Left 4 Dead 2

I recently purchased a 13" MacBook Pro. It is the 2.53 Ghz with 4 GB of RAM. If I install Windows XP using Bootcamp, will I be able play Left 4 Dead 2 on it?

I don't have the same config as you do but I just loaded Win XP Pro and then Left 4 Dead this weekend. It really plays amazingly well on my machine. In fact I can't wait for L4D2 and Diablo 3 now!

  • Satellite L500-1ZC - Left 4 Dead 2 is lagging

Hi, I was wondering if anybody can help me fix my lag in Left 4 Dead 2.
I have an average fps of 10-20 on all maps. I run it on the lowest resolution, lowest settings and even tried using files that help with the lag. I do not have this problem on any of the other Steam games, only on Left 4 Dead 2.
    Can anybody suggest anything? Thanks.

    Hey,
You know that your model is only equipped with Intel graphic card?! I mean such Intel cards are not designed for gaming, they are only a good choice for Windows and mobile usage because they dont have much 3D performance
Everything what you can do is installing the latest display driver and using lowest graphic settings of your game. Furthermore you should choose the High Performance mode for playing games.
Unfortunately I think your graphic card is not powerful enough for this game :(
Check the requirements of your game!!!

  • Left 4 Dead 2 on MacBook Pro ?

Hey i'm planning to buy Left 4 Dead 2 on steam, and i have the 13 inch macbook pro,
    Here are my macbook's spec:
    Processor : 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory : 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    Startup Disk : Macintosh HD
Graphics : Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB
    Software : Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2
Can it run Left 4 Dead 2? Thanks

I don't know about the 13 inch model. That machine is known for having less-capable graphics hardware. Of course, L4D2 isn't exactly a cutting-edge game, either, and it's based on an engine that was used in older games as well. (Not that I mean that as an insult, I think that all of Valve's games based on that engine are great... the graphics are quite good, the physics are great and, most importantly, the gameplay is awesome.)
Here's what its system requirements are:
OS: MacOS X 10.6.4 or higher (Snow Leopard Graphics Update required)
Processor: Dual core Intel processor, 2GHz or better
Video Card: ATI Radeon 2400 or higher / NVIDIA 8600M or higher / Intel HD Graphics 3000
Not supported: OS X 10.5.x, ATI X1600 or X1900 graphics, NVIDIA GeForce 7 graphics or Intel graphics less than Intel HD 3000
That does seem to include your machine, so it may be worth a try.

  • Can my T61 run Left 4 Dead 2?

    Hi,
I want play Left 4 Dead 2 on this laptop. However, I'm kind of a novice at computers and stuff, so I don't know if my computer will be able to handle it.
Can someone please tell me if I can handle it?
    Thank you

As mentioned, we'd need to know not only the game specs, but your T61 specs too, but if you have a T61, not a T61p, then you have one of two graphic cards, either the Intel integrated grapics, which will NOT play this game, or the nVidia Quadro NVS140m discrete graphics, which "may" work. They say nVidia Gforce is supported, so it may or may not work. I would post in the games forum or contact their support and ask them. If you open device manager and look at your graphic adapters, it will tell you if you have Intel or nVidia.

  • Left 4 Dead 2 with Bootcamp on iMac i7?

Anybody done a bootcamp install to play Left 4 Dead 2? Any benchmarks/framerates/experience you'd be willing to share?

I have run L4D2 on my imac with bootcamp. It really ran great I played L4D 1 all of time it looked great ran great. Steam updated something and L4D2 stopped working for a lot of people, hopefully they'll patch it soon. But it plays great sounds awesome. I dig it.

  • New Left 4 Dead game server

As my Infinity broadband is so much better than when I was with Virgin I decided to run my own game server on my line.
I am now hosting a new 22 slot l4d game server, so if anyone here plays l4d give it a try.

Welcome to the forums!! Glad to have someone enthusiastic around!
And yes, you're in the right place to make gaming announcements. All we've been hearing about the last few weeks has been about the Sims 3 from Dorothy (she gets really excited about her games).
So, yeah, welcome again! Have fun checking out the forums!
Don't take what I say as being absolute. There's always room for improvement.

  • Is Mac Mini able to run Left 4 Dead well?

