Left 4 Dead 2 with Bootcamp on iMac i7?

Anybody done a bootcamp install to play Left 4 Dead 2? Any benchmarks/framerates/experience you'd be willing to share?

I have run L4D2 on my imac with bootcamp. It really ran great I played L4D 1 all of time it looked great ran great. Steam updated something and L4D2 stopped working for a lot of people, hopefully they'll patch it soon. But it plays great sounds awesome. I dig it.

Yes, you can. The type of storage on which you install is not relevant, as long as it is connected to an 'internal' storage control. Windows licensing restricts its installation on external/portable disks. Windows-to-go is the only legal means to do that.

This is an old problem I once ran into, but it's completely unrelated to SP1 which is the purpose of this thread.

One person had iffy 3rd RAM.
You updated AMD graphic driver too to 11.8+ right? not just Apple's.
Plenty of free space for Windows to play with.
    Do a chkdsk
Boot from Windows DVD and run memtest and also do system check
Restore points are better used, and image Windows
    Rollback drivers works well, too
Some had trouble after NetFrame 4? update in Windows (but not on my 3 computers)
Apple drivers can be iffy and buggy
AppleHFS.sys has been known to be trouble. HFS allows for filenames that NTFS won't.
Paragon has HFS9.x driver that adds write support and does a better job
BC 4.x is still it seems trouble for more than a few (but obviouslly not in the 10s of thousands)

  • Can't partition HD with Bootcamp Assistant on brand new iMac

I just got a 27" 1TB brand new iMac three days ago. After copying over all my files from my previous computer (PC), installing some software packages and configured the Mac the way I want it, yesterday I wanted to partition 80GB out of remaining 330GB with bootcamp assistant to install Windows 7. After one hour it stopped with an error message that it wasn't able to move some files and I would need to re-format the HD and start again.
Is there really no other way? It took me two days to get to where I am.

It should only take less than a minute.
So just use OS X software to clone what you have to another hard drive, then do an erase and restore.
And backup before starting is at the top of the list of things to do to prepare.
http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp - re-read the pdf guide linked at the top and other tech articles.
And you really do want bootable clone image of Mac OS anyway, in addition to or in place of TimeMachine, so no loss in doing so. It isn't as if you will lose or have to redo.
It needed contiguous free space and no files at the end of the disk. But installers and updates do scatter files and fragment free space a lot and can leave files locked where they can't be moved.
    SuperDuper
    Carbon Copy Cloner
    iDefrag
    iPartition
    Apple Disk Utility Restore
And you can have OS X on multiple hard drives, plus it really helps for doing the type of maintenance and repairs needed for updates and proper running.

  • Locks up on google, yahoo mail, running windows 7 on imac with bootcamp

I'm running windows 7 on an imac with bootcamp. When I go to google or yahoo mail, I never seem to land. It seems to lock up. The links aren't active nor are the back buttons. When I close it, out it doesn't shut down, so I have to shut it down in task manager.

    You can
    Select CD-ROM Boot prompt
You just can't boot from the DVD without extra steps.
Apple uses UEFI on those Macs that are "blessed" as being compatible, and yours and mine have older 2005 era EFI32 that won't.
We also are stuck with 1.9GB usable RAM in 32-bit Vista/7 also, another blow.
And no firmware update to Unified EFI 2.x to make us "compatible." Has not stopped 1000s from doing so though.

  • Can I install Windows 7 (32/64 bit) with bootcamp 3 on an iMac 11,3 (mid 2010)

My cousin has an iMac Mid 2010 (11,3) and installed Windows 7 (32bit) on a Bootcamp Partition (NTFS) with 100GB.
But after trying to boot with windows, the boot stops and Mac OS comes to front......

  • I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 with bootcamp 3.3 on my Imac 2011. I need to updgrade to mountain lion. If I first upgrade to mountain lion, how do I go about upgrading from bootcamp 3.3 to latest bootcamp for mountain lion?

I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 with bootcamp 3.3 on my Imac 2011. I need to updgrade to mountain lion. If I first upgrade to mountain lion, how do I go about upgrading from bootcamp 3.3 to latest bootcamp for mountain lion?
I have seen a lot of discussions upgrading from Boot Camp 4 to 5 but no answers upgrading from boot camp 3.3 to 5. My worry is that if I upgrade from snow leopard to mountain lion, that my bootcamp partition will no longer be able to boot up. There seem to be a lot of threads suggesting problems that are possible. Has anyone gone through this upgrade with success?

