Legacy Applications

I have many windows based applications such as Macromedia FlashMX, DreaweaverMX (in fact the whole Macromedia caboodle), Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator , World Builder, Maya, Motion Builder, Etc, Etc. Many gold pieces are tied up in this software. Tell me why I should abandon this expensive arsenal of creative weaponry and use the Java Desk top. Tell me if I can use the software without a third party intervening (Microsoft Simulator, Server, etc.).
I would probably take more than a little persuasion to move across. I'm a bit of a tightwad! See if you can do it!

I'll take a little stab.
OK, your lovely PhotoShop, cost how much??
try this http://www.gimp.org/
OK, your lovely 3D imageing apps how much??(maya etc.)
try http://www.blender3d.org/
These two are just small examples.
Now the question, How much greif ,time and money have you spent finding the best windows OS for your applications? (windows 3.1, 95, 98, NT, ME , 2000 , XP)
I've tried them all, and some work better for one thing than the other. So what I did was try Linux, redhat, mandrake , debian , suse. and again , some work better for one thing than the other.
I am a big fan of JAVA, and SUN microsystems(heck, I even own some stock, so why not invest) so I thought, well $50, pretty cheap really (magazines are allmost $10 bucks each, so 5 mags), and why wait for another MS product that is just going to give me greif in one area.
OK, so I bought JDS and put it on my DELL laptop , and I must admit, faster, and smarter than XP(smarter meaning I have some audio problems in XP) not a single problem with JDS.
and the best part is most linux applications are free*.
, and I love java, so alll java is preinstalled, no classpath problems that I have to worry about.
Well , hope this helps.

  • Session Time Out capturing for legacy application running in portal

    Hi Forums,
I am using portal URL  iView to connect to legacy application. How to capture the session time of of that legacy application and show it in the portal. In portal I have already handled session time out which shows a javascript popup message. I want to call the same piece of code once session time out happens in the legacy application which is been accessed by portal through URL iview.
    Many Thanks and Best Regards
    Sudhir

    Hi Sudhir,
The handling of the session timeout should be done by the application itself not the portal. From the portal you have no way of working out what the application is doing. My suggestion to you is that you need to modify the application to handle the scenario you describe not the portal.

  • IdM 7 and SSO for legacy applications

    Dear experts,
Per SAP NetWeaver 7 documentation new approach allows SSO for any legacy applications without a need for a 3rd party IdM solution.
Could someone explain how this is handled? Does evary non-SAP application need to become aware of SAP IdM credential store and be able to interact with it, or some other - non-intrusive approach is being used?
    Thanks in advance,
    Eugene.

    Hi Eugene,
SAP NetWeaver Identity Management 7.0 handles the provisioning of users (identities) for a heterogeneous landscape. Authentication and Single Sign-On (SSO) is being handled within the SAP NetWeaver platform. So introducing SAP NetWeaver Identity Management itself does not introduce additional SSO functionality.

  • Old/Legacy application requires Local Admin Rights to open Reader

    Hi,
I've got few users who has a very old application. The app generates certain report in PDF format and then it's supposed to open it up in Adobe Reader. Currently, the users are using Adobe Reader version 6.
I'm trying to get these users upgraded to latest version of Adobe Reader. After some testing, it seems that this old application works fine if the users are given Local Admin Rights to the computer. The application can successfully generate its reports and then open it up in Adobe Reader.
The users are running on Windows XP SP3. While testing, I gave users full access to "C:\Program Files\Adobe\" and the legacy application's installation folder, since I'm not sure why the Local Admin Rights allows Reader to open. However, this didn't seem to help.
Is there anything you can suggest in this case?

