Leica D-Lux 2 and Leica M8

Does anyone know if Apple's iPhoto plans to support RAW usage for the D-Lux 2 and new M8 cameras? The new M8 uses DNG format. Thanks!
MacBook Pro 17"   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   MacBook, iPod mini, iPod nano, Leica D-Lux 2, & Palm Treo 700p

We won't know until they announce it or add the camera to the supported cameras/formats page.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • Leica V-Lux 2 and PS Elements

I have got a new Leica V-Lux 2, but I can't open the raw-files from that camera in PS Elements 9. Do I need a new plugin or a converter? Anybody out there who can help? And please tell how to install it.

The latest version of Adobe Camera Raw is 6.2, which does not support the V-Lux 2.  You will have to wait for version 6.3 or beyond.  In the meantime you should be able to use the software that comes with the camera to convert to a different file format.

  • Leica D-Lux 6 RAW and PS5?

Hi, I have a new Leica D-Lux 6 and I made many photo in the Leica RAW format. Now I can't open the files under PS5.
Has somebody an idea what to do?
It makes no sense for me to have such a camera and can't use the RAW format because of the limitation of PS.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Leica D-LUX 4 (LX3) RAW Processing

    Hi all,
Just wanted to report some interesting behavior regarding the long-awaited RAW processing ability for the D-LUX 4 and Panasonic LX3. I did not see this happen on the first library I coverted, because I let Aperture do the image processing, so the files were already converted when the Library upgrade process finihed.
Anyway, this time I did not process images when doing the upgrade of my personal library, because I wanted it to finish the task quickly. It did about 3 hours for some 40K photos.
I had been shooting RAW + jpg since I got my Leica D-LUX 4 in the hopes that Aperture would support it some day...and that day came!
Anyway, the .RWL RAW files show up in the browser view as black boxes with the warning triangle. They convert when you select them individually, and that was pretty much as expected.
What was cool though, was when I had opened an .RWL image into Split View, and then arrow key selected the next unprocessed image. Aperture displayed "Unsupported Picture Format" on top of a low res image that had really severe lens distortion for an instant in what appeared to be a 16:9 or longer aspect ratio image, then displayed the properly converted 4:3 RAW file.
This is obviously the lens correction processing that is part of the way the camera operates, and that A2 was incapable of converting correctly. I thought it worth mentioning that you can sort of see it at work in A3.
It is so great to have A3 do such a good job on these files, and be so responsive. Really enjoying getting to work with my Leica RAW files finally.
    THANKS APERTURE TEAM!
    Sincerely,
    K.J. Doyle

I have been waiting for over a year for RAW support for the Leica D-Lux 4 using Aperture 2. It seems that this support is only going to be offered for Aperture 3 users. I have asked at my local Apple Store for an explanation without any success. Is it really just a marketing ploy for A3, or was there a technical reason why A2 could not have support for this camera??
    Hi Tony,
Now I am not sure if this conversion works on a machine without Aperture 3 on it, because all of the machines here have A3 on them...
    BUT...
I just dragged a .RWL file into iPhoto and it opened, no problem.
I have no control over the conversion, of course, and the better control system for RAW is what you are paying for in A3.
I shot over 30K images with my DL4, storing RAW + JPG hoping for this, and seeing them come up in A3, and be so workable (better that Phase one) was a very happy day for me.

  • Suport for Leica D-Lux 4?

Hello, Does anyone know when there is likely to be support for the Leica D-Lux 4 camera's RWL files?
    TIA.
    - Vikas

It appears that the D-Lux 4 and LX3 have a barrel distortion issue which the cameras deal with internally for the JPGs and (I assume) Capture One and SilkyPix deal with in their conversions from RAW files for the respective camera. Would you have any insight as to whether this presents any obstacles for Adobe?

