Left shortcut key - lock keyboard?

Hello!
After the update I've lost the lock icon (yeah yeah I found out that Play/Pause key is locking keyboard when I hold it). But even the problem was solved (I know how to lock keyboard) I'm having a really bad time with that "new" solution. How I can put to the left shortcut key the keyboard locking? Please help!

You can set your left convenience key to Password Lock if you enable a device password. Setting a convenience key as keyboard lock is not available in new versions of BlackBerry Device Software. See the following article for more information: http://bbry.lv/bd4PN4

wireless mouse will suddenly scroll down horizontally and won't stop. when i am on a webpage it will bounce back to the previous page without my doing so. i have tried adjusting the mouse several times, turning it on and off, and now am using my wacom mouse which also seems to have issues with this computer.  i have only had this a few months and getting very frustrated.

Can you try a different keyboard to see if the problem persists? Also, you have 90 days of phone support when you buy a mew mac.

  • Differentiate between shortcut keys Alpha (keyboard) Enter and Number Pad (10 key) Enter

I need to be able to differentiate between the Keyboard enter and the 10 key enter (see image below) using a shortcut key in Captivate and/or Flash. These keys are used for two different reasons in the application that I am creating a simulation for.  Using ENTER allows the learner to use either key to continue with the simulation. I would like to force use of each of these keys differently.

  • Making Dedicated Shortcut Keys on Keyboard

This is kind of an "out-there" question, as im very much hoping someone can answer it but not really sure im going to get a response i like but here we go.
I'm looking to set a key (e.g. F9), or a combo (e.g. Command+F9), to change to the next song on itunes no matter what program im in or doing.
I have wanted this because i like to keep the itunes screen closed while the music is playing and like to keep switching songs but hate having to either right click on the Dock icon or opening the whole screen.
    Thanks, SaL

    HI, Salvatore.
To do this you'll need two things:
    1. An AppleScript to tell iTunes to advance to the next track. The following AppleScript will do the trick:<pre>tell application "iTunes"
    next track
end tell</pre>To use the script:1.1. Launch Script Editor, which is in the Macintosh HD Applications > AppleScript folder.
1.2. Copy the three lines of blue text above and Paste these into the Script Editor window.
    1.3. Click "Compile."
    1.4. Select File > Save.
1.5. In the resulting Save sheet:• Type a name for the script (e.g. Next Tune).
    • Select a location for saving the script, e.g. your desktop or your Home > Documents folder.
    • Select "application" in the File Format pop-up menu.
    • Click Save. The script is saved, e.g. NextTune on your desktop.
1.6. Test the script: start playing a playlist or album in iTunes. Double-click the script and see if it advances to the next song in the playlist / album.
Note that iTunes must already be running for this script to work.2. A third-party utility for creating your own global keyboard shortcuts, such as iKey or QuickKeys. With Mac OS X, you can't assign an AppleScript to a keyboard shortcut without using a third-party utility: this is unsupported in System Preferences > Keyboard and Mouse > Keyboard Shortcuts.
Follow the instructions in the documentation for the third-party utility you choose to assign the script created in Step 1 above to your desired keyboard shortcut.
    Good luck!

  • Left shift key just fell off

    Hello,
My left shift key (Dutch keyboard, small shift key) fell of and I cannot get in back. It keeps falling of. It looks like a small pin at the back of the key broke... strange.
Can you tell me how to get an new one? My apple will only order a complete keyboard set.
    Regards,
    Thomas

    Thomas,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Keyboard parts are not sold separately. If you want to get a working keyboard you will probably have to replace the complete keyboard. BTW this is the case with every keyboard manufacturer I've run across for the past 20+ years.

  • Is it possible to use shortcut keys in VC apps???

I'm really struggling to understand whether or not it is possible to use shortcut keys (via keyboard) instead of the mouse (Click on an action button) for user actions to be submitted within a Visual Composer model I have created. I'd apprecaite your help on this. Thanks in advance

    Hi,
there are no shortcut keys available in Visual Composer. You can not define an event onkey... as you may know from other development environments like .NET and so on. But I think this is ok, because VC is a tool for BPX. It should be simple for BPX, because they aren't developers. When I think about Web Dynpro there are also no shortcut available only onEnter e.g. for a input field. So when you need shortcuts I think you have to use another environment as I mentioned like .NET.
I think this isn't the answer you wanted to hear, but I'm sorry this isn't possible.
    Best Regards,
    Marcel

    rajlego,
in the Keyboard pane of System Preferences, select the Shortcuts tab, and then select Mission Control on the left-hand side. On the right-hand side, make sure that the Mission Control checkbox is checked, double-click on its current key combination (by default “^↑”) so that the key combination is highlighted, and then press the F3 button — that will set its shortcut to be F3. You can now press F3 to bring up Mission Control without needing to also press the Fn button.

