Left click stops working after sleep

Hi,
I have a MBA 2013 with a magic mouse that I use when at my office desk. If I close the lid or allow my MBA to go to sleep and then take it away from my desk to another office or room (beyond the distance of bluetooth), when I open my the lid my left-click stops working. Cursor can be moved and right click works but I can't left click anything.
If I then move back within the bluetooth range of the Magic Mouse I am also able to move the cursor and use right click, but again, the left click doesn't work on the Magic mouse either.
This is ridiculously frustrating as I regularly pick my laptop up and leave the office/house for meetings without first disconnecting my Magic Mouse cleanly (i.e. turning the mouse off whilst the MBA is in operation).
The ONLY solution to this issue when it happens is to reboot the MBA. This alone can take a couple of attempts as there is obviosuly no left-click so I have to manually CTRL-Q each app that stops me from rebooting (i.e. unsaved work, applications that sometimes need a force quit etc).
I have only noticed this issue since upgrading to Mavericks. I have tried different batteries in mouse etc, but I'm assuming that this is more of a software issue than a hardware one.
Any ideas?

Wish I could be more help but I don't have Mavericks to experiment with.   I read a few comments by posting 'Mavericks and the Magic Mouse' into Google but there are so many references.  And nothing positive as far as I can see.   Hopefully we shall find someone else step in.

  • Lenovo Thinkpad T420 trackpad and touchpad right/left click stopped working

So I have had a very... VERY... irritating problem with my Thinkpad.
For the first 6 or so months I had the laptop it worked fine. Then, the left click on the touchpad was functioning like the right click (bringing up a menu).
I immediately disabled the touchpad and then used the trackpad right and left clicks which worked perfectly.
After another 4 or 5 months, those buttons stopped working altogether. I could still use the touchpad to move the arrow, but I couldn't click on anything.
I bought an external USB mouse and that worked fine for another 2 months. Then for a few weeks, it would work on and off. I'd have to wiggle it around in the USB ports to get the laptop to recognize it. (it had nothing to do with the ports... there were 3 of them and they all worked fine).
Then it stopped working completely, AND, my laptop refuses to acknowledge ANY USB I plug in.
I have run out of options now. I can't even install anything, download any files from lenovo website. I can't do anything. Does anyone know if it is still salvageable? Has anyone had the same problem?
The lenovo digitizer for tablets.... would that work for this thinkpad? (sorry... not as tech savvy as the rest of you)
    Thanks a bunch,
    Amanda

Here was my solution to this. My left click button on both the trackpad and touch pad suddenly stopped working on me. After putting up with this for a few weeks I decided to investigate. I found if I disabled the touch pad the trackpad left click would start to work again. So I investigated by carefully popping off the left click button for touchpad. Everything looked normal, so I investigated a little father buy removing the small round blueish rubber piece in the middle of the button. Once I did this I realized it quite dirty, with a soft cloth and a toothpick I cleaned both the contacts on the PC and the the black spot on the rubber piece, putting everything back together and my left click worked once again.
The cause of my problem was just a build up of dirt under the rubber contact which caused the button to short out and disable itself.
I didn't have to reinstall any software or drivers.

  • USB hub and internet sharing stop working after sleep

    Hi,
I have a relatively new Bluestork USB hub I purchased to connect multiple USB devices I have at the same time. It used to work correctly under Leopard, but now it stops working each time the computer wakes up from sleep. I have to restart the computer for it to start working again. Both link and power LEDs stay on, even when the hub is not recognized.
My second problem is related to internet sharing. It stops working after each sleep/wakeup cycle and the only way to make it work again is to restart the computer. It used to work correctly before Snow Leopard as well.
I have all the Mac updates installed.

    Thanks Barry.
The hub is on its way to the manufacturer for after sales service...
But the issue with AirPort remains the same, even after resetting SMC.
    Some clarification:
    * It happens just after computer wakes up from sleep. Restarting solves the problem and the issue doesn't arise until computer goes standby again.
    * The whole WiFi card becomes unresponsive. It is not only the Turn Off button, but the whole functionality is stopped. The card can not be activated/deactivated and it doesn't connect to any network. If it is used for internet sharing, clients are unable to connect.

  • Clicks stop working after opening iPhoto or App Store

Everything works fine until I open iPhoto or the App Store (could happen with other apps, but these two for sure) then "clicks" stop working, My cursor moves and some items highlight, but nothing will "click"... I can't select photos, can't click on Download button, can't click to All Events, etc. Tasks can be accomplished with keyboard shortcuts. In App Store, I can't even highlight to try to click. Once these apps are opened, mouse clicks no longer work in other apps.
I've tried switching from Magic Trackpad to a Logitech Nano mouse; same thing happens.
Using Mac Pro & Mavericks. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve your problem.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to gather information about the state of your computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it on this page. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the request of a stranger on a public message board. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed: Copy a line of text from this web page into the window of another application. Wait for the script to run. It usually takes a couple of minutes. Then paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page. The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking  anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in your browser, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign ($) or a percent sign (%). If you get the percent sign, enter
    exec bash
in the window and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste (command-V). The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know your password, or if you prefer not to enter it, just press return three times at the password prompt.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line "[Process completed]" to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report your results. No harm will be done.
    8. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If it happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

  • Left click stopped working all of the sudden. Help?