I'm considering getting a Mac Mini, which will be my first Mac computer, besides that one that's black and white and had the really fun painting application, beside the point though, looking to get a Mac Mini
I was going to get the less expensive of the two "basic" models and upgrade the RAM to 2 or 4 gigs, but a major concern for me is if it will be able to run a game like Left 4 Dead, or other games with similar requirements, I don't know why, but it seems to me the name just sounds like it's not very powerful... I went over the specs, but I don't know what's good anymore, especially not with video cards, last video card I had was a ATI 500 something or other, since then I've had the misfortune of working with laptops, and have never used a NVIDIA card before so don't know much about thier numbering scheme..
Anyway, sorry for the long winded post, I have a horrible tendency to do such things
edit just occured to me, this is in the wrong place, *wanders off to figure out where it needs to go*
Ok, new question, where the heck are the regular just... forum-y forums?

Wow, I'm so surprised that this is still on the front page AND has over a thousand views...
I suppose I'll give an update, considering I'm here..
I got the cheaper model, and it ran WoW well enough, 60 FPS in dead areas, 20 in Dalaran, unfortunately after a few addons/if I had ANYTHING running in the background, stuttering was very bad
As for L4D, there are times when I can tell it's having issues, but I was honestly having more problems with my internet connection not being up to snuff than the machine.
Last week I bought 4 gigs of ram, and upgraded it, I can now say that my mac mini is probably the ugliest Mac product ever, the bottom side of it has over a hundred scratches, leftover putty, and I'm pretty sure I messed up some of the pins (though, that could just be my imagination), if you can't handle a single scratch on your mini, I'd def get the pros to upgrade your ram
On the inside, the mini is really fantastic, the way they put all that in there, just amazing, pictures really don't do it justice, will say though, foam is magic for the small formfactor machines apparently, there was quite a bit of foam doing things such as reducing noise, vibration, and directing air flow. And those snap off connectors were awesome, I accidentally got the Airport's wire wrapped around something, and when I pulled the top part off, it actually pulled out, which led to several seconds of "omigawd what did I just do?!" then realizing it just pops back
I'm sorry, I just.... went off on a tangent there, but, haven't gotten a chance to try L4D yet, but now I get 60 FPS in Dalaran full of people, 30 FPS recording, but I that's what I capped it at, and this was in/around Dalaran as well, view distance 50%, Environment detail 100%, and I can listen to iTunes on the Mac Mini's speakers now, working slowly on upgrades for it, unfortunately due to various tech things dying on me it's slow going

  • Left 4 Dead on Windows 7 RC1

I know it's asking a lot but I'd like to see L4D work in Windows 7 RC1 in Boot Camp
I have RC1 fully patched and the Boot Camp 2.1 drivers for Vista 32 bit installed but my CD keeps getting rejected when I insert it in the drive.
    Thoughts? Lost cause?
    Regards,
    jmb

In the unlikely event that someone has a similar problem, here is the solution:
I was not a Steam expert going into this whole ordeal but a friend of mine dropped some knowledge on me...under My Games you can activate a Steam game online. I entered my valid serial number and the download of Left 4 Dead began without need for the CD
    Neat!

  • "Computer restarted because of a problem" crashes when playing Left 4 Dead 2 and Portal 2

My MacBook Pro 2011 keeps on crashing and restarting itself when playing 15 minutes or so of Portal 2 or Left 4 Dead 2 through Steam.
I get a warning saying something along the lines of "The computer restarted because of a problem etc..." and then the MBP boots back up.
I've verified and repaired the disk and its permissions and I reset the PRAM (as recommended in a couple of blogs I found).
I just loaded L4D2 up and 5 mins in the crash happens again. This time the system rebooted without the warning screen I mentioned before.
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening or how to prevent it? I can't seem to find any conversations directly related to Steam or the 2 Valve games causing this crash.
I used to run a Windows partition on the MBP through Bootcamp. That never had any issues running games but I recently removed it to free up some space.
I'll post my error report below in another post if that helps.
    Thanks!

  • Earphone input issue, left side dead

My left side audio just died on me.
Inserting the earphone only delivers right-side audio, the left side is dead! Tried various ear and head phones..same. Right side good..left side no sound. I can however ease it in about half way to get both sides to work, (the plug being a bit loose with this config).
Is the input broken? Anything I can do on my end? Thanks.

Nothing you can really do. You've tried different headsets just to see if the original ones were broken.
Sounds as though you'll need to send it in for repair.

