Legacy on GarageBand

I am using the iMac (24-inch, Early 2009) 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, OS X Yosemite version 10.10.1
I recently reset my iMac because it was terribly slow.  Now that it is up and running again, it is still slow and my GarageBand does not have the "Legacy" option in the Library.  It used to have it before I reset the iMac and I would use it (the Legacy opt.) whenever I was using GarageBand.  How can I access that option again?  Thank You.

Do you mean by "Reset your Mac" you reinstalled the system?
my GarageBand does not have the "Legacy" option in the Library.
The Legacy option is showing you sounds from GarageBand '11 or Logic Pro, if you are having these applications installed. I suspect, whatever you did when resetting, will have erased the Instrument Library, and when you reinstalled GarageBand 10, you did not reinstall GarageBand '11 as well.  To use the Legacy instruments and loops, install GarageBAnd '11 again,or restore the missing instruments from your backup.
Restore
all missing loops from /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/
all missing sounds from  /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Instrument Library/

  • Please help. I cannot seem to find the legacy section in the new GarageBand 10.0.2 version.

This is a brand new MacBook Pro and it came with the newest version of GarageBand already installed. I would really like access to the older version of GarageBand so I can use the vocal effects like Vocal Transformer and Chorus. I had this version on my old mac but that mac was stolen so I am starting completely over. I have seen a lot about the "legacy" tab that is supposed to show up in the library section, but for some reason, after I did that in-app purchase, that section has disappeared. If anyone can offer any help at all that would be amazing. Thank you so much in advance!

but for some reason, after I did that in-app purchase, that section has disappeared.
After the in-app purchase you have many more patches in your library. This way, the "Legacy" may have been scrolled out of view. Scroll the library pane upwards to reveal the patches at the bottom of the pane.
To scroll the pane, drag it upwards or use the scroll bars.
Only, GarageBand does not show any scrollbars, if they are not enabled in the System Preferences > General. Either enable the scroll bars there or simply try to drag the Library panel upward, even without the scrollbars showing. Or enable the scrollbars like shown below and scroll all the way up  and to the left.
Instead of scrolling, you could also simply type "Legacy" into the search field on top of the library inspector pane (highlihted in Blue n the screenshot above).

  • Legacy tab missing (garageband)

    Hey guys,
I recently purchased a new macbook, and i no longer have a legacy tab in my garageband. After doing some searching here, it seems the solution would be to re-install a legacy version of garageband on my new machine. The problem is that the latest version i had on my old imac (before upgrading to Garageband 10) was Garageband 4. That worked just fine to make the legacy tab appear on my old imac, but I have no way of installing GB4 on my new macbook. (all the installers are too old and seem to be no longer compatible). Is there any way i can regain access to my legacy sounds on this new macbook?
    thanx

I don't know why this tab isn't showng for me.
Do you have any legacy instruments installed? If you never had GarageBand '11, JamPacks, MainStage, or Logic installed, you will have no "Legacy" instruments inherited from earlier installations.
If you have access to an GarageBand '11 installation or installer (e.g. iLife '11 installer DVD), install GarageBand '11 to get the Sound Effect Instruments.

  • TS5249 Problems with the Korg Legacy Collection in the new version of Garageband in Mavericks.

    Hello!
I'm having problems with the Korg Legacy Collection in the new version of Garageband in Mavericks. When I try to load the AU, I get this error message:
"Failed to load Audio Unit, please contact the manufacturer for an updated version or further assistance. (-10110)"
They seem to work fine in Ableton Live 8 Lite, also running in Mavericks. So, I think it is something with Garageband. In addition, Korg updated to 64bit early last year.
Anyone know how to fix the problem? Or is Korg or Apple's problem?
    Thanks.

