Legal consequences of sticking a WES2009 license in a WES7E sytem.

Dear Sirs,
Which are the legal consequences of sticking a WES2009 license in a system with WES7E system installed?
Is there any possibility to license a WES7 with other embedded license? Is also possible a WES8 license?
Thanks in advance for your support.
Best Regards,
Ruben Perez.

First of all: Your local distributor should be able to give you all information regarding correct licensing. But they never should/will approve or allow you something that violates your CLA or their contracts .They can loose their right to deal with MS products
if they do so.
There was something about downgrade rights for "common" System Bilder (or similar) licenses in meaning of having Windows 7-Sticker on the device but running - for example - Windows XP. AFAIK this is also possible with Windows Embedded, but only
if this was agreed with MS in the CLA/ATs. But this, if ever, applies only to the DTOS (Desktop operating system).
The "real" embedded systems like WES7 and WES2009 must have to appropriate sticker attached to the device. I will wonder if I'm wrong with that.
About legal consequences: You violate the terms of your CLA if you do so! This means that
you may loose any rights granted to you within the CLA. That's a fact. Your CLA should contain some phrases that tell about consequences.
If MS will connive at the fact that you paid "something"... but I would not rely on that.
In short terms: DON'T DO THAT unless MS permits you to do so EXCLUSIVELY!

    Access object: License Master
    Key (license nubmer): xxxxx
    Validity period not long enough
Requested delivery date for item: 02/20/2012
End of validity period of license: 1231/2011
    License cannot be used
The license has the period Valid From 01-01-2011 To 31-12-2011, can this be modified? please advise.
we tried to extend the validity of license but it is not allowing. can anyone give some inputs on this error.
    Thanks,
    Rajam

    Hi Abir,
In my situation, the sales order already creted in Dec 2011 and has delivery dates in Jan 2012. And the SO has GTS error and unable create delivery, business user releasing the SO manually by going to VX22N for emergency deliveries. but we need permanent solution.
the license is created under License type NLR (no license required). i dont think, user will accept for creating a new license for this as it is using for couple of years. we are trying to extend the validity of license by going to VX02N but valid From and To fields are greyed out. we also checked the Accepted and Extended fields in Status Tab by giving the future dates but Valid From and To dates are not changed.
    Please advise...
    Thanks in advance.

  • As a student in the UK, would I be able to legally use a CS5.5 student license for commercial use?

And if so, will I be able to continue using it commercially when I am no longer a student?
If you are able to answer, please cite a source.
    Thanks!

I read over the product license agreement for flash, I couldn't find anything about the student version. I have done a bit of research, and according to this site I can use the student and teacher editions commercially. However I'm unsure of whether this applies to the UK. I realise you won't have the answers, but could you possibly point me in the right direction? For instance, is there anywhere on the site that would allow me to talk with an actual adobe representative?
    Thanks for the reply!

  • Legal Consequences of Wireless Break-Ins

I have a customer that I set up with a wireless network several years ago. At the time their house was all on it's own in the middle of nowhere in a rural area, with the nearest house a good mile away. So I didn't put any security on their network.
In the meantime a half dozen houses have been built nearby and someone was using their wireless network. This was discovered because they have a monthly bandwidth cap with their satellite account and they went over.
When that was discovered I put on a WEP password (at that time they were running Panther). It was discovered recently that the neighbor broke the WEP key and started to use the wireless again!
This time I put on a strong WPA2 password and enabled MAC filtering.
If the neighbor breaks in to the wireless again, I am wondering what legal steps can be taken. Are there modern laws to address this? I expect it would be federal.

Wow, what a story, and that they even broke back in. What balls.. I'd leave it open again, and then I have heard their are programs that can view unlooked WiFi data. Then maybe you could figure out what neighbor it is and send the cops to their door.
But it depends on state law I believe. There was a story a while ago about a guy getting arrested for sitting in his car outside of a coffee shop while he was using their WiFi. If he had just stepped inside, he would have been fine. He was charged in fact.