Before doing any installation restart OSX from your 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD and use Disk Utility to Both Repair The Disk and Repair the Permissions of your Macintosh HD.
Next remove your Snow Leopard DVD and restart your iMac into OSX.
Update to the latest version of OS X Snow Leopard by clicking the Apple icon and choose Software Update to install Snow Leopard v10.6.8, the latest version.
Use Time Machine to make a Full Backup of your Macintosh HD.
Shut down and restart into Windows by holding the Option key at the chime and selecting Windows.
Now use Windows Backup to make a Full Image Backup of your Windows Installation to a removable drive.
Shut Down and Boot back into OSX.
Open the Mac App Store from your Dock to buy and download Mountain Lion. Then follow the onscreen instructions to install it.
Upgrading your OSX to 10.8 should not effect the Windows Partition at all since you are only upgrading the Mac side. You should not have to run the Boot Camp Assitant 5 Utility in OSX at all.
Your Boot Camp 3.3 Windows Support Drivers et. al only effect your Windows installation and should continue to run fine after upgrading.
Which version of Windows do you already have installed on the existing Boot Camp Partition?
Is it 32 bit or 64 bit?

  • Hi, can I install windows XP with bootcamp on my iMac which is now on Maverick? Please help.

Hello all, can I install windows XP with bootcamp on my iMac which is now on Maverick? Please advise. Thank you.

Install 7. Don't bother with applying drivers and such, just reboot again from DVD and install again, it will see the existing system and this time activation will be possible.
Vista is mess, takes longer etc. Hope you have SP1 version of 7. And for Vista, only SP2+ are even supported now, by MS.

  • Z6A Headset With Bootcamp On An iMac?

I am running Windows 7 on my mac with bootcamp for gaming. I am currently looking to buy a TurtleBeach Earforce Z6A. (http://www.turtlebeach.com/product-detail/pc-headsets/ear-force-z6a/44) I can tell that my iMac does not have the required ports for the headset to work as it needs four jacks for different surround sound capabilities so I have found a Sweex 7.1 External Sound Card (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sweex-7-1-External-Sound-Card/dp/B00265L1S2) and I beleive it has all the ports necessary for the headset to run but I do not want to spend a lot of money on this headset and be incapable of using it so if anyone could tell me if it would be possible to use the Sweex 7.1 External Sound Card to allow me to use the Z6A with my mac I would be exteremly greatful.
I have a cheap headset but am unable to get the microphone attatched to the headset to work with my computer using the line-in jack on the computer and the Sweex Sound Card. It may just be me not installing it correctly or I don't have the required drivers or external microphones simply do not work with my bootcamped iMac.
Any help would be appreiated. Thank you!

Sorry to say I think you would be sorely disappointed. For that kind of a game (I was a big user of FSX on my old PC) you need some serious CPU and GPU. An iMac is a great machine but it is NOT a gaming machine. It will play medium level games very nicely, but serious, hard-core games like FSX require a Mac Pro with all the RAM you can afford, and the best video card they offer. Even then, you will lose performance by playing the game on a Mac.
I ran FSX on a PC that had a Quad core extreme, 4GB of fast dual channel ram, and an 8800 Ultra, and I couldn't run the game at max. settings.

  • My new iMac cannot detect old MacBook Pro HDD (as external with bootcamp)

I just setup the brand new iMac 27. I hooked up the old HDD from my MacBook Pro (with bootcamp). I can only see the windows files but not the MAC files like iTunes, iPhoto, and etc. I initially thought maybe the OS so I plug in my wife's older version iMac and also seeing only the windows files. When I do the eject, it said there are 2 partitions and if I only want to eject one of them or both but then it shows only one drive.
Anyone knows how I can detect the MAC files so I can retrieve all my files back?

The HDD was still good. I used the Windows to read the Mac files and it read OK (need to install some 3rd party software). It didn't convert anything but only allow it to read the MAC files from Windows OS. But when I connect to the MAC OS, it won't see it!

  • Does a new 3TB iMac (August 2014) work with bootcamp?

I have ordered a new iMac (August 2014) with a 3TB Serial ATA Drive. Have the issues with 3TB iMacs and bootcamp been resolved? Will i be able to partition my hard drive and install windows with bootcamp?
    Thanks

I want to make sure you understand what I want to do. I don't want to do an external install. I want to buy a MacBook or Macbook Pro and replace the hard drive with an Intel X25M 160GB solid state drive. Then I want to use bootcamp and install Windows XP. I will mostly use OSX but there are occasions where I need windows. Now because of the above linked review from Amazon this could be a problem with this drive?
    Thanks-Ray

  • IMac with bootcamp and parallel boots into windows 7 but won't boot intoxc lion.

IMac with bootcamp and parallel boots into windows 7 but won't boot into Mac OS lion?

    Hi,
Thanks for your suggestion. Actually that was not the problem, because I had the Mcintosh drive set as my boot drive. The answer was that my Lion Os got somehow corrupted and I had to reinstalll Lion. This was all after I discussed the situation with the Apple Support people.