  • Quick Step Keyboard Shortcuts Work With Number Keys Above Keyboard, But Not On Keypad

Had this same issue with Outlook 2013:
"I assigned hotkeys to several Quick Steps, and used the suggested convention of Ctrl + Shift +1, Ctrl + Shift + 2... through 5.
When I use the number keys above my QWERTY keys, all is well.
When I use the keys on my keypad, Outlook does funny things like collapsing all the day's e-mails into the "Today" heading."
Correct. The keypad values do different things and you can't substitute the keys - you need to use the row numbers with the QAT."
Ergonomically, the number keys on the numpad are far superior to the ones above the keyboard for processing email quickly and easily (and without carpel tunnel!). I'm right-handed so it's much more natural for me to hold down the same two control keys (alt-shift)
with my left hand and select the action (a different key every time) I want with my right. Can do it opposite, but requires more conscious thought and is more subject to error (which defeats the whole purpose when I have to go fish a mis-acted on email out
    of the wrong folder).
Was wondering if this issue had been corrected in 2013 (or there was an easy workaround that doesn't involve writing and maintaining a separate macro or installing/maintaining a separate program like AutoHotKeys). The built-in functionality is 99% what I need,
but the ergonomic issue may make it unusable for me.

    Hi,
I can confirm in Outlook 2013 the shortcut keys can only use the number keys above "QWERTY..." and we can't use the number keys on the keypad. This comes by design and is not changeable currently.

  • The "alt, ctrl and shift" on the left side of my keyboard keys integrated notebook did not work. What should I do?

The "alt, ctrl and shift" on the left side of my keyboard keys integrated notebook did not work. What should I do?

    Hi Luis Fernando Garcia,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  This article has troubleshooting for keys not working on your keyboard:
One or more keys on the keyboard do not respond
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1381
Some keys don't work as expected
From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
From the View menu, choose Speech.
Click the Text to Speech tab.
If "Speak selected text when the key is pressed" is enabled, the key or key combination set to speak text cannot be used for other purposes or used to type text--click Set Key and change it to a less-commonly used key combination (try to use modifier keys such as Shift, Command, Option, and Control). Or, disable the "Speak selected text when the key is pressed" option.
Click the Universal Access pane in System Preferences, click the Keyboard tab.
Make sure that Slow Keys is turned off. With Slow Keys on, you need to press a key for a longer period of time for it to be recognized.
In the Universal Access pane, click the Mouse tab, and make sureMouse Keys is turned off. With Mouse Keys enabled, you cannot use the Numeric Keypad to enter numbers--instead the keypad moves the pointer (cursor). (There is an option to enable Mouse Keys with five presses of the Option key; you may want to turn that option off to avoid accidentally enabling it.) If Mouse Keys is enabled and you are using a keyboard with no numeric keypad or Num Lock function, seeUnable to type while Mouse Keys is enabled in Mac OS X.
If the function keys on the top row of the keyboard are not working as expected, see Mac OS X: How to change the behavior of function keys.
If the issue persists, use Keyboard Viewer to help isolate the issue:
Click the Language & Text pane (Mac OS X v10.6) or International pane (Mac OS X v10.5.8 or earlier) in System Preferences.
Click the Input Sources tab (or Input Menu tab in Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier).
Click the Keyboard & Character Viewer "On" checkbox to select it (click the Keyboard Viewer "On" checkbox in Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier).
From the Input (flag) menu, choose Show Keyboard Viewer.
If the keyboard is connected and detected by Mac OS X, the keys you type will highlight in the Keyboard Viewer window. Open TextEdit (or any text application), and try to type something using the keys that were previously not responding to see if they highlight in Keyboard Viewer.
    Cheers,
    - Ari

  • Remapping shortcut keys to macbook pro keyboard

i want to remap my up arrow to prev edit and down arrow to next edit similar to FCP7 shortcut, however, when i edit the CS5.5. default shortcut key layout nothing seems to change on the macbookpro? I could use the FCP7 layout but i want to try and learn the CS5.5 shortcut keys. There is not Page up or Page down equivalent on the Mac keyboard. I've discovered that fn+left arrow=sequence start and fn+right arrow=sequence end. I am wondering if someone has uncovered this holy grail or could give me some pointers.