  • XP Pro license key on sticker is not valid

    Hi,
I have a HP desktop machine with window XP Pro license sticker on it. System hard disk is not working anymore and i need to reinstall the xp pro on new hard disk.
I don't have any xp installation cd with me, i have tried the xp pro installation cd from my friend but it is not accepting the license key given on the sticker.
What are my options? I have heard that microsof can issue a new license key as long as motherboard has not been changed.

If you do not have the Original OS disc for that computer, you can`t do anything. Every license is keyed to the disc/computer it came with. If you had the disc, then you could call microsoft and ask them for a new License for free, so you could reinstall
on your computer or any computer. But only 1 OS license per computer, This is the only exception to the rule. Example: if my computer stopped working and had to get another computer, or replace the hard drive, I can use My existing XP OS from my original computer/harddrive,
in most cases the license wil not work, that`s why you have to call for a new license for your existing original Legal copy of XP, disc, and license.
So using your friends will not work. Unless you use his license, but that would render his computer usless.

  • What is the license for an App Store App?  In-App Purchase?  Re-downloads?

    Hello All!
I purchased an iPhone 3G when they initially came out. My wife bought one (and uses my iTunes account on it exclusively) about six months later. I couldn't find and understand what the licensing agreement was about installing the same app on multiple devices. I wanted to be legal and do it right, but I knew I could download the same app on both phones (with a single purchase) since they both use the same iTunes account.
I asked the iTunes store support via e-mail for a clarification of the policy since I couldn't find or understand the legal version of application licensing through the iTunes store on the Apple website. I got the run-around and no simple yes or no answer after several back and forth replies. So, I posted a message here and received a number of replies telling me that it was legal (not just possible, but LEGAL according to the EULA and the iTunes Store's licensing agreement -- which does vary considerably with each type of product sold). I proceeded accordingly since then based on that information, since I couldn't get a simple yes or no answer from iTunes Support about the really simple question I asked them. I was just attacked about my total ignorance on a different website by a user when I questioned the change in In-App purchase policies. I know Apple has seen a spike in these purchases, but it's been driven (quite literally) by the GPS app subscriptions, not true in-app product purchases.
Up until now, I've avoided in-app purchaes because I just didn't like the fact that if it was lost due to some failure in hardware (or backups not working correctly, as that was a real problem with the iTunes software for some time for me), I had no ability to re-download it again, like the app itself. Now, with the policy change allowing for developers to avoid having to make a Lite version and make buying the full version an in-app purchase, this will make it unavoidable for certain applications if I want the full version.
*So, I've got several questions, and would appreciate an Apple employee response, in addition to others who really know (and aren't just doing what is possible). Is it legal for a purchased app to be installed on multiple devices concurrently? If that is legal, can an in-app purchase be installed on multiple devices concurrently (and is possible to make this download without additional charges)? And finally, can in-app purchaes be downloaded again if there is a hardware failure (and no valid backup to restore from) or do I have to buy it all over? If that last question has an answer of no, it's going to help me determine who I buy from.*
I'm not a fan of these in-app purchases since they weren't re-downloadable when problems occurred (as least that's what I was told), so as I said, I've avoided them. Obviously, I'm going to have to change that policy, but I want to know that my purchases will be safe. I like seeing the app on my computer's hard drive as a real file (and in iTunes as a listed application).
I'd appreciate someone clearing this up for me as I took the first time I asked as a basis for my decisions since then and now I'm being told that was all wrong. I wish there was a simple link, in non-legal terminology, that would explain the licensing rights for each type of product being sold in the iTunes store on the Apple website itself. If there is such a place, iTunes Support should have told me about that when I contacted them in the first place when my wife first got her phone (but instead, I had to get answers here because it seemed like Apple's support is just automated computers guessing at appropriate responses to questions). It was such a simple question and I couldn't get an answer, even after 2 or 3 back and forth replies. It was rediculous!
Would someone please clear this up for me?
    Thanks!
    Jim

