Legit email senders blocked as spam

I am having a consistent and very irritating problem that legitimate email senders are getting their emails bounced back as spam. Every time, I have to file a whitelist report and they do the same. Sometimes this takes days to resolve. Just today, someone who was successfully whitelisted two or three weeks ago is not getting blocked AGAIN.
Why are LEGITIMATE and consistent emails being blocked?  I am still getting real spam by the way, which Verizon is not blocking. I get hundreds of emails a day and I will have to change providers if this continues to be a consistent problem.
The tech support people in India -- after spending a couple of hours on the phone -- just tell me to fill out the whitelist report.
I need a higher level solution.  ASAP.
Thanks, Debra

Maybe try a whitelist?
Might help.

Whitelist Request Form
To protect our members and our network from unsolicited e-mail (spam), Verizon Online has put measures in place to restrict the distribution of e-mail containing spam and potentially harmful viruses to our members. If we review a restricted e-mail address or domain and determine, based on the information available, that it does not pose a current unacceptable risk to our members or our network, the e-mail address or domain can be "whitelisted" and, therefore, e-mail delivery will be allowed to your mailbox.
If your organization is having difficulty delivering e-mail to Verizon Online addresses, or if you are a subscriber to one of Verizon Online's Internet access services who is unable to receive certain e-mails, please fill out the appropriate form below and submit it to Verizon Online Security. We will investigate the issue and attempt to find a solution that allows you to send or receive e-mail from a restricted source.*

Suddenly flooded with spam on my seldom used private email account. How do I block junk email senders.

No offence, but Just a simple question : Why is Thunderbird still behind ?
Other online mail can block a sender at once with only one click in the context menu !
WAY EASIER THAN USING THUNDERBIRD WITH COMPLICATED SETTINGS.

Email messages I want to receive are being blocked as spam.  What can I do to rectify this?

Spam is related to email / webmail. If that is your problem ...
Firefox doesn't do email, it's strictly a web browser.
If you are using Firefox to access your mail, you are using "web-mail". You need to seek support from your service provider or a forum for that service.

  • Emails are Blocked from domains which are added to "BypassedSenderDomains" in Exchange 2007 Edge server

    Hi,
We have an Exchange server 2007 and an Edge server 2007 is configured in the perimeter network. Most of our clients use Public email domains such as Yahoo and Gmail. Last few weeks it has been a  major issue for us that most of the emails from Yahoo/Gmail
get blocked by our Edge server calming the sender IP address is in Block Lists.
As a solution I've added yahoo.com/gmail.com/aol.com/hotmail.com to "BypassedSenderDomains" hoping if emails receive from one of these domains it will bypass the connection filtering. But still some of our customers complain that their emails are
still not passing to us and blocked by our edge server. They have provided me the error message they receive.
Our clients get following error message
edgexch gave this error: Recipient not authorized, your IP has been found on a block list
Your message wasn't delivered due to a permission or security issue. It may have been rejected by a moderator, the address may only accept e-mail from certain senders, or another restriction
    may be preventing delivery.
550 5.7.1 Recipient not authorized, your IP has been found on a block list
When I check the Agent logs in Edge server  I found specific email had been blocked. Please check one of the log entry.

This troubles me because I've added Yahoo.com to "BypassedSenderDomains" on 1/28/2014 and this email was blocked on 1/30/2014. I've checked whole Agent logs from 28th to-date and found most of the messages from white-listed domains  bypassed
the content filtering but some were  still getting blocked. Most of the messages from white-listed domains were blocked from "bl.spamcop.net " IP block list provider.
As a solution for the current situation I've disabled "bl.spamcop.net" from the "IP block List Providers". But the issue is, why the mails are getting blocked even the domains were white-listed. I though after white-listing emails domains,
messages will bypass the content filters if the email generates from one of the white-listed email domain.
I've also added the "Content Filter Config" for your reference.

