LED display, bright edges, specially left and right

I have a mbp 5.1 late 2008 model received jan 2009.
My display/screen is becoming brighter and brighter at the left and right edges.
If i look at a black screen, the left/right edges are not black but getting brighter than the rest of the screen.
As this computer is primarily for serious photo processing, this is really annoying and if it gets worse its a computer who cant be used at all.
Any ideas ? Any trips/trix to conquer the problem....or are the display pure and simply defect (great...just outside 2 years complaint period)

Hello Dominic,
It is not normal.
Sometimes my windows are rounded the way yours are and sometimes they are not.

  • Display resolution is different left and right sides

Hi, my HP G42 laptop now has a different display resolution on the left and right sides. The left half seems to have less resolution than the right side, the right side looks like it's in HD, the left side looks washed out. I'm not sure if it is a hardware issue or a setting/software issue. The first time it appeared was after a windows 7 update was completed and installed, I'm not sure if that was just a coincidence. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. It works but is very annoying to look at.
    Thank you,
    Ray

    Hi Ray_M,
Welcome to the HP Forums! I see that you are having a problem with two different resolutions on each half of your screen. The easiest way to determine where the problem lies is to connect it to an external monitor. If the image is normal then we know it is an issue with the display screen but if the issue occurs on the external monitor then we know it is a problem with the drivers or the video card itself.
What is the product number for your g42? There are a number of different models in that series.

  • Brightness different on left- and right-hand sides

My iBook's display has suddenly gone darker/dimmer on my left-hand side. I can tell because it's noticeably dimmer, and when I drag a photo from left to right, the photo's brightness noticeably changes. Any ideas as to possible cause? (I guess I'll be visiting the store tomorrow; sigh.)

My iBook is the same, and its only 3 weeks old! But
its such a slight difference i dont really care. Im
gonna wait 11 months before my warrenty expires then
    replace it.. lol
I have a theory for what causes this though. When
your iBook heats up, its mostly on the left side.
Then when you close your iBook the lcd basically
cooks over that side. Cause its ALWAYS the left side
that is darker, so there must be something happening
to that side that isnt happening on the right. The
heat from the warm hard drive is all i can think
    of.

of a big fat iPod! =D
At 30-40 percent, it wasn't slight enough a difference. It really did give me a headache.
Interesting theory. I usually put the thing to sleep with the LCD up, so I don't think it applies in my case.

  • IMac display jumps 1 pixel left and right

Has anyone ever heard of this before, it seems crazy to me.
My iMac display started acting up two days ago.
When the cursor crosses the screen from side to side, the screen jumps 1 pixel to one side!
Specifically, moving the cursor from left to right, the screen jumps 1 pixel left (as if it is panning over to that side) and and the reverse for the reverse direction.
The 'extra' column of pixels appears normal (ie not simply black).
The picture is a little fuzzy.
At lower resolutions, the screen looks terribly fuzzy like the anti-aliasing has become overactive (maybe this is a known issue for this video card) but doesn't jump.
I've repaired permissions, rebuilt things, etc (using Onyx and also applejack) but no change.
After my previous mac died prematurely I was sure to get Applecare for this iMac and need to take it back anyway (the dvd-burner has predictably failed) but I I was surprised I'd never heard of my pixel jumping problem before.

More than likely somehow 'Zoom' got turned on.
To disable Zoom, open System Preferences->Universal Access preference pane and disable Zoom.

