  • HP Pavilion DV6-1264CA Artist Edition 2 left touchpad button is screwed up

I'm a proud owner of an Artist Edition DV6 laptop, but a few months ago the left touchpad button suffered a bit of a failure. Through normal use, the left side of the left button (the one you use to click on just about everything) seems to have broken down. I am not familiar with the inner workings of this device, but it feels like there are two underlying supports that hold the button up and allow it to be clicked down on, one on each side of the button.
A while ago, the left side of the button started squeaking while clicking, and now it sags down, and the button can be rocked from side to side. The right side of the button is still up, and it now sits on a slant. Visually it is just a minor annoyance, but what is driving me batty is that now the button essentially "clicks" on its own. It can still be used normally, but often the button will click multiple times within a fraction of a second. I only use the laptop for entertainment, but it's still annoying as hell, especially when playing games where unintended clicking can lead to irreversible actions.
I have looked into the HP catalog for repair parts, but as other Artist Edition owners have discovered, there are no specific parts for the AE model, and the only relevant part is a complete touchpad with the whole palm rest attached to it. Of course, the palm rest doesn't have the Artist Edition graphics on it, which I absolutely intend to keep.
So I was wondering, if i can locate another palm rest with the touchpad, is the touchpad transferrable to my palm rest? Or is it inseparable? Are all DV6 touchpads the same? Or alternately, if I disassemble my touchpad, what are the chances that it is repairable? Maybe something just popped out of place?
Oh, and before you ask, the laptop is out of warranty, and I'm not sure I trust the clowns at Best Buy to be able to fix it, and to do so in a timely manner. I'd rather explore all options and see if I can fix it myself first.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Phil

Does anybody have any input? I see tons of sellers selling HP DV6 parts on eBay, I just need to know if I can swap over a touchpad from one palmrest to another, and if all touchpads are the same in the DV6-7 range.

  • Touchpad Button Broken

    Hi
The left button on my dv6 touchpad 'broke' yesterday. It only registers a click in a certain place on the button, and if you try to click on any other part of the button, it just presses right down and nothing happens.
I'm guessing the whole touchpad will have to be replaced, but wondered if anyone can confirm that, please ?
Also, does anyone know how to get HP to reply to emails submitted via their website ? I've reported this fault twice, and have had no responses whatsoever !
    Many thanks
    Liz

Mine broken also.  a few months out of warranty.  Just like the battery won't take a charge.   just like they stop updating printer drives for some printers in Windows 7.  They don't care.  I called and tried to get some "help" with my issues, but I am out of warranty.
shame on me for spending 700 bucks on a laptop and assuming it wiykd be usable after the 12 month warranty is up.
And I was wrong.     Very many people having the same issues.  I guess HP should be happy they aren't a car company, because they would have been forced into recalls.
Just quit buying HP Stuff....I know I will.

  • Left touchpad button delay in web browsers

I'm at a loss to figure out what could be causing my left button on my touchpad to delay intermittently. On both Google Chrome (whether stable, beta or dev) and Firefox, the left button when pressed may not respond for up to a few seconds. This is most noticeable when using Google Street View and Google Maps, which refuse to change viewpoint when holding down the left button. It isn't a Flash fault because there is also a delay when highlighting text.
I can rule out the possibility of any hardware fault as the left button on the touchpad works fine elsewhere, within KDE (ie. drag and dropping works without delay or fault) and other applications.

  • X121E Left hinge is broken

Hello. The left hinge of my laptop was broken after less than 100 open / close cycles. Service center says it's not a warranty issue, but if judge by google search it is a design flaw, because every next user has the same problem. Please advise where should I sent a complaint?

    Hi, nebucad_nezzard
When it comes to International Warranty Service, Lenovo has this tool right here that will tell you if service is available in a country. It will also tell you what kind of service you can receive in said country. Put in your machine type and see what you can do!
    Best,

  • Where can I get a 3rd party mouse pad for my HP Pavilion dv6 - left mousepad button broken again!

Broken AGAIN and just out of warranty.  I had this replaced at 9 months and now it's broken again (at 15 mths) with light/moderate usage.  I've seen lots of posts about this issue both on and off the HP forum.  Please can you tell me where I can get a replacement mousepad that I can install myself.
    Thanks.