  • Problem with D-Lux 3 raw files and Mac OS X

    Hello everybody… my first post.
Last year I purchased a D-Lux 3, which is my first digital camera and my first Leica too.
While I enjoy this little camera, recently I have noticed that all my pictures shooted in raw have at least 4 black pixels in the exactly same position.
I’m using Mac OS X v 10.4.10 (last version) on a new MacBook 2.16 GHz and the dead pixels appear using both Preview and Aperture (trial). While at first I thought to have a defective sensor, making additional trials, I found out that if I shoot in JPEG or if I open the raw files with Adobe Camera Raw the pictures are just fine, no “dead” pixels appear.
I’m wondering if other D-lux 3 and Mac OS X users have ever noticed this kind of problem.
Is it some sort of very strange bug in Mac OS X?
    Thanks

    Thanks everybody for the answers.
The pixels are in the top part of the frame but not on the edge.
I think the best explanation could be the automatic “dead Pixels” correction pointed out by jrg_uk.
I really didn’t know some applications make this kind of automatic corrections.
I guess at this point I need to have my camera sensor repaired by Leica.

  • Support for RAW format for Leica cameras

Does anyone know when iPhoto might provide RAW support for the Leica D-LUX 3 digital camera?

Larry, thx for the clarity. I didn't realize asking about future directions was a no-no here.
I since found an Apple document indicating support for the Leica D-LUX 3 and RAW format in an OS 10.4.10(?) release. I think I'll have to drag my Mac to the camera store, take a few pics with the D-LUX 3, attempt to sync and see if/how the RAW images come over, and then advise here on if it worked with OS 10.5.2 and iPhoto '08.

  • What is the diffrence between DR and SMI processes?

Actually when i say DR process is for comparision purpose and SMI is for actual replenishment purpose people are not getting convinced,i am requesting you experts to  come up with a better answer with an example .
    thanks in advance,
    Nandan

    Hi Nandan,
DR (Dynamic replenishment) is basically a Visibility process where you can do a comparision of Customer and Supplier Planning data which can be shown absolute numbers, percentages and deviations shown in colour coding.
Here Planned Orders & Purchase requisitions =Customer plan
And Customer Order= Created PO, for these Supplier can enter responses=Supplierplan/Supplier order.
Ex: If customer plan for LUX = 100 and Supplier Plan=30, the difference of -70 Nos will come in deviation in Key figure =Difference Planned receipts/Planned requirement and  %ge in RED colour with -70%  in Key figure =Difference Planned receipts/Planned requirement(%).
SMI ( Supplier Managed Inventory) is a process where Customer gives/handover Net Replenishment planning responsibility to Supplier.
SMI uses dependent requirement & stock balance to calculate replenishment plan based on Min/Max Logic and subsequently converts the plan in to PO( this is optional) and ASN at the time of shipment.
The POs and ASNs are sent back to the customer's ERP system as indication of commitment from the supplier.
Ex: If for LUX Min/Max stock level is 70/100, once the stock level goes to below 70 say  50, a Demand of 50 numbers will show in Key figure =Demand and Supplier can enter Key figure =Planned receipt manually or allow system to propose automatically rest will happen as said above.
Here Supplier can create ASN for the replenishment plan.
I hope this helps you to explain.
    Regards,
    Vasu

