Legal use of music on webpage?

I've searched the Discussions related to iWeb, but although I found many good ideas about how to embed a piece of music on a webpage, I am lacking some critical information.
It is not clear to me whether or not I can legally post a piece of music on my webpage to automatically play when someone views the page. It appears to me that even if it is music that I own, that does not give me the legal right to play it on a webpage as it appears that the music file can be saved on someone else's computer easily by right-clicking on the webpage element. At that point, then it may be seen as "illegally providing" music to someone else in violation of copyright (and Digital Milennium Copyright Act).
If anyone can point me to some better sources on what legally can or cannot be done with music and webpages, I'd be most appreciative.
Please, I just want advice on the correct and legal use of music on webpages. I am not interested in workarounds. Thanks.

You do not own the music. You own a license which allows you to listen to the music. You can not provide music you do not own copyright for (you did not write, perform, and record yourself) without expressed written permission from the copyright holder.

You have the right to use the music. Unfortunately, even record companies can use these sounds as well, and then they try to slap a copyright on it. But you are totally within your rights.
Specifically, this is permitted in the Apple End User License Agreement for iLife, section 2.G.iii. which you can see here. http://images.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/iLife11.pdf
When you dispute it, do not claim to have original music, or that you own the copyright. Just state that you are licensed by Apple Computer Inc to use the music according to this document. It may help to name the jingle or sound that you are using.

There are a number of con-men who think that they can earn a quick buck from claiming that they own the copyright to Apple’s royalty-free jingles and sound effects included with the iLife applications. These are all free to use, as clearly stated in section 2.C of the iLife Software License Agreement:
“You may use the Apple and third party audio content (“Audio Content”) contained in or otherwise included with the Apple software, on a royalty-free basis, to create your own original soundtracks for your video and audio projects. It depends on what you're asking.
After Effects can link the values of any digital audio file's amplitude to virtually any other parameter or control within AE. With the use of equalization you can make certain frequencies control different parameters. The 3rd party plugin Trapcode Sound Keys makes that process much easier and faster, but you can do it natively within AE too.

But as you mention ANALOG audio I'm not sure what you mean. Do you want real time animation generated from an external audio source? After Effects can't do that - it doesn't do anything in real time.
Apple Motion can assign parameter controls to MIDI controllers, allowing you to control parameters from a multitude of devices like musical keyboards, drum pads, MIDI mix controllers etc.

Does anyone know about using popular music in podcasts like if I wanted to use a Peter Gabriel song in an intro.??
I am not a big fan of production music as most of it tends to be touch and go as far as the cheezy factor..does anyone know how to go about using copyrighted music in general?

Using one music library with multiple user accounts

I want to use one Music Library and be able to have all my computer user accounts be able to access it. Article 93195 does not work for some reason. It is easy to share music over a network but not on the same computer? This can't be. I have talked to several Apple "Geniuses" and they all scratch their head. One guy could do it in Leopard, but not in Tiger. Could it have something to do with the permissions of the Itunes Music Folder? Any help would be appreciated. This is driving me crazy.

1 Quit iTunes.
2 Drag your entire *iTunes folder* from /Username/Music to /Users/Shared.
3 Log out.
1 Log in on your other account(s).
2 Start iTunes and immediately press an hold the Option key.
3 iTunes will ask to *Create new library* or *Choose existing library*. Select *Choose existing library*.
4 Select the *iTunes library file* in the *iTunes folder* in /Users/Shared.
5 Now go to File -> *Add to library* and select the *iTunes music folder* located in /Username/Music.
6 - iTunes will add all the music in from this account to the main iTunes music folder/library.
7 Delete the *iTunes folder* in /Username/Music
8 Restart iTunes normally (don't hold Option). Everything should be there.
9 Quit iTunes and log out of the account.
10 Do the above steps for all users. Don't do the first 1-3 steps. Start at the second series.
Log into your account, start iTunes normally and all music should be there.
Whenever any of you do anything in iTunes, it will be seen by all since you are using one and the same iTunes library file.
Create a "main" playlist for each user with their own music. Create a smart playlist and set it to Playlist is not the playlist you created above. Select this and it will show you everything NOT in your playlist. Do the same for the others. This will help when adding only the music you want your own playlist.
Note that iTunes can only be opened by one user at a time. If you have Fast user switching enabled, the other users must quit iTunes in order for anyone else to use it.