Try Fn+Up Arrow and Fn+Down Arrow.

  • Reassigning keys (not just shortcuts) on my keyboard

    Hello,
My right wrist is injured and I want to reassign a key on the left side of the keyboard (something like tab, or the `/~ key for instance) to perform the "backspace" function that the "delete" key now performs (in other words, it must actually delete to the left, not to the right). I've searched all the shortcut menus in both system applications and in the specific software preferences, and can't seem to be able to do this. Can anyone help? Can't afford carpal tunnel surgery! Thank you!

Im having the same issue. I just purchased my computer a few days back. But its been having the same volume issue since I started using it.

  • HELP: Shift-left arrow key shortcut

I've got a weird problem that started sometime recently on my MacBook Pro. When I press Shift and left arrow key it is "hiding or showing all open windows." I want to change this back to what it used to be: "extend text selection one character to the left (*)".
I went to the the System Preferences>Keyboard>Keyboard Shortcuts but I could not find Shift-left arrow key listed anywhere in there.
Can anyone help me? This is driving me crazy.

    Hi,
I spent some time finding an App that had the "Orignal Action" of Backspacing the Highlighting.
Word (2204) seems to have it (TextEdit didn't)
I have Word but don't use it much.
    I did find this:-
Looking at the one on display I go to item 3 before getting lost
Hope it give you some clues.
The Print Instructions may help to see what is listed and possibly Set.
Print a list of shortcut keys
    1. On the Tools menu, point to Macro, and then click Macros.
    2. On the Macros in pop-up menu, click Word commands.
    3. In the Macro name box, click ListCommands.
    4. Click Run.
    5. In the List Commands dialog box, click Current menu and keyboard settings, and then click OK.
    6. On the File menu, click Print.
Note If you made changes to shortcut key assignments, the changes are included in the printed list of shortcut keys. Shortcut keys you assigned to macros are not included.

    Keyboard Doesn’t Work
    Keyboard Keys Do Not Respond

  • TS1381 My left arrow does not work on my macbook pro(model A1226).  I have reset nvram, performed a safe boot, pulled the cache to desktop, replaced .globalpreference.plist, test all other keys with keyboard view (all others work)  - HELP!!

My left arrow does not work on my macbook pro(model A1226).
I have reset nvram, performed a safe boot, pulled the cache to desktop, replaced .globalpreference.plist, & tested all other keys with "keyboard viewer" (all other keys work except for the arrow).
In addition, I have gone thru all the recommended checks with universal access and have booted from snow leopard dvd and the left arrow still does not work.
I have tried using the left arrow key in all of applications I use such as: excel, ms word, address book, calendar, iphoto, terminal, & highlighting an icon and using the arrows to move to another selected icon.
Here is the kicker!  In addition, I purchased a logitech solar bluetooth keyboard and the arrows work fine with my ipad but do not work when paired with the macbook pro. All other keys work fine on the macbook pro using the bluetooth keyboard.
I believe this says that the problem is not in my macbook pro keyboard. So where can it be?
Can anyone think of any other rabbit holes I can search?
    thanks and regards
    vats3

I would also like to add that I've reverted the two cd drive and hard drive mods I did and the laptop is back to factory hardware and there is 0 corrosion or mold visible.

  • My left shift key on Macbook Pro Retina (15") is behaving like the F11 key (show/hide open windows).  The key behaves the same for the laptop keyboard and for an external Apple keyboard?  This just started in last week after 6 months of use

My left shift key on Macbook Pro Retina (15") is behaving like the F11 key (show/hide open windows).
The left shift key behaves the same on the laptop keyboard and on an external Apple keyboard.
This just started in last week after 6 months of use.  The right shift key and other keys on the keyboard all appear to work correctly.
    Suggestions greatly appreciated.

I have a solution to this issue now after a discussion with Apple Support.  Some where in the last few weeks, there was a change in the key that would do a Show Desktop under the Mission Control settings in the System Preferences.  Even though the key sequence that was shown for the Show Desktop setting did not include the Left SHift key, by changing this first to having no key sequence and applying that and then changing it back to the F11 key, the Left SHift key issue that I was having has cleared up.
A second issue that was uncovered was that the SSD had some issues (uncovered when I ran Disk Utility using the Repair Disk key).  I had to restart and use the Disk Utility through the Command R sequence to get to the stand alone Disk Utility.  The SSD appears to be running better as a result as well.
Hope that this is of use to someone else in the future.
