Legal Question Concerning XP Home

I hope it is okay to ask this but I couldnt find anything on this using Microsoft's website. I have a single licensed copy of XP I bought 2 years ago, which I installed on my new machine a couple of weeks ago. Last week, I reformatted my older Atlon 1800XP and did a clean install of XP using the same CD. Of course now I have to activate it. I heard that if you used one copy of XP Home on just a couple of machines in your house, it is okay. Is this true, or am I going to have to purchase a new copy. Right now it will not ativitate the 1800XP's copy and I am thinking of calling Microsoft's activiation line to see if they agree to this. If not, I might as well try the 64-bit version for my new AMD64.

But the New-York State Attn. General Decided against it, as them Being Sued was Enough Bad publicity.....Now I dont Claim to know the Laws But my Wife is a Corperate Tax Lawyer. And I thought the Same thing as you when I Read the Article about Brazil, And she started with her BLA-BLA-BLA's, and she made about a dozen Valid points That even I Could Understand ) But the bottom Line is, If Microsoft Gives you ample Notice (And the Article said 6 months) and you don't make any attempt To Pay for Their Property, well then Law says they can Take it Back ..And since this is Not economicaly viable, they just outright Shut the OS Off! ....And if it's all a Terrible mistake, well I read that they will take that chance, Because even if they had to Pay Millions uppon Millions out for Lawsuites, They will get their Point Across and they said the Money that they Would Save By Shutting Down Piracy has the potential to add up to Billions Worldwide.... Question concerning separate home for ASM?

I am running rdbms 10.2.0.3 on linux Itanium and I am using ASM for the database files. I installed the ASM home into the same database home. I now need to install a second database instance on this server and I have been reading everywhere that there should be a separate home for ASM if you are going to running multiple database instances on the same server?
Is this the case and if so does anyone have a good doc that explains how I can change my ASM_HOME now that I already have a database using it?

i also heard about this recommendation however I didn't understand it from beginning. What I think makes sense is to have a separate ORACLE_HOME for ASM when you are running different Oracle releases 10g R2, 11g R1 or whatever. In such a scenario you can always gurantee that ASM version is at least equal or higher. With this you are more flexibel when you need to patch however when you only have one database release I would keep it like it is. At latest with Oracle 11g R2 you will separate DB and ASM software with the newly Grid Infrastructure.

Legal Question - Photoshop in rented computer?

Dear all,
I have a legal question concerning photoshop: I work in a photo equipment rental company, and one of our services is a digital assistance (for capturing/developing images taken with digital cameras). Normally no computer goes out without an operator (assistant), but we are considering renting the computers themselves for photographers who want to capture/develop their own images.
My question is this: would I need a special licence for the above scenario?

Legality questions about Home Sharing

I have some legality questions about Apple's Home Sharing technology.
As I understand it, you can share (that is, copy it from one computer to another) your music, movies, applications and other iTunes-managed files amongst five computers. The only 'trick' is that each computer must have an iTunes Store account and must be logged in in order for it to work.
My question concerns the copying aspect and the legality of it. For content that was purchased through the iTunes Store I can see how Home Sharing can provide a limitation on content sharing, since all of the machines would need to be connected to Apple's servers in order for the validation process to happen. But what about content that was added to iTunes through other means, e.g., ripping my own CDs or converting my DVDs? These items can still be copied via Home Sharing and as there's no DRM on them there's no way they can be protected against "illegal" or "unauthorized" use.
It was my understanding that if I gave a copy of a song to someone else, that's illegal. Apple's Home Sharing technology seems to facilitate this action. If I rip a CD or DVD into iTunes and someone copies it out, isn't that making an illegal copy? Can I be held liable for distribution of content?
And how far does this extend? If I live in a house with four unrelated people, are they legally (?) allowed to copy music and media amongst each another? Is there a perceived or actual difference between using Home Sharing to copy a movie versus, say, using a USB flash drive? And what if one of them moves out? Am I legally obligated to go through that person's hard drive and remove content that they copied from me before they leave the building?
Does Home Sharing somehow retroactively change the copyright application on a given CD or DVD? Most of my CDs and DVDs contain notices and warnings against distributing copies. Can these warnings now be ignored, or at least amended with "...unless you're using iTunes Home Sharing" at the ends of them?
I am not trying to stir up a hornet's nest here. I'm only trying to better understand the legal issues surrounding Home Sharing and particularly how they relate to unprotected content. It seems very contradictory that the RIAA and MPAA would be fighting so hard against peer-to-peer services like BitTorrent and Gnutella while apparently allowing peer-to-peer services through iTunes Home Sharing.
Furthermore, I also understand that the intention of this system was to allow families who are living together to have common access to all of the "household" music, but my issues aren't about this. I envision, for example, a college dorm building where there's several hundred people living together on the same network subnet, and all of them have Home Sharing enabled and everyone is copying thousands and thousands of songs to/from one another. Is this now legal?

RIPping of commercial, encrypted DVDs (most of them) is illegal to begin with. Or rather, breaking the encryption on a DVD is illegal and in order to RIP the DVD, you must break the encryption. SO you have already "broken the law" by having a copy on your computer.

