I did not want to be on icloud anymore. I left it and now each and every time, I open my contacts on my desktop, I get the same annoying window.
Contqcts can't connect to the account icloud. How do I stop this window from appearing?

Left iCloud - how to get iCloud calendars synced from iPhone?

Like many people have experienced, iCloud's calendar-syncing issues have made a mess of my calendar-dependent schedule.An unmitigated disaster. I finally signed out of iCloud, and left the iCloud calendars on my iPhone, the only place other than iCloud my multiple calendars currently exist, due to Outlook sync problems.
Now, I can't get the multiple calendars on iPhone to sync with ANYTHING else, not google calendar, not outlook, not iCal. Only the main calendar syncs up, noe of the colored other categories I was using.
If anyone has a notion of how to deal with this I'd be deeply appreciative. Thank you!!

More iCloud woes-

Ok, read a bunch of discussions and my head is spinning!
i am getting sick and tired of all the hype about "oooo, the cloud is awesome! it links everything!" ... ok, so why do i have tons of events listed on my iPad but they will not come up on my MBP??? yes i rebooted, signed out and back in, yadda yadda... nothing. these are the same issues i got sick of with micro-shaft and that is why i converted... but STILL having issue after issue with MAC... so no different?!?

Your signature says you have 10.6.2 - is this correct? (If it isn't, please update it to prevent confusion.) 10.6.2 is not compatible with iCloud. You may be able to set up calendar syncing by using the method detailed here - this is an unsupported hack and may not be reliable, and may stop working at some future point.

ICloud Mayhem - Shared Family Account

I'm wondering if the support community can help with my family's iCloud woes because I'm at a loss.
Between the four of us we own nine seperate Apple devices, we each have an iPhone and iPad as well as a shared family MacBook Pro.
Ideally I want to be able to share the following between devices:
Music
Apps
Calendar
Beyond this it would be helpful to be able to selectively share reminders or notes when needed but not have all reminders or notes sync completely with each device. That way I could set reminders for my children and have them sync to their devices.
I also want each of us to have our own iCloud email address which only syncs between our own two devices. So each persons email would be available on their iPhone and iPad but none of the other devices.
I also don't want to have everyone's iMessages and Facetime sync between all devices. We each only want to see our own iMessages and Facetime calls.
Photostream sync is another awkward one. Ideally I would want these to sync so they could be backed-up to a single iCloud account with extra storage, rather than having to buy additional storage for several iCloud accounts.
What would be perfect is a single iCloud account with additional storage.
Selectively selecting which email alias syncs with which devices.
Selectively selecting which calendar syncs with which devices.
Selectively syncing iMessenger and Facetime to the relevant devices.
Photostream Sync
The ability to download and sync ALL iTunes and AppStore content rather than having to buy for each device.
Is all this even possible?

Welcome to the Apple community.
One approach would be for each of you to have their own Apple ID to use with iCloud, but still continue to use a family Apple ID for services such as the iTunes Store, which will mean that you can continue to share apps, music, movies etc. This way everybody would have their own email address, calendar, contacts list etc., they could also use their own Apple ID for services such as face time and messages, thereby avoiding the mayhem you have undoubtably found.
As for your requirements to be able to set appointments in other users calendars, there are several ways you could go about this. Either you could simply create the appointment in your own calendar and invite the appropriate family members. Another alternative would be to add the other family members Apple ID to your device as a secondary account in settings> mail, contacts, calendars. That way you could selectively share calendars or contacts or notes or whatever you did or didn't want to share.