They seem to work fine in Ableton Live 8 Lite, also running in Mavericks. So, I think it is something with Garageband. In addition, Korg updated to 64bit early last year.
Have you checked, if you have the newest 64-bit version installed? There may still be an older version sitting around - check both plug-in folders, the one in your Home folder and the one in the system library:
    ~/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/
    /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/
Some programs may still be able to use 64-bit plug-ins, but GarageBand will not use them:  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5249

  • Garageband 10.0.1 - no "legacy", no way to drag samples to musical typing??

All I have on my MacBook is Garageband 10.0.1, no previous versions.  It is a legit copy, and I've purchased all the additional loops, sounds, etc....I'm simply trying to drag a loop or .mp3 sound onto a key on the "musical typing" screen to play it, either using the musical typing or from my Midi controller.  It will not let me drag any sound from the loop finder, a track, or my desktop onto any key.  I've searched and searched, and everyone says to go into the "Legacy" library and use a sound effet track, but I don't have any "legacy" library.....Help?!?

I think you already said this, but what I do is drag it from my desktop (or wherever it may be), into the track. Once it's on the track I open up the "Musical Typing" and then drag it from the track onto the key. I'm also having an issue with the legacy instruments. I wiped my Mac and reinstalled Mavericks along with Garageband and all the iLife stuff from the App store and now I no longer have legacy instruments even after restoring my $4.99 purchase. I won't use GB until I get the legacy stuff back.

  • Legacy Folder for GarageBand 10

Hello.  My macbook pro did not have an older version of GarageBand prior to updating to Yosemite.  Is it still possible to download to retrieve the Legacy sound files from a clean install of GarageBand or is it only available if I had a previous version?  I also do not see an option to select in-app purchases or at the very least do not know where to find it in the menu.
    Thank you.

Is it still possible to download to retrieve the Legacy sound files from a clean install of GarageBand or is it only available if I had a previous version?
You cannot buy the older version of GarageBand from the AppStore, if your version of MacOS X supports the new version.
You can buy an iLife '11 installer DVD from Amazon or eBay, if you can find one. This will install the Legacy Instruments. But it is rather involved, since the GarageBand '11 version from the installer  disk does not directly run and will need updating.  See this discussion:
How do I revert to older version of Garageband?
I also do not see an option to select in-app purchases or at the very least do not know where to find it in the menu.
The in-app purchase was avalable in the early versions of GarageBand 10. Now the additional sounds are free, because the app is no longer free. The initial purchase includes the additional sounds.   You start the download from GarageBand's main menu bar:    GarageBand > Restore Sound Library  or Download additional Sounds.

  • GarageBand legacy library files?

On my computer, I have had previous versions of GarageBand installed, so I have legacy elements available for me to use. My bandmate has a newer laptop, so he's only had GarageBand 10. I am trying to find a way to update our libraries so we have the same things available. Otherwise, I try to pass a mix over to him and there are instruments & effects missing, etc.
I dug around the library folders and don't see anything obvious. Can this be done? I tried launching GarageBand 5.1 on his laptop (I archived it) to see if it would load and it just crashes.
    Thanks in advance!

Library files can be stored anywhere you want on the middle tier so long as you reference the path in the FORMS90_PATH variable in the .env file.

  • Why does my new garageband 10.0.03 not have the legacy with sound effects or radio sound preset or applause preset???? I need these to be able to chop samples into the keyboard keys by dragging and dropping them into the keys.

I am just trying to chop samples and drop them into a track with legacy-sound effects- radio sounds, so that I can play with them and chop them onto keys. I see a bunch of videos on youtube showing you how to do it, but I can't find those kits on the newest garageband.

