Legalities Concerning Flash Add-Ons; Development, Advertisement, Sales, Etc.

What is Adobe's stance on an individuals ability to develop, advertise and sell plug-ins or extensions, specifically for Flash Professional (cs3, cs4, cs5 & 5.5, etc). Is there any ownership, equity, or royalty laws concerning an add-on I create and sell? Does it matter if I'm using actionscript or not? Does it matter which version(s) of Flash (aforementioned cs versions) I am making this add-on for?
I have posted this question in other forums and have found no luck, often no attempts at even answering. Please do not tell me "don't bother, most people won't buy something like that" as that is an answer I've already been given and in no way answers the question being asked.
Small recap of the specific question -
Can I LEGALLY develop a flash add-on and/or extension, advertise it, sell it, etc without having to worry about Adobe claiming royalties ownership etc?
I'd just like to be extra cautious as I do not wish to enter into any legal issues.

I love Firefox, but I have 2 distinctly different needs. I need 2 separate Firefox browsers with very different settings, consistent with very different uses:
1. This use of Firefox will be for visiting many different websites, a wide variety of interests.
2. I need this use of Firefox to be very limited and restricted, consistent with handling personal investments, banking, financial transactions. There will be very few websites, but with extremely secure, private, connections.

Connection from Multiple Add-Ons

Good evening all,
I have read about a possibility that a new connection method will be released with version 2007 that would allow add-ons to not use 70+MB ram, but only the first add-on would use that and not subsequent add-ons won't.
We have a client that's running 5+ add-ons developed by various companies including mine. They are very concerned about the memory usage. Is there a way for each of these companies to change their connection to SBO DI API and make the memory usage less.
We have confirmed that we all use the standard single sign on method.

The new connection method for reducing the amount of memory used is only available with 2007A. You are correct that the first add-on to connect with take the 50 - 60 Meg of RAM, but subsequent add-ons will take ~1.5 Meg assuming that all add-ons are using the new connection method for the DI API. This means that ALL add-ons must use the new connection method to receive the memory benefits.
The SDK Help Center documentation for 2007A covers this topic. It does require a change to your code, but it is minor.

My charter webmail will NOT load after playing around with add-ons. FREAKING OUT!

My entire charter webmail page is GREY & BLANK! I don't know what I did but I was playing around with add-ons including AD Block, etc. I have removed anything I added but it is still GREY & BLANK. I can NOT get into my mail. HELP!!!

Try this...
From the Safari menu bar top of your screen click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
Click: Remove All Website Data
Quit then relaunch Safari to test. If it was a cookies issue, that may help.
And in case you aren't aware, when you have trouble with sites loading, trying emptying the Safari cache.
Back to the menu bar, click Safari > Empty Cache
Or Command + Option + E on your keyboard.
As for Peer Guardian. Best to avoid third party firewall blockers.
Your Firewall settings are located in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Firewall
Very important to keep your system software up to date. Back to System Preferences > Software Update > Scheduled Check
Select: Check for updates. Best to select Daily from the pop up menu. Then select: Download updates automatically.
You'll see a dialog box on the Desktop when there are updates available to be installed.

Many add-ons do not work when upgraded to Firefox 3.6.10 on mac

After upgrading to v3.6.10, my Firefox kept on crashing when I attempted to open the app. I had thought that it could be a particular wrong move to install a recently-added new plug-in iMacros to the browser.
However, after around 8 attempts at reinstallation with individual plugins/add-ons (eg. Xmarks, etc), Firefox was unable to startup. From my attempts, I believe it might be some error with the new version that might clash with the other plugins that were previously installed.
I hope some solution can help solve this problem as I would like to try out the new 3.6.10, but since I don't have the previous installer, I have to resort to using a back-dated 3.5.5 version of Firefox.

Glad to hear I am not alone in this. Same time frame too. But at 11 pm on 15.10 equally suddenly firefox started working again, and now seems fine.

