LED #7 always on, HD fan loud

Hello,
I have a dual 2.5 G5 and the hard drive fan is unusually loud, also the LED #7 (below the top RAM banks) is always on when the computer is running. Does anybody have any idea what this means?

Not sure which G5 you have...

The answer is, either you are not telling us the whole story, or something else has changed.  Perhaps your iPad is jealous of your iPod and is secretly forcing your iPod to reset it self.  And if you believe that, I have this bridge for sale....

  • IMac 2007 20'' black screen and fan loud

Hi, I have a imac from 2007 and i got it from an other person that said to me that the problem was the rams, and i got the rams and the screen continues black and the fans loud.
    Thank you.

    Hello brunofig132,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
I understand that your iMac is booting to a black screen and loud fans. The following article provides steps to troubleshoot the startup process for your iMac. It should give you an indication of what might be causing the problem.

  • Battery's not charging, LED's always green

A couple of days ago my adapter stopped charging my battery. The LED is always green. Battery is the original one, and worked fine (until now as it is completly empty).
    Tried the following alreday:
    - shutting off and restarting
    - Used a different adapter
    - resetted my PMU
    - Battery update is not necessary for my powerbook
    PowerBook G4, 1.67 Ghz, 15" Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
Sorry to hear about your charging problem. There are 3 potential fault areas: 1) Power adapter, 2) Battery, 3) logic board (sometimes the dc-in board). Since you've tried another working (it was working?) adapter, you rule out number 1. Number 2 is academic at the moment. Which leaves a logic board issue. The dc-in board has the power socket attached to it, and is replaceable on it's own, versus replacing the entire logic board.
If you system is still under warranty, take it in for repair. If the system is not under warranty, you might take it in to get an estimate - don't know if your local Apple center would replace just the dc-in board or would insist on an entire logic board replacement.
Used dc-in boards run around $90-$100 (see http://pbparts.com or http://www.ifixit.com - ifixit also has directions on how to replace it, see http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Mac/ - not for the feint of heart or inexperienced).

  • Fan loud because of bios F.20 in hp 620

    hey!
year ago i bring my HP620 to technical support to replace my wireless card , after 6 months of use i noticed that anytime i run chrome or even play a movie in my media player the fan start spining at 100% even the CPU still in 43°C , MB at 16°C & HDD at 32°C , after googling the problem i find out that it's because the technical support installed the F.20 in my laptop with no reason ! so my question is : Is there any way i can dwongrade to the original bios version without replacing the bios chip (solution in link in the dn of this topic ) ? if no is there anyway i can control the fan speed ? i tried with speedFan but it doesn't show me fan speed either i can control the fan speed ?
    informations :
    - 4GB of ram windows 8.1 last update X64 ( the problem was before i changed my windows & even in linux )
    - i cleaned teh fan & the whole computer from dust since it seems that technical support just ignore my request abt cleaning my computer -_-
-finally here's the topic abt replacing the chip which i won't do since is pretty risky if is not well done :