The touchpad is part of the whole top cover so it is going to require a significant disassembly. The above is likely not your correct part either, but the top cover for all dv6's ought to be available on ebay for $50-80. Here is the Service Manual:
    Manual
This will provide disassembly instructions and also help you locate your exact part number. Part #3 page 24. The big thing is whether you have the fingerprint reader and the color.

  • X1 Carbon left touchpad = Windows 8.1 Start Screen

Hi all, I just upgraded my X1C to Windows 8.1 Pro (64bit) and am having a funky problem with my touchpad. Any time I depress the left button (as you know, there is no defined button, rather the bottom left portion of the 1-piece pad) it brings up my start menu/screen in Windows 8.1... if I depress the "left click" again, it goes back to desktop mode... Very strange... anyone ever seen this?
I went into UltraNav settings and clicked the 'defaults' button to no avail... I want my ability to 'left click' back please.
    Thanks all!

    Hi Justin,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I’m sorry to hear that left click button of touchpad in your Lenovo X1 Carbon is not working properly.
I would suggest you to go to Control Panel -> Mouse -> Ultranav -> Click on Settings under Touchpad.
Expand the Buttons option and choose the Left Button Action.
Select Primary Click (Normal select, Normal drag) -> OK.
    Spoiler (Highlight to read)
    Hope this helps!

  • NB250-10G - left touchpad button does not work

I have a NB250 10G that until a couple of days ago had worked perfectly.
However, I then found that I could not operate the netbook with the touchpad.
However, all works fine with my USB plug-in mouse.
Everything seemed to be going haywire with the touch pad, but I now know what is wrong.
The right-hand touch-pad button works fine, but the left-hand button is producing the same result as the right-hand one. In other words, I have no working left-hand button - I can't click to open any icons, I can't close down - all that happens is that I get a mini-menu appearing just as with the right-hand button.
An online note to Toshiba has so far not been answered.
    Can anyone help please? John

Thanks for your suggestion. Have been into the control panel and changed the touchpad keys from right-hander use to left-hander, applied change - No result. Then back to right-hander set up again - still both keys give the same results, ie a normal right-hand key result. But thanks for the help. You also suggest re-installing the mouse driver. I have no idea how to go about this - are you able to advise? Many thanks. John

  • Hp J6480 left cover hinge broken while changing cartridge. How could I replace that?

HP OFFICEJET J6480 ALL-IN-ONE. The left HINGE of the cover has broken while changing the cartridge.  How could I replace it?
    Thanks
    James
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Can't replace it. Just remove 1/2 of it.
    Officejet J6480 All-in-One
I have the right hinge broken.  I removed the 5 screws,
one for the hinge cover in the back, and
4 holding the top hinge in place.
Once removed the top closed fine.  I will be careful in opening it to replace the ink.  It takes a hex head screw driver: T9 X 40.  I got a new cartridge and it is working fine with the top half of the hinge gone. Note:  the bottom broke but I removed the top only.
I have not tried any major copy jobs or scanning but I don't see that they would be effected.
HP Tec Support offered me a 6500N for ~ $100 about $30 off from what I could get from Sam's Club.  Not sure if it is the exact printer from Sam's.

  • Envy 15 j - Left hinge seriously broken

I've seen quite a few posts here about the evny 15 hinge. Mine has unfortunatey aslo become deformed and broken. The laptop doesn't close properly and there is a gap between the casing. The sreen also sits lopsided and in the last day the left fan has started making a screeching noise and the screen can move freely without resistance over around 10 degrees in any position.
There doesn't ever seem to be a resoultion to the problem posted on the forums. My laptop is still in warranty but I have seen one post that says the hinges arent covered! Can someone please tell me how I am suppose to get this fixed?

  • Left touchpad button sticks on Pavilion DM4

My wife has a DM4 2180us Pavilion notebook and lately the left button stick or does not register a click. Looking at it I believe the problem is that its rubbing against the chassis frame around the button. Have tried cleaning around it with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol. But although it helped a little it still is sticking. Kind of upset that we have not even had this PC a year and already have replaced the WiFi card and have had issues with it shutting down randomly. Fan runs all the time and seems to be struggling to keep it cool. But that's yet another issue that I can't find a solution for.

The touchpad is probably dead. The driver can be installed on your notebook with a non-functional touchpad, that is why you are seeing it in the device manager. I would recommend calling HP support at 1-800-474-6836 to have it repaired or replaced.

