Left click not responding

Hi, I'm new to this community... and I'm desperate to find out the solution to my problem.
My magic mouse and sometimes the trackpad on MacBook Pro dosn't work occationally.  Noticed usually when it's stated up or woke from sleep mode.
It's strange that only left click doesn't work.  I had to unplug eveything and restart few times then finally it works again.
Anyone having the same problem with your mouse or trackpad?
Regards,
Liz

I have the same system Liz and the pointer is definitely buggy with Mountain Lion.
I've had to reset the PRAM (⌘⌥PR Command-Option-P-R while restarting) when the cursor disappeared, but when Minecraft froze my system, it also broke my left click ability—it wasn't intermittent and nothing would fix it (repaired disk permissions, etc). As a shot in the dark, I turned off my magic mouse and connected my bluetooth trackpad that had been sitting around for a month or so. Violla! Everything worked. I suspect a corrupted driver or something.
If you don't have an Apple bluetooth trackpad to try this, maybe if you disconnect/reconnect your magic mouse somehow. Good luck...

  • 2008 Macbook pro left click not working properly after upgrading to 10.6.8

I have a 2008 Macbook pro and a few months ago after upgrading to 10.6.8 my left click has been wonky.
Using the trackpad the left click eventually gets "stuck" or stops responding and I have to push it multiple times before it does anything.  I have tried plugging in a mouse, but when I do so the mouse also behaves the same way.  The only way I seem to be able to get the clicking to work properly is to restart the computer with the mouse attached.
I have seen threads about trackpads being messed up by swollen batteries, but my battery is brand new and looks fine, and the clicking problem extends to an external mouse, so I believe it is something with the preferences.
I tried deleting  com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouchTrackpad.plist   and restarting and the problem seemed to be fixed, but then after about a half hour it returned.
Having to keep a mouse plugged into my macbook is driving me crazy, anyone know a solution?

I started having the same issue after update.  I'm on a MacBookpro running 10.7.2
ICalled apple and they did a remove battery reboot, a reload lion and a option/command/R/P reboot on startup and then the computer started working.  Two days later problem was back.  I then did a reboot and the computer was back to working.  Today the computer worked fine tell it went to sleep.  I had to do a hard reboot to get the Mac up and running and now no left click.  Please help. I can not use the Mac  with the trackpad, a mouse, a Bluetooth mouse, or a digital pad. All so signs of left mouse click not working.  One other item when you go to pick your user at startup the left mouse click works.  Help!

  • Ctrl and left click not working in DW CS5

When Im working in design view for some reason my links are not working when I press ctrl and left click. To make them work I have to right click and select follow link.
Its not a major problem because I can still carry on, but its annoying!

I presume you're talking about Live View, because links don't work in Design view.
One thing you can try is selecting View > Live View Options > Follow Links Continuously, or select the option from the Live View Options menu in the Browser Navigation toolbar.
It works only for the current tab, but is useful if you're following a lot of links.

  • Trackpad left click not working

    Hi
The left click on my trackpad, bluetooth or usb mouse is not working anymore.
    Macbook 2006 core2duo
    OSX 10.6.8 (snow leopard)
    I tried:
    - reset PRAM(apple+option+p+r)
    - without battery
    - boot in safe mode (shift)
    Without succes.
Also tried to disable The trackpad with:
    - defaults write com.apple.driver.AppleBluetoothMultitouch.trackpad USBMouseStopsTrackpad 1
But the trackpad is still enabled also after log out an in again.
The option in the "Universal Access" settings is not enabled as well.
How can I enable this option "ignore trackpad when mouse" without a mouse?
    Tab does not work.
Any other suggestions what I can try to fix?
ps. I was in the apple store and they want 100euros for sending it to the service center)

    also tried:
    - repair disk (diskutil repairPermissions disk0s2)

  • Spilled soda on laptop--right/left click not working

My 2 year old spilled soda on my HP G60 laptop last night. I immediately turn off computer and turned it upside down and cleaned it up. I booted up fine later on. Everything seemed fine until I realized my right/left click was not working. I can navigate fine with the touch pad but cant click on anything. Tapping method does not work either.

Make sure that  the pad is not turned off.
Are the lights on above the touchpad.???
Sorry just noticed that you can use the touch pad.

  • Left click not working

I'm having problems with the iMac.  My left-click won't work despite trying different peripherals (trackpad, USB mouse).  I have shut down, unplugged, restarted multiple times.  Occasionally it will then work, but always goes back to the problem within a few hours.  I have run an anti-viral program with no changes.  Is this something anyone else is having trouble with?  My OS is the most current version of Mavericks.

    Hi
You have a couple of options as I see it please find the Web link given below might help you to resolve the issue.
Using and Configuring the Touch Pad
Even after this is the Left click does not work you might have to get the part replaced.
If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the part replaced.
If you are out of warranty and would like a guide on replacing the part yourself, please let me know.
Let us know how it goes!

  • Left-clicking not working on iBook?

    Hi,
I want to give my old iBook G4 to my parents who presently don't have a computer. When I started it up, I noticed that left-clicking does not work. Right clicking, however, works fine. Even when I attach an external USB, only right-clicking works.
I'll be grateful for any suggestions. Thank you!

