Hi All.
I aslo cannot see the green button to ask a new question.
I have anew question and I'm not sure wether to post as new (if I could find it) or just list it here, and hope someone can help?
My question is I have a friend in my contacts who recently added me to a group by mistake. I know I can delete the the group but will my friend still stay in my contacts? I dont want to lose our history.
If I should start a new topic for this can someone let me know.

Hi and welcome to the Skype Community,
You can leave a group chat any time without compromising any of the separate conversation history or 1-on-1 conversation with the contact who originally invited you to the group. Take a look at our article on group chats explaining its features:
https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA1005/how-do-i-start-a-group-instant-message-in-skype-for-windows-...
P.S.: Just out of curiosity: When you open the Windows discussion board do you see the big green "New Topic" button on top:
If not do you see any other button at that location?

  • User joining Skype group chats without permission?...

So, I have a group chat with some people on skype and then somehow this person joins our group chat without anyone knowing. Usually when other people add others, it says "+"User added User". But apparently it doesn't show it in our group chat. We are mutual friends with this person on skype, but somehow they are getting into our group chat.

    bump, problem still persists.

  • Is there a way to leave a group chat on Imessage?

Don't get me wrong the group chat was a wonderful addition/feature to the Imessage app. After a while of being in the chat and the messages send back and forth no longer pertain you and you get 100+ messages and every second your phone is vibrating or your ipod music or live TV app is dimming and you cannot barely enjoy the basic functions of the ipod. That's when it comes to a point it needs to end. IS THERE A WAY TO GET OUT OF A GROUP CHAT? No offense to anyone to whom this may relate to but it feels like a gang that the only way out is to be killed. If there's no way out I think everyone with this same issue or agrees with me should post below and make a petition and complain to apple to update this because it is really annoying.

    Hi,
It should be that in the list on the left of your Messages window that the conversation is question will show an  x when you mouse over it.
Use this to end the Conversation.
Alternatively use the File Menu > Delete or Close Conversations options.

  • How do you leave a group chat??!!!! It's annoying!!

This has been a pretty frustrating and annoying problem since I got the IPhone 5 in November.  Is there a "REAL" way to stop these text messages from coming in?  There's got to be a "leave group chat" button coming in the next update right?  Seems like it would be an easy fix to an annoying problem...Everyone I know that has the new phones and IOS ask the same question about it...

Tell the person to stop texting you next time they send a message. Just have to remove you from the list by sending a completely separate message..

  • Is there a decent and newbie-friendly group chat solution available?

The problem: we want to move away from Skype for our group chats, but can't find a satisfying alternative.
What we do right now: we use group chats a lot, for various purposes, but mainly a) discussing certain topics, or b) planning activities/inviting people over, etc. People use all kinds of different operating systems.
Currently we use Skype for that. The advantage of Skype is its ease of use: users can create group chats by simply clicking on a few names. Chats are persistent: if you go online and come back the next day, you'll still be in the chat, and you will be able to read what was discussed in the meantime. If you add somebody to a chat, they are in it immediately, without having to enter a room address, or a password, or something like that. The participants of a chat control who gets added to it, and you cannot join a chat without being invited.
The disadvantage is its closedness, which makes us depend on a single vendor's client software and their monetary interests. Plus it has been bought by Microsoft, so the future of the already lagging development of the Linux version is unclear - and users of other OSes have been generally unhappy with the recent versions. Also users can not integrate Skype into already existing multi-protocol-messengers like Pidgin, they have to run the official Skype version at all times they want to chat at.
Quite a while ago a couple of us made an attempt to move our group chats to Jabber, but the acceptance was really low - opening a chat room was a hassle, they had to be password protected to be private, invitations weren't automatic, or the invitation features of clients were buggy, and by going offline you left a chat room, meaning people had to rejoin the next time they were online, and didn't automatically get to read the conversation that was held while they had been away. IRC is out of the question too, because it lags nearly all the features mentioned above.
Now I am wondering if anybody here knows about a free, open Chat software, that makes group chat (nearly) as easy as they are in Skype.

