Lecture editing

I am trying to convert mp3 lectures into more manageable and user friendly recordings onto cd's. The lectures are over 80 minutes in length. They have been recorded as a single mp3 onto a voice recording using an ipod. They are downloaded into itunes. I want to break them into two cd's and a format in which most any cd audio player will play. I would also like to break them into chapters or tracks so that the user will not have to fast forward through most of the recording to get to a mid recording start point. I apologize for not being more experienced with the message board. Hope I did this correctly. Please help.

drop the mp3 in GB's timeline.
read through the second part of the tutorial on importing LPs to see how to chop it up into different parts:

burn the audio CDs from iTunes.

What are you going for....DVD-VIDEO Widescreen on DVD disc or AVCHD format on DVD disc?
Are you doing your burn to disc with a check mark next to "Fit Content To Available Space" in the burn dialog?
When you have the DVD 4.7 GB/120 min in the burner tray and are in the burn dialog ready to hit Burn, what does the burn dialog quality area show for Space Require and Bitrate with and without the check mark next to "Fit Content To Available Space"?
Just in case mention....the DVD disc with the 4.7 GB/120 min in reality is 4.38 GB.
The goal is to find out if you are overlooking the "Fit Content To Available Space" option in the burn dialog. Depending on the circumstances to be defined, use of that option does not necessarily mean a compromise in the end product quality.
Let us start here and then move forward based on the details of your reply.
    Thank you.

  • Editing Lecture VHS--sufficient or not

Hello, we are new mac users and have a program to digitalize hundreds of VHS.
We did some survey and now try to use hardwares like D/A convertor to capture video from Svhs vcr, and imac. These video tapes are only lectures of our master, single shot for 2 hours. Thus no need to have fancy effects or creative montages, only need to adjust some problems that old VHS may have, like noise, incorrect color, torsion of image...When we received Final Cut Express 4 we realized that most of its function may be TOO MUCH for simple task like ours, on the other side some suggests that if we want to preserve these lectures in the way that they could be published in DVDs in the future, we SHOULD purchase Mac Pro with Final Cut Studio for the next step.
As mentioned above, our main point is to adjust and improve the old VHS quality, seeing that these tapes themselves were not shot by professionals, neither are we familiar with video editing software. So, is FCE already enough regarding this aspect, or would you suggest us other software, more specific, professional, or user-friendly that might be.

If your primary need is to digitize & clean up old VHS recordings, then you should consider using a device like the Canopus ADVC-300. It 'cleans up' old videos through image controls & filtering, noise reduction, frame sync, edge adjustment, black & white point controls, etc. And it will convert your analog video to digital (NTSC or PAL DV) at the same time.
The ADVC-300 is about the lowest price device you will find that does a decent job (it's about $400 USD right now.) There are other good devices like this that offer more features but the ADVC300 will do a nice job. A dedicated box like this will do a much better job cleaning up your video than fiddling with each video in an editing program like FCE. It will give you better quality and take much less time.
ps. I have no financial interest whatsoever in promoting Canopus. My experience with them is as a user. There are other good devices out there, although at higher prices.

I think you'd be much better off asing in the Digital Editions forum,

  • Why does this happen when I insert editable region?

Hi ppl... I got a small problem here. When I insert editing region into the ORANGEBOX div, for some unknown reason which I can't figure out, my spry menu bar shifts to the left. But in preview, it looks fine. What's the reason for this and how can I avoid it? The shifted spry menu bar in the workspace is disturbing me.. haha.. I have attached screenshots of the 2 states below (Before inserting editable region and after inserting editable region)
Before inserting editable region into the ORANGE BOX
After inserting editable region into the ORANGEBOX
Here's the code BEFORE inserting editable region.. If you are free, do try to insert an editable region into the ORANGEBOX, and kindly tell me why it's happening! =) Thanks!

I have a digital voice recorder with a 3.5mm microphone and headphone jack and want to transfer some recorded lectures to my mac book pro.  The mac book does not have 3.5mm  jacks.  Does anyone know if a jack to USB converter would work?

Is there a pattern to the time of day or other detail that may be
traced back to a OS X system cause of this odd phenomenon?
Are there any copies of system files on any of the attached USB
external drives? Any libraries, such as iTunes, iPhoto, etc?
Once the drives are indexed by Spotlight, are their permissions
ignored by the OS X? Content, if neutral, should not affect the
wake or sleep cycle; especially if they're ignored by the OS X.
Could there be a bad cable or other component? If so that would
be a difficult process of elimination to detect it. Usually replacing
most suspect components in the USB stream (external to Macs)
is a rote way to mechanically test that idea; & not 100% sure.
Does the equipment all have a good ground to the utility or house
electrical field? An intermittent ground may affect more than sleep.
Hard to say at this point. Maybe a late-night talk radio guru on
remote viewing could peer into your situation and sleuth it out?
Sorry to have run out of ideas, but the process must be electrical
& mechanical to some extent. - Or perhaps odd software inspired.
Do you have any phone-home spyware items inside, just jumping
at the chance to spill your information? Little Snitch may help.