    @wjosten:
I really appreciate your input, but I'd like an Apple employee response to rest my hat on (like JasonL, who has responded to my posts previously -- his user account is marked with an Apple icon and says Apple Employee on it). I know it's not official, but after getting attacked on another website for this question, I knew I had to head here. I couldn't get straight answer from Apple's iTunes Store Support, so I wanted to have someone attached to Apple sticking their neck out.
*A few questions for you, though, with the in-app purchases of both subsciptions (like with the GPS apps) and product additions, since I've never used them before because of fear of losing them. When you make an in-app purchase, and then I want to put it on my wife's phone, does it come up the same box saying it's free to download because you've already purchased it? How does this work with subscriptions, which would have to update the developer's servers somehow (to know how long to provide a service for)? I have MotionX GPS and need a subscription for esentially the app to work fully. I'm still in the 30-day free window, but it's not installed on my wife's phone. If I want to continue the service, will I be able to buy one subscription and just re-download it on her phone (and it would give her phone the same expiration date for her service from them)? Would it just update MotionX's system when the initial purchase is made and any additional downloads would be ignored (as long as they were made under my iTunes account)? This is particularly confusing because MotionX says you can stack subscriptions, so I would think each download would have to be paid for in order to do this. See what I mean?*
*I know about music being non-redownloadable, but also thought the same was true for all media except for apps (movies, TV shows, etc.). Is that also not true? It's not a big issue for me, since I don't get most of my media from iTunes, but I'd like to know the right answers when I do.*
Thanks for helping someone who doesn't understand Apple's SLA's or how to find them online on their system. Yes, I'm a PC, but am considering a Mac for the near future, but I've never had a lot of luck finding information in Apple's support knowledgebase at all. Microsoft's KB works better, but it just may be I'm used to it since I've used it for almost 20 years. I've only been using Apple's for going on 15 months.
Really, if you can clear up these other questions, I'd be happy to call it solved. I appreciate it a bunch!
    Take care!
    Jim

  • Automatic license provisioning, what im doing wrong?

Im admin on a Internet Cafe. I have problems with customers installing viruses, keyloggers, crap, password stealers and such on our computers.
To maximize the security, I did decide to set up a iSCSI server, with one central image ("golden master image") and 20 "cow" images that are deleted each reboot of the actual computer. The computers boots using gPXE and the computers
    are completely diskless.
This also makes it easier to update, only one computer needs to be updated (in "personell mode" or "admin mode") and then every computer is updated since every computer boots the exact same read-only image. All writes are redirected to
the "cow" image, which are subsuquently deleted when the computer is shutdown, causing the PC to reset to a pristine state.
Now to the bizarre licensing problem:
I have 20 legally valid and purchased WINDOWS 7 license keys - NON VOLUME KEYS, ONE SINGLE KEY PER COMPUTER.
Since each computer boots the exact same image, the licenses must be "provisioned" into the computer
after the initial boot. This must happen
each reboot because the computes do not have write rights, so pc1 gets its license files and activation files that belong to pc1, pc2 gets its activation files and so on.
    So what I have done:
I have activated each PC one by one. For each activated PC, I copyed:
    C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\Appdata\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform\tokens.dat
    C:\Windows\System32\spp\tokens\pkeyconfig\pkeyconfig.xrm-ms
    C:\Windows\SysWOW64\spp\tokens\pkeyconfig\pkeyconfig.xrm-ms
to the server (192.168.1.2) and ask it to serve the "correct" tokens.dat and pkeyconfig.xrm-ms, and correct Windows License Key, based on the IP adress doing the request, so if 192.168.1.101 ask for licenses, I serve them the license files
"coming" from PC1, if 192.168.1.102 ask for license, I serve them the files for PC2 and so on.
the FSO.GetTempName is a attempt from me to prevent caching by making sure the URL is unique each time.

Checking the "PRODUCT ID", it reveals that the windows are running on the license belongning to the PC that the system was last set in "ADMIN" mode on. (eg the last license that was permanently written to disk)
If I run the above script again, then windows become fully activated.
Now checking the "PRODUCT ID", it reveals that the correct license are being used.
It seems that windows licensing are caching something, but what? Or im doing something in the incorrect order.
Im are deleting "C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform\Cache\cache.dat" but still it caches something somewhere.
    Whats the problem?

    Hi,
It may be the issue with your script.
In order to get better solution, I recommend you go to MSDN scripting forum. They can provide you with more valuable suggestions.