  • HP Envy M6 Laptop Left hand hinge broken

I started to have problems closing my Laptop cover it was catching on the left hand side causing the corner of the cover to lift slightly i found that the left hand cover hinge appears to be broken also when the cover is closed it seems to sit high on one side .
This Laptop has never been outside of my home it is used in a home office so has had a very easy life and I am amazed that such a poor design and manufactured item would not have been the subject of a re-call to rectify this problem as it sems that the fault is not to rare judging by the other posts on this site.
Not wanting to cause further damage I have stopped using  it and am using a 5 year old Toshiba Laptop  better designed and stronger hinges.
I purchased this Laptop from John Lewis and they had a promotion on at the time and they gave me a 3 year warranty so at least I suppose it will be repaired free of charge but will mean I have to return the Laptop back to the store as they do not offer a collection service and they have quoted up to 28 days before I will have it returned this is not convenient as it has alot of my work stuff on which I will now have to transfer on to my trusty old Toshiba.
This was my first HP laptop purchase having always bought Sony or Toshiba and think it will be my last.

  • Kernel26 2.6.28-3: Keyboard and touchpad (elantech) broken

    Hi,
after upgrading to the new kernel, my Elantech touchpad doesn't work anymore. I guess that is the same problem like here
    http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=63150
The other problem is much worse:
The keyboard stops working after some minutes. I couldn't figure out a pattern, sometimes it fails after logging in, sometimes it works for 30 minutes. It always failed some minutes after starting the X-Server. I log in on tty1 and start x manually, but as I said, the keyboard sometimes stops working even before starting X, so it can't have to do anything with xorg.
Searching through all the logfiles, I couldn't find anything interesting concerning the keyboard.
Meanwhile I downgraded to 2.6.27.9-1 and everything's fine again.
    Has anyone similar problems?
    [edit]
I'm running Arch i686 on an Acer Aspire 5502 WXMi
    [edit2]
Unlike all the Eeepcs, i have an old "hardware version 1" touchpad.

It looks like the problem is caused by the psmouse-module. I found a workaround to restore (more or less) the behavior of 2.6.27:
Adding the following line to /etc/modprobe.conf
    options psmouse proto=exps
and rebooting or doing "modprobe -r psmouse" and "modprobe psmouse" makes the kernel recognize the touchpad as a normal mouse (with working vertical-scrolling and multi-finger-taps, just as before). Then I get
    [thomas@tommi ~]$ cat /proc/bus/input/devices

  • DV6-1030US paint coming off left touchpad button

A small rice-sized irregular piece of the chrome paint has come off the plastic left button after only two months. It's not a nice smooth wear spot but with rough edges and is annoying.
I know it's just a cosmetic problem but it seems that the coating should not be coming off a two-month-old laptop that cost $700.
After about 90 minutes with HP Online Chat (who actually suggested I bring it in to the local Wal-mart for some reason !?), the Chat guy gave me a phone number and I talked with a Mumbai-based tech who was only willing to write up a service order for me to send it in which would entail unacceptable loss of use, risk of damage and the shipping expense.
I don't understand why they can't just send a new button cover. It would be cheaper than having me send in a functional laptop for a simple cosmetic repair. With 25 years of hardware & software development, I could easily change the part myself. If anyone has any clue as to how to get a replacement cover (even at my own expense), please let me know.
Meanwhile, I'll continue to be dismayed at the lack of common sense exhibited in my dealings with corporate America.
    Cheers,

  • Gmail compose - command left/right still broken (Mac)

This question was [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/767732 asked previously] , and was marked solved, but was never really solved.
In the 'Compose mail' window of GMail the shortcut Command-left arrow or Command-right arrow to jump to respectively beginning or end of a line, is not working. It works fine in Chrome, and Home/End work fine in Windows, but I'd rather stick to Firefox on my Mac.
A solution was proposed on the link above to remap those key combinations to Ctrl-A/Ctrl-E using other software, but these solutions are overkill, and still do not let you highlight to the beginning or end of the line using Cmd-Shift-Left/right.
Can someone at Mozilla or Google please comment?

This problem has been marked "solved" but isn't solved at all. This problem still exists, and is infuriating to any Mac/Firefox/Gmail users who like to stick to the keyboard. I've also noticed this happens in other google apps (blogger, docs, etc).
