Leaving domain, joining a workgroup, rejoining domain to validate software install????
I can't find anything on this... we are running on servers with no routers... no subnets... just cat 6 running from servers to small poe switches where they interface computers or telephones when they get to the rooms. we run into problems where
our windows software loses its validation... i'm guessing it's missing updates when things collide and declaring windows as non genuine... then the procedure has been to remove the computer from the domain by putting it into a workgroup and then put it back
into the domain... and windows is supposed to validate itself through this procedure. i can't find anything written on this and am starting to suspect that what re-validates windows is bringing it into the shop right next to the server so it gets it's
updates... can anyone tell me where to find information on this?

That is really a lot of effort to do something simple.
you can use slmgr /ato
to reactivate windows. By default, Windows also needs to reconnect to the KMS every 180 days or it will think it is not genuine. Does this un-activating happen at specific times after activation or is is random? That might indicate that after initial activation,
it no longer reconnects automatically. One reason might be that the required services are not running.

Unity 5.X in UM mode - Which unity accts can I take off "domain admin" group after install (ie unityinstall, unityadmin, UnityMsgStoreSvc, UnityDirSVC etc..)
and if I do so, what is the impact or if I want to upgrade in the future?
ThanksUnityInstall should be the most powerful account and is the only account that should be added to the Domain Admins group by the Permissions Wizard. This is definitely true for Exchange 200, 2003, and 2007. I've not dealt with a lot of customers on 2010 yet so this could have changed; however, I doubt it. You can verify what I'm telling you here:

To clarify what Jonathan said, by "downgrade" the UnityInstall account - the rule of thumb is this:
Cisco supports that you DISABLE the UnityInstall account, if desired, after an installation. This account should only be used during installation activities. However, DO NOT DELETE the account in AD. So, again - disabling the account is OK.

There is none. Whatever you do to get rid of the older versions will inevitably do damage to shared components and other stuff of the new versions as well. That's just how it is with this approach... Uninstall the older versions, run the cleaner tool then reinstall CC 2014.

Clients can't rejoin domain after server clean install
Hello, I've got an issue with having client computers rejoin the domain after reinstalling the server software. Another post I read suggested saving the plist files to get the settings the same, but I need to reconfigure manually to eliminate some other problems we've been having.
We've got an Xserve running 10.4.8 with a mix of XP and Tiger clients all authenticating with the server. Our XP clients have remote profiles converted to local and our Tiger clients use mobile accounts. Generally things were running OK, but we kept having some authentication issues and have SMB crashes. In reviewing our log files it was suggested that our Open Directory was messed up (probably during our upgrade from 10.3 to 10.4) and that a clean install was the best course of action. The server has been running 24x7 for over 3 years without any signifigant maintenance, so this seemed like a good idea.
Everything was going great. I did the clean install and had DNS and DHCP configured and working, then started setting up Open Directory as the PDC and Windows Services as the Primary WINS. I had intended to recreate the user accounts because I didn't want to reintroduce problems by restoring the settings, however when I added one account and tested logging in on a XP machine it couldn't authenticate even though the domain name and user name was the same as before (short names too). On a whim, I moved the computer from the domain to WORKGROUP and then rejoined the (new) domain. Upon login it created a new roaming profile named user.domain instead of using the other account already there. On the XP client in accounts, the old profile showed up as unknown. I then went to a Mac and tried to log in and had similiar issues not finding the authenticating server.
After pulling my hair out this evening and realizing that there was no way I was going to have the office operation in the morning, I did a full restore from backup and pretended like I hadn't just wasted my weekend. After I got the server running, I was able to get my client machines to see the domain again and all is as it was.
Soooo, now the question is how do I create a clean installation with newly created user accounts and get the client computers to recognize the domain server as the same old one? Is there a hidden domain ID or something that is telling the client computers that it isn't the same domain or LDAP server? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

xserve G4 & XRaid Mac OS X (10.4.8)Sorry, to clarify I did not want to use the archive & restore because I didn't want to reintroduce the errors I was trying to eliminate. I setup the Open Directory as a PDC from scratch and then ran into the client authtenication issue. In a desperate attempt to salvage the situation I did restore the previous settings which (A) didn't work and (B) may have made things worse because I already had created some groups and a few users and ended up with groups with duplicate IDs. That was when I scrapped everything and restored the disk from backup.
Your idea of using export/import is a slightly different avenue. However, now that I'm thinking about it, I didn't even get far enough for the user profiles to be an issue because the client computers weren't even communicating with the server to get the list of users (the Macs log-in by selecting a user name from a list).
Does export/import of a computer list work? I think I tried to import the computer list last night and the one I had only contained the Macs and these didn't preserve the MAC address info for some reason. I didn't have an export of the XP machines, but tried to manually add them to the list with no success.

Near caches disappearing on cluster leave then join
In the situation where a node gets dropped from the cluster, either because of GC pauses, network problems or whatever, normally it will manage to join back into the cluster and all of the distributed caches come back. However it seems that near caches are not recreated when the node rejoins the cluster. This is very problematic as although the system seems to be healthy, its performance is dramatically reduced.
Why are these caches not being recreated? Is there some configuration to ensure this happens?