  • Display screen shifts to left and right

Hi, The display on my new iMac will occasionally shift about 1 to 2 inches to the left or to the right.  It will hold that position for several seconds.  During this time the system is unresponsive to the keyboard or mouse entries.  If the screen first shifted left it will then shift right, still off center but in the other direction. The screen will then re-center itself and responsiveness returns.  This may occur 4 or 5 times during the course of an evening.  The problem was worse when I primarily used Safari as the browser.  It happens less with Foxfire.
    Suggestions or answers?
    Thanks,
    Fred

Unfortunately I was never able to figure out what it was that caused this!  After several visits and several repairs and several escalations up the ladder - I finally got someone to authorize an exchange.  They could not reproduce it on my computer either, but after extensive questioning, it turns out they do not actually sit at the machine and use it, they just run diagnostic software on it that is supposed to catch things like that, but clearly it does not catch this.
Overall though, this is a glitch that apple has not yet identified as a problem and in my experience, person after person will tell you they have never heard of it (or worse, act as if you are making this up).  My experiences with this problem and apple's response (or lack thereof) has actually caused me to switch back to a PC after seven years as a die hard apple fan. That  being said, Matt was extremely helpful and didnt act as if I was insane, so he may be able to be of help to you as well.

  • Windows bottom corner left and right edges are not rounded

    Hello,
I have an issue with my macbook pro retina 13inch.
The left and right bottom corner are not rounded like they are supposed to be, I can see the pixel.
They do not always appear so it is not a display problem (dead pixel) but a software problem.
For example with full screen mode in safari sometimes they appear sometiems they do not.
A clean install of my mac did not solve the issues.
Here is a picture to explain the issues :

  • Remove left and right margin when display portlets

What is the best way to remove the left and right margin when display portlets?
    I found a file called \portalpages\dotnet\prod\src\com\plumtree\portalpages\browsing\myportal\/
    MyPortalContentView.cs
But I do not see a place for the left and right margins. What is the correct place to modify these margins? (How about the top and bottom margins too?)
    See the green highlight?

That's it yeah, seems to curve upwards at the sides. Dunno whether leaving a heavy book on it might sway it back into position?!
I had the display upgraded when I bought it so presumed it could have been done whilst 'in operation'. Apart from that there's nothing wrong with it really, doubt it's something they would take it back on anyway.

  • Thunderbolt has 2" blank border on the left and right edges.

When I connect my Macbook Pro 13" to my Thunderbolt display, the screen display has a 2" border on the left and right edge.  How do I size the screen to fill up the entire display?

Hi. I had the same resolution problem as jmzmac...I turned off mirroring and my Thunderbolt display now just has the standard screen saver on it. If I click on System Preferences that window will show on the TBD and I can move my mouse across the two screens so I have an extended desktop but I really want mirroring with the correct resolution so there isn't that 2" space on either side of the screen. I tried the clamshell mode (closing the MacBook Pro, waiting a few seconds, pressing any key to wake it up) but nothing happens on the TBD. Any help would be greatly appreciated. (Running 10.6.8)

  • Clips import with black edges left and right

I viewed my clip (avi file) using quicktime to confirm that it was the right one that i wanted to import and it looked fine. Then i imported into imovie and it doesn't fit the whole screen. It's got about 1/8 inch of black along the left and right. The weird thing is that when i import photos it does the same thing but i scale them to 102 % to correct. How can I correct this?

bear in mind that tv broadcasts are often stretched/zoomed/cropped etc to make it appear that it is widescreen, when really it is 4:3.
also it is possible that your TV is simply stretching to make it fill your screen.
your TV may be able to stretch it to fill the screen, but the appletv will always output it in the correct aspect ratio.
also it is only recently that most of the tv output has been widescreen. 6 years ago when wire season 1 was produced, 4:3 non-widescreen was very much the norm, especially in USA.

  • How do I deal with audio, seperate left and right and make each stereo--CS5

I have a two mono mike recording which I can seperate into two seperate audio timeline tracks one is now left track in a seperate timline and the other is right in the other timeline, how do I make each of these tracks then into psuedo stereo tracks?  Do I have to go to Soundbooth or is there a simple way in Premiere?

