LED tv and glare

I just purchased an LED tv and we placed it directly across from a picture window.  Needless to say, there is tons of glare.  Would I have the same problem with an LCD or are they much better for glare?

Your TV IS an LCD. The technology in this particular set lends itself to reflection, similar to that of a plasma.
You can get an LCD with a non gloss coating, but they typically do not look as good.

PowerBook G4 - Won't Start Up - 3 Strange Beeps then just LED flashes and sudden death - black screen.
Prior that the powerbook also couldn't start but I could see the Apple logo, so via fire-wire (holding T at start up) I backed up the hard disk.
Check via DiskToolPro the structure, defragmented. Via DiskWarrior rebuild the directory
and finally not been able to access the drive I reformatted the drive via fire-wire drive.
Re-started the powerbook holding C to boot up from DVD - nothing
Re-started again and it give me one long beep and black screen. An indication that my 1gig RAM is bad or gone (?) and the DVD is stuck inside.
Bought new one 1 gig, installed it and now I'm getting only three beeps.
I tried all, changed the slots several times and nothing.
    I tried more as:
c -- to boot from CD (again while the DVD is still inside and I cannot get it out)
cmd-opt-p-r -- to Zap the PRAM,
cmd-opt-n-v -- to clear NV RAM,
cmd-opt-o-f -- to boot into open firmware … and nothing. The DVD is in and I have
black screen with three beeps and flashing LED.
Do I have to replace the Logic Board?   (Anyone has a spare one ?)
But it is the faulty Logic board?
Could anyone help me out? Please.
I'm retired and I cannot afford a new laptop - and this powerbook was a great, great horse for me until that horrible set of three beeps.
Thank you in advance for any advice and help.

But it is the faulty Logic board?
There was a known issue with LBs in 15-inch PowerBooks with 1.5 and 1.67Ghz processors in which one RAM slot would fail. There once was a repair extension program that fixed the problem at no cost, but it is long-expired.
The problem with seeking a used logic board for these models is that so many had their boards replaced that it increases the chances of the boards in the used/pulled markets having the same problem you have now. The replacement program also came close to exhausting the supply of new boards,
If it turns out to be a bad LB and you can't find a replacement, consider how used computer pricing works: A used computer is worth hugely more in parts than if bought as a working unit. I.E, you can probably find a working PowerBook that will cost less than the logic bard alone. It also possible to find a used MacBook Pro for less that a replacement LB.
If you tell us your approximate geographic location, we can see what's available nearby. I'm also retired, and and visiting my wife's family this week so have even more time than usual to help you search.

  • Cisco 1131AG LWAP status led yellow and other leds blinking green

I have a problem with three AIR-LAP1131AG-E-K9  that joined the controller and the status led turns to yellow after joining the controller while other LEDs are blinking green.
The APs has no coverage at all although the WCS shows that there is coverage and the 4400WLC shows that the AP interfaces are UP. (The ethernet interface and tha 802.11b,g radio interface is up).
    The SSID broadcast is enabled.
On the switch the interface is up and there is traffic going in and out of the LAP.
I tired power reset and factory reset for the APs but the problem remains the same.
Any ideas for what might be the problem ?!!
    Regards

Yes the clients are not able to see the SSID broadcasted by the AP.
But these APs were functioning normally before without any changes to the WLC config.
I had the same problem with other APs but they went back to normal state after a hardware reset to the APs.

  • Cinema LED 24" and Cintiq pen tablet same time connection???

Does anybody tryed to connect LED sinema display (via mini-display port and one USB), and active graphic pen tablet (Wacom Cintiq) as second display simultaneously?? Both devices required DVI or mini-display, how to separate a data signal to different monitors?? My application - retouch in Photoshop CS4, thanks in advance!

For what you want to do, it is not possible through one mini-display/dvi port as the graphics card can only handle 1 output at a time. Check out this little device. It'll turn one usb port into an average quality video output. I have my second Cinema display running off one of these. I wouldn't recommend playing games or anything on these though because the output frame rate is much too low. Check it out.

  • 27 LED monitor and older Mac Pro compatability

Will the new monitor work with older Mac Pro's?