  • Why can't I edit certain pages within a PDF?

I use acrobat pro to edit powerpoint presentations that have been turned into PDFs. In some documents, certain pages won't let me select images using the edit text & images function ( normally if you hover over, a blue outline appears, indicating something you can select but nothing happens one these slides), and I can select the add text tool and create a text box, but whatever I type in it doesn't show up. I've tried switching back and forth between the selection tool and the hand tool, but that doesn't make a difference.
I have tried adding sticky notes on these pages, which seems to work, but often makes the program crash before I can save what I wrote.
Thanks in advance for any help.

They are lecture notes, originally powerpoint files and converted to PDFs and posted online. If I didn't have editing permissions, I don't think I would be able to edit any of the pages, but it is only certain ones within editable documents. It seems to be tied to documents having a lot of images, which also make adobe crash very often.

  • Highlighting an editable text sprite

I have a bunch of form type of pages on my stage. User enters
    text,
jumps to a new screen, edits more text. Typically, the cursor
    will be
blinking at the sprite in the lowest channel, which would
    ebbe my top
item on the page. Sometimes, I may have form1 that has the
    same text
member as form 2. If, in form1, you clicked text2, then go to
    form2,
which also has that text in slot 2, the cursor shows there
    instead of
the top text sprite (slot1). How would I fix that? And what
    if I wanted
text 3 to have the cursor ? How would I get the cursor to be
    set to a
specific text sprite and how would I get it to be highlighted
    like if
you selected all the text in that member?
    Hope that was clear.
    Thanks.

    Hi Mike,
Want to help debug something I'm doing in this area. I'm also
    using 'the
keyboardFocusSprite' but with a variable. Variable can keep
    increasing
(when you click a button, a new item is added and the next
    editable text
should become active). The first time I click the 'add'
    button, it works
OK, but subsequent times, it does not work.
Here's a sample of my code for the add button:
    gWelcomeNamesList.add([#name : "New Name", #image : ""])
    s = gWelcomeNamesList.count
    put s
repeat while s > 8 -- there are 8 items on my list
    s = s - 8
    end repeat
    put s
    spriteFocus = 9 + (s * 7) -- formula based on where editable
    sprites are
    in Score
    put spriteFocus
    the keyboardFocusSprite = spriteFocus
    put the keyboardFocusSprite
In my Message window, I can see the list count gets bigger
    each time I
    click (first s)
Gets the position of the sequence of 8 correct (second s)
    get the spriteFocus value correct
'the keyboardFocusSprite = spriteFocus' -- works the first
    time
second time 'the keyboardFocusSprite = spriteFocus' doesn't
    seem to be
activated. The last line 'put the keyboardFocusSprite' still
    shows the
focus to be the prior sprite, not the new one which is now
    accurately
    defined by 'spirteFocus'.
    That make sense? Any ideas?

  • Problems Editing Previous Annotations with Preview

    Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem with Preview and/or has any advice on how to fix it.
Ever since upgrading to Mountain Lion, I've been having problems whenever I try to edit any of my text annotations in Preview. All of my notes for school are given as PDFs, so I have always used Preview and the textbox function to take notes during lecture. Before I upgraded, if I opened a previously-annotated document to study from and wanted to change something or add to the text, I would simply double-click the textbox and be able to fix it in 1 second.
Unfortunately, trying to make any changes to annotations has become a major process ever since switching to Mountain Lion.
Basically, as soon as I double-click any textbox to edit something I wrote at an earlier time, the box will shrink up to a single line that goes off the page and into oblivion. I have to resize the textbox over and over again just to fit it back on the page, which can be time-consuming and frustrating when paragraphs of text are suddenly condensed to one line that extends ten miles beyond the margins. It happens both with older documents from Lion and with the new documents I've only downloaded and annotated since upgrading to Mountain Lion. I thought maybe it was just my computer, but I tried it on a friend's Mac with Mountain Lion and had the same problem.
I have only used Preview for everything, so all of my annotations have been made using the same program. Also, it gives me no trouble if I try to edit as long as the document remains open; it only happens after I close out of a document and open it up again at a later time (even if it's immediately after closing it). Unfortunately, I can't keep 200+ documents open on the chance I might need to edit them at some point.
If anyone has any clue how I can stop this from happening in Preview or has a suggestion for another good PDF editor (aside from anything Adobe preferably), I would really appreciate it!!
Thank you very much in advance.

This is happening to me too! It's so frustrating especially since I've come to love Preview before upgrading to mountain lion. At first glace it seemed Preview had become more userfriendly with the textbox, line and circle drawers all separate icons now but the textboxes are such a pain. I know it only takes an extra 5 seconds or so, but by the time you add all the 5 seconds' up, it's heaps of time. It's especially hard if I'm listening to a lecture and I have to stop and fix my textboxes while the lecturer is still talking.
Sorry this isn't much of a solution, but I hope you don't feel alone dealing with this flaw!

