Leaving 60g iPod video in a car in the sun

Hello I tried a search but didn't get the info I was looking for.
I was wondering how sensitive the new iPod's were to being left in a hot car for a period of time , like in a glove box in the summer.
I definately don't think it would be the greatest thing for them but I'm just wondering if in general it's been an iPod killer here on the forum? Anyone have any experience with this type of thing ...good bad or otherwise?

On an 85 degree day, the temperature inside your car, even with the windows open a bit, will climb to 102 degrees in 10 minutes! After half an hour, it will go up to 120 degrees or even higher! On a 90 degree day, temps in that car can top 160 degrees faster than you can walk around the block.
iPod Environmental requirements
Operating temperature: 32° to 95° F (0° to 35° C)
Non operating temperature: -4° to 113° F (-20° to 45° C)
Relative humidity: 5% to 95% noncondensing
Maximum operating altitude: 10,000 feet (3000 m)

my ipod video is not recognized by the computer what should i do?

What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting this issue?  Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your PC? Have you tried a different USB cable?
What happens if you try to reset the device with it still connected to the PC?

Has this iPod ever worked on this PC or is this the first time you have time you have tried connecting it?
Have you carefully worked through each and every single suggestion in this Apple support document?

  • Will the first ipod video software ever update to the 5.5 ipod video?

Hi I have a 60gb ipod video that came out before the recent 5.5 version 80gb ipod video.
My question is even though i have the latest software for the ipod, i am not able to use the type-search feature (different from the fast scrolling feature that i do have)
will apple ever have the type-search feature in the update for those of us who have the old ipod video, since it doesnt seem like a hardware update but a software update.
    apple please answer...

  • Reformat 60g ipod video for windows

I would like to reformat a recently purchased ipod already mac formatted (and loaded with files) to windows. The idea would be to use the ipod and itunes with both pc and mac.
I haven't purchased any songs from itunes and plan to use my existing music as mp3s rather than m4p or m4a on the ipod.
I have an external hard drive (formatted fat32) which can be used to back up music/video files which reside on the mac computer (and are also present on the ipod), transfer them over to the pc, then back onto the ipod again after formatting.
I've read that apple does not officially support a windows formatted ipod to be used on a mac. I've also read that using an ipod formatted fat32 on a mac slows down read/write in itunes, etc, but not sure if that also applies to the latest ipod video units.
Can someone verify this? I would like to be able to use the ipod on both platforms.
Can I just format the ipod with windows into fat32, or do I have to use the apple software to do this?
Would using the ipod like this be more trouble than it is worth?
    dell   Windows XP

    Thank you Niel.
I have an old winme computer that I've been using to format my external hard drives to FAT32 and have had success for 200g and 300gb drives which xp and mac then recognize, but there probably is some advantage in using Apple's refomating software for the ipod, so I will use that.
The ipod will be used on both xp and mac. I came across a post regarding using one of the older ipods formated in FAT32 and how that file system slowed certain functions with the mac as opposed to HFS formatted ipod and was wondering if anybody has experienced this with the ipod video.
When using ipod with both xp and mac, are there any other issues to be concerned with, like syncing with itunes, etc?

  • Out of Room on my 60g iPod video

I have a 60gig iPod video that has about 5 gigs left, it is all music (14000+ songs)I would like to keep the music on my iTunes as I use that as I use that for my home stereo, is there some way I can flag some of the songs to delete off of my iPod but keep them in itunes?

Actually the check mark does affect play in iTunes--unchecked songs will not automatically play.
I would make a playlist of the songs you want off your iPod, you can uncheck this list when you sync your iPod and then easily recheck all of the songs after you disconnect your iPod so iTunes will still play all of your music.

  • What is SPV Diag Boot???  I have the 60G ipod video.....

I have a 60G ipod. Everytime I turn my ipod on it goes to this screen SPV Diag Boot. And I try to follow the steps to fix it but it keeps going on with these test and it never works. What is this and why am i getting this.
    Thanks alot for any help,
    -Mike-

Restoring it is a good step to take in your case to make sure it's not the iPod software causing the issue. Reset the iPod (hold the center and menu button till the apple logo comes up) and as it boots back up, put it next to your ear. If you hear any clicking, grinding or such noises, it's probably hard drive failure, which can happen without the sad face icon. Skipping and pausing can be caused by a dying drive.