  • Need license key

Recently during BIOS upgrade my Windows 8.1 installation for Aspire E5-411G-P717 notebook was damaged and recovery would not be allowed because the windows install partition was blocked. So, I resorted to the only known way to recover by using GPARTED to delete the partitions and doing a fresh Win8.1 reinstall. Windows 8.1 now asks me to update the license key but the computer never came with a sticker with a license key. So, I'd like Acer's help with this. I contacted Acer outlet at Amazon (the seller) for help but they don't keep any such information.
So, I'm stuck - I paid for the win8.1 x64 license when I purchased my computer but now I don't have the license key to register the windows with Microsoft and use it fully because some Win8.1 features are only available after it's registered.
How can Acer help? I'm sure I'm not the first customer with this issue given that Acer has had BIOS upgrade issues (I've been following the forums on Acer) and Acer does not provide Win8.1 license info on a sticker like it used to be.
Thanks in advance for your help. I cna provide Serial# and any other details as well as proof of purchase if needed to track my device. I bought it 5 weeks back from Amazon with Acer outlet as the seller (my notebook was sold as refurbished).

No machine released with Windows 8 from vendor will come with a Windows 8 License sticker underneath, regardless of the brand. This is one of  Microsoft's security measures to reduce piracy. This is a new Microsoft initiative.  The Product key is electronically stored in the firmware of your mainboard. So if you need to reset or reinstall Windows 8, you don't need to hunt for the product key. It's automatically applied and activated. That's certainly a plus, especially when the numbers on those product key stickers wear out or are just too small to easily read.  You need to get the recovery media and restore the same OEM version of windows shipped wiht your computer to activate windows without product key.  Click the Kudos to say “Thanks” for helping! select "Accept Solution" if your issue is resovled.

  • Legal Issues & Skype Alternatives

    Hello,
There is a range of issues with Skype/Microsoft which are quite important at this time. I am wondering if those issues can be resolved in a legal way, and if the following actions taken by skype, are in fact, withing the law.
The first question is wether the latest move by Skype/Microsoft is actually a lie, or a fraud. From what I have taken out of a legal dictionary (source: http://www.legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/fraud )
"Fraud must be proved by showing that the defendant's actions involved five separate elements: (1) a false statement of a material fact,(2) knowledge on the part of the defendant that the statement is untrue, (3) intent on the part of the defendant to deceive the alleged victim, (4) justifiable reliance by the alleged victim on the statement, and (5) injury to the alleged victim as a result."
Now, with this said, I would like to attract your attention to a recent move made by Skype/Microsoft. As many have probably noticed, as of recent changes, Skype 4.2 is no longer able to run, with an error message claiming that: "Skype is no longer available for your operating system"
According to the above quote, there is 5 out of 5 elements which point to this as a fraud.
    1. A false statement or material fact: This error message has been displayed on Windows 7. Skype IS compatible with Windows 7, thus this is indeed a false statement.
    2. Knowledge on the part of the defendant that the statement is untrue: This is quoted from Skype Software system requirements: "PC running Windows® XP with SP3, Vista, 7, 8 or 8.1 both 32- and 64-bit operating systems." This points out that Skype/Microsoft are fully aware that this statement is untrue.
    3. Intent on the part of the defendant to deceive the alleged victim: It is sufficient to note that Skype Software 6.18 is supported on Windows 7. As such, the error message forced upon Skype Software 4.2 is a deliberate act intending to deceive Skype Software 4.2 users into updating to Skype Software 6.18
    4. Justifiable reliance on the statement by the victim: Unfortunately, Skype Software 4.2 users are indeed forced to rely on this statement, as it is the only "explanation" to the apparent "incompatibility".
    5. Injury to the alleged victim as a result: While the injury is not physical, it is worthy of note that Skype Software 6.18 has a dramatic decrease in performance, audio quality and compatibility. While claiming that Skype Software 6.18 is "an upgrade" to the Software, it's actually a downgrade as it reduces functionality. Numerous bugs, especially with the camera, cause loss of communication, and in an office environment, can cost a working company a lot of damage, as stable communication with Skype Software 4.2 isn't possible anymore.
This leads me to belive that Skype/Microsoft is responsible of Fraud.
It is further worthy of notice that the first element to qualify for fraud not only applies to the blatant lie about Skype Software not being supported on Windows 7, but may also, in part, contain false advertisement which suggests that Skype Software 6.18 is an improvement in the software's quality, while it is quite obvious that starting with Skype Software 4.2, performance of the software has only been degraded.
With this being said, my question is, does Skype/Microsoft's actions, in this particular case qualify as a fraud, false advertisement or a lie without further legal consequences?
With this being said, I no longer feel safe using Skype Software, due to possibility of Fraud and False Advertisement from Skype/Microsoft. My second question is as follows:
Could the users, perhaps, advice any alternative to skype which wouldn't include the following:
    - Blatant lies
    - Fraud
    - False advertisement
    - Forced auto updates embedded into software
    - Fraudulent means to force updates on users who use older version of software
Any help into finding a stable platform for private as well as public and workplace communication which doesn't includes the above mentioned points is very welcome.
Disclaimer : The above statements are not an accusation of Skype/Microsoft, but a mere examination and attempt at understanding the company's action through a legal view. This user doesn't intends to file a lawsuit against Skype/Microsoft even if their actions, indeed, are proved to be illegal.

