Leftover HD space after initial apps and os?

Hi Folks,
My refurb'd 24" white Imac comes tomorrow (woot!)
It apparently has the 250 GB HD (although i'm hoping for a surprise (larger HD . If it doesn't, i'm trying to calculate whether or not I should get a new HD installed by the local Apple shop as I understand I'd break the warranty if i do it.
I know that 250 GBs isn't full..it's really around 233 GBs.
Can anyone tell me how much space is left on a 250 GB HD right out of the box? Trying to figure out how much space the initial apps and OS takes up.
I won't be doing video with this one. This will be my semi-play mac so photos and music mostly, then maybe some photo editing if my other machines are working.

Thanks Den. I should be ok. My music takes about 140 GBs (alot of apple lossless) and my photos are 12 GB'ish (although I will be further deleting dups) so I should be good.
But i am hoping for a refurb surprise or 2 (more ram..maybe more HD)
Thanks for the heads up on externals. I have an esata setup for my G5, but FWs for the Imac are a possibility. Time will tell. I know I'll be backing up my imac HD right away.

These are unrelated questions/statements.
Space before and space after a paragraph are controled in the Text Inspector, as you've found out.
Pages will create a page break whenever there is no room for another line on the page. That break can come anywhere in a paragraph.
You may be thinking of Widow and Orphan prevention, and the other Pagination controls, found under the More button in the Text Inspector. (If that's what you found, then thanks for the refresher! I hadn't been to that pane for awhile, and had forgotten the variety of pagination controls available.

N8 double spaces in social app and browser text wi...

I experience double spaces for every space typed when entering text in Nokia Social and browser text entry windows. It never happens when texting or using e-mail.
Anyone have a solution?

On my N8, I also get the same thing (double spaces using the Ovi Social app, and I think in the Nokia browser too).
It is really annoying. I have not (yet) contacted Nokia regarding this issue.

I downloaded a film but then found out that i did not have enough space, deleted all apps, and still no space. Please can i cancel the download.

According to the trms of the iTunes and app stores - all sales are final. but that doe not mean that you can't try anyway. People ask for refunds all the time. Use the Express Lane email to contact iTunes.

You can still download the other movies in iTunes on your computer. Launch iTunes and go to Store>Check for Available Downloads. You can download them in iTunes and then sync them to the iPad later. When you are done watching the first movie, you can transfer it into iTunes on your computer, delete it from the iPad and you will have the room for another movie on the device. To transfer the movie when you are done with it, you can use the transfer purchases feature.

If the photos that you lost were photos that you took with the iPad, they should be in your iPad backup - if you sync with iTunes or if you backup with iCloud.

Fans stay loud 100% after initial 'gong' and bootup

I hope someone will have a suggestion here or can help.
A perfectly fine 2008-model Mac Pro (3.2Ghz, 32GB RAM, nvidia GT card) was shipped (in original packaging!) across country. While seemingly in perfect shape, when turning on, the fans roar up (as they do, full force, at initial switch-on), but then STAY ON full force, constant, even after the 'gong' and into boot-up.
Again, this same machine, no changes done, slowed them down to a whisper after 'gong' just before shipping.
Nothing obvious is loose inside.
Short of going to the Apple store with it - does anyone have had a similar experience or has any suggestions as to what to try?

I re-installed the system from scratch just prior to shipping (and nothing else was installed). Also, the system was shipped in Apple' packaging, so frankly I didn't see a need to remove any internal components - though in hindsight, that might have helped.
All components (incl. RAM, GPU) were working fine and tested fine; never had a problem until the shipping - and from what we can tell, it's working - just the fans are at 100% and at all quiting down from the moment of startup.
We'll try the SMC reset, and I guess nvram and pram will be next, prior to us trying the Apple store...

Reinstall product after initial purcase and install?

I am wondering how to re-install Indesign. It was installed on the first computer. The company isno longer using that computer.
I need to re-install this product on the new computer using my first license and also make sure i can use my second license on a 2nd computer?

If you have trouble activating on the new computer you'll have to contact customer support. They should be able to deactivate the old one on their end.

Automatic space after numbered list items

Is it possible to have pages automatically add a space after the number and dot with numbered lists? For example, have it automatically add the text "II. " as opposed to "II.". It would save me having to keep typing the space. Thanks

OK, I figured it out. For anybody else with the same question, you click inspector (on the toolbar), the "text" tab, then the "list" tab. You have to change it for each number indent, but change the text indent. I found that something between .25" and .3" is good for me.

Inconsistent space after graphic frames

Hi,
I'm trying to create a consistent-looking manual, where space after imported graphics is consistent. Currently, that is not proving to be easy. For example, look at the difference between the space after the first and second graphics below (the first is not what I want; the second is):
All the text paragraph formats have identical space before and after
All the graphics frames use exactly the same Object style
All the graphics frames are in a paragraph style named "Anchor" that has 0pt above and 6pt below (obviously, the 6pt below is not 'sticking' for some reason)
So, is this a grid problem, or what? Align to Grid is set to None in the "Anchor" para style. I'm not (consciously) using the baseline grid in my manual.

can be sooo many things depending on your styles, setup, wrap, etc...
but a quick fix: anchor the graphic on a new para, adjust the paragraphs (your lines of text as u have it) spacing (before and after) to more (twice more) then the leading.
your approach to this project is not ideal but hopefully this advice sorts you out.

Apple actually recommended that at least once a month What I've noticed in the iPhones and iPods that when you drain it to 0%, it saves some energy to display that connect to AC source. That's what you get when you turn on your phone or ipod even if it's 0%. That WILL destroy the battery but full cycling wouldn't.
I tried it and it worked thanks but after a day it will be glitchy again :l

However, I originally had the kindle app on there and when he is reinstalling it comes up with my kindle account. How do we change this?

Tap the i at bottom right then Settings > Deregister this device.

He does not have an actual kindle so I am not sure if he would be able to create one anyways.
The Kindle app is so you do not have to use a Kindle. Yes, he can have a Kindle account and not own an actual Kindle hardware device.

Sounds like a verification issue on whatever marketplace you bought PS Touch from. Did you try contacting Google or Apple to see what they say?

HT4623 I lost my apps and iTunes after a restore, but it says there isn't enough space on the iPhone 4. How do I know how much space needs to be freed up? I keep deleting photos and videos, but I'm still getting the same message.

I did an iphone 4 software update. It then asked me to do a "restore" in order for me to be able to use the latest iTunes. I did a "restore" to "factory settings" (this was the only option listed) thinking I'd be able to sync later and get everything back and ended up losing all my purchased apps and iTunes. When I open iTunes, "Welcome to your new iphone" and it says I can re-do the "restore" and choose my lastest update. I assume this will give me back my apps and iTunes. When i choose to do this, it says there isn't enough space on the iPhone. How do I know how much space needs to be freed up? Thanks but I think it has something to do with the 'restore'. in the newest iTunes 11, when I click on the tab "iphone", it redirects me to the "welcome to your new iphone" page and asks about doing a 'restore'. I already did a 'restore', but it went to the original factory settings and I want to 'restore' to my lastest back up as of April 12. When I choose that option, it says my iphone doesn't have enough space. I don't know how much I need to delete in order to make it work. I've deleted lots, but it only has 4.1 GB available. I'm not sure why this isn't enough to do a 'restore'. I don't want to delete all my photos and videos, but maybe I will have to?...7.7GB is used up for that. I can't sync or do ANYTHING...