  • 21" Imac Fan Loud and Random

    Hi there,
After trawling these forums and others, my problem has driven me to the point where I thought id post my own thread on here.
I have had my 21" Imac for about 5 or 6 months. Up until about a month ago it has worked perfectly, until one day, whilst Idle, a fan inside kicked in randomly. Ill detail the circumstances and information here:
Fan, which is blowing air out of the top slit on the left hand side of the imac has tendancy to turn on randomly
When this happens it is VERY loud (for a computer fan)
When this happens it continues until I put the imac to sleep, or shutdown/restart, which buys me a bit of time
I have checked temprature readings and highest at these times have been about 60-70 deg celcius at the GPU, nothing ever higher than that
Ambient temp never been more than about 25/26.
This happens whether idle, or if im using a relatively heavy application all the same. Most of the time when it kicks in ive checked the CPU usage, which has been very low (10% or so) with just a few chrome tabs open.
I have tried reseting the SMC/SMU many times (switching off, unplug for over 15 secs, switch on) (and method where you hold power button for 5 secs before you plug it back in) The fact that this has not worked is very frustrating as most of the other problems on the forums seem to be resolved by this.
I have reset the PRAM twice.
I ran the imac hardware diagnostics (hold D at startup) last night, one quick test and one extended test, showed no problems.
The funny thing is that i experienced the same problem during the test. I am sure it was not part of the test as it continued well after the duration of it.
This problem has really started to get on my nerves now, as the Imac is a core part of Sound engineering and music production related work and study - as you can imagine the noise is a real bane of this.
Any help will be greatly appreciated guys, cheers.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Vance
I feel your pain mate. However, having said that, here is the situation since my last post-
The problem persisted all the way up to early september when i left home for uni.
Since, it hasnt reoccured once. There are two reasons I can think of for this:
    A) packaging up the imac and moving it a few hundred miles in the car may have knocked something (e.g. A loose sensor connection) back into place. I can imagine that this would therefore mean the problem may appear in the future, when relocated again.
    B) i have a basement room at uni which provides a very stable, relatively cold temptature (thank god with no damp, an ideal hideout) at home the room used to get ALOT hotter (thick carpet, and more heat from larger studio monitors/subwoofer etc) worth saying though this would still happen when cold at home. Maybe it is environment related?
Maybe also worth mentioning my old laptop always used to completely crash out on the basis of the graphics card overheating whilst at home, but ever few weeks where i would live elsewhere for a while it would always be fine. Very odd.
Thats probably the most i can suggest, and do let me know if you find a solution or supernatural fix to this problem. This drove me bloody nuts for ages and no forum threads on the net directly tackled this particular circumstance as far as i am aware.
Im sure anybody else in our boots would much appreciate seeing this thread rather than be corroded by the problem for so long whilst taking thier kit to the apple store isnt convenient.
    Regards,
    SK

  • Why are my fans loud?

Since I downloaded OSX 10.8.5 my fans have been going non-stop and are really very loud. Also (probably related) my battery life has dropped from ~7hrs to ~2. whats going on?

Is it making a buzzing or scraping noise?
If you only hear it in a quiet room, that is normal.
    noisy fan reasons:
A: you notice it more in a quiet room (the typical case) which is normal, all is AOK
B: fuzz and dust has caked onto the blades causing the fan hub to get off balance and make a buzzing sound.
C: fan rotor is going bad and making a whirring or buzz noise (rare).
D: Fan is spinning up due to excess heat from gaming, heavy graphics (typical, all is OK)
    A and D are normal
    B and C are not.
Do you use it in a dusty area or where there is a lot of pet fuzz?   Laptop fans act like little vacuum cleaners and take in dust etc. from the ambient air around them.
If B and C continue for a long time (B is just a cleaning), they eventually cause the fan to either seize and/or die.

  • Satellite A500-14k - HDD LED indicator always blinking

    Hi
First sorry for my bad english
    I'm french and i recently bought a Toshiba Satellite A500-14k ( http://fr.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/product/Satellite-A500-14K/1072806 )
I've got a little problem with this notebook and i don't know if someone has a solution
The LED indicator of the HDD is constantly flashing (1 blink per second) even in safe mode. I checked some forums and i have learned that there was something to do with the cd /dvd autorun function of the CD/DVD recorder.
If the autorun function is deactivate in windows registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servi ces\CDRom and key value changed from 1 to 0) the blinking disappears but i can't access any of my CD or DVD data ( the media are marked as blank). However, audio CD and video DVD are working except that they can't be started automatically.
The same thing happens if the CD/DVD recorder is deactivated in the device manager of the control panel : the led indicator has a normal activity.
I would like if this problem occurs with other owners of this product and if there is a solution to use normally the recorder without this flash
    Thanks

I don't have A500 but A300 and I cannot say for sure why this happen and what kind of HDD activity is in progress but what you can try is to remove some Toshiba preinstalled stuff like TEMPRO or preinstalled antivir application.
When the notebook is brand new first days many updates will be installed and in the background is always some activity. Is automatic update disabled?
Try also to remove TEMPRO. This tool is permanent active and search for updates.
Try simply to optimize preinstalled OS and watch carefully if something will change. I do it always after clean OS installation.