  • Upgrading legacy application

Please don't laugh, but we are still using rpt (sql*report)
Yes, I know it was desupported before some of you were born, but up until now it has still worked, so we have not bothered to rewrite a number of complicated application modules.
We are now migrating to a new server with oracle 11 on Solaris 11 and rpt is failing with ora-3113.
I remember we had a similar problem with oracle 9 and found a bizarre fix - I think it involved regranting connect to each user, but that has not worked this time.
Has anyone encountered rpt running against oracle 10 or 11 ?
Does anyone know a reason why it should not work ?
The rpt we are using with 9.2 is installed under an old oracle 7 home. I have not copied the whole oracle_home onto the new server so perhaps rpt is dependent on some other files ?

rpt used to work fine with 9i, since client applications from 7.3 used to be supported against 9iR2, however since 10gR1 connections with 7.3 clients is no longer supported, so the only choice you have is either rebuild your application with a modern reporting tool or use 9i as a bridge rdbms between the legacy application and the 11g database through database links.

  • Legacy Applications on Creative Cloud

    Hi Everyone,
I have been reading through the benefits of Creative Cloud and I quite like the thought of a platform that allows the users to download and work with the required applications on their own. I also read that Creative Cloud has the ability to publish Legacy Applications, but they seem to make mention of CS6 only? I was wondering if we there is a way to publish older versions, such as CS4? Maybe this is something that Adobe does not offer on their CC servers, but could this be done through a localised server such as Adobe Update Server Setup Tool?
    Kind Regards,
    Stuart Wepener

CS6 only... as far as I know (I do not work for Adobe) NO version prior to CS6 is sold by Adobe... and most likely will not be sold, due to the work going into new programs

  • Legacy Application With Very Specific Client Versions

    Hi There,
I am having a frustrating time with an application vendor who is refusing support of a legacy application unless precise Oracle client component prerequisites are met. Specifically they call for:
    Oracle ODBC Driver 9.2.0.5.4
    Oracle OleDB 9.2.0.4.0
    Oracle OO4O 9.2.0.4.4
I can get OO4O by installing the regular Oracle 9.2.0.1.0 client that comes with the Oracle 9i install disk we have, I found an install package for Universal Installer that gets me the ODBC driver to 9.2.0.5.4. The last piece of the puzzle I need to get is the OleDB to 9.2.0.4.0.
So my question is: Is there a particular Oracle 9i Client package that contains this version of the Ole DB provider or a standalone package for it? If so where can I download it?
    Thanks in advance...
    Mike.

    Hi,
You can get 9204 OraOLEDB on My Oracle Support as patch number 3262468. Select platform "Microsoft Windows (32-bit)" , not "Microsoft Windows (32 bit) client"
    Hope it helps,

  • Is it possible to use Oblix SSO in legacy application?

    Hello,
from searching web I've found that former Oblix products supports web-based single sign-on. My question is if this is purely done for web, or is there any way how to support single sign-on also on legacy application which is communicating by using proprietary protocol? In this case is there any API documentation for it?
    Thanks!
    Karel

OAM does HTTP resource protection out of the box so that is the most visible paradigm.
Read about the Access Manager SDK and creating custom Access Gates. Also read about defining custom resource types.

  • Migrating Legacy Applications to Solaris 10 Containers

    Hi, Good Day,
We have some customers who are keen to migrate their legacy banking systems to run on Solaris 10 containers. We intend to assess the feasibility of the project.
Kindly advice the considerations/potential pitfalls(if any) of running legacy Solaris 8 applications on Solaris 10 containers. Kindly advice those types of applications that cannot run on Solaris 10 containers?
What kind of information should we extract from the customer to understand these considerations?
    Thank-you and Best Regards,
    Siong Guan

Oracle migration workbench solve only the technical point of the migration. That won't solve the data mapping you have to define on your own.
Data mapping is the most important task of a migration, totally depending of the source and target systems. You need expertise on both of them and discuss with the business and functional experts people.
Then, and only after defining the data mapping, you can go for the technical migration.

