Left Arch for oh... approx 2 days... Coming right back
I was tired of some sound issues (3 diff sound cards and alsa was being a dirty slut) on my Arch desktop and I never took the time to set up all the various media comforts other than XMMS etc...
I'd heard some good things about Mepis and I must say it's definitely what I'd recommend to a first timer... it's quite impressive as far as install and user friendlyness goes... but the minute you want to delve into the actual workings, well it disgusted the crap out of me.
Gentoo was the distro that made me learn suffice it to say I don't think I ever got into a working gentoo DE, just trying to install it over and over let me learn the basics like how to bring eth0 up and down etc... And then Arch was where I actually got productive...
The only thing I was trying to do in Mepis was prevent a few modules from being loaded... Dear freaking Linux deity... why does it have to be so damn involved to edit a system's init? And if I want to revert to default? Lord... I'm fairly proficient with the CLI, but this was just ridiculous considering that my Noodle 7.1 disc was conveniently within eyeshot the entire time.
To Arch's rc.conf: I love you, I miss you, I'm sorry...
To Pacman: I'm prepared for you to mess me up once every 6 months... Thanks for the rock solid performance the rest of the time...
I once hopped to Kanotix because all newer kernels on Arch couldn't get dhcp-offers anymore, what's really needed by me.
After a few weeks I messed up Kanotix (even if I really tried to solve all dependecy problems using aptitude) and reinstalled Arch - the dhcp-problem has been solved by the time. I'm really proud to say that my initial distro shuffle has found its end! Arch Linux just rocks!

Recently I put my 2009 macbook pro to sleep and the next day I came back to turn it on, it turned on for about 10 secs and then went right back to sleep. I've done all I can think of to get it to work but it just goes right back to sleep before I can do anything. Any suggestions??

hockYou can check if your Mac is set to sleep mode:
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Energy Saver.
Click Schedule.
You can set your Computer Sleep to Never
and your Display Sleep to Never -
I have a 2010 Macbook Pro and am a very new user to Mac community only started to use this PC a few weeks ago.
My Mac is just hanging and I am unable to shut it down or do anything at all. I left it for 2.5 days hoping the battery will run flat but it is not working. Pls help! I am desperate. TxIn order to resolve the issue if it occurs again, more info would be helpful as to what occurred prior to the "hang." One potential fix would be to try a Safe Boot:
After the Mac is completely shut down, push the power button and immediately after the startup tone, hold down the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
There should be a message that says "SafeBoot." After the Mac is completely booted, try restarting and see if the issue is gone. -
Hi, i have an iPad4 and for the last two days it has been stuck with the iCloud Backup pop up. I cant click on OK or turn it off. It has been connected to a wifi network and left locked and plugged in all day. Any one got any ideas please?
Reset it by holding the power and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then release.

I have a 16GB 3GS phone since about20 months now. For the last few days, my phone is constantly giving me message that the accessory attached to my phone is not optimized for this iphone. You may experience noise or poor communication, while there is no acessory attached to it. I always used standard headphones and charging cable. Now when i recall, it started at one of the sync sessions with my itunes. I have turned my phone off and aon again and again but the message keeps coming every one or two minutes.I have also started loosing voicce on different applications like youtube etc. Also the ringer volume up and down key does not show me the small boxes increasing or decreasing on screen. The phone is playing crazy. Can someone help please

ZiaIt helped earlier but it has come back again. I don't know what to do. I tried what you said earlier but this time even this is not working either. And quite intrestingly my phone won't turn off. I turn it off, it goes off and then restarts on its own and then keep giving the same message again and again.
Could it be a charging cable, is there any chance that the cable which was working fine one day could turn to be "incompatible" with iphone the other day????????

ITunes 10.2.1(1) runs slowly when left running for extended time
iTunes on my Mac runs slowly the longer it is left up. I have two AppleTV's (ver 2), and if iTunes has been up for more than a day, it can take minutes for the list of movies/tv shows to appear on the AppleTV. Likewise, iTunes itself becomes very sluggish, unable to access the iTunes store or sync ipod/iphones.
it was a plugin i had that was causeing it: DockArtPlugin.bundle

for the last several days I have experienced the dreaded wite screen of death upon power up of my 2008 Mac Pro 2.8,
Screen will hang white - no apple logo - when I hit the power button resart - the mac power light does not go out, but "clicks" and the mac will restart.
I get the white apple logo screen and then some terminal script (about 20-25 lines) that lasts for a dew seconds - then an apple message appears telling me that my computer needs to be restarted due to an error - press a key or wat.... this will cycle continuously.
If I power down and boot in safe mode - the computer seems to start up - with a crash log.
Once I restart from safe mode - the mac seems to start fine and I am using it without issue - (of course until I power down and come back in the studio the following day...)
I am not familiar with crash logs - but here are the two most recent...

