Leaving iPhone in the Dock - shorter lifespan?

Hello,
is it possible to damage the battery if iPhone is left constantly in the dock when not in use?
They say, you must not leave mobile phones hooked up to the power cable, because it could shorten the lifespan of the battery.

Only reason would be is if you have no ground. The only way this can affect your iPhone and not just the battery would be these reasons:
* Your iPhone is connected to a bad USB cable to the PC or AC Charger
* Your surge protector, the AC Charger is connected to, has no ground
* Your surge protector's "grounded" light has burned out
* You have experienced frequent lightning storms where you are at
The iPhone battery has two modes. Neither one will damage the battery. First is the recharging cycle and then the trickling cycle which keeps the battery charged while the network connection is still active.

So even if I just ask to pay them to replace the lock button they won't because my screens are third-party?
Apple does not repair devices beyond replacing the screen on some models or a battery replacement.  They replace the ENTIRE device.
For the Out of Warranty replacement cost, you could have gotten a fully functional replacement device.  Instead you chose to spend less to get only the screen replaced and continue to live with additional issues.
Apple will not touch the device now.  They will know that it was opened elsewhere and that the replacement screen is not original.

  • Is it bad to leave ipod in the dock

I have a Belkin dock that connects to my receiver. It also charges my ipod. Is it bad to leave it in the dock for extended periods? Afraid of battery issues etc.

No.  That should be just fine.  See this article for more details and information regarding your iPod's battery.

  • Aperture keeps opening when I put the iPhone in the Dock

How do I stop this, but enable Aperture to open when a card reader is connected?

That even happens when I insert a USB thumb drive but the only thing to do is to deactivate it completely from the Aperture preferences. That is what I did with the thumb drive. You will have to open Aperture, or iPhoto for that matter, manually and do the import.
I believe is not just the iPhone... is everything that has photos in it. Technical speaking, I am pretty sure your software can sort out what you connect to your computer and that would be a good recommendation to leave in the feedback section: to customize the action a bit further.

    1. It's not aligning properly with the dock. Take phone out and really look carefully at the dock and the port on the iPhone and attach them both very carefully making sure the phone is fully and completely seated in the dock.
    2. Even when seated properly, the message may display once. Hit OK and move on.
Here's what I've learned having encountered this (though not the repetitive display of that message):
The old docks for our other iPods really are not quite fully compatible with the iPhone. (Shame on you Apple). Somewhere on this board is a note that the new docks will be coming out soon as these 3rd parties re-vamp. I know I know... where does that leave all of us who have all this stuff that we had working just fine with our iPods pre-iPhone. I dunno but they better come up with some fix other than buy a whole new clock radio, et al.
Business opportunity - make little dock adapters for really cheap that you just drop into all of your older iPod docks that go between the iPhone and the dock on the clock radios, et al that will bridge that gap, so to speak. Maybe somebody is already doing this???

  • Leave the ipod in the dock?

Is it OK to leave my ipod in the dock with power on the dock? Or should I disconnect the power after recharge/use?

You can leave it in the dock with power connected if you so wish.

  • Sleeping in the Dock

No, not the 'sleeping while playing' problem, rather the opposite.
While at my desk and not needing the iPod elsewhere, I want it parked in the Dock. I am happy for it to automatically sync each time, but one that is finished I want to put it to sleep, so it's ready for when I next need it.
    BUT
It will NOT go to sleep. After syncing, with battery charged it sits there with the screen announcing that it is charged and that's it. I CANNOT get the screen to shut off which is unacceptable when it might be many days before I use the iPod again.
Am I missing something here? Is there a way to get it to sleep in the Dock?

If you leave the auto lock on, your iPhone will auto lock based on your chosen setting to auto lock automatically - hence the name for this setting, which is Auto Lock.
If you don't want your iPhone to auto lock, you must turn off auto lock. When auto lock is off, you can manually select the sleep/wake button to put the iPhone's screen to sleep.
Either that or get in the habit or re-enabling auto lock the first thing when removing your iPhone from the dock.

  • Ok to leave iPhone docked most of the time?

I have a dock at home and another one at work (I live 4 minutes away from work) so my iphone is docked 95% of the time, I don't even take it out of the dock to pick up a call because I use my bluetooth piece. is the iphone happy or unhappy?

The iPhone is happy. Once it's charged 100% (topped off), the charging system shuts off, therefore powering your iPhone via AC.
But i would on occasion pull it off the dock/AC and let the battery drain by using it (25% or so) just to keep those Lithium Ion electrons flowing and happy

    Hi there,
Thanks for reaching out to the community.
Please help. Since I updated my Iphone4 to ISO 6.1.3...The ringer button not working, can't play any music (but ok with the dock), headphone sound is muffled. What can I do? I tried restoring and downgrading but it won't let me.
It appears like you may have a hardware issue with your ringer button and internal speaker that came to light after the update. If you have already restored your iPhone back to factory settings using iTunes, you may need to have your phone serviced.
Some potential good news... Check your headphone jack for lint. There may be enough to cause a muffled connection. You can try to blow it out with compressed air or very carefully pulling out any solid objects that may affect the connection.
    Best of luck!

When i put my iPhone in the logitech dock and i start the music it stops at exactly 1 Minute. What's the problem? I cleaned the contacts, the same happened again. always after 1 minute the music pauses!

It is a known issue and un-conventional remedy.
It is Hardware failure. I would get the iPhone changed for a good one.

  • After connecting my iPhone to my Macbook Pro to download photos to my phone, my pages application is now gone from my computer. The icon is still in the dock. What happened and how do I get it back?

After connecting my iphone to my Macbook Pro to download photos to my phone yesterday, my Pages application is gone from my computer. The icon is still in the dock. What happened and how do I get it back? Its not in my trash or anywhere else.

The other 2 applications open like normal. All three give me info.
    Pages     ver.4.1          265.8MB
    Numbers ver. 2.1          89.5MB
    Keynote ver. 5.1.1        238.1MB
They all list Apr 3 as the last time opened. That was when I upgraded to Mavericks. I certainly used pages and numbers since then as I have alot of my work files on this computer?
Just very odd. I did find my original iWorks disc from when I bought the computer. I'm assuming i can reinstall it. Will try that. Thank you for all your help. Would still like to know what did happen?