  • Legit Email Being Moved to User Junk Folder

I am not sure if this is the correct forum to ask this or not. So if this needs to be moved, would a moderator please move it.
What we have is a user is seeing certain email from the internet being placed into the user junk folder. The user uses the OWA not outlook. Our setup is exchange 2013 SP1 with a 2 member DAG. We do use Mcafee's Security for Exchange but when the headers
of the legit email are viewed, Mcafee's Security does NOT scan it AND Mcafee Security is NOT set to deliver SPAM to the user junk folder. We have the malware option of Exchange disabled. The scanned header part of the legit email says it uses spamassassin.

There aren't any rules on the exchange server. Does exchange do any form of spam scanning?
We do not have an edge server.

    Hi,
According to your posting, I noticed that there are two third-party value in the message header:
    X-Pidgin-SpamProbe: GOOD 0.0000010 9a9e88a5e77c0f07e773e841e70ec91b
    X-Pidgin-Spam-Flag: Clean
Generally, we can use the X-MS-Exchange-Organization-SCL value in message header to check whether the message is spam message in Exchange environment. I am not familiar with the X-Pidgin-Spam-Flag value which may be a value for a third-party spam filter.
For more information about SCL in Exchange server, please refer to:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa995744(v=exchg.150).aspx
If the issue only happens to a specific user and specific messages which are send from specific senders, we can add these senders in a Safe Sender list in your Anti-Spam program to have a try.

Why is the above considered spam?
I have tried changing port to 587 and have finally been able to send info to the spam web page.  Hopefully they can correct this soon.  I never had this problem with Comcast.  Hope to resolve ASAP or will be canceling all my server with verizon.  Thanks for any suggestion!

The best way to resolve this issue is to send the message as an attachment to [email protected] so the message an be reviewed and the filters updated. Unfortunately, you won't get a response back about the status/result of this process. The filter is scanning the content of your message for anything that "looks" like spam.
Some troubleshooting steps you can try on your own:
If you have a signature, try removing one line at a time from it and attempting to send the message again. Some signatures look like "ads" to the filters, apparently.
If you are using a pop3 client (Outlook, Outlook Express, etc.) try sending your message from the verizon.net website. If this resolves the issue, then it is something that your client is adding to the message that is causing it to be blocked.
If the Subject line of your message has a whole bunch of "Fwd: Fwd: Re: Fwd:" try removing some of them.

Thanks Dean Pugh at [email protected]

This is the outbound spam filter that Verizon implemented a while back, and is unrelated to the port 25 change. Something within the message itself is triggering the block. You can visit the verizon.net/spamfaq page listed in the error for more information on why the system was implemented, etc.
You can send "false positives" (messages that were caught as spam, but should not have been) to [email protected] as an attachment for review. The message will eventually be reviewed and they will make changes to the filter if they deem it necessary, but you will NOT get anything back regarding status or outcome.
Some troubleshooting steps you can try:
If you have a signature, try removing one line at a time from it and attempting to send the message again. Some signatures look like "ads" to the filters, apparently.
If you are using a pop3 client (Outlook, Outlook Express, etc.) try sending your message from the verizon.net website. If this resolves the issue, then it is something that your client is adding to the message that is causing it to be blocked.

  • Blocking by Spam Assassin

Emails to me have recently been bouncing back and after some research, I've learnt that it is only emails sent from Blackberry's that are being bounced by with the message that they have been blocked by Spam Assassin.
Does anyone know why this has just started happenning and what I can do to correct it. (p.s. I do not send Spam and neither do my friends!!)

Hello...apologies for the delay...hopefully you already have this sorted, but just in case!
From what you describe, your email service (whatever that is) may be using SPAM Assassin for overall SPAM management, and for some reason it has identified emails it receives from BBs to be SPAM. You need to contact your email service administrator to look into and resolve this.
    Good luck!

I clicked on a link in an email that may be spam/phishing.  How can I scan my mac book pro for viruses?

You can just download the free ClamXav and scan your entire drive - but as there are no known viruses for OS X (although there is malware - see Thomas Reed's excellent Mac Malware Guide) it's very unlikely that you have a virus.
The best source against malware is OS X itself and common sense. Don't click on links in suspicious emails and be careful of anything that wants to install something on your computer that is not from a reputable source.

  • Some of my emails are categorised as Spam. Is a BT...