Remove the third party uaudio and motu drivers then restart your Mac.
Once I restart from safe mode - the mac seems to start fine and I am using it without issue
Safe Mode only loads required kernel extensions which is why Safe Mode works, "without issue" ... -

Recently, I have upgraded to a new Canon Powershot G7, and with this almost DSLR-like camera, am finding that I am taking WAY more pictures, and getting better pictures too! The faster shutter speeds, and the excellent continuous modes on the G7 (and a 2 gig memory card) are meaning that even shooting my 13 month oldd son, I have way more images to look through.
My current workflow was simply import into iPhoto, basic edits w/ iPhoto, and use PSE 4 for more significant edits. I am trying the 30-day demo of Aperture, and so far, even though the UI is immense and somewhat intimdating, I am beginnng to learn the basics with various web resources, and Apple's Quicktime tutorials, and I like the robustness of the program as well.
My question(s) are as follows. I did the iPhoto import into Aperture, but now am not "thrilled" with my existing library structure in APerture, from this massive import.. Having the separate iPhoto Library folder in Aperture, and all the albums/rolls, just doesn't seem very well manageable. I ended up cancelling/deleting Previews, because of how long it was taking (10gig iPhoto import) I feel I just use "Projects" more, and then selectively set Previews for projects, and export to iPhoto or elsewhere. I guess I am asking for some advise from someone coming from iPhoto albums, who has not necessary used lots of metadata within iPhoto, rather just static albums. I pretty sure I want to use Aperture Library managed mode (not referenced) and am willing to export out of Aperture to iPhoto for the wife to use.
I am willing to redo the import selectively if I had some suggestions from you Aperture experts . Currently, I have been organizing pictures of my kid(s) by month (at least in his 1st year), and creating separate albums (in iPhoto) for special occasions. Maybe with the organization powers of Aperture, there is a better way..

How to check if a license exists for at least one day in each month for a given period ? Example : If we have a review period from Jan 25 2009 to Aug 15 2009. How to check if there is license for at lease one day in every month.

Welcome to the forum!
(1) construct a table or result set that has one row per month in the review period. [This thread|http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=3651350?] has a similar problem.
(2) outer-join your actual data to that result set
(3) use the aggreagate COUNT (x) function (where x is some column from your table) to see if there were any matches in each month. GROUP BY months.
For a more specific answser, ask a more specific question.
Post a little sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements), and the results you want from that data.
It never hurts to say what version of Oracle you're using.

Depreciation as per IT act India problem in asset acquisition for less then 180 days.

As requested by our client we need to configure depreciation as per IT act.We are using fiscal year variant K4(Oct to Sept) in our company code but as per specification from client we need to use fiscal year variant (April to March) for reporting purpose as per IT act.While posting for asset acquire for less then 180 days asset is not coming in display as per Indian Income tax report(J1IDISPBLK - Display Transaction Details at Asset Level).
We also try to use V3 (fiscal year variant as maintained for Indian IT act with period control "IT").But while putting V3(Fsv) for Depreciation area 15 (Financial Accounting (New) > Asset Accounting > Valuation > Fiscal Year > Fiscal Year Variants) got error that Fiscal year should be same as of company code.In this case we are not able to configure it.Kindly advice if anybody has configured this.Hi Sudheer,
This 180 days calculation can be done for Income tax depreciation if you provide the below details in the income tax related depreciation key
Base method: IND1
Declining Balance method: I01 to .... (whatever is available in F4 option based on rates you select)
Period control: IN1
Multi level method: M1 to M9 as provided by standard SAP
Class: 2 Declining balance depreciation
Change method: No automatic changeover
Multiple shift: 2 no effect on depreciation and useful life
Scrap value: 3 cut off value is ignored
shutdown: No
If you follow the above details in the depreciation key, then you will get that 180 days calculation. ie., from 1st april to 30th september if you capitalise any asset, your system will calculate full depreciation and from 1st october to 31st march if you capitalise any asset, you system will calculate 180 days depreciation.

i had to switch off yesterday to uninstall an annoying piece of software, but apprt from that i just leave it switched on all the time, as i know this is supposed to stabilise the line. As you are aware this is not the first time its happened. The first 18 months were great with no problems. then the powerline adapters needed replacing. Then all was ok for 5 or 6 months. Since then its been dropping low every 4 to 6 weeks.