All these effects are part of the loops in the iLife Sound effects loop package, that was a part of the application bundle iLIfe '11 (iPhoto. iMovie, GarageBand '11).  These loops are neither installed by GarageBand 10.0 or GarageBand '11, nor MacOs X, you need an iLife '11 installer disk to get these loops.
And GarageBand 10 also does not have the Sound Effects instruments any longer, that let you drag samples onto keys. It is one of the sorely missed features, that have been discontinued in the new version GarageBand 10. even if you install the previous version, GarageBAnd '11, to add the Sound effects instrument to GarageBand 10. it will not work properly, because GarageBand 10 will not save the custom instrument with the samples. You will have to complete your song in one session, without quitting GarageBand.
You may want to send feedback to the Apple Developers about these missing features with a feature request:   Apple - GarageBand Mac- Feedback

  • Unable to add a new track in Garageband 10.0.2

Hi, I'm using the latest version of Mavericks and Garageband 10.0.2. I'm unable to add a new track.
I repeatedly hit the + button, I go into the menu and hit "add a new track," I try to use keyboard shortcuts, and nothing seems to work.
Yesterday when I tried to create an "empty project," it wouldn't allow me to start the session, instead it gave me this error code, "The specified number of tracks could not be created. Reduce the number of tracks to create, then try again."
I restarted my computer and tried again today, and I don't get the same error, but am still not able to add tracks. Not sure what's going on. Restarted it a couple of times and I'm still getting the same issue.
    Any help would be awesome.

    'musical typing keys'
The musical typing is a legacy instrument from GarageBand '11.  You can use it, and drop samples to the keys, but GarageBand 10.0 does not save the patch.   If you still have GarageBand '11 installed, create the custom sampler instrument in GarageBand '11 and save it there. It will appear in the library in the "User Channel Strip Section" category.

  • Can I install GarageBand 5.1 on an iMac running OS X 10.9.5 and also has GB 10.0.2?

I lost my computer to a lightning strike and the replacement computer came with GB 10.0.2. It works fine and I want to keep it working, but I lost the legacy instruments at the same time and there were a few of those that I used regularly. I found a dmg for installing garageband 5.1 and wondered if I could install it so I had access to the legacy instruments in 10.0.2. However, I don't know if attempting to do so could cause some unexpected nasty things to occur. Any ideas out there?

  • How do I get the Jam Pack instruments downloaded from mainstage 3 to show up in Garageband '11?

I downloaded and installed Mainstage 3 to be able to download the jam pack instruments and loops that come with it and use them in Garageband '11. I read that I can use the software instruments in the program, however none of the jam packs I downloaded show up in the list of software instruments in Garageband.
I clicked on the menu which tells me if I want to display 'Garageband','my settings' or 'All' of the instruments, but no 'Jam Pack' option shows up.
how do I get the jam pack instruments to show up in Garageband? I want to know how you import the instruments in the program.

It looks like nobody here is already using Mainstage 3 with GarageBand, since there is no need to upgrade from mainstage 2 while it is still working. What you are reading here on Mainstage, JamPacks, and GB has been tested with Mainstage 2 but not 3.
Did you download all contents for Mainstage? WIth Mainstage 2 the JamPAcks were part of a separate download. Launch Mainstage 3, and check, if there is a menu entry somewhere that will let you download additional contents. If you do not see any JamPacks directly, they may be bundled with "Logic" or "Legacy" items.
In Mainstage 2 it looks like this. Your version probably has a different panel.
Once everything has been installed, reboot.

  • ? why ?32 bit ? Legacy Jam Packs Work in GB v.10.x

    Hello,
I am running OSX 10.9.3 on a Mid Summer 2010 iMac , Prior I had installed Jam Pack One (non genre ) in the Version of Garageband (5.1)  that was installed on my iMac (and mine came with OSX 10.6.4 + 2 install disks, Operating System and Applications )  I updated from Snow Leopard OSX 10.6.9 to Maverick (Never installing or buying Lion or Mountain Lion ) I downloaded Gargeband Version 10 and its updates as well as the additional content
    for $4.99.
I read that MainStage 3 contains (beside its content ) the Apple Jam Packs but in 64 bit mode (and MainStage works
with Garageband V 10.x as well as Logic X . For the cost MainStage 3 appears a very reasonable price
( I do have 4 un opened Jam Packs Remix, Symphony, Rythmn and Voices (all but World Instruments )
I am mainly interested in the Virtual Instruments , more than loops (as well as AU, effects amps, pedals but can use real instruments as well Guitar-effects-amp-mic via Audio Interface Focusrite Scarlett 2i2
    But have read + and - comments on MainStage , I added ram (was 4GB now 12GB ) 4GB x 2 2GB x2
and plenty of HD space , dual core 3.06GHz . Just puzzled why the Jam Pack (I added to GB V 5.1 works (Virtual Instruments , under Legacy (and assuming the Jam Pack is 32 bit (When I bought it first was using it with a eMac
1.25GHz 1.0GB ram  , I considered adding one jam pack (Remix or Symphony) to GB 5.1 but would rather keep them sealed for potential sale down the road, I took off time recording, playing due to one spine surgery then two knee surgeries Thanks in advance ,