Well, IRC does not meet quite a few of our criteria. A typical chat lifecycle might look like this:
User A decides he wants to play football the next week. He starts a chat, adds 10 contacts that he knows might be interested, and makes a suggestion for a date and time. People come online, instantly see the chat and everything that has been written, answer, etc. Others join the chat later, see what has been said, and leave. Somebody might invite a couple of others to the chat, which will be immediately added. People play football, have a bit of postgame discussion, and then either plan the next session, or the chat dies.
I just do not see how this is a workflow that we can easily achieve with IRC - at least not in a way that people will be happy with.
    - you can not automatically add people to a chat afaik
    - chat history is not persistent afaik
    - you do not necessarily want everybody to be able to just join a chat, but you also do not want to do a lot of configuration to restrict access to a chat/channel, when it might be about tonights event.
    - people do not want to type /join #birthday_present_for_xyz, they just want to be added
I don't know why, but the openmeetings demo just doesn't really work for me - I get a lot of connection errors, it's painfully slow and hangs itself.

  • Slm2005 not leaving multicast group

    Hi,
I have this SML2005 smart switch I try to use surf over some video multicast group. I have 2 video sources streaming on different multicast addresses, and 1 video receiver with a single channel. All are connected directly to the switch.
When I toggle between both sources on the receiver end, I clearly see the igmp group leave for the address of the previous channel and the igmp report for the new address on the latest channel. This is observed while setting a port of the switch in mirror and capturing the ethernet traffic. So far so good.
What I observe is the the switch continues to send the stream of the previous channel to the receiver, even though there was an explicit igmp group leave.
The switch is configured as follow:
    global:
    -enable igmp snooping: on
-Enable Unregistered IP Multicast Flooding: off
    vlan 1:
    -enable igmp snooping: on
    -Enable IGMP Querying: on
I expected some latency leave, but I let this run for 20minutes with the unwanted stream continuously being sent to the receiver.
What this causes is when both stream are present, the port of the receiver may exceed the allowed bandwidth and some packets are dropped.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Unable to connect to Group chat using AIM under Messages

Is anyone else having a problem using the group chat function in Messages.  My friend said that everytime she sent the invitiation, it said that group chat was not supported by this client.  I had problems in the past with Trillium when I first switched to my iMac, so I added a new AIM account to chat.  Tonight was my first time trying to participate in a group chat since I upgraded to Mountain Lion and Messages.. I couldn't find any settings that could be causing this.  I also tried to use the stand alone version of AIM, and it still did not work.  Any ideas?

    Hi,
Using three different Screen Names on three different different computers I can do a group chat using AIM valid names.
I started on a computer with iChat 4 and invited a Screen Name on the iMac to a group chat (prelisted on the G4/iChat 4 computer)
That has the option to "Show the participants"  - which has disappeared from the Messages > View Menu.
Once I had that Accepted on the iMac (it does pop up an Accept/Decline option buttons in Messages) I then called a Screen Name that is only on my MacBook Pro (iChat 5).
I then closed/ended the Chat on the iMac and went to the File Menu > Go to Chatroom and changed it to the account that had been in the chat and entered the room name I had started from on the G4 (iChat 4)
iChat 4 and 5 reported me as leaving the Group chat and coming back again. I also checked I could IM and that was delivered.
I tried inviting a second Screen Name that the iMac uses.
The Invite shows in the same Chat window but you cannot separate out which account is then making the reply.
i.e it does not show as a separate chat/Invite and then make it join the group chat you have going on.
The iChat 4 that did the Inviting shows the Buddy as being "Invited" but in Messages I have no way of Accepting.
The upshot of this is that Messages can join an Existing group chat using the File Menu > Go to Chat Room
The Account you are calling from may have to be changed in the drop item which is a drop down.
    Uploaded with Skitch!
Then you need to add the room name.
There is a definite issue if you want to use two Screen Names in the same chat.

  • Ignore Function Desperately Needed in Group Chat

    Hi,
I've been wondering that why there is no possibility to ignore a user in group chat? This is a mandatory feature in every communication software which provides some kind of group chats - especially in one which have some kind of persistent groups. I've seen several messages regarding this shortcoming in skype.
These things do _NOT_ fill the need:
    - Kick the user
    - Try to think that the user may have something nice/constructive to say
    - Leave the group chat yourself.
Additionally I don't care if the conversation loses some of it's continuity as long as I don't see certain persons messages. There is certain situations when you just need to be able ignore some user and I think I don't have to explain anymore for anyone why this should be possible...
Developers, please add this feature asap.