Bill G, tell me what I am missing and I'll use your method.  I have what I think you are describing, and I don't understand the need to do anything special, if you use channel mapping.
I record a lav on one channel, and a different wireless mic on the other.  When captured, I have a clip that PR would normally treat as a single stereo track.
BEFORE putting any clips on the timeline, select all clips and set channel mapping.  Set each channel to mono.  Now PR treats these as two mono tracks.  The output for each mono is the master track, which in my project is stereo.  I can change "volume" for each track in the mixer, etc.  but each channel is provided to the left and right  master output.
I didn't go back to sort out what you had, but if you had two stereo tracks, one each with a left and right channel only, I can see that you needed some other solution.

  • Is there a way to tie to iPads together so that when you turn a page with a tap on one, both iPads turn a page.  I am using the ipad to replace piano sheet music.  The challenge is that ordinary sheet music is on both a left and right page.

We are trying to use an ipad to replace ordinary paper sheet music on a piano.  When truning ordinary paper pages, it is sometimes hard to grasp one page, turn it quickly and get it to stay turned.  The idea with using an ipad is that a tap turns the page, it stays turned.  However,,,,,ordinary sheet music is on both left and right pages.  With one turn you get 2 new pages.  The ipad, being smaller results in only one page and therefore twice as many page turn taps; more taps equals less hands on the piano.  If we could tie 2 ipads together and get them both to turn the page simultaneously it would be nice.  We are trying to get used to using the ipad.  We are using ForScore app to get sheet music into the ipad; we could load one with odd pages and one with even pages.  Maybe this is getting too complicated.
Anyway to tie 2 units together
    John

No way to control one device from the other.  But, according to ForScore, you should be able to display two sheets side by side in landscape mode (2-up view)?  Not sure if that helps as it must make the actual print smaller to do so.

I have a video I 'm editing and some of the shot taken (on the left and right) I would like to remove. Is this possible to do ? If so, how?

If you mean there are parts of the picture at the sides you want to remove, you have at least 2 choices.
You can mask the edges of the frame or enlarge it so that the left and right sides are outside the picture area.
The latter suggestion will reduce the quality of the video and you will also lose an equal amount from the topand bottom, though you could slide the image up or down.

  • Dead Space on left and right side

Is there any way to get rid of the dead space on the left and right hand sides? Thanks.

    Hi there,
you can't completely get rid of the dead-space on the left and on the right. But you can increase the content width thus reducing the dead space.
Select the page in iWeb, Open the Inspector, Go to the Page tab (second from the left) and select Layout, increase the number displaying under Content width (everything up to 950 should be alright but note that for some templates it doesn't work so good 'cause they weren't built to be increased... I hope they change that somewhen...)

  • CM2320 unwanted black fading borders left and right

    Hello,
I have a CM2320. When printing I get about 2-3cm wide of unwanted toner at the left and right edges.
At the edges it is pretty black and it is fading to the center of the page.
I ran the cleaning routine. The reference page printed after this is perfectly fine. Then when I print another page from software the problem is back.
Can anybody tell me what is likely causing this problem?
I was thinking about replacing the toners, but as these are rather costly it would be really nice to know in advance if this will have any effect, and if this problem can be solved at all.
Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Why Left and Right Joins if only one of them can serve the same purpose?

I understand that left join is used to display all the records from left table whereas the right join is used to display all the records from right table in a join.
However, if we switch the positions of the join tables and perform left join we can get all the records of the left table.
A left join B -> will give all records from A
A right join B ->will give all records from B
B left join A -> will again give all records from B.
The order in which the data is displayed(ie the field order) can also be maintained in the SELECT clause.
So, Why do we have left and right joins separately in existance, when only one of them can serve the same purpose?

    Hi,
I think it's because it is sometime more natural to outer join on left or right.
In your data model (or the query you are writing), there is some kind of hierarchy between tables : I feel more natural to have the table with lowest hierarchical level (the root table) on the left. So I sometimes prefer to right outer join...
This is a very personal feeling, I must admit.
To me what is strange is to have chosen left and right as they refer to a "latin" reading direction => forward join and backward join would be more meaningful for people that read from right to left.
+And I prefer the new joining syntax that doesn't us the {noformat}(+){noformat} sign...+