Why does the Apple store list the ATI Radeon HD 4870 Graphics Upgrade Kit for Mac Pro as only the Early 2008 & Early 2009 models?
Only Apple knows, but the comments section, and many posts here, show it works in any Mac Pro/
I'd like to use the new 27" LED with my original 2006 Mac Pro 1,1. I currently have the NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT.
You can use it with the dual-link DVI port (only one port is dual-link) on the NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT with a converter

There are reports that it also will work in any Mac Pro.

  • Question re: 1920x1200 RGB LED Display and the Macbook Pros LED display.

My question to the Apple guys here is. What type of LED technology is used in the MacBook Pro's LED display?
I just did a side by side with my buddies new 15" MBP and my new DELL Studio 1737 which has a 1920x1200 which has RGB LED display. I had it second day air FEdEx shipped because I was dying to see this new tech.
And did it blow us away, supposedly since its this new RGB LED it displays something around 98% or 110% of the NTSC color gamut very accurate for graphics and photo work.
My buddy almost dropped when we saw the color accuracy and differences with the MBP. And why hasn't Apple adopted this superior technology?

What do you mean they don't have LED its right on the main page.
Read it carefully, it says "Ultrathin 15-inch LED-backlit display." The "LED-backlit display" part means that the backlighting is LED (as opposed to fluorescent), not the display panel itself (which is LCD).
...Dell has the RGB LED backlighting....
The Dell display you referred to is an RGB LED display, it doesn't have (or need) backlighting. It uses red, green and blue light emitting diodes to produce images, as opposed to a liquid crystal display, which uses color filtered backlighting to produce images.
its confusing why Apple has not adopted this new tech to its high end $3,000 MBP 17 models.
Yet. The 17" MBPs are reportedly due for a significant hardware revision next month. In any case, RGB LED displays have their own performance issues when compared to LCD displays, so don't get too excited, and they may not be thin enough to fit Apple's ultrathin design philosophy.
I have no idea what RGB LED was it just seemed better, and boy did it pay off.
I'm sure you'll have loads of fun with Windows Vista.

  • W520 LED backlight and LCD quality

First of all, thinkpads are the best notebooks, really. But please, stop using pulse-width modulation to dim brightness of LED-backlit screens, it's flickers when using screen at any brightness other than full. It's really eye-straining!
Another issue is TN LCD in such a hi-end thinkpad as W520 (yes, I mean that 95% gamut full HD display, and, yes, even after calibration), it's not bad comparing to other thinkpad LCDs, but please use IPS LCDs for high-end models. Guys, thinkpad LCD are the worst part of thinkpad, if you thing "it's business product, not consumer one, LCDs are fine", you are wrong, business models need professional screens as well.