Earlier today, my MacBook Pro's trackpad button was working just fine. Now it's not. Whenver I press it, nothing happens. I can still move the cursor without a problem. I connected my Mighty Mouse to my MB Pro and everything in my MM works fine, except for the left click. Then I decided to shutdown my MB Pro and reboot it, hoping that it would get rid of the problem. After it turned back on, I realized that the left click is still not working, both on the trackpad and my MM. I even reseted my PRAM and that didn't fix my left click problem at all.
How do I get the left click working again on BOTH my trackpad and my MM?
Here are the specs for my MB Pro:
    - MacBook Pro with 15 inch screen (Late 2006)
    - 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
    - Running on the latest version of Lion (10.7.5)
    - 3 GB of RAM installed

I have this problem too! I just posted a question - how did you fix it or did it just go away? Mine computer is unuseable. Left click does some things but not all.
    Here's my post
I can open MAIL but the MAIL menu doesn't appear at the top, and the LEFT click doesn't work properly, but right click does work! Command Q doesn't close the program, it's like it's half open. I can get rid of the page with the LEFT clicker (red button) and I can sort of select stuff in an email but it's grey. The buttons along the top work (Get mail, new message etc), but if I open a new message I can't do anything with it, there's no cursor.
Other programs the same (like Excel)
I restarted with the buton on the back, it'll work ok for a few minutes then not so ok. I managed to copy some files onto a hard disc and that all worked fine.
It seems to be all in the communication between the mouse/keyboard and the computer. Yes I have tried a wired mouse and keyboard, with the bluetooth one off, no help, same result.
This is not a result of new installation. There's no half-dead mouse hiding somewhere.
    Help! Thanks

  • W540 - Fingerprint reader stops working after sleep

Once again the fingerprint reader stopped working.
When I run the Lenovo Solution Center (v2.7.003 rev 19975) all appears normal. When I go to [Security]>[Fingerprint] I get a <Status> that it is enabled.
However when I [launch] > Fingerprint Manager Pro (v8.01.35 x64) I get the device is not connected.
    See the pictures.
This occurred after coming out of sleep, and warm boot or cold boot did not change anything.  It's now been 3 days.  I have no idea what the hardware is doing as there are no lights.  I did not install any new software, aside from the normal AV updates (MS Security and Malwarebytes ONLY! each aware of the other).
Administrative event logs do not reveal anything.
Device manager has no warning, neither does it show the fingerprint reader.
    Scanning does nothing,
Any workaround ???  Any one else with these symptoms.  I can deal with software, and drivers, but I cannot deal with failure to have hardware switches, lights, and other missing workstation attributes.
    re: Lenovo W540 20BG, 32gb, Win 7 x64, BIOS 2.17, Samsung 1tb EVO

It's an on / off issue.  Partly software and hardware.  I think it a USB / reader problem.  Only occurs occasionally when going to sleep. I do use Zentimo, so that may cause a disconnect when sleeping or at the very least let me know that a disconnect occured.  I just type my user PW, as the reader's surrounding surface is now glossy,  Never had that problem with other high gloss chassis. Oddly the track pad is immaculate and not shiny!
Reader resumes - in most cases - after cold boot with power off for a while.  If I do a warm boot, the reader remains innactive and disconnected.
So far the machine from a software side is tamed and works great, it the harware interface with the internals that is a POS.
If the machine works great, it's because of Intel, nVidia, Micron, etc.  The user dialog to the hardware is missing when PROBLEMS (not issues) occur.
Thank you for your concern.  Hopefully these issues will be resolved after my yearly update. Albeit, Win 10 concerns me <vbg>.  I think MS Win 10 will go the Adobe route, with a yearly subscription after the free 1 year.

  • Trackpad left click stopped working...bluetooth issue?