  • Porting a Legacy Application

I have been tasked with porting a legacy proC application from Oracle 8.1.5 to 8.1.7.
The link fails because the library Libnoss8.a is no longer available, so I dropped it from the makefile.
Now I get an unresolved external .snljgvm which I believe to be a new addition in one of the other oracle libraries.
Can anybody give me a definitive list of which libraries I need to link or a pointer to some documentation where the libraries are explained?

Here is a relevant metalink article:

    Hi,
Recreate the libclntsh.so library by running
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/genclntsh
Now check the libclntsh.so lib to see that the symbol is defined.
    nm -r libclntsh.so|grep -i nauzaoss
It should return one line that has a "T" in it, similar to
    001cd3d0 T nauzaos
    Now try SQLPLUS again.
Let me know if you get an error.

I am having the same problem on SOLARIS 2.7 ... Any idea how to fix it here too?
    My environment
    Solaris 2.7 64-bit w/lots of patches
    Oracle 8.1.6 64-Bit
EA Studio (Some middle ware development crap)
Anway, they keep getting the error message
relocation error: file /usr/local/jaguar/EAStudio/JaguarCTS35/lib/libpbo8470x.so: symbol nauzaoss: referenced symbol not found
I did some quick searches of MetaLinks and DejaNews and people suggested modfying and running genclntsh.sh with a few more options. Specifically, I changed one line
    BEFORE
    LCLIENT="-client8"
    AFTER
    LCLIENT="-lclient8 -lnoss8 -lnoname8 -lnsslb8 -lntcp8 -lntcps8 -lnbeq8 -lnus8 -lntns8 -lnhost8"

ld: fatal: library -lnoss8: not found
ld: fatal: File processing errors. No output written to /u1/app/oracle/product/8.1.6/lib/libclntsh.so.8.0
Is this a linker bug or is noss8 really not out there? Please help if you can.. Again this is Oracle 8.1.6 on Solaris 2.7 ... Also, if I take out "-lnoss8" the script rebuilds "libclntsh.so.8.0" without any errors. I am stumped.

    Hi,
You should check with the "EA Studio" vendor to determine if it is certified to be used with Oracle 8.1.6
I haven't found that the symbol nauzaoss is part of 8.1.6
The libnoss8.a is part of 8.1.5 not 8.1.6, so you will not find libnoss8.a in the 8.1.6 distribution.

  • Accessing Legacy Application through BAPI in NW 2004s

    Hi All...
In NW 2004s, the legacy applicaitons accessed via BAPI using ETL tools are not available NW 2004s Datasources. So in that case how we will connect to 3 rd party ETL tools?
    Appreciate your help!
    Thanks
    Deepthi.

The latest BI release in SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (2004s) includes a new type of DataSource for which  staging BAPI has not yet been aligned.
Third party ETL tool vendors can therefore only implement their load processes using the original type of DataSource from BW 3.x. This DataSource is still provided in the new release without any changes. Upgrading to NetWeaver 7.0 (2004s) BI (BI 7.0) does not therefore endanger existing implementations based on BW 3.x and NetWeaver 2004 (BW 3.5).
It is also possible to migrate third party ETL implementations based on BW 3.x into the new data-flow concept of a NetWeaver 7.0 (2004s) BI environment using new DataSources, transformations (also new), and data transfer processes (DTP) (also new). This is possible because the system provides an emulated view for BW 3.x DataSources, which makes it possible to combine them with NetWeaver 7.0 (2004s) transformations and DTPs for regular batch load processing (this does not include direct access and real-time data acquisition (RDA)).
This allows the benefits of the new data loading concept to be made available in such third party ETL-based loading scenarios
    Hope it Helps