Here you go, enjoy! These were made with a Spyder3 and dispcalGUI. I've also used ColorEyes Display Pro and it gives very similar results, but the consistency in the dark gray tones is not as good.
Some important info about these profiles: the first link is a very precise LUT-based profile combined with an inverted matrix-based profile. I'd recommend most of you don't use this profile unless you understand color management. If you use this profile with a program that does not support XYZ-LUT profiles, then it will show the colors as inverted (ex. Windows Photo Viewer). The is done intentionally because it lets you know it's not using the more-accurate LUT-based profile and is instead using the less-accurate matrix based profile (which is the color-inverted profile). However, using this profile with a truly color-managed app like Photoshop or Lightroom will yield very, very nice results. White point 6500K/D65, gamma 2.2.
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/hmdbau8c32y5yt9/dispcalGUI%20ThinkPad%20Display%201920%202012-04-30%20D650...
This second profile will work acceptably with most programs. It's not quite as extremely accurate as the first, but still very good. The gamma curve for this profile is L* instead of 2.2, which I prefer for most normal use, because it lessens the "black crush" at the bottom of the gamma curve and makes shadow details more visible. White point, again, is 6500K/D65.
    https://www.dropbox.com/s/ruyk59sqdu7orbe/dispcalGUI%20ThinkPad%20Display%201920%202012-04-30%20D650...
If you don't know how to have Windows load these for you:
-First, copy the profiles to C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color (this is where Windows stores color profiles for devices). Or, you can simply right-click on the files and select "Install Profile"... but we're not done yet.
-Next, go to Control Panel > Color Management
-Make sure at the top, next to Device, it says "Display: 1. ThinkPad ..."
-Put a check mark in the box that says "Use my settings for this device"
-In the box under "Profiles associated with this device," you may or may not see the profiles I gave you (they start with "dispcalGUI Thinkpad Display ...") If they are not listed, click "Add..." and select them from the list, click Ok.
-Now, find the one you want to use (for most I'd recommend "dispcalGUI ThinkPad... HQ 3xCurve+MTX"), click on it to highlight it, then click "Set as Default Profile"
-Now, click the "Advanced" tab at the top, and down at the bottom, click "Change system defaults..." In the new window that pops up, click the Advanced tab again (Don't change anything else!)
-Put a check in the box that says "Use Windows display calibration," click "Reload current calibrations" and then click close on all the windows
You should have seen the screen change slightly, and the display profile is now loaded. Windows will now load it automatically on its own.
One last important bit of advice:  one of the Intel processes that runs on the W520 will un-load the display calibrations whenever the screen darkens for a Windows UAC prompt, or after coming back from sleep. Instructions for fixing that are here: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/W-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/w520-color-calibration-issue/td-p/728457
EDIT:  forgot to add, one last thing, this is very important:  go to start, type in msconfig, click the "Startup" tab, and UN-CHECK "X-RITE Legacy Device," "CalibrationLoader5.0," AND "Color Calibrator Tray." Click apply, then ok. These are the processes associated with the built-in color sensor, if you have it, and they may interfere with Windows loading the profiles.

  • Mac Mini LED blinks and shuts down at startup, takes 2-3 tries to boot...

I have a Mac Mini PPC 1.42GHz. When i boot it up after non-use (cold), the LED blinks once per second and it boots all the way into MacOS and shuts down several seconds later. It will usually do the same thing the second time around. On third boot its usually fine. Not thinking its related, I have reinstalled MacOS anyways. No good...
    Thanks,
    Rich

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
The flashing LED is usually indicative of a power-on self test failure, normally leading to the system failing to boot at all. Once per second would indicate the system fails to recognize available RAM.
The fact this happens when the system is cold (with an implication that it doesn't happen when the system is warm) might indicate the RAM module is no longer firmly inserted, or that the contact face on the pins has oxidized slightly. In this situation, I'd begin by opening the system and removing and then reseating the RAM - in the G4 minis this is relatively easy since there is only one RAM slot, and it is exposed with just the top of the casing removed.

  • IPhone 4 warranty/LED flash and low in-call volume

I just got an iPhone 4 8gb, my boyfriend bought it for me from his roommate. I checked on Apple Support and entered my serial number and evidently the phone is still covered by warranty.
I noticed that during a phone call I cannot hardly hear the other person speaking. I tried EVERYTHING, hard reset, resetting everything, I made sure to have the in-call volume all the way up.. nothing. Also, the LED flash on the camera does not work. I did not notice this until I tried to take a picture in the dark. I turned on the flash, tried it in video, downloaded iTorch and it worked on and off a few times but it is very random. Whenever I place my finger over the sensor it will come on, but turns off immediately when I take my finger away.
Since the warranty is still valid, am I eligible to have this taken care of even though I didn't purchase the iPhone directly?

Okay so bringing it into the apple store, I can get it fixed. But what about the registration? The previous owner is military stationed overseas and the phone is still registered in his name, he couldn't use it over there which is why he sold it to me.. but its not like I can bring him along with me in the store when I go to get the phone repaired.

  • Tecra 9000 - LED flashes and cannot boot

I was recently given an old Tecra 9000 laptop. Unfortunately, it did not have a HDD (it was removed and trashed by the previous owner).
I have bought a couple of HDDs that I thought should work in this machine, but all that seems to happen is the power light flashes seven times, pauses, then flashes once (and then repeats this.
I assume this is an error code of some kind.
The drives I have tried are a MK4025GAS and a MK4026GAX. The result is the same on both.
Can someone advise as to what this error means, or even tell me the part number of a drive that will work with this machine?
    Many thanks.