I got an I phone 4s and I was wondering how to use my music from my I tunes account for ringtones.

You can use computer iTunes to do that.
Here the DIY way:
1. Select a title (.mp3 or .m4a) in your iTunes Library
2. Do File > Get Info on selected title (Windows do Edit > Get Info)
3. In the dialog choose Options tab
4. Set Start Time and End Time (no more than 35 secs otherwise won't work)
5. Close dialog.
6. Now control click the title (right click) and choose Create AAC Version
Note: If you don't have Create AAC version, switch in menu File > Preferences...(Windows do Edit > Preferences...) > General > Import Settings... > Import Using: AAC Encoder.
7. When it is done, drag the newly create title to the desktop.
8. Delete the newly create title in iTunes. <-- This step is important
9. Rename the title on your desktop from ringtone.m4a to ringtone.m4r
10. Drag and drop it into iTunes
Now you have a ringtone.
Make sure it is selected in iTunes for syncing with your new iPhone.

The only limit is that of the device. No restrictions on how much of it you can use for music. Is part of your music library unchecked?

You can start work on your game from the moment you download and complete the installation of the Trial version.
No-one will be standing over you watching what you do or monitoring you remotely or noting when you pay for the software.

I have iTunes 12 installed on my 2014 MacBook Pro and late-2008 aluminium unibody MacBook. My husband and I share the MacBook and he wants to access my iTunes library because his is empty.
A friend told me that the easiest way to do this in iTunes 12 is to create a radio station using my music in my iTunes library. My iTunes music folder is just over 35GB in size (if that's relevant). Almost all of the music (>95%) is from my CDs that I've copied into iTunes over the years.
I would be really grateful if someone could tell me how I go about doing this because I'm afraid that I haven't been able to find any instructions on just how I go about this.

Here are other ways to share your library but it only works if you're both on the same network: Enable Home Sharing under iTunes/File Menu and read the iTunes Help entry for Home Sharing for additional info. It will allow up to 5 computers on your network to play and download items from your iTunes Library. Alternatively, you can enable "Share My Library On My Local Network" under iTunes Preferences which allows up to 5 computers to play any content in your library but without the ability to download them.
I assume you keep your iTunes Library synchronized on both computers. If you have it also on the MacBook, this Apple support document will explain how to share your iTunes Library with multiple users on the same computer. This is by far the easiest and always available without using the network.

You can create custom ringtones with music in your iTunes library on your computer that does not include DRM protection. If you have a Mac running Snow Leopard or later, Apple includes at least one 3rd party app via the App Store for a Mac for creating custom ringtones. The one I've used is called Ringer, and I believe it was free or cost a couple of bucks. Creates the custom ringtone from your designated section of the song and places the ringtone in the appropriate location in your iTunes library to be selected under the Ringtones tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes to be transferred to your iPhone.
I'm sure there are some free and paid 3rd party apps that provide the same for Windows.

Registration problems using itunes Music Card

Hi - anyone out there having a problem registering with a music card? Seems music store has acknowledged redemption of card but will not allow registration because payment field demands credit card details which, naturally,I don't want to give!
Also support says there is a "None" button in payment field to indicate no credit card because you want to use a music card but when I register there is no such button!
Could my problem have been caused because I redeemed the music card BEFORE registering for an account?
Have sent an inquiry e-mail to iTunes but thought someone out there might be able to help out a bit quicker! Thanks

You redeem a card one time only. The entire amount is then transferred to the account that redeemed it. The card is of no use after this. The credit has beenr edeemed. it does not stay on the card at all.
