Left click on the trackpad doesn't work properly

Since yesterday I'm having issues with my trackpad that are really annoying. First when you boot you can't select an account with the trackpad.
Usually it was select the account with a left click and type your password. Now nothing happens if you click and I have to use the arrow keys to select the account.
What is even more bothersome is the fact that I'm not able to mark anything for example to select and copy or move it. Like in this text, normally you do a left click with your trackpad select a sentence that you would like to copy or reference and then paste it.
Now when I tap with one finger to click and use the other to mark the text, the scroll bar on the right appears. Nothing else happens ...
Has Apple introduced a new gesture to mark and select things with a trackpad that I have missed ?

I can't explain why this works. Perhaps some amount of debris or dust has built up under there ? I went from not being able to click-drag without an excessive amount of pressure, back to a normal amount of pressure after doing this."

Does it means that I need to replace the screen? Or there is a other solution?

Basic troubleshooting steps clearly outlined in the User Guide are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new.
If you've gone through ALL the troubleshooting steps and you're still having the problem, then you most likely have a hardware issue and will need to bring your phone to Apple for evaluation.

The cable doesn't work properly when connected as data cable.

I have recently encountered problem of the cable. The thing is that if i use it just for charging with the plug, it works fine. But when i wanna use it with computer (i.e., accessing itunes, etc) or with my car, it doesn't work properly, it keeps switching between charging and discharging very fast. Just for all the people to know, I found out the solution. You have to mark the correct side of the charging cable which connects at inlet of the phone. Because this point acts as a chip when used as data cable or auxiliary use (car,etc). That's why it charges with the plug on any side. I don't know what's the frequency of it happening to iphone 5s users, because I bought it recently (iOS 7.1.1) Hope it helps to others in future.

My left and right click on the trackpad don't work.

From reading a number of the posts here, it would seem that trackpads not working is an issue that Apple may need to look into. I have personally resorted to using a mouse and the trackpad as a touchpad. For all the finger gestures, my trackpad works fine, but it doesn't respond at all to the left or right click options. It clicks audibly, but neither responds. There were some posts about playing around with a PRAM (whatever that may be), but surely there must be a more definitive solution. Does anyone know if this is an issue that is being addressed by Apple or does anyone know of a permanent solution? I don't mind continue to use the external mouse, but it seems a shame that the trackpad malfunctions and there is no apparent solution; that's unlike an Apple product. Your input would be appreciated.

Bought a new macbook pro and the click function on the trackpad doesn't work. causing me to be unable to complete the setup! Help

you have to push down on the trackpad (on the bottom half) not just tap it if you want that you have to turn it on prefences later.

I get a gray screen with the apple logo at start up and the trackpad doesn't work

My MacBook Pro has run fine until yesterday. It froze and wouldn't receive commands from the trackpad. I was still able to move the cursor but clicking or tapping the screen did nothing. I tried restarting but got the gray screen with the Apple logo and the spinning wheel. To get pass this I have tried resetting the NVRAM/PRAM and performing the safe boot. I also tried using the Disk Utility at start up but since I can't use the trackpad it was unsuccesful. I got pass the gray screen once performing the safe boot and restarted and everything run fine (including the trackpad) for about 20 minutes before freezing again. Now I'm back at the gray screen again and can't seem to get pass it again.
Any advice what should I do next?

I would back up the files and start looking at the HDD. Open DISK UTILITY>FIRSTAID.

CreateToolTip and MouseEvent.CLICK on the tooltip doesn't work

I didn't success to get an MouseEvent.CLICK working on a tooltip created with ToolTipManager.createToolTip.
Here is the code, no Alert is shown when i click on the tooltip :

Set mouseEnabled=true on the ToolTip. You might experience other side effects. Tooltips aren't necessarily designed for mouse interaction

MacBook Air (mid-2011) updated to EFI 2.9.1 - now password/trackpad doesn't work properly when trying to log in from sleep.

Hi, hopefully someone can help me with an issue I've had with my mid-2011 MacBook air.
It was running fine until I installed the 2.9.1 EFI update from the app store; I believe this fixes problems caused with the 2.9 update however since installing it I've now got a problem when trying to log in. This is what happens:
I close the lid or put it to sleep.
I open the lid and the login screen appears.
The trackpad is non-responsive and I am unable to enter my password as the keyboard is unresponsive.
I then set the machine to sleep, wait a few minutes and wake it up again - still unresponsive.
The only thing that works is to hold the power key down to shut it down and start it up afresh. This time I am able to move the cursor and enter my password.
Its was perfectly fine prior to the 2.9.1 update (and I've not installed anything else in the meantime) but since the 2.9.1 update the above login problem has happened.
This is my Macbook Air's system (10.9.4) info if its of any help to anyone:

Since the update, I have a different problem (when the laptop is in sleeping mode, screen turned down, fan runs after a certain...)... Did not have time to contact support yet.

Since upgrade, I can't now tell the size of attachments added to email and the attachment link from the icon doesn't work properly. How can these be addressed?

Since the upgrade to mozilla and to windows was installed on my computer, when I use my hotmail account with mozilla, I now cannot tell the size of attachments. Previously you could see the size of attachments but now when the cursor passes over the attachment, this works on Internet explorer but not Mozilla. Also, the icon for attachments often doesn't work, nor the "send as an online document" nor the "No thanks" icon.

The "Use custom settings for history" selection allows to see the current history and cookie settings, but selecting this doesn't make any changes to history and cookie settings.
Firefox shows "Use custom settings for history" as an indication that at least one of the history and cookie settings is not the default to make you aware that changes were made.
If all History settings are default then the custom settings are hidden and you see "Firefox will: (Never) Remember History".
"Never Remember History" means that Private Browsing is active and "Always use private browsing mode" gets a checkmark.
You need to remove the checkmark on "Always use private browsing mode" to leave Private Browsing mode or chose the "Remember History" setting.

On reboot / starting, the trackpad doesn't work...

Ever since the last software update, My macbook's cursor will not move until I:
a) wait about 2min.
b) plug in a bluetooth device.
Anyone else have this problem or have you found a resolve?

MacBook suddenly turns off at 40% of battery charge and trackpad doesn't work

I had to replace the battery of my white MacBook (13 inches, mid 2010), because it was swollen, and the capacity was about just 20-30% of its original one. I bought a new one. Specifically, this one. After replacing it, I have those problems:
When I run on battery, the computer suddenly turns off at about 40% of the charge. No warnings. Just turns off.
The trackpad is not working properly. I can move the mouse, but I can not click. The swollen battery was pusing the trackpad, and I guess it's broken now. I don't know if I can replace it.
Coconut battery tells that the maximum charge of the battery is below the design capacity. Not sure if this is a problem, or Coconut battery is just comparing my battery's numbers with the theoretical numbers of a brand new battery. Check a screenshot
The battery drains too fast. From 100% to 65% in about 20 mins. So, at the end, I have less than 1 hour of battery time.
I've tried resetting the SMC, following these instructions. Specifically, pressing (left side)Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time, releasing all the keys and then pressing power button to turn on the computer. Not worked. I think it was even worse.
Could it be a problem of this specific battery? Or maybe just the MacBook doesn't accept batteries like that one? It's not original.
In the first case, I would return the battery to get my money back. In the second case, I guess I should have bought an original one.
