Left speaker on MacBook Pro is static when using FaceTime?

When I either receive or place a FaceTime call on my MacBook Pro, the left speaker cuts out audio and produces high static.  The right speaker is fine.  The receiving end can also hear the static feedback, but their two speakers work fine.  I have all my iOS devices setup to receive and place FaceTime calls (iPhone 5s, iPad, and MacBook Pro 15 inch late 2011).  If I place or receive the FaceTime calls on my iPhone or iPad, there is no problem.
I've tested the speakers, youtube, iTunes audio, streaming websites, netflix, etc... and all works fine on the MacBook Pro.  Just FaceTime.  I also went into system preferences and the speaker setup is correct (audio in and out - internal speakers).
I've also restarted, reinstalled Yosemite...still FaceTime left speaker problem.
I appreciate any troubleshooting advice and/or if others have experienced this problem.
Thanks!

Take it in for replacement.  In time, the annoyance will become intolerable.
Ciao.

  • MacBook Pro generating static when touched

    Hi,
I have my MacBook Pro (MultiTouch) placed on the Griffin Elevator on my desk, when I place my hand on the palm area of the MacBook Pro (the area to the left and right of the trackpad) I get a static sensation, this comes and goes (with higher or lower static).
Why is this happening? How could I fix it.

I suffered this a couple of time myself with a PB12, when using it in remote dry areas on power with the "two" pin plug, rather than the three pin earthed cord connecting the adaptor to the power supply, Sohaila. My impression at the time was that with the unearthed two prong "duckbill" plug connection "static" electricity was not discharged to earth , but was when using the three pin cord.
Using a continuity tester between the body of the PB12 and the earth plug on the cord established that discharge to earth from the computer body is, indeed , possible , which surprised me a little as I had imagined that the "power adaptor" itself would prevent this.
I almost invariably use the cord, rather than the plug, these days on all Apple notebooks as a result.
    Cheers
    Rod

  • Left speaker on macbook pro retina buzzing!?

A slight buzzing sound can be heard from the left speaker on low frequency sounds, its not that loud but is noticable and quite annoying.
Macbook is still under warranty, is it worth taking it into the store or is this not a problem they would consider for repair or for replacement?

Take it in for replacement.  In time, the annoyance will become intolerable.
    Ciao.

  • Low resolution AirPlay when using MacBook Pro but high when using iPad

I have a very strange issue. When I use Airplay from my iPad the image on the television is very clear and sharp, looking like a great HD picture. Wen I stream from my MacBook Pro, or mirror the screen, to the Apple TV the image degrades to a choppy, low-resolution, muddy version that looks terrible! It's strange because I have not had this issue before.
Anyone have any ideas on what is going on with this? Again, the image from the iPad is fine, the image from the MacBook Pro is low-resolution. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

    Maya,
I just had a new TV, DVD, Apple TV et al installed today, and the installer told me that he generally sees better performance using Airplay from an iPad vs a Mac.  As I began to play around with my device today, this was certainly true for me as well.  No idea why.

But the OP said that it was not like that before.

  • My Macbook Pro display flickers when using power adapter

I purchased a new power adapter for my Macbook Pro (late 2011 17 inch) from Other World Computing and now the display flickers intermittently when attached to the new power adapter. There is no flickering when not attached to the power adapter or when attached to the old power adapter.
Any ideas on fixing the new power adapter? I would rather fix the problem if it is simple.
    Thanks for the help.

It doesn't affect the battery. You can use your MacBook Pro plugged in all the time without damaging the battery. You only have to be sure that you unplug it and run a battery cycle (drain the battery without letting the Mac turn off and charge it fully) at least once a month to keep the battery life.

  • My Macbook Pro shuts down when using design programs

I bought the macbook pro about 3 months ago. The shut down screen appeared and asked me to shut down the computer several times when I am using design programs (like photoshop, illustrator cs2 and macromedia flash 8...) since i bought computer. I can't do anything except forcing the computer to shut down, and it's not good for the computer if i have to do this often. The computer is fairly new, and it really upsets me with this problem.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
It sounds like what you are getting is a kernel panic. Read my FAQ* on the issue:

While uncommon, it is not unheard of. There are many possible reasons.

  • Macbook Pro running hot when using iPhoto

    Hi Folks,
I hope someone can help me with this...
Last night I was working on some pictures in iPhoto and noticed that my MacBook Pro was getting extremely hot and the fan was working overtime.
I then quit iPhoto and the fan started slowing down until finally 10 minutes later the MacBook Pro cooled down.
I also noticed that the whole system was slow and safari would load pages anymore or very slow...
I called customer support and we have done the following:
    - reset Safari
    - deleted cookies and cleared history
    - reset SMC
    - reset PRAM
    - reinstalled Mountain Lion
The installation of the OS fixed my computer but this morning when I continued to work on my pictures again it started doing the same thing.
I opened up Activity Monitor and saw that iPhoto uses >400% CPU and sometimes even more!
Now my whole system is very sluggish again and doesnt respond for minutes at the time...
    What is the problem here?
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • MacBook Pro locks up when using finder

ok, I have ready the other threads on this, and it's not a RAM or heat issue. this is a 1 month old MBP with 4gig of ram factory installed. its been fine up until a few days. I thought it was an issue with my wireless, since it only seemed to happen with safari and firefox, however today at work I turned it on to do some photoshop work. I opened finder, and wen to browse applications, and it locks up for minutes, only for me to power it off after about 5. running apps are fine, but browsing anything locks it up hard. I think it's gotta be a patch because it was fine until sunday night.