    Hi, thanks for the reply.
What I meant was that the iBook trackpad button does not work. HOWEVER, it does work when I control+click (i.e., right-clicking).
I already have the software on there for that external USB mouse which used to work fine, but now only right-clicking works on it.

  • MBP 2008 Click disabled on trackpad, left click not working on mightymouse & wacom pen tablet.

    Hello,
    i have a problem with a Macbook pro 2008.
The trackpad click button is not working anymore
(i've already tried to remove the battery underneath and push the wire that's connected to the pad,
    nothing changed).
I've managed to sync a mightymouse, left click is disabled as well
    (but not right click).
Then i've tried with a wacom tablet. Right click works, but not left.
(also tested switching buttons, yet no left click).
    In conclusion :
left click is not functionning with any of the peripherals,
left & right click  are disabled on the trackpad.
I've also tried "tap to click" without success.
Does someone have any idea of what is happening?
And how could a have the left click back?
    Regards
    F

Since you have a 2014 MBP, by definition it is in the 1 year warranty period.  Make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and have the technicians sort the unit out for you.
    Ciao.

  • Mac wireless mouse left click not working on macbook pro laptop

I think I found a couple of solutions, but they have been temporary,,,,would welcome more ideas.
it happens when I travel. when you switch Wifi connections in different locations.
all of a sudden the left click on the mouse stops working, and you can only right click.
these are the only things that have worked so far to correct the issue:
    rebooting (not always works)
hitting the escape key (worked at first)
making sure the mouse batteries are not low, and that no other track pads are interfering with it…(works sometimes)
the last fix was right clicking on the apple and putting it to sleep.  then return by hitting escape and the problem was fixed (at least for now)
this happens all the time now, especially when I switch wifis….
    c

Mystery solved! The one thing I did not try was to actually print... which works! Even while the Mac OS X W-Fi icon still shows the 'connecting' animation or the 'problem' exclamation mark.
Possibly Mac OS X just signals that the Wi-Fi does not connect to the internet or the likes. The Wi-Fi connection per se does work, also with password and with IPv6 enabled.

  • USB Mouse Left Click not working, DV6700

I have been using 2 hands to operate the simplist functions on my laptop.
I move the mouse around with my right hand but if I want to click something I have to use the left button under the mouse-pad.
HP support gave me a solution that worked for about an hour (Reset BIOS to default) .
The right click on the mouse (ANY USB mouse) works fine. Its just the select button.
    I hate this!
    HELP!!!

    To CLARIFY:
ANY USB Mouse that I plug into my (DV6700 HP Pavillion) Laptop--- the left click button doesnt work unless I hold it down for over a minute and move it around clicking on and off over and over. It can take 2 minutes before it actually clicks. So, I use the left button under the touch pad. That means its impossible to use this computer for games AND dragging and dropping is weird because I never got used to doing it with a touchpad.
I doubt I will ever buy another HP because of this. I HATE IT!!!
Other USB products act weird too.
I have also deleted all USB components in Control Panel and had windows reinstall them with the wizard.
It worked briefly (couple minutes) then was corrupted again.
Am I supposed to just throw this thing away?

  • Alt + Left-Click not saving

The Alt+Left-Click shortcut isn't working. It saves the image as "File *." The asterisks being the name of the image. When I try to open the image, it says no preview available.

If Firefox doesn't add a file extension then you need to add a valid image file extension (.jpg) yourself.

  • HT202731 mouse left click not working

Mouse not working properly.  Not sure if it is related to new operating system Yosemite that I downloaded but issue started after that.
Left mouse click either doesn't work at all, or starts working then grabs and won't release what I am clicking on.  Rt mouse click works ok.  Any others with this issue?  I have tried magic mouse and regular mouse, same issue.

If you go to System Preferences > Mouse & Keyboard and select the Mouse tab you'll see an option of the right side for the primary button. make sure the left is selected.

  • Bluetooth Mouse Clicks Not Responding.

I have charged my batteries they are 100%, the mouse moves around but clicks do nothing.  Went from intermittant to no click response now.
I've disconnected it, reconnected it, checked the batteries, checked my settings, restarted my iMac, looked in here for similar issues but none that have helped.
I do hope someone can help as I'm working on some images in photoshop and using my trackpad is just not as quick for me.
    Thanks in advance!

Wasn't entirely sure resetting the pram would help because  I use a trackpad and it responds fine to that. Went to the apple store and went through elimination and well looks like the sensor has given up which would make sense as it was intermittent before it died. Now £60 lighter but have a new mouse :( apparently it wa cheaper to buy a new one than fix it.

  • Click not responding, stuck in OSX Recovery mode.

My MacBook (13 inch, mid 2010) has been recently cleaned with a dry cloth, and ever since, it is unable to click on anything. I tried using a wired mouse, but it wil not click either. I reset the PRAM, but the non-clicking continued. I tried resetting it again, but I held down the wrong buttons and now I am in OSX Recovery mode. I can't get out of it, because I still cant click. Should I take it to an Apple store to be fixed, or is there an easier solution?

    For Mac computer
    1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
    2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
    3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
    4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
    5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
    6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