    Hangtime
Just a fyi, it WORKED ! No Error Message (other than some read files were not able to open, but installers ran
    just right !
I added 4 for 4 Apple Jam Packs Remix-Symphony -Rynthmn and Voices ! All from sealed boxes I had bought
awhile back from a Apple Reseller who annually or sometimes x2 has a online "Garage-Sale" Paid no where
what retail would have back in the day (I did buy Jam Pack 1 non-genre for full price , when using a e-Mac
and it was >$95.00 . These all tested and pull-show up under Legacy as did Jam Pack 1
Thanks for the advice , I was going to d-load and pay for MainStage 3.x but will not now

  • I'm trying to save a custom patch in Garageband 10.0.2. Even though the new patch is saved and listed, when i re-open GB it's either reverted back to what it was previously or is blank.

    Hi,
I'm finding it really frustrating to save a custom patch in Garage Band 10.0.2. I'm assigning new sounds to keys using the 'musical typing keys' and saving the patch. When I re-open Garage Band, the patch name is saved but all the information has reverted back to the original sounds OR it is completly blank. Can anyone help?
    R

    'musical typing keys'
The musical typing is a legacy instrument from GarageBand '11.  You can use it, and drop samples to the keys, but GarageBand 10.0 does not save the patch.   If you still have GarageBand '11 installed, create the custom sampler instrument in GarageBand '11 and save it there. It will appear in the library in the "User Channel Strip Section" category.

  • Will Toneport ux1 work with Garageband

I realize this may be a Line 6 support question, but here it goes...
I have the ux1 and i've downloaded all the software from the line 6 website but it doesn't recognize the interface as authorized. My goal was to use the interface for garageband. Will it work?
I also saw on another thread that i can use the headphone jack on my macbook as an audio input and use a 3.5m to 1/4" cord and Garageband will recognize it without having to do anything but change some system prefences.
Is the line 6 worth the hassle? Can i get decent sound quality with the cable? Thanks.

You should have no problem.  I have had the orignial Toneport UX1 (http://line6.com/legacy/toneportux1) for several years and I am currently using it on my iMac running Snow Leopard.  I just checked the Line6 website and there seems to be an updated driver for Lion.  Will give it a try on my Macbook Pro before I upgrade my iMac though.
What sort of error message are you getting?  You have to assign the input/output in Sound Preferences and also within Garageband.

  • What exactly is in the in-app purchase in the new Garageband?

I've found that the lessons in the old version of Garageband are the same as the new one. If you have the old verison and donwload the lessons from it, you also have the lessons for the new version without paying extra. Likewise, it seems, with many of the extra instruments, loops, and sounds.
My question is: Other than the extra drummers, which are new features, what do you get in the new Garageband in-app purchase that wasn't in the old Garageband? Are there new instruments, loops, and sounds?
    Thanks
    Bob
Note: I did post this question in a reply in this thread https://discussions.apple.com/message/23553002#23553002 but thought it deserved a opic of its own.

I think I can answer my own question. There are a fair number of instruments that are available. I also found that all of the older Garageband instruments are available. At the bottom of the instruments list is a Legacy category. So whether you need all the new ones if you already have the old ones is up to you. I expect that it's the same for the extra loops.