This is exactly what Napster was and why they were sued & shut down.
I imagine Apple lawyers have done their homework as well as consulted with the labels to discuss these exact issues.
And it's called "Home Sharing" to indicate that it is not "Dorm Sharing" or "Workplace Sharing", or even simply "Library Sharing"etc. even though it may be possible to use it in other places than the Home.
Users on other computers need to know your iTunes ID and password to enable it Home Sharing. Likely this is how Apple got the lables to be okay with it.
Are you gonna give (and get) dozens/hundreds/thousands/any other users your iTunesID & password?

Question concerning Tiger installation

currently I have OS X 10.2.8 and most recently I bought tiger...I have a question concerning the installation process. I inserted the disk and completed the first couple of installation steps and when I get to the 3rd step to choose a hard dive to install the operating system on, my slave drive is the only option that appears, not my mac hd drive that already has the current operating system on it...should i install tiger on my slave drive or is there a way to get my home drive as an option?? I have more available space on my mac hd drive and would say that it is the main drive that contains all the information to run this computer....
any info on this matter would be greatly appreciated.....peter

(1) The ORACLE_HOME in the file should be the ORACLE_HOME for HTTP SERVER, not the one for database, right?

1) right, OHS should be installed in separate home then db
2) not right...in OHS there is no TNS entry...frankly there is no "/ADMIN" dir at all! In db ORACLE_HOEM TNS entry is irrelevant for OHS...it looks the same before and after instlation of OHS.
3) On my server "httpd.pid" is in "C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_2\Apache\Apache\logs" and content is "2272". There is reference in httpd.conf file "PidFile logs/httpd.pid". I have never touched or reconfigured it by myself, httpd.conf is customized by instalation of apex!

At the moment when you open a RAW-file from Adobe Bridge by double-clicking, RAW-file is opened only in Photoshop. In the settings Adobe Bridge - in "open RAW-files by double-clicking in Adobe Camera Raw» box is checked. When you try any changes in the settings Adobe Bridge system displays a message:
Bridge's parent application is not active. Bridge requires that a qualifying product has been launched at least once to enable this feature.
The entire line of Adobe products on my computer updated to the latest updates. Previously, a family of products Adobe Photoshop on your computer is not set. Computer - PC, Windows 7 Enterprises.

Master iPad configurator question concerning cart syncing with different versions of iPads.

I have a question concerning configurator syncing.Can the master iPad be a different version of iPad than the other synced iPads? For instance can iPad 2 be the master iPad to a group of iPad Air's? The iPad 2 has some fewer capabilities than the Air, would some settings or restrictions be left off of the iPad Airs if they were set up this way? Thanks.

There is no such thing as 'master iPad'. If you're using Configurator or Profile Manager control of the setup is done from a Macintosh.

I am deciding on my first IBM, a T400 or T500
I have a few questions concerning the Think Vantage Function:
a) Does the recovery DVD set back the hard drive partitions to factory settings?
b) Does the Think Vantage function set back the hard drive partitions to factory settings?
This means the original size of the partitions, when they have been changed manually.
c) Does Think Vantage work with a self buyed Windows Vista?
d) Does Think Vantage work unter Windows XP
e) Does Think Vantage need drivers/ anything else to work or is it entirly working on the hardware side, so no software/ windows is needed
f)Will Think Vantage work under Windows 7 in a T400/500
g) How was the past situation? Did a under Windows XP working Think Vantage also work on Vista / have there been drivers delivered, when needed, for the new OS
h) Is it possible to set up a new OS (like Vista Ultimate) and then backup it up on a external hard drive and later recover from this?
What do I want to achieve?
I want to recover the factory settings at all times, this means partition size, number of partitions etc. and Windows Vista Business. Then I want to install Vista Ultimate do my settings and backing it up to an external drive or whatever and then recover from that all 3 Months. In the end I should be able to set back factory settings with the earliest/ first backup from Windows Business; Furthermore I might want to install Windows 7 sometimes.

I got some questions concerning Simple Transformations:
1.) When editing a simple transformation, how to insert comments? In pure ABAP, a comment line must have as asterisk in the first column...
2.) I use <tt:loop>...</tt:loop> and want to use the index of the currently processed entry, like SY-TABIX when implementing a "LOOP AT itab" in ABAP. Is there a way?

With the simple transformation tt cond statment you can make an XML tag optional. In below example during deserialisation xml tag <INCO1> will be skipped when not availabke in the xml and SAP data E1EDL20.INCO1 will not be filled by the transformation.

The entry is correct in day and week view. In the month view, the event carries to the next day indicating it ends at 12:00am.

Question concerning Servicing

Hey all.
I have a question concerning the servicing of my Macbook.
My laptop (less than a year old and still under warrenty) has several dead pixels on the display and the case has developed a chip on the palm rest when the display lid (prongs) meets the palm rest (I believe that this is a popular problem). I did initiate a self repair on the chipped palm rest with super glue to fix it temporarily.
The question is if i take my laptop to the Genius bar, will I be able to get both the screen repaired and the palm rest repaired. And if so how long do you think it will take to replace both and any indication about costs.

I would think you would have no problem with just a simple super-gluing of the palm rest, provided you didn't get it all over the rest of the case. Dead pixels may be another issue. Industry standards say that a certain amount of dead pixels are acceptable. Yield would go way down if all LCD panels were required to be perfect and stay perfect. Your best course of action is to make an appointment and ask. Good luck.