I guess you are referring to the fact that during "disconnect" the content of the front tier of the near cache is cleared. It is done to prevent the client using stale data. After the re-connect, the front map will start "refilling" from the back tier as the application gets the data, which is no different with what happens upon the near cache initialization.

Please help me in rectifying this error.Sounds like something is wrong with the Oracle ProcMGR service or the IPC configuration. Is it running? What user is it setup to "Log On As"? Review the Tuxedo Installation section of the Install guide again. What tools release? Maybe try reinstalling Tuxedo. Did you do the Full Install?

How WLS makes one JMSServer leave or join a distributed destination?

When one member becomes unavalibale due a server failure, traffic is then redirected toward other avaliable destination members in the set.
Currently, I created two queues and defined two JMS Servers (JMSServer1, JMSServer2). These two JMS Servers are in same distributed destination (JMSDes1).
My question is
1) when the JMSServer1 is shutdown, How WLS marked it unavaliable? And How WLS makes it leave the JMSDes1? (If you can know where I can find the documents, it will be greate).
2) After the JMSServer1 is recycled and is active, how WLS markes it avaliable and makes it join the JMSDes1 again?

Coherence multicast issue - nodes leaves, cannot join back
We have six nodes in a cluster. We use multicast with a TTL=1. The nodes are all part of same VLAN.
After certain period of inactivity, we see multiple nodes leaving the cluster with messages like below...

Renaming domain with Exchange 2013 installed in AD
Hello,
We installed Exchange 2013 into a Windows 2003 Domain (Forest and Domain are Native 2003). The internal FQDN is for example internal.local and the external FQDN is external.com.
We created a certificate request in exchange that included both the internal and external FQDN’s for a 5 domain UCC certificate from godaddy.com. When requesting the cert all
of the .local addresses were removed (was 10 domain names but who wants to pay more). When we install the certificate on the exchange server and assign services to the certificate, OWA works externally without issue but internally OWA and outlook do
not work (certificate errors).
Is the following our only course of action or do we have another option?
Un-install Exchange (we’ll backup the user mailboxes via pst file as there are less than 10 mailboxes)
Rename the domain
Install Exchange 2013 again
Re-build the mailboxesAs others mentioned, it would not be a good idea here to rename your domain. It would be better to review the DNS names used internally to make sure that they are in the scope of the used certificate. You might consider using a split-DNS setup for internal
users if the certificate you use contains only external DNS domains.

Edited by: Syed Khawar on Aug 6, 2012 10:09 PMQuite tricky. Your create script doesn't work, I changed the times to character, but probably you should just include the time in the main date fields. My solution supplies a record for each day between first and last record in attendance for each employee in either table, and to make a better test case I added an employee on leave the whole time. You can tweak to handle weekends, and other non-leave absences if you like.

Changing the host.domain once R12 is installed..
Hello all,
We installed R12 on a brand new machine (named localhost.localdomain). It installed fine and we were able to get to it by http://<ipaddress>:8000. The system administrator wants to change this to <XYZHOST>.<ABCDOMAIN>. What do we need to ensure that the app still functions correctly?
We have changed /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1 <XYZHOST>.<ABCDOMAIN>
and am able to ping by name and Ip.
We are having no problem logging and looking at the JSP pages of R12. The forms however are not cooperating at all :). Any ideas/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I currently have a Bootcamp partition (30 Gb or so) running XP pro. I want to switch to Win 7, which I understand requires a clean install since there is no upgrade path from XP directly to Win7. While doing so I want to increase the size of my BC partition. (I'm offloading iTunes and iPhoto to external drives and freeing up 60+ Gb so I can make a bigger partition)
Do I just run Bootcamp Assistant and do the deed as if I were starting from scratch, but specify a larger partition?
The full scenario is that I have an HP laptop running Win7, and XP pro in Bootcamp. I want to swap them. Any advice on the process? Activate/Deactivate/Reactivate dance. I realize this is a Windows question, but someone may have done this before.

you can't use a HP install on Mac.
you need a retail Win7 to activate on a different motherboard.

Just installed Mavericks 10.9.2 on Imac and now it wont go to sleep - it shuts down so have to restart repeatedly??
Because there is a flaw in the App Store that gives you an alert you can never ever get rid of telling you to download Mavericks, even though when you click it then tells you your machine is too (I have to say 'darn' here because Apple automatically astersiks out the first word I used that also begins with d and is four letters) old. So you have to live with that little "1 update available" alert, though in reality, you cannot install it. You can imagine that either it is a sinister plot to wear away at you to buy some new hardware, even though yours is working just fine, or that it is a programming error Apple just doesn't care enough about to correct.

we have 2 VPS servers with a single WAN NIC. (each server has its own public ip)
DC01 is the domain controller
TS01 is a terminal server currently working in a workgroup
i installed the RRAS server on both of the devices and created a new domain user with dial in permissions.
configured the ipv4 settings on dc01
on the TS01 i created a new connection and for the start i choose PPTP
when i create a connection from the network and sharing center everything works fine
however when i use the RRAS console with exact the same settings i got a error

Go to settings and check IPv4 Remote access server