FPM_LIST_UIBB labels coming Right Aligned even if -WDSTYLE_LABELALIGNMENT is set Left

The label of the overview page created for the service created using - FPM_LIST_UIBB is coming as Right aligned. I have set the Application Parameter - WDSTYLE_LABELALIGNMENT = LEFT . The Label have become left aligned for Detail page which are of type FPM_FORM_UIBB.
Any suggestion how to make the label left aligned .

AmolYour business requirement is to make fields shown in overview screen(FPM_LIST_UIBB) to be left aligned. In general, if we maintain WDSTYLE_LABELALIGNMENT=LEFT while launching HRESS_AC_PERSINFO application configuration then fields in detail screen(FPM_FORM_UIBB) maintained for FPM_FORM_UIBB becomes left aligned. In application HRESS_AC_PERSINFO for overview screen, we are using following : Component: FPM_LIST_UIBB Rendering style:Row Repeater When the fpm_list_uibb is rendered in mode "Rendering style:Row Repeater" then the UI elements are fixed and the layout cannot be influenced. We are aware of this restriction. Therefore there is a new fpm guibb in order to display a row repeater. The name of it is FPM_FORM_REPEATER_UIBB, but it is available only starting with sap_basis, 7.31, sp5.

I have been trying to download a movie for the pass three days and an error keeps occuring.

For my iPhone 4 I did try to download iOS4.3.5 666.6 MB after about a halfe hour and approx. 333.4 MB I saw the Network traffic has stopped and iTunes displayed the error message -3259
"There was a problem downloading the software for the iPhone.The network connection timed out. "
I already turned of the FIREWALL but that did't help. I assume that it isn't my network its probably the very slow server on the other end.

Hi guys, I recently got a new MacBook Pro with a USB Superdrive. A disc won't eject, does anyone know of a way to eject it? I'm in Morocco for the next 10 days so going to an Apple store is not possible. Any help would be gratefully received, thanks
Five ways to eject a stuck CD or DVD from the optical drive
Ejecting the stuck disc can usually be done in one of the following ways:
1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
left mouse button until the disc ejects.
2. Press the Eject button on your keyboard.
3. Click on the Eject button in the menubar.
4. Press COMMAND-E.
5. If none of the above work try this: Open the Terminal application in
your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following:

15 mth applecare left, what for ?
my Ipod 4th g clickwheel (no color) 20Gig did not fall. I found the screen broken (not the outside glass which has no visible impact , but the LCD screen with an extensive black spot on the left lower corner).
I bought it last december along with an applecare coverage.
I call applecare, they sent me an ups box and the Ipod went for a trip to the centralized European repair center last week.
I received it back today without repair, with a polite letter saying that it is not covered neither by the warranty nor the applecare, and that they won't even repair it "because of the prohibited cost of the repair".
Of course, because I found the screen broken when I took it from my bag (inside its leather protection skin), I cannot be 100% sure there was no injury to the Ipod outside of my view.
Now I have an "unusable" 4g Ipod (it still works as an external hard drive, and the music player is still good, but "random") , with a 15 month applecare coverage left...
What would you do yourself in this situation ?asked for the money back :
Ok they said, this will cost 25 Euros for opening the file, and the money back will calculated in deduction of the time since the date of purchase of the applecare : means, 10 months out 24. So from 65 Euros = 38 Euros - 25 Euros : 13 Euros (ridiculous)
No way to transfer the apple care to a new purchased ipod..
Remember, if you buy an applecare just before the one year warranty, you will pay full price (65 Euros). This may drive us to never buy an ipod apple care before the end of the warranty, or buy the applecare the day of the problem appears, except if this is a screen problem..

Why safari won't start in lion?