I've used all the older releases and newer releases of Skype on some pretty humble machines and I haven't seen any major decrease in performance nor glitches that would condemn me from using the software or the service   Anything in regards to message notifications and group handling are generally things that are being tweaked server side as the old p2p method is not being used.  There are bound to be issues due to the changeover since the process has changed and has been upgraded to the new system.  Resource usage or requirements is bound to change over time.  It's inevitable.   The only time I've noticed major differences are on the machines I've run meeting the bare minimum requirements for the OS or Skype making it difficult to run any application made today under load even negating Skype.
If I use your comparison and downgrade wording I might as well condemn all new cars manufactured after the classic era as downgrades to the end of time.  So I guess every car manufacturer can't ever use the word upgrade as they would be lying by your standards.  Maybe they should provide a chart and percentage to how bad it is compared to a classic car.  Let's ignore all the rest of the improvements.
Short and to the point 4.2 is over 4 year old software, it has been retired no matter how superior you believe it to be.  Yes it's possible it ran better on the machines you use because of a smaller footprint, but then again Skype was originally designed to run on older operating systems back then.  It has changed or morphed into a different program all together. It has been upgraded from what is was.     The average computer I run Skype on is 7 years old and has functioned fine in my house where I use Skype as my main phone line and overall communication service (VoIP).  I'm rather pleased with the service and call people all the time using my subscription.
I am a user of the software and I've really had no major issues with the upgrades.  I'm also able to resolve any issues I come across and mitigate many problems by planning ahead of time.  Many users neglect their computers like they do their cars then all of a sudden any last used application is to blame for any problem that befalls them.  People are also resistant to change and believe that their equipment will last them their lifetime without maintenance or upgrades.  Even if the computer lasts, software minimum requirements will always change.  Even computer games have a minimum requirement, and if you compare that with the recommended requirements, the difference is day and night.
The latest versions of Skype are problematic on some people's machines.  They generally can be isolated to particular hardware, software, or connection problems.  I hope the major issues people face are resolved in future releases.  I do speak freely in these forums and have stated Skype countless times that it is by far a perfect program especially in its 6.16/6.18 incarnations.  If I personally don't like a Microsoft owned program, I don't use it.  I had a hard time giving up MS-DOS but have learned to adapt to the changes on system requirements.  Some people love Skype 3.8 over 4.2 for their own varying reasons.  The latest versions of software work for me on any OS I run with my old hardware and any of my relative's hardware.  I really don't have much to complain about or compare and contrast to since it's as stable as it ever was for me.  If I found that was not the case, I would downgrade to 6.14.  This doesn't mean that 6.14 is an upgrade, it's just a more compatible version of the software based on my hardware/software.  In that sense that can be the same case for your company, it still doesn't negate the fact that the latest version isn't an effective upgrade for others.  I see no need for the constant wordplay.