Flash player update with add-ons

Wasn't sure where to address this
concern:
I just went to Adobe site to check for any updates to flash player 10. I was shocked to see that with the update were optional (which could be rejected) for a Macafee product and some game-type reader.
(I had gone directly to Adobe for this upgrade, as my wife said she had an alert to upgrade, but it wanted her to buy something. I thought a hoax, so went directly to Adobe.)
Unless I am missing something here, offering various add-ons with flash player upgrades seriously hurts the integrity of the importance of flash player. As a web developer using flash, I rely that users are going to keep getting the latest flash version. Including optional add-ons, in my opinion, puts flash in the category of items that are always trying to install a Google or such tool bar, offer free scans, etc.
That image can be harmful to keeping flash player an important tool. My first thought is that it is akin to the old days when flash was just used as a splash screen; nice, but meaningless. I'd hate to see flash getting reputation as a gimmic rather than a serious, critical tool.
Not sure who addresses such concerns, but, unless I am missing something in all this, I think as flash developers, we should be concerned.
If I have misinterpreted things, please let me know.

For the record, there are ONLY 4 things that can possibly download with Flash Player, Shockwave or Reader updates FROM ADOBE:
1. Norton Security Scan
2. McAfee Security Scan
3. Google Chrome with Google Toolbar
4. A trial of Adobe Lightroom (Mac downloads only)
ANYTHING else that installs with an "update" DID NOT come from Adobe, and it's a sure bet the "update" didn't either, and it's probably loaded with "adware", "spyware", or "malware".
Whenever you see a ntoice about updating Flash Player, you can check to see if your Flash Player is up to date by right clicking ANY flash content on a web page and choosing "Global Settings".
Then when your control panel opens to the Flash Player window, under the "Advanced" tab, you can see your installed version, and check to see if there really is an update available FROM ADOBE.

Flash update messed up FF Add-ons and the Open New Tab button.

FF told me that I needed to update Flash, so I said OK. Whereupon all of my FF Add-ons disappeared. Seems that FF needed to check with the mother ship to find out if everything were compatible with this new Flash update--but the mother ship was not available (this has happened several times).
Why didn't FF check on the compatibility issues BEFORE getting the Flash update?!
I will remove Flash (did this in the past, and the lost functionalities were no big deal). I will also change the settings on FF so that the program won't do this again. (I periodically go see about FF updates myself and try to sit on FF while the updates are being done.)
BTW ... I had FF set to NO DOWNLOAD/UPDATE anything until/unless I have the OK. The past few weeks, I've gotten constant notes from FF telling me to get FF6.0. I was almost ready--but not quite ready--and yesterday FF updated itself. NO OK from me.
As I type this, I've finally gotten all of my FF Add-ons and other mods back. And it looks like my bookmark tabs are all squared-away again, too. (The AddNewTab button completely disappeared.)
So, this is no longer a question for you that could use an answer. Instead, I'd like you to pass my frustrations along to the development crew. I HATE the uncertainty/instability of my Firefox Add-ons and Stylish mods. (I'd rather just skip them.)
I understand that the Add-ons are not the work of Mozilla (not like the browser program itself, anyway) and that the job of getting everything to work together must be insanely difficult. So I'm not wanting to complain about the compatibility hassles here--I'm complaining about the need to watch FF carefully to make sure FF doesn't jump up and do something that I don't want. That and the fact that I have to remember that FF will change my system BEFORE checking to see if it's going to make a mess for me.
I only recently returned to Firefox and started using some of the Add-ons again. I love them. But I don't think I'll ever use more than 6 or so Add-ons because of the constant problems with updates like this mess today with Macropedia's Flash. The one thing I don't want in a browser is problems.

I'm sorry to hear that you have so many issues. What version of Firefox were you using before?
The double title bar issue has been identified as an issue with the Tax Mix Plus extension but it doesn't affect everyone, it's an interaction with something else (not exactly clear what, although Norton Toolbar was mentioned in one thread).
There is a new version available that you could try. If Firefox is stable enough to do it...
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > "gear" icon > Check for Updates
If your beta version won't update, you could try installing [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/tab-mix-plus/ from the add-ons site].
More generally, could I suggest disabling as many extensions as you can live without for 24 hours, and re-enable them gradually? This should help isolate interactions between them. As you know, you can do that here:

Finally, regarding your old session, if you haven't closed Firefox, you might find a sessionstore.bak file in your profile folder that contains your old session. To easily access that folder, try
Help > Troubleshooting Information > "Show Folder" button
Grab a copy of that file and save it somewhere outside the folder because it is overwritten when you close Firefox. Got to run, but if you find one with an appropriate date, someone can help you restore it.