Mac freezes since Lion and iCloud

Since installing Lion and moving to iCloud my mac book Pro starts whirring and going slow before freezing and having to be shut down
Help me please its driving me crazy and means I am getting virtually nothing done apart from force quit and shut down before I wait for it to boot up again

I am having the same issue it started 2 days ago, my two macs have been fine after the iCoud update on 14-10-2011 but 2 days ago both have slowed down alarmingly, and I got a Kernel panic on my iMac
After much searching and removing recently installed software the problem still persisted
Now for the strange part, I have 3 mail accounts MobileMe, Gmail, Virgin, all Imap all running well prior to the upgrade,
After the upgrade all those mail accounts still ran perfect, but I noticed 2 days ago the slow down on my rebooted mac's started as I fired up Mail, prior to that they both ran well (normal), so I have isolated the problem to Mail
So I removed (disabled) my Virgin and Gmail accounts from Mail (left iCloud running), and whoa both my mac's sprang back into life running as normal
Went back into Mail and re-enabled Gmail and Virgin and the slow down was immediate again,
So I have deleted both Virgin and Gmail accounts in Mail and forwarded all mail to iCloud with these two account disabled/ deleted both my Mac's are running as normal
So is it some new restriction on the number of email accounts that can be run in Mail? or is there some competing elements between Gmail and iCoud that causes his slow down
What I do know is if I run another email account alongside of iCloud my macs slow down alarmingly, if I run iCloud only via Mail my mac's run normally

Why did iCloud delete all of my contacts?

until today, i have always left iCloud off. i decided to use it is a backup for my contacts, and it deleted them. although i had them backed up on my sim, and did not "loose" them completely, it would help to know why this happened.

1. The Contacts in iCloud is NOT a backup. Only syncs with all devices that use the same iCloud account.
If you delete a contact from one device it will deleted from all devices AND iCloud server. This is SYNC.
2. When you turned ON the Contacts in iCloud Settings, you was promted to merge. Did you tap "Merge"?
3. Did you check if there is a "Group" button at upleft corner inside Contacts app?

Mail behaving strangely after Mavericks update

The Mail app opens no problem, I can see all of my mail and folders on the left (iCloud & Gmail accounts) but when i try to open a mail to read it nothing happens. I can see I have mail in my inbox but I cannot open it to read it. Then, after maybe a minute, Mail becomes totally unresponsive. I cannot click or highlight anything. In effect Mail is now completely useless. Not sure what is going on or how to fix it?

I had the same issue yesterday. For a time it stopped working altogther. It would open but I couldn't do anything. I shutdown several times without any luck, but this morning when I started up it opened fine and everything is still there.
As an aside, and a reason I am here this morning, is that the app store is telling me I have to download Mavericks when it's alread installed. I did download it yesterday, again, but the message is still there.

Ipad2 5.0.1 excessive data usage

Wondering if 5.0.1 fixes any bugs around increased data usage. Since I upgraded my Ipad 2, my data usage has significantly increased. I did enable locate my ipad, but I did not expect such a jump in data usage. I have not been near my 250Mb limit in any of the previous months. Since my upgrade to 5, I am near my limit after 2 and 1/2 weeks into the new month.
I found some information about this and it suggested I delete my iCloud account, which I did. But now I don't have the ability to located my iPad - bummer.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

More troubling is that you can't use any of the new icloud features so widely touted.
I have the same issue and I ran some tests that concluded deleting the icloud account from the device is the only way:
Spent a day testing and have conclusive results.
Headline is this:
iCloud (with all its switches off) consumes 3G data all the time wifi is unavailable.
It can be around 2k every 10 seconds. Easily reaching 20MB over a typical day with typical time away from WiFi.
The only way to stop 3G data consumption is to delete the icloud account from the phone.
This is with 5.0.1 on an iPhone 3GS 16MB. (Black :)
This took a day to test because I switched off everything else one by one and it had no effect, until I deleted the icloud account. So I removed all the location services, I deleted a load of my subscribed calendars, I removed the Reminders that were linked to my email account. I took off everything I could manage and there was no effect.
I have an experiment that is really easy to reproduce Wherever you are:
Switch off wifi so your phone is only using 3G
Go to Settings, General, Usage, Cellular Usage
Press Reset Statistics to get cellular data sent and received to zero
Go back a screen
Count to ten
Press Cellular Usage again
Look at the stats now and it will have gone up by anywhere from 1 to 20 kBytes
Repeat this by going back a screen, waiting, and returning to the cellular usage screen.
Each time your data usage will go up by that amount.
I varied this out for a long time, switching something else off each time, and usually switching the phone off and on too, to ensure the thing I switched took effect.
I left icloud till the end, though switching off the icoud settings was the first set of tests followed by switching off all the location and system services.
It was only when I deleted the icloud account from the phone that the data consumption stopped. I left it then for minutes and got no further increase. Leaving it longer caused some increase due to checking mail over the air, but nothing like the rate with icloud on.
I then added icloud back to my phone and ran the test again. Data consumption as back up to its high level and only stopped when I deleted the icloud account again.
I'm in no doubt now that having icloud signed in on the phone is what's caused my 3G data usage to rocket ever since I installed iOS5 (and 5.0.1)
If anyone has any further insight into this, or even if you have repeated my test above, with same or different results, then please do let me know.