    Hello,
I am using Lenovo Thinkpad- T420. Next to Webcam the white LED light is always on, How to switch off it?

    Hi,
The white LED is the ThinkLight.  If working correctly it should go on and off with he Fn-PgUp key combo.
Does it respond to those keys?  As Jin Li asked, is it on in BIOS also?

  • Fan loudness

    hello,
when my macbook has plenty to do (rendering movies,...) the fan turns on, i think that is normal and should happen to save the cpu from overheating, my question is how loud is it on your macbook?
for me it sounds to loud, maybe i'm to sensitive, or the fan of the macbook is built to be that loud? to me it sounds like a starting airplane when it goes to full blast (i still can hear it in the next room if the door ist open). maybe it is because i'm working i a really quiet room/flat.
    what's your experience?
    greetings
    markus

Yes, you are right. Macbook's fan does crank itself up to full speed (6200rpm) at a threshold temperature (my observation is about 70C) to cool the CPU down, and that is pretty loud. If you think it goes like this too often, you can do the following things to lower the average temp so the temp won't go over that threshold as often:
    1. Update ur SMC firmware to version 1.4f10 if you haven't. This update can bring the temp down by ~10C;
    2. Download SMC fancontrol 1.2:
    http://81.169.182.62/~eidac/software/page5/page5.html
This app allows you to adjust the minimum fan speed of the CPU. The default value Apple set is 1500rpm. You can bring it up to 3000rpm which i found it's still not quite audible but certainly will give you another 5C of temp drop. Nice thing about this version is that it also has a temp gauge so you can experiment the speed you like by urself.

  • Fan loud lately

Lately my iMac is relatively loud. When not in use it quiets down eventually. When put to sleep it immediately quiets down. It was recently tuned up at the Apple Store a couple months ago. The loudness has been happening for about a month.
    Any clues?
1.8 GHz PowerPC G5; 1.5GB DDR SDRAM   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   has external maxtor hard drive

It shouldn't get louder with age, mine is a couple of
years old and the fans are fine (touch wood). It
would help if you could check your temps, you can use

  • Mail 4.5 on 10.6.7 uses 100% CPU, fan loud, temp up to 81 deg C

i've browsed the different threads, and i cant seem to get the right answer for my issue. i dont have mobileme, or any sync issue.i dont have any third party mail plugin.. i originally have 4 mailboxes. 3 gmail, 1 pop. i've reset smc and pram. ran disk utility and repaired disk permission. nothing happened. so i did a fresh install of the mac os 10.6...updated it to 10.6.7 and after 2 days i had the same issue.
what i've done so far was, i deleted some emails from the server. deleted the 2 mailboxes. so now i have 1 gmail and 1 pop. deleted smart mailboxes. deleted rss. disabled junk mail filtering. uninstalled all microsoft programs. deleted cache. rebuild mailbox. disabled auto detector for address book. AND I STILL HAVE THE SAME ISSUE.
whenever i launch mail, it uses 99-101%CPU and temperature would rise to 70-80 degrees Celsius, fan rpm would be 4000-almost 6000
i don't believe that this is a hardware issue because when i quit mail, CPU usage is normal for other apps...fan would slow down around 2000 rpm, temperature would be cooler around 40-50 degrees Celsius...
    im using a white macbook, 2.26 ghz, 2gb 1067 mhz ddr3.....
and my 1 year warranty just expired 2 weeks ago (i know!)
i live in the philippines, so there's no apple store here...just authorized resellers
im hoping i can solve this issue on my own...........HELP!!!!!

for the benefit of those who have the same problem as i do........i might have fixed the issue now....the thing was, address book suddenly acted the same way as mail...their common denominator: our company server. we were using a CARDDAV server for address book and i think it's on an infinite syncing loop ...what i did was i deleted ~/library/application support/address book after deleting the folder, i restarted my MB and reconnected my address book to our company server again.....cpu usage is now back to normal...or at least im still observing it
i've read a couple of threads and they mentioned that this issue has something to do with an infinite loop...i think they might be right! i hope apple would be able to resolve this issue