ADOBE FLASH PLAYER DOES NOT show up on add-ons and even though i install it on my computer it doesn't sync with Firefox to play movies

Vudu requires Adobe Flash Player for movies and gives me an error message saying that I need to update to the newest version and gives a link. When i follow the link and install the newest version I still get the same message. I checked add-ons Firefox and Adobe Flash Player doesn't show up as an available add-on or plug-in. Your system details list doesn't show that the Shockwave Flash plugin is installed and enabled.
If you have the Shockwave Flash plugin installed then make sure that it is enabled.

In manage add-ons, Adobe Flash Player is listed under Not Available, but is listed as enabled.

When trying to view something that needs flash player, it tells me that I need to have flash player to do this. So I go to install it, and it tells me it is already installed with my Windows 8. So, then it tells me to either Enable flash player or to disable Active x filtering. Active x filtering is not enabled, so I go to Manage add ons, and it shows that Shockwave Flash Object is listed under the heading NOT AVAILABLE, but is listed as being enabled. I have tried to reinstall flash player, but it won't let me because it is already installed. In Windows 8, under manage add-ons, Flash player is listed under the heading Not Available, but is listed as being Enabled.

I Try to reinstall it but it tells me it is already pre-installed with my windows 8 and to turn off active x filtering or to enable it in manage add ons. Active x filtering is not on, and it is currently enabled, it is just listed under the Not Available heading and I am guessing that is why it is not working when I go to view something that needs flash player. Is there a way to uninstall it and reinstall it going around the windows preinstalled?? Or a way to get it out of the Not Available and into the Adobe heading in my add-ons??

What you can do is either Reset IE (Gear > Advanced > Reset), or if that doesn't work, you'll need to go into Add/Remove programs, find the last Windows Update for Internet Explorer or Flash, uninstall it, then re-install it from Windows Update. This will usually get you back to a good state with IE.

Is Shockwave Flash 16.0.0.305 which is shown in the list of plugins in Add-ons Manager insecure

Following a reply from Phillip to my earlier question and having followed the links supplied ie installed Flashplayer from the Adobe website I am still unsure if I have the more secure version of the software, since in Add-ons Manager it just shows Shockwave Flash 16.0.0.305 which does not tell me what I need to know. Some time - once per month - I like to go to cinema and therefor I use cineplex online ticket booking system, which is based on adobe flash player. But ever I want to reserve online a cinema ticket, I got an error message in browser from some add-on, probable from flash player add-on "Shockwave Flash Object" by Adobe Systems Incorporated, and cannot use the web page to reserve a ticket in online ticket system of CINEPLEX: https://booking.cineplex.de/TicketBoxXNGFrontend/booking_ng.jsp?perf_i d=1E871000023VYZJHTG&site_id=31 The web page from booking.cineplex is since many years the same, but flash player is often updated and kaspersky lab add-ons are very young.
Could anybody confirm problems between flash player add-on and the kaspersky lab add-ons, because if I deactivate all kaspersky add-ons, there are no problems to use the webpage from CINEPLEX and their online ticket system based on flash player. Support of Kaspersky Lab denies any problems with their software regarding this issue, but I don't believe, that they had tested it with the booking.cineplex site.

Hi Chris,
thank your for the hint. But this site is already on whitelist in all moduls of kaspersky. I assume the error comes not from possible blocking content of the web site, but from blocking something functions from flash player "Shockwave Flash Object" add-on, but I could not exactly determine this. Because this problem is difficulty to delimit, I use IE 9 only without Kaspersky add-ons, otherwise I get angry each time, if the access to cinema portal site does not work.
Perhaps someone else has an idea.