  • Editing (download/upload) of shared file ... ?

We have a customer using Filr for sharing files from NET folders to some external users for lecturing/corrections.
Therefore they must have a possibility to edit/modify files they have been shared to.
I have tested WebDAV in-place editing and it (a sort of) works. For me, at least. But it involves configuration of all that stuff with certificates on windows 7 ....
The problem is in external users's wide range of different hw/sw configurations which means a lot of support, writing of instructions...
Is there any way for external user to download a file he has been shared to, edit/modify it and upload it, instead of in-place editing ?
Internal user can do that with file inside NET folder.
External user can do it in the folder he has been shared to. But folders can be shared only from user's homes, not from NET folders.
Any idea? Or info when will it be possible to share folders from within NET folders to external users ?

Adding the ability to share folders from within NF is definitely on the
roadmap, but right now is slated as a post-Filr 1.1 enhancement. For
now what you see are the options external users have: download the file
using the web/desktop/mobile clients, edit, and reupload; use WebDAV

  • How to download LabVIEW 11 Student Edition for OS X

I received my activation number for LabVIEW 11 Student Edition by email for participating in an online lecture and solving a problem.
In the email there was no link to download the software.
Where can I find a download link for LabVIEW 11 Student Edition for OS X?

    Hi,
I will try to go through it with you and I believe we will find a solution.
The 2011 version of LabVIEW for OS X is no longer available from this link, a new version was released in the meantime. First I'd like to try to get a new version to you. Can you please check whether you can't get the serial number for the new version as well? Usually these student versions are available for free.
In the worst case I will upload you the old installer on the FTP.

  • Exported file size/Lecture Capture

I have been doing some lecture capture using iShowU which captures my laptop screen and simultaneously capturing the audio on an iPod with an XtremeMac mic. I prefer to do it this way rather than capturing the audio with a wireless mic in the iShowU application, given some unpleasant experiences with computer crashes with large Powerpoint files. I have then melded the two using iMovie and want to export as a QT. However the export time is incredibly long. For a 6 MB video file and 45 MB audio file, it takes 2 hours and I end up with a 92 MB file! Any suggestions welcome, as I am new to audio/video software.

I have used the drop-down menu that appears when "exporting" and selected the jpg-original size option
When you export a version with "jpg-original size", Aperture will render a new file, with the pixelsize (width and height) of your original image file, but tat does not necessarily mean that the file size will be equal to the file size of the original image file. The filesize will depend on the jpeg quality setting. The lower the quality value, the smaller the file size.
I'd suggest you check your "jpg-original size" setting. When you are sharing or exporting, select
"jpg-original size" and then set the Export preset to "Edit". Check, if the "size to"  is really set to "Original size" and check the jpeg-quality.

    Mike,
I was successful, in a test I just conducted, to get Siri to record your problem statement in a Note file on the iPod as I used the Edit > Speech feature in Safari to play the text. I don't see why dictation wouldn't work as well. Why not give it a try?
If you don't have an iOS device to try this with, you could write your audio file to a CD and use an external player to get audio to the Mac.

  • Editing DVD, NEED HELP!

Hey everyone! I just got a NON-COPYRIGHTED DVD which I need
to delete and add a new first scene on. I saved the Video_TS folder
to me PC, but it wont let me add the files (VOBs ETC)
How can I edit this DVD with Director? Or can I not edit
    DVDs

Thats why I bought it....... Like cant u save it to ur PC and edit
    the VOBs?
    Hi,
As was said before, Director cannot edit DVD video. You will
need a video editing program like Premiere. Director can read
    chapers
from a DVD or allow you to play sections of a DVD. Director
does not allow DVD authoring. Any application you create will have
    to
run off a computer (Mac or PC). It does not allow output to a
    TV DVD player.

  • Phone labels don't stick when edited

I have had this problem since the first version of Address Book. When I go into edit mode on an address card and change the label on a phone number (from Home to Mobile let's say), then exit edit mode, the label change doesn't stick. It just reverts back to the original description. Is there any way to make the label change on a phone number permanent?

I have done the same thing you have done. I am doing a lecture series for a teacher. I record her voice with logic express and then transfer the audio into the slides and set the timing to fit the audio. When I convert to Quicktime the ending of the slides are extended, which means long pauses between slides. I figured I could convert to DV from keynote to try to cut those long pauses in iMovie but they keynote program just would crash at the end and I didn't have a DV file. So, I'm just converting from Quicktime Pro into a DV file and work on cutting out the long pauses in iMovie. I'm in the middle of this process now. This seems like a long work around but for now, but I see no other choice. Please apple (& jeebuz) help us out!!