I've not managed to get satisfaction from BT Support Chat.  I'm hoping a Mod can help (they usually come up with the goods!).
I use a feature on my NAS to email me a status report once per week through mail.btinternet.com (using my normal logon credentials) from my btinternet.com alias to another email address (a domain of mine hosted by another provider).  This provider's email forwarding service then forwards the email to my btinternet.com account.  For the past few weeks the email has bounced (i.e. it appears in my btinternet.com inbox without having gone through the email forwarding service).  The other provider says "......you were set as SMAPPER by BT. To solve this issue, you need to contact BT to remove you from their blacklist".  These weekly emails used to be OK and I'm not aware that anything has changed.  Sending from Outlook using my btinternet.com alias icontinues to be OK.  What could the problem be?

I see a couple of problems already.  The jre should 1.4.2_XX (check the installation instructions as there are 3 builds which are not compatible).  Also you are pretty far behind on the service packs.  I think it is at SP 11 so SP2 is a bit out of date.
    Good luck,

Hand the iPad you found into your nearest police station.

  • Why have my emails been blocked from downloading?

The email below was sent to me saying I have been automatically removed from the CCLIST1 list (Calorie Count Monday) as  a result of repeated delivery error reports from my mail system and indicating my email account does not exist and that I may be permanently unable to receive emails on my OS and iOS devices.
This is the second time in three months it has happened. At that time I couldn't find any help on the web or from computer-savy friends regarding how and why it happened or how to rectify the situation. After a week or two my email was permanently blocked and I had to change my email address and contact a couple hundred people and businesses with the new address -- many hours were spent doing this. I could still read my emails and send them on my service provider's website, CenturyLink. This was very helpful as many of the web accounts I had required email address verifications before they would accept account information changes.
My internet/email service provider tried to help by having me redo setting up the Mac Mail account on my iMac. That didn't work. I also went online to Apple to again use the method for resetting the Mail account as well as look for answers.
I received the email below yesterday, so hopefully I have some time to solve the problem before my email is blocked from downloading to my devices.
Any advice and step-by-step directions on rectifying this problem would be very much appreciated.
    Sincerely,
    Bonnie

You have been automatically removed  from the CCLIST1 list (Calorie Count
Monday) as  a result of  repeated delivery  error reports from  your mail
system. This decision was based  on the list's automatic error monitoring
policy and has  not been reviewed or otherwise confirmed  by a person. If
you receive  this message, then it  means that something is  wrong. While
you  are obviously  able  to  receive mail,  your  mail  system has  been
regularly reporting  that your account  did not  exist, or that  you were
otherwise permanently  unable to receive  mail. Here is  some information
that may assist you  or your local help desk in  determining the cause of
    the problem:
    - The failing address is [email protected].
    - The first error was reported on 2014-01-06.
    - Since then, a total of 2 delivery errors have been received.
    - The last reported error was: 5.1.0 Probe failed
PLEASE DO  NOT IGNORE  THIS MESSAGE.  While you  can re-subscribe  to the
list,  it is  important  for you  to  report this  problem  to your  mail
administrator so that  it can be solved. This problem  is not specific to
the CCLIST1 list  and may also affect your private  mail. This means that
you may have  lost some private mail  as well. Anyone trying  to write to
you during  the same time frame  might have received the  same errors for
    the same reason."

I read a few more discussions on this problem elsewhere on-line with the suggestion that I had a bug on my computer that hijacked my email account to send emails elsewhere (not that I had any clue on how to discover that on my computer).
I followed the suggestion to access my email account on-line and change my password and make it stronger. I did that and was able to get my emails downloaded to my computer and other devices.
I'm pretty sure that my original problem started when I unsubscribed from the Calorie Counter on-line newsletter by pressing a link at the bottom of the email I received from them. A screen came up that said I was unsubscribed and then disappeared in a flash. The experience seemed odd and weird compared to other times when I've unsubscribed from something.
As a test I resubscribed to the newsletter and then unsubscribed. I was directed to one of CCounter's internal web pages and went through a couple of steps in order to finish the process... all very professional and obviously on the newsletter's website.
So the lesson I learned was have a strong password for my email and change it occasionally. And do the same for other accounts that are password protected.