    Hi Guy
One question; did you try to power up the notebook without inserting the HDD?
Usually if the notebook is ok it should be possible to start the notebook. Of course the notebook will not load the Windows OS because the HDD is missing but it should be able to start and the LED should not flash!!!
But if the LED flashes this means that the fault was detected on the motherboard and the LED lamp sends a blinking code.
The short blinking means 0 and the long blinking means 1
Error code starts with LSB (least significant bit)
    for example:
    0000 0001 -> 1000 0000
This code you have to transform in hex and you will get the error code.
But in my opinion nobody will give you an answer what it means.
Every notebook series porvides own error code...

  • Strange led behavior and more in 5800

After some time of normal behavior, green and red leds stay "on" even in locked mode. After some time the phone shuts down; battery apparently isn't low at the moment of shutdown, but I have to recharge in order to turn it on. The 5800 is 14 months old and firmware is 50.0.05, I can't upgrade because 51.0.0.6 isn't available for my code.
    Some suggestions?
    Thanks

@ phonehacker, that is no excuse for your laziness, a reset should always be a last resort, not a quick fix. We have too many users here already that spam lazy answers, we don't need a "guru" doing it too.
@giiovalazz - This is certainly odd behaviour. If you try to use the phone in a completely dark rook do the lights behave as normal? Are you 100% certain that your protector isn't covering the proximity sensor?
A less aggressive reset method that you could try is dialling *#7780# (like a phone number). This will reset your settings (and can fix some odd behaviour) without removing your data or apps. It's always wise to backup just in case though. Be sure to test the phone before restoring any backups.

  • BlackBerry Curve 8330 won't boot, LED blinks and hourglass spins

I bought this pink BlackBerry Curve 8330 in December of 2008. It has worked perfectly since and I've never gotten it wet. It's been dropped 4-5 times, but never from more than 3 feet.
This afternoon, in the middle of writing a text, it suddenly powered off and the red LED light came on like it does when it is turning back on. It went off, the screen stayed black, then a few seconds later the screen turned on with an hourglass spinning for about five seconds, then the light turns off and everything goes black again for a few seconds, then the LED light comes on again and the cycle is repeated. It did this five times before I had to put it away as we drove home. When I got home, it had finally booted the whole way, but the battery was so low the radio was off, so I plugged it into the USB charger on my desktop computer.
When I came back later, the phone had stopped charging and was on a black screen with the LED light on, just like earlier. It went through this cycle a few times.
I pulled the battery and put it back in, same thing happened. Black screen, white screen with hourglass, black screen.
I plugged it back into the USB charger and as I type this, the little psycho has booted completely and it shows that it is charging.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Please try this sequence...note that, throughout the entire 4h15m process, your BB must remain connected to a known-good wall charger (not PC USB):
With the battery inside, connect your BB to the wall charger
Leave it alone for 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
    Remove the battery
    Wait 15 minutes
    Insert the battery
Wait another 2 hours, no matter what the LED or the display does
This has been known to "kick start" some BBs.
It is also possible that your battery or BB has experienced a problem...to test, this sequence is needed:
Obtain a known good and already fully charged additional battery...use it in your BB and see what happens
Obtain access to a known good and identical BB...use your battery in it and see what happens
The results of this will indicate if it's your BB or your battery that has the problem.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Apple TV 2 Updated and now LED flashes and no Video, Audiio or UI!  HELP!!

I just sat down in front of my TV and was greeted by my Apple TV 2 with a request to upgrade the device. I did and waited patiently for the update to download and install making sure NOT to unplug the device during the process.
Now that the process is over, NOTHING is happening. The unit's LED just flashes... That's it!
No video, No Audio, No UI.... NOTHING.
The only sign of life is that the LED stops blinking when the Remote's buttons are pushed, but that's it!
Am I the only unlucky one here? Or is anyone else having this trouble?

I believe there's some kind of sleep problem with my RAID array going on here. I had to switch the RAID array to the Firewire connection because Lion didn't like my eSata card. Now accessing media on the RAID array seems to be something that takes time to "wake up" the array, though I don't have any sleep modes enabled.