Repair the hard drive and permissions per previous message. Assuming the drive is OK and the problem persists, then you may need to do this:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.
However, before doing the extreme download a utility such as TinkerTool System - VersionTracker or MacUpdate - and use it to clear all user, system, and font caches. See if that helps. If not then do the above.

  • Macbook Pro - Kernal Crash when using browsers (Safar, Firefox, etc.)

A couple of days ago my computer started giving me the dreaded Kernel crash (You need to restart your computer. Hold the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button.) whenever I browsed the internet. I tried using different browsers, installing fresh copies of Firefox, etc. but nothing works. I have no idea why it started all of a sudden but I can barely browse 5-10 minutes without having to restart my computer. Here is the Kernal panic log, perhaps it will help someone fix my problem:

Thanks for the suggestion, but my problem has nothing to do with WebKitPluginHost. Additionally, I uninstalled FLASH and installed the BETA version someone suggested in that thread, but there was no difference.
I have isolated the problem further and it seems to be that the problem arises when I go to GMAIL, among other sites (I think it happened on Facebook too). Might it have something to do with some kind of scripts/flash/etc. in GMAIL (maybe when the CHAT menu is loading or something?). I can't access my e-mail at all.
I would love to resolve this issue and I have no idea where it came from. Just started one day. ONLY change I had made before noticing the problem was I installed a USB Internet key software to connect to the internet, but I don't see why that would cause the problem.

Hi John. Thanks for that input. At Step 6, after clicking "Next" I get a window telling me my OS version is unsupported and the installation may not complete. I am prompted to go to Canon's web site to "Check Latest Info".
I've had this window on previous attempts and from Canon's web site I downloaded two drivers as follows
    - ICA Driver V4.0.0
    - Canon IJ Network Tool V4.5.0
I'm not sure if these are the correct / complete drivers I need for this install or not.
I continue to follow all the steps. At step 9 I click "Wireless Set Up using USB" amd get a License Agreement (a little different than instructions)
I click "Agree" and it goes to a Setup window with two progress bars showing the installation. I've not been prompted to connect the USB?
After the Setup window is done, I am then prompted to connect the printer via USB. I connect the printer and click on "Redetect". It is not detected.
I then try following the Canon on screen instructions for connecting to the wireless LAN amd enter the password. It searches and indicates "Connecting" on the window, but it never connects and the blue light just blinks
So, at this point I am stuck??
    Thanks
    Stephen

  • How to fix speaker in macbook pro

how to fix my speaker in macbook pro i dont what happend before its okie i have also speaker in and out after i out the internal speaker cannot hear even i adjust alrady my seetings.plz help big tnx

First, look in your headphone out put jack and see if there is a red light on, if there is, check in utilities if AUDIO/MIDI Is set to digital, if it is try to reset to internal, in/out, by clicking on the left column then use the drop down menu.  If this does not work, try pushing in and out a headphone jack several times gently. If the red light is still on, use Q tip with the end cut off, or a wooded tooth pick(nothing conductive) and massage the jack GENTLY to release the micro switch that changes the system from digital to analog.  Last try a pram reset:  Power off, hold the following keys, option, command,P,R(no commas) power up holding these keys till you hear the chime 2 times, release. Reboot.  Hope this help.

  • My MacBook Pro died suddenly when I was removing a flash drive (LG up3 neon ps4) and is now both unresponsive and unchargable. Is there anything I can do to fix it on my own? (There aren't any apple stores in my current country)

My MacBook Pro died suddenly when I was removing a flash drive (LG up3 neon ps4) and is now both unresponsive and cannot be charged. Troubleshooting.... Is there anything I can do to fix it on my own? (There aren't any apple stores in my current country)

    Hello antol1n1,
Sorry to hear your MacBook Pro is not charging or powering on.  Sometimes a System Management Controller reset can help with the following charging and power issues:
    Power
The computer doesn't respond to the power button when pressed.
A portable Mac doesn't appear to respond properly when you close or open the lid.
The computer sleeps or shuts down unexpectedly.
The battery does not appear to be charging properly.
The MagSafe power adaptor LED doesn't appear to indicate the correct activity.
To reset the System Management Controller on your MacBook Pro (with a built-in battery) , you can follow these steps:
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
You can find more information in the full article here:

    I hope this helps!

  • MacBook Pro shuts down when i close the lid

    Hey,
My MacBook Pro shuts down when i close the lid.
It started to do this one or two times, but now it is every time.
I have the latest battery update, so this should not be the issue here..
    Any sugestions??
I have started to suspect the it might be some faulty conecctions or somthing..

If it's unable to go into the proper sleep state for some reason then it will do that.
Run /Utilities/Console and click 'All Messages' top left then close the lid, wait a minute then open it again - if it's shut down then reboot and open Console again and check the latest log lines looking for 'sleepimage' - it should give you an indication of what happened/didn't. If you're not sure what it all means post _just those lines_ here.