I have a new macbook pro 15" i7 for about 2 months, and I have a magic mouse and wireless keyboard too. Everything worked fine until yesterday, when I turned on the pc and the left click on the trackpad wouldn't work! Right click works, the cursor moves...only left click doesn't. I saw on a forum that if I turned off the computer and press optioncmd+rp when it starts it would reset PRAM and could work again, and so it did. But the next day the problem remained when I turned on the computer...just for the experience, I tried to turn off bluetooth, where my mouse and keyboard were connected, and the trackpad now fully works! Is this weird? I didn't have to turn off bluetooth for both mouse and trackpad to work... It must be some software problem, because when it first occurred me, I switched to my windows bootcamp partition and it works there!
    Sorry for the long text
    Cumps

I had this happen to me all of a sudden on my home iMac (2007) and my work 15" MBP (2010). I think it may be related to the multitouch trackpad in some way (probably/possibly the Magic Trackpad which I have paired both with my iMac and MBP). I started seeing multiple messages like this in Console:
    20-12-2010 11:29:40 kernel AppleUSBMultitouchDriver::_deviceGetReport - DeviceRequest for reportID 0x0 returned with result 0xe000404f - retrying
I had also seen a forum entry (don't remember where) theorizing that a USB device continually polling the bus might be filling up a buffer in some way and making the left click unresponsive.
For me, it looks like disconnecting the Magic Trackpad and reconnecting fixed everything without having to reboot. We'll see if it stays fixed. If you aren't using a USB keyboard/trackpad, then I'm not sure what to suggest since I don't think you can disconnect the built-in trackpad via software.
Anyway, in the mean time, keep System Preferences > Universal Access > Mouse & Trackpad > Mouse Keys accessible with the 'press the Option key 5 times' to activate option. This allows you to use the 7, 8, 9, u, o, j, k & l keys to move the cursor, and the i key to left-click. At least that way you can shut things down safely if things go haywire.
If anyone else is having these problems, please post so we can get to the bottom of it.
    Best of luck!

  • 3 cores stop working after sleep (10.8.3)

Hello all and thanks for reading this post.
The problem I am experiencing is that, after restarting my computer of sleep mode I lost the activity on 3 out the 4 cores of my computer.
It gets solved when I restart the computer (not logging out my account, I need a complete restart).
I could check this by looking at the activity monitor. You can see an screenshot here http://d.pr/i/WI9i
I notice it when perceiving a really low performance in Ableton Live and in some SVG web animations. After restarting my computer, the performance is excellent again. Then, after sleep and start again, these things perform really bad again.
Can you give me some orientation towards solving this issue?
Find next a screenshot of the screen "about this mac" should you need it. http://d.pr/i/eOkV
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    Daniel

To add more info, I have reinstalled mountain lion and it didn't solve the issue.
Also, I have compared (after restarting the computer) in a clean 4-core working state all the processes vs all the proccesses when only core works.
I have removed all the processes that didn't appear (one by one) in the 4-core working state with no improvement

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion when waking from sleep Mission Control no longer works. It doesn't crash, it just decides not to run, I can't access it by finger commands or from applications, I have to restart the computer for it to work again. How should I fix it?

Mine is doing the same thing. I've been fixing it by opening up terminal and typing "killall Dock"

  • Mouse left-click not working after first click

I see this issue has been up several times. I have disabled Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant and Java Quick Starter, but still have the problem. I’m using the lastest FF ver. 3.6.6 on Win XP. I think I have had this problem once in a while since FF 3.0 but now it’s almost daily.
Does anyone know what’s causing this?
    Thanks,

  • After update to 10.8.5 HDMI sound stops working after sleep mode

Has anybody a solution or the same problem?

This is not just a Mac Mini problem.  I've found comments from people with all kinds of Mac, with any kind of external sound device, who all have this same issue.
The common factor is Mountain Lion.
Apparently there is a new build (12F42) which is supposed to fix this.

Apple released it to their employees on the 25th Sept.
Yet they don't even seem to have told their support people about it.  My local apple store replaced my Mac Mini just on Sunday, because they didn't know why it was behaving like that.  Needless to say, the new one has the same problem.

  • Wifi doesn't work after sleep

I'm having an issue where my wifi will stop working after sleep.  This isn't the same problem where the network had to be manually reconnected--
The "radar" will be grayed out, and I can see the networks if I click on it, but I cannot reconnect, disable wifi (make the radar the pie shape).  The only thing I can do is do a hard reset holding the power button until the computer shuts off.
In fact, if I select 'Apple -> Restart,' nothing happens.  I have to hold the power button down.
    Any thoughts?

  • Trackpad Gestures stop working after screen sleep on OS 10.9.2 update

Trackpad Gestures stop working after screen sleep after OS 10.9.2 update.  Anybody know why?  Is there a process I can stop or reboot in the Activity monitor to refresh this?  These gestures include launch pad, mission control and full screen swipes.  Annoying.

Same problem same version. On a MB Air. I have every gesture turned on. When this happens I have same problem on Magic Trackpad and my MB Trackpad. If I quit the app part of the gestures come back but then stop again. The worst is scrolling. This one is a show stopper and always require quit and relaunch.