I have an iPhone 4 and I had to get a new one due to a defect with my old one and I left the apple store's wifi before iCloud was done restoring unknowingly. So it is still stuck in a restore? Help please?

I left the apple store fast due to the fact i was in a bad car accudent and i am in a wheelchair and cant stay seated like that long due to a broken leg. It randomly will pop up message saying something like it needs wifi but I have wifi at my house. It also pops up another message something like it needs to finish restoring it and asks if I want to download it all and I click on it it to but it goes away after that and nothing pops back up. I also can't install the new update it says I have I finish the retire then do it. My photo album is also stuck at whatever number of photos I have taken in the new phone that number of 300 something. It just says its downloading it. I have no clue what to do. Also my iCloud backup I looked and it says I have 2.2 gb left then that the backup is 2.7 gb. I'm very confused what options I have and can't find an answer anywhere please help me!

Last Resort, put the iPhone in DFU mode (Google How to do that). Connect in iTunes. Follow on-screen prompts to Restore. All Data would be lost, if not backed up earlier.
To save the photographs you may have to use third party software. Google is your friend.

I have been shut down from my previous email address as I left my company's email system, I am now on gmail and have changed my Apple Id and password successfully unfortunately I dont understand what I need to do to change my ICloud, IFace etc...ID?

First thing to try is just to sign out on all your devices. If you can do that you can just sign in with the new ID. However if you've set up 'Find My iPhone' you won't be able to.
In that event go to http://iforgot.apple.com and sign in with your iCloud login. A new password will be sent to your associated email address. If this doesn't work you will have to contact Support. Go to https://getsupport.apple.com . Click' See all products and services', then 'More Products and Services, then 'Apple ID', then 'Other Apple ID Topics' then 'Lost or forgotten Apple ID password'. About a month ago a song randomly appeared in my songs list and when I tried swiping to the left to delete the song it wouldn't slide over to show the delete button. The delete slide appears with all of my other songs except that one. P.S. iCloud is off.

The storage you who have purchased is iCloud storage, it is not extra storage on your iPad, you cannot add extra storage space to your iPad.

I was facing issues with both backup and FB integration after the iOs 6 upgrade. Before then I did not have any issues with the iCloud backup service, but after a few days, I noticed that it was continually stuck at the Estimating time for the backup and it never progressed.
As any good techie would, I tackled the most pressing issue first . . . FB integration of course.
I had read in a separate post about this solution so tried it . . .
I deleted the original FB app and hard booted the phone. I then went into settings and entered the data for FB integration. Seconds later, I received a text message to my phone - already listed and verified in FB with a 6 digit code to re-enter instead of my password. Seconds later I was verified and then prompted to download the FB app. All backup and integrated.
Then I went into the iCloud backup, turned it off . . . and deleted the last backup. I then re-enabled backup . . . and although I thought I was going to face the same issue, after a few minutes, it moved on from Estimating time . . . to actually backing up. It is now a small way through the backup and seems to estimate that it will take another two hours to complete.
A good nights work. Backup and integration all sewed up. Good luck.