  • Single document release - License type

    Dear all,
We are facing an issue, when rechecking the old import documents which are assigned with License (Created with license type - single document release) are getting legal control block now. The license is not getting recognized for the document.
Before rechecking, the documents were not under any legal control block and the licenses (Single document release - license type) were recognized. What would be the reason behind this? What are the settings to be done specific to single document release- license types?
    Kindly share your comments.
    Thanks in advace!

    Hi Balu,
It also depends on what option was selected when you had manually assigned the licenses to the documents in the past. If it had been B1 System, Manually changed, Cannot be changed by system. This wouldn't have happened.
Now as Aman said, you will have to reassign the licenses to those documents.
I personally feel there is a drawback for Purchase orders in terms of recheck.
Basically a document becomes not valid for re-check or re-determination based on following criteria
    1) If its a sales order item- As soon as the order is delivered, the sales order becomes not relevant for check. Which makes sense as the subsequent document is generated. If you check the log, it would say Items not relevant for check.
    2) If its an outbound delivery item- As soon as the delivery is PGI'd, it becomes not relevant for check.
    3) But for Purchase order- The criteria is set as deletion indicator- Which means, a PO item is relevant for re-check in GTS unless and until it is deleted. Even  if a delivery is generated for a STO line item, the PO item is considered as relevant for re-check. This had bitten me in the past.
If you don't remember the manual assignment option selected. Can you check the control settings for Legal control- your legal regulation and see what's set for Manual assignment default. If it's not B1, you may consider changing it.

  • Block Sales document if License is missing under any license type

    Hi,
We have a scenario where we using multiple license types for a legal regulation. If any license is missing for any license type that determined while screening, the order should be blocked.
For example, For Legal Regulation EAR, we have two License types LTYP1 and LTYP2 and we maintain only License for EAR with LTYP1. During the sales order creation, system screens and found that 2 license types determined. Since 1 license is missing for Legal Regualtion EAR with LTYP2, the order should blocked. But at this moment, system found 1 license with combination EAR with LTYP21 hence it is released.
But when we see the Log, system shows RED indicator against EAR with LTYP2, it means it could not found license for this combination, but the order is released. Our requirement is NOT to release this order and it should determine all the licenses determined for license types
How should we achieved this scenario? Pls help
    Regards,
    Pradeep

I finally managed to find my way through with this issue so for others who might have the same requirement:
    1) Check the check box Check multiple license types under Global Trade Services > Compliance Management > Legal Control > Control Settings for Legal Control
    2) Create an entry for the legal regulation and Code List Object PAPOF under Global Trade Services > Customs Management > Customs Code Lists > Assign Customs Code Lists Procedure to Legal Regulation
    3) Create the issuing authority for the legal regulation under Global Trade Services > Customs Management > Customs Code Lists > Maintain Customs Code Lists for Legal Regulation
    4) Assign the issuing authority to one license type out of two as I've noticed that it won't work if the two license types have the same issuing authority (one created license will release the order).
under Global Trade Services > Compliance Management > Legal Control > Define License Types
    Config done on GTS 10.0

  • Session failed : The terminal services license is invalid

    Hi,
I have one user who receive this message(session failed : The terminal services license is invalid) , all other user work ok.
When the same user try on other desktop he works fine.
I try to delete all cache, cookies on the desktop, i try the "tarantella tscal free" command but the problem is already present.
    Can you help me ?
I run SGD 4.2-909 on Linux RedHat 4.

I understand the licensing model as it pertains to standard connectivity, (i.e. a wintel box using the rdp client to connect directly to the terminal server). <<
But how does the java emulation of the client work? does it also deposit data in the local windows registry regarding TS Cal licensing? Is it static to the workstation used to connect to SGD? <<Should work the same way for Windows clients; the Terminal Services CAL is stored in the local client registry; as I understand it, this is a legal requirement of the RDP source license.
For non-Windows clients, the TSCAL is stored on the server in a license pool, and can be viewed / manipulated with the tarantella tscal command. TS CAL's are allocated to this pool for the TS License service, and handed out to users as necessary. Reading ahead to the next posting, it's possible to get an expired license stuck in this pool, which can cause problems. Using the tscal command, should check to see if there's an expired license in the pool, and if so, delete it.