Only recently I've noticed that there's no such function in Skype. I joined a group chat in which pretty much everyone is nice except from one big douchecanoe which treats everyone semi-decently except for me. I don't wanna leave the group because of all the other people I actually enjoy talking to.
I mean, seriously? Is it something that not enough people are requesting and as such Microsoft isn't deeming it worth implementing? Come on!

  • When will the iphone allow you to block group chats!!!!!!!!!

I'm so sick of not being able to block this feature. At least let us LEAVE a group chat if you can't block it entirely. So infuriating. This is not rocket science technology. WHY IS THIS NOT A FEATURE.

We are users like you and cannot answer that question. You can submit feedback to Apple at www.apple.com/feedback and click on the appropriate link.

  • Group chat *ell,  How do I leave a chat forever

An idiot friend of mine added my email to a group chat his kids use to share vacation pics...........the rest is pure *ell.  The last 4 months i've been getting 50 - 80 kid text conversations a day (lol, i like pie, candy, poop....(just think of something really stupid).  My friend thinks its no big deal.  GERRRRRRRR
How do I make this end forever.  I know I can delete the conversation but then it comes back.  I need imessage for other things and I don't want to turn it off.
Please for the love of God can anyone help me? Or does anyone have any good revenge ideas for my good friend?
    Thanks for your time!

    Hi,
I take it this is a group chat within the iMessages set up rather than an AIM or Jabber based chat ?
I have sent as a test an iMessage to my wife's iPhone number and my own iPhone number (as opposed to Apple IDs)
As you say you or anyone involved in the Conversation can delete that chat but it does not stop the chat as soon as one person who keep it active types a message and sends it.
Once the group chat is listed with several people (and they can all see the names) anyone can keep it going - it no longer belongs to the Originator.
With iMessages there is not way to Block people.
The only way this is going to end is for everyone involved to delete that conversation.
Then the kiddi-winks would need to set up a new conversation without you.
    Seems like http://www.apple.com/feedback/ichat.html is needed.

  • Group chat invitations with jabber

We've got an internal jabber server (Jive Messenger 2.2) set up with several accounts. We can connect to the server with iChat no problem and talk to each other 1-on-1. But if we try to set up a group chat (Invite to chat...), we don't get/see the invitations. Also, the jabber server is set up to let users create group chats and you can see the rooms being created in the jabber server admin tool. Is this not possible with jabber and iChat or is my setup incorrect?
    Thanks, Erik

    Hi Erik,
My Current Jabber account is showing no Active On line Buddies.
However if I go to the File Menu > New Chat the participants type chat window opens and I can drag multiple people there for a chat.
If I check the Edit menu and Chat Options the chat has a room ID as well.
I would have to test with online people to be able to tell you that your set up was wrong.
IN the case of Jabber answers, take SillyDog's, Gilbert Taylor's or Ryan Mathus' answers over mine.

I have a school ipad with iCloud using a different ID (my school email address) . I am leaving and want to buy my own ipad and transfer all my data and docs to my personal iCloud account but don't know how to do this without deleting all data and photos?

    Heya Katie!!
So, the article you have there, HT4895, is pretty good. Just look at the FAQ section of it.
But basically, you will want to create a backup on your computer through iTunes...Just plug your current iPad into it and make sure your iPad and iTunes are logged in with the same Apple ID. At that point, just create a backup.
When you get your new iPad, and before you plug it in or set it up, follow the directions in this link to change your Apple ID. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5621?viewlocale=en_US
Once you have that done, plug your new iPad into your computer to sync up with iTunes. Follow the directions for Restore from Backup and it should bring all that info back to your new iPad.
And changing your Apple ID email info will allow you to have your own!!! This should solve all your issues and GL!!!

  • How can I leave a group in iMessage. I delete the group, but whenever a member sends a message, I get all the messages again

How can I leave a group in iMessage?
I delete the group in iMessage because I don't want to receive any more messages.
Nevertheless, whenever a member sends a message, I get all the messages again. I have only deleted the previos messages.
In the users manual, they only tell how how to create a group, but not how to leave it.
    Thank you.

    Sorry you can't.

  • If I delete an attachment in a group chat on iMessage on iOS 8, does it delete it from everyone?

and if not, does anyone know how to do it? Or am I just going to have to get everyone to delete the group chat and start a new one?

No, there is no way to permanently exit the group conversation short of having everyone in that conversation either delete it or stop responding to that message.