  • My ipod video wont play sound through the headphone jack or the bottom connector

Hello everyone. I have an iPod Video 60GB (supports video output through the headphone jack). Which I believe was the last one before the iPod "classic".
Anyways awhile back it stopped outputting sound through the headphone jack, I assumed I had damaged the jack itself as commonly happens but it stopped outputting sound through the dock connector to my ipod speaker dock and my cars ipod connector. The clicker wont make any noise either.
When I tried to search for an answer to this problem years ago I couldnt find anything and knowing it would be out of warrenty I put it aside and forgot about it. Having searched again recently it seems as if this could be the audio processor or some component on the board coming loose? Has anyone outlined this problem with pictures and steps to repair it?
I *may* take it in and pay the $30 but I would much prefer to fix it myself. Thank you for any help with this.

Update: The model # is MA147LL. Not sure why my edit didnt take effect.

  • Does leaving your iPod in a docking station damage the battery?

I've just purchased an LG docking station for my iPod Classic. While using it for the first time, I noticed that the iPod also charges up via the docking station, even when I've turned the docking station into standby mode.
I've read on several posts that the iPod batteries eventually start to deteriorate after several hundred charges. My question is, will leaving my iPod in the docking station (so it's therefore permanently on charge) eventually lead to my iPod battery being damaged/deteriorating?
Prior to this I've always charged my iPod via my PC when syncing to iTunes.
    Cheers.

  • Connecting iPod video to Blaupunkt car stereo

Blaupunkt sells an adapter to connect iPods to their car stereo. Part number: 7607540500. It is compatible with the factory (Blaupunkt sourced) car stereo of my Fiat Panda model year 2005. The car stereo 'sees' the iPod as a Blaupunkt CD changer. It works well with the previous iPod but absolutely no-one can tell me if will work with the current video iPod that I'd like to purchase.

I talked to Blaupunkt support in the states and they say that they are aware of the problem! Now what kind of an answer is that? I agree with you, Blaupunkt should get on this problem and fix it. Blaupunkt catalog actually states that the Ipod interface works with any Blaupunkt head unit with CDC control since 1998+. On the interface box it says 2001+. The simple fact is they should get there "stuff" together and fix it!

  • Ipod Video plays in car?

Hi, I'm thinking about having an aftermarket adapter installed in my car so I can plug my ipod directly in. Because the ipod can play videos too, is it possible to watch a video on the ipod AND hear it through the car stereo? I asked the auto stereo guys, but they're not sure. Also, if it does work, can I watch home videos on it too? Thanks for any help!

    Yes, its possible!!!
I have that setup in my car.
If it plays on ipod, be it music videos, movies, home movies it will play anywhere you set it up. As long as its in a format ipod recognizes (Mpeg4).
and remember to put TV OUT feature to ON when you watch it thru you in-car tv.
One more thing, you may notice that when you use a generic audio/video cable on your ipod, it does not work (TV screen is blank) so you might say that you have to buy the ORIGINAL a/v cable of Apple. DON'T!!!!
Here's the secret: dont plug the Yellow terminal(video) to the video-in of you TV. Instead, use the RED terminal to the Video-in and the yellow and white to the Left and Right audio channels. That will make it WORK!!
Almost bought an apple a/v cable because of this BUT looked over the net to find answers and I DID!! You can find these generic cable (mini plug to A/V RCA jacks)at any electronics shop or if you have a digital camara or camcorder chances are you already have this. It ONLY cost a few $$$, insted of the Apple a/v cable which is $20.
when buying aftermarket adapters (PIONEER or the like), don't buy the ones where you can control ipod directly on your head unit, that's only good for AUDIO. that's ok if you have the ipod that plays audio only, but if you have an ipod that plays pics and video you are better of just buying the A/V cable instead.
ALL THE FEATURES OF THE IPOD WORKS and Here's the kicker...IT"S CHEAPER TOO!!!
    hope this helps!!!

  • HELP My 60g ipod video is condensed into a 55.7g ipod video

help my video ipod's hard drive capacity has been reduced to 55 G. How do i fix this. Is there any way

Your drive has not been condensed. When you see a 60gb hard drive for sale, or any other size for that matter, the manufacturer assumes the following:
    1 kilobyte = 1000 bytes
    1 megabyte = 1000 kilobytes
    1 gigabyte = 1000 megabytes
This is however not the case, as each of the these units is 1024 of the previous one, so 1 gigabyte is actually 1024 megabytes.
To find out the actual storage you get from a 60 gb drive, fyrst convert the number to bytes thus:
    60.000.000.000
    gb mb kb b
    60gb = 60.000mb = 60.000.000kb ...etc
Then divide three times with 1024, since we went three units down to bytes
    60.000.000.000 / 1024 / 1024 / 1024 = 55,87gb
Then you get the actual storage capacity of the drive. Using the same method you could see that a 500gb drive is only 465gb, and 1000gb is 931gb...

I have an ipod touch that I use solely to listen to music in my room and as an alarm clock. Will it ruin my ipod or damage the battery if I leave it on the ihome docking station the majority of the time?