  • Starting to think about running legacy applications in the cloud

Many organizations' mission-critical applications run on servers located on-premises, or maybe in a data center offsite. Some IT managers resist the notion of moving to cloud-based applications because they're not sure they'll be able to manage applications where they can't diagnose problems with either the hardware or the software. But according to a Telstra surveycited in The Register, cloud computing has a number of benefits for organizations, including improving security, improving efficiency, and reducing costs. The article talks about common obstacles to a move to the cloud and suggests some ways to address them.Cloud computing use, in the form of IaaS or PaaS, is more common among enterprises than SMBs.RightScale's State of the Cloud surveyshows 88% of enterprises are already using the public cloud in some form. Hello Aswin & Siva,
This sounds like an interesting application! There are a couple of points I'd like to address to answer your questions:
    1. Provided the radio modem is "transparent" to the COM ports, you should be able to treat this like any other serial/VISA application in LabVIEW. There are numerous examples of communicating serially with LabVIEW, most of which are included with LabVIEW itself (Help >> Find Examples...)
    2. The tricky part is what you mean by "foreground" and "background." If an application is in the background, is it running at all? If so, what is it doing? What (if any) resources are the two applications sharing (besides the serial port)? VI Server may be the best option you have for controlling which application is running. I would recommend one "framework" VI that is always running and communicating with the serial port. Use this framework VI then to control and pass parameters to and from the other two VI's.
    3. There is a tutorial on our website that discusses a communication architecture for TCP/IP communication. While this does not address your application directly, you could replace the TCP/IP VI's with VISA VI's quite readily as they both use strings to read and write data. You can find it here:
    http://zone.ni.com/devzone/conceptd.nsf/webmain/CD63FD0F746B17A686256F090065F572
Using a command architecture such as this you could control your applications remotely.
I hope this helps some. With more information on "foreground" and "background" I may be able to better answer your question. Have a good one!

  • Reworking a legacy Project that has a .air generated application

    Hi,
I am new to the Adobe SW solutions and have a few basic questions.
    Background.
The small company where I now work has a software team of 1, and that is now me.
In 2011 a previous Developer here created a .air target application that was delivered to customers and is currently still in use.
Some aspects of this application never worked properly and I have been tasked with fixing this.
From my investigation it seems the problems are limited to incorrect queries on the database so hopefully it should not be so hard.
The previous development was done on a personal Macbook so this is gone and I need to start new.
I have imported the project into FB 4.7 and am in process of understanding what is there, the structure and how it has been developed.
    Questions.
    1. Is Flash Builder the correct tool to build a .air application?
    2. I have just started the trial with Flash Builder 4.7 Premium 64 bit. Assuming the answer to Qu1 is affirmative then the company will buy the license just I need to advise whether we need the standard or premium version and right now I dont know how to decide. What specifics should I be concentrating on when making my recommendation?
    3. When I develop with 64 bit FB can I generate an application for a 32 bit target machine?
    4. Could there an impact on the legacy application if the customer installed Adobe Air is updated to the current version?
    Regards,

    Dear Frank,
I was deploying from Jdeveloper (as described in Hello World tutorial) where we need to specify an EAR file name and also include the taskflow (Also the view controller in this case) project.
The model project is referenced from view controller as a project dependency.
Thanks a lot for your reply.
    War regards,
    Sam

  • SSO to Form Based Application

Has Access Manager yet added the ability to do "form memory" for easy SSO integration to applications performing form based authentication. This is a feature found in products such as Netegrity Siteminder and CA's stuff.
This is easier for legacy applications with closed code than trying to modify the login sequences for these applications.

    Hello Romano,
thank you for assisting so much.
Yes, the text itself is always new, but when i believe what it is saying, the content following is not new.
Or do i only mis-interpret the meaning of that text ? Does it perhaps analogously  mean: "He User, the content you see was just fresh constructed and cached in the ApplicationCache and then sent to you" or .
I also found the "com.sap.portal.httpconnectivity.urlfetcherservice" and played with it, but with that i achieve cache settings for all applications used and not for only the one i would like it for.
I posted this also in category "Portal Content Development",
URL iview Cache -> How can i empty the ApplicationCache
and there are also interesting answers.
    Kind regards
