup and sync my ipad and iphone to itunes it does not appear in the upper right hand corner under devices for me to click on

In that same window - the one where you see your backups - click on the box at the bottom that say -Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads form syncing automatically. Then click OK and quit iTunes.
Connect your iPad to the computer and launch iTunes. Right click on the iPad name on the left side under the devices heading and select - Restore from backup. A window will pop up from which you can select any of the backups that you have for the iPad. Select the backup that you want to restore from and then go agreed and restore the iPad. Sync with iTunes when you are done.
Remember that when you restore from a backup - you restore everything in that backup to the iPad. You cannot selectively restore content. It is all or none.