  • Video Card issues in WinXP - Left 4 Dead

Just wanted to see if anyone was having issues like I'm seeing in these two pics.
This first pics shows what appear to be polygon regions appearing out of no where.
    http://i44.tinypic.com/2v146ep.jpg
And this 2nd pic shows spikes that appear mostly out of characters but on some objects as well.
    http://i44.tinypic.com/vqhafk.jpg
Usually when I start playing everything is fine but after a 20min or so they will start to appear. Changing some video settings in the game (such as anti-aliasing or resolution) will usually make them disappear for a few minutes but they will then re-appear. My best guess is that this is due to the video card overheating as it doesn't happen right away, but that's just a guess. I tried installing 'speedfan' to increase the fan speed but it does not seem able to control the speed on the video card.
Also, I only have the drivers that have come with the bootcamp installation. On the forums it seems that it is recommended not to install other versions of the drivers so I have not at this point.
I'm running bootcamp (windows xp 32bit) on my MacPro 10.5.5 / 4GB ram (quad core Xenon) with the ATI-X1900. I have the latest 2.1 bootcamp installed. The game runs perfectly beyond these issues, although I do get the occasional stutter or audio repeat.
I don't have any of these issues on TF2.
Does anyone have any suggestions on a possible solution? or does anyone know of a way to control the fan speeds in Windows? In OSX I use smcFanControl to keep the machine a little cooler.
PS. I also heard that some of the ATI-X1900 cards had issues. Can anyone confirm this? If this is the case, can anyone recommend another card for my MacPro? I do occasionally get video card issues in OSX too while doing 3d work.
    Thanks for any help!

Upon inspection of the card it is totally loaded with dust. I found this article:
    http://macsaregreat.com/?p=63
which has some pics and this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1265166&start=0&tstart=0
which discusses many issues as well with the X1900 and Leopard. I first started seeing issues with the card during my 3d work after I installed Leopard.
I'm off to the computer store to pick up some compressed air to try to clean that vent now. I already use smcFanControl already, before using it I was getting card errors every day.
Thanks again for the info regarding the dust on that card.

  • Airtunes, Airport express: left channel dead / noisy.

I'm using two Airport expresses in my house, to stream music. One of them has been out of use for a couple of weeks. Now, one of the channels of that device is not working when sound is streaming - no music or sound, just an "electric current" buzz.
It's the same no matter what amplifier or speaker system I use, and the other Airport express sends music through both channels on all equipment as it's supposed to. The same goes for headphones directly into the sound out line from the Airport express.
I've reset the device to factory settings several times.
Hardware malfunction I guess - or is there a way to fix this?

No real "user service" repair options on these devices. Based on your description, either the internal DAC or the analog portion of the audio jack may be faulty. To verify either, you could try using the Express' optical digital portion of the port, if you have an audio receiver that accepts this format by connecting the appropriate TOSlink cable. If the sound issues do not disappear, then the problem may be the power circuit in the unit.

  • [SOLVED] No output sound in "Left 4 Dead 2" when mumble is started

When I play L4D2 without mumble running I get sound but when I have mumble running I get no sound.
Mumble is configured to use pulseaudio, though I'm not sure about Steam -- pavucontrol reports it is using SDL and I thought that SDL now supported PA?
I've tried to launch steam with
    SDL_AUDIODRIVER=pulse
    and with
    SDL_AUDIODRIVER=pulseaudio
but it doesn't help. It seems like the issue is probably with PA, since I'm able to play sounds from audacious while using Steam.

It seems like mumble is pretty key, somehow. With just audacious playing I see:
    myhost% fuser -v /dev/snd/*
    USER PID ACCESS COMMAND
    /dev/snd/controlC0: myuser 7365 F.... pulseaudio
    /dev/snd/controlC1: myuser 7365 F.... pulseaudio
    /dev/snd/controlC2: myuser 7365 F.... pulseaudio
    /dev/snd/pcmC0D0p: myuser 7365 F...m pulseaudio
    With mumble running I see:
    myhost% fuser -v /dev/snd/*
    USER PID ACCESS COMMAND
    /dev/snd/controlC0: myuser 7365 F.... pulseaudio
    myuser 20153 F.... mumble
    /dev/snd/controlC1: myuser 7365 F.... pulseaudio
    /dev/snd/controlC2: myuser 7365 F.... pulseaudio
    /dev/snd/pcmC0D0p: myuser 20153 F...m mumble
    /dev/snd/pcmC2D0c: myuser 7365 F...m pulseaudio
    /dev/snd/timer: myuser 7365 f.... pulseaudio
    myuser 20153 f.... mumble
EDIT: sigh, I'm an idiot. I had input set to PA within mumble, but I had output set to alsa. Yep.
Thanks for your help. Hopefully you don't hurt yourself too bad when you bang your head against your desk after reading.