  • MacBook Pro Retina 15 - Eyestrain and Headaches

    Hello all!
I would like to come back to the eyestrain topic. This problem was discussed intensively, and I've been following the long thread about LED causing eyestrain on MacBooks, but I don't know if we reached a conclusion.
Well. I bought a MacBook Pro Retina 15 (Mid 2014) three weeks ago and since then I have eyestrain, headaches, red eyes and dry eyes daily. I've never felt such things in years working with computers.
Like some people, I think that I don't have issues with LED screens. My old laptop has a glossy LED screen, I have LED TV in my house and I never ever had such symptoms!
I've directly contacted Apple Support too, but the only thing they've told me is that I should have my eyes checked, since there is nothing wrong with the machine. ****! My eyes are not the problem too! I am 29 years old, and I wear reading glasses, because I have small degree of myopia.... my lens have a special coating anti-glare and with UV protection (Crizal). But nothing seems to help me to have a painless experience using the rMBP. Due to that eyestrain, I went to an opthamologist, but he hasn't found anything wrong with my eyes!
I feel tremendously sad, frustrated and disappointed that this is happening with me (and other people), even more when this is my first Apple product. So sad.
Well, guys. I don't know what to do anymore! I tried everything that I could: went to the doctor, increased and lowered the resolution (i am using Best for retina now), increased and lowered the screen brightness; tried to use f.lux app and Shades. And these symptoms appears both when using the Intel Iris as the GT 750M. I'm using Mavericks, but tried the Yosemite too.
    Nothing worked!
I still don't tried to put a screen protector, but I guess that also will not work. By the way, someone knows a good screen protector to test?
Besides, anyone knows if this issue is due the LED backlid, software related, PWD, refresh rate or what? Anyone reached a conclusion? Or, more important, anyone knows how to fix it?
Apple never expressed respect. And although we are the exception, I think it would be important to have a satisfaction about what is happening. And not just talk that the problem is in our eyes.
I would not want to get rid the machine - I liked it very much! But I think that sell this Mac is the only way to me. I don't want to stay with a computer that I can't use like I want, because it is hurting me.
This is very disapointing... so if anyone could help me, I'll be very glad.
    Thank you, guys!
Sorry for any inconvenience and my english, it's not my native language.

The best option is an appointment at an Apple store genius bar and have the technicians diagnose the problem.
    Ciao.

  • White light sources (and their quality)

    (continued from another thread)
White LEDs are currently not a great way to illuminate your prints because they are not near full spectrum light sources.  Most "white" LEDs are currently blue or violet LEDs with a green or yellow phosphor added to look neutral - but they have very little light in other areas (especially red).  Some high end white LEDs are getting closer to full spectrum - but those are only recently available, and are not yet widespread.
Cheap fluorescent lamps tend to have a few "spikes" of light and have some wavelenths almost entirely missing.  "Full Spectrum" Fluorescent lights are getting better, and cheaper - but are still not comparable in quality to tungsten or daylight.
Spectra measured with X-Rite ColorMunki and Argyll CMS spotread utility. Multiple readings averaged, normalized and plotted in Microsoft Excel.

[ updated May 27, 2013 to add samples from 2 LED lightbulbs ]

    Some additional information (2006):

    and related topics.
    (2) shows spectra for commercial fluorescent tubes.
Illuminance E (lux, lx) and luminance L (candela/m², cd/m²) can be related only under
certain assumptions (isotropic diffuser). The one gets (Hunt, Measuring Colour):
    L / (cd / m²) = (1/pi) E / lx
    or simplified
    L = E / 3
    Monitor           L = 100 cd/m² (luminance)
    Office desktop E = 500 lx      (illuminance)
Proofing light  E = 2000 lx  (according to some standard for critical inspection)
We can see immediately, applying the rule of thumb, that paper prints cannot
be viewed side by side with monitors with good results:
    2000/3 = 666 (print)  <---->  100 (monitor)
The ambient light at the working place in my environment is about 50 lx !
Proofing light is available in a neighbour room.

Did you use the Migration Assistant to help set up the new iMac using some of the files in the older PC? Some likely won't mean much, unless you have applications that can use or convert them. There's also a way to use the software Time Machine to import data files from an external or another computer, so you may have used that, too.
Hopefully someone with experience in a similar issue will reply...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Importing Raw and Jpeg from Leica D-Lux 4

    Hi All,
If Apple ever address the D-Lux 4 issue then I will be a happy man. However, for the meantime i need to find a work around solution for importing my images into Aperture. I shoot Dynamic B&W Jpeg with Raw back-up for archive and (hopefully) later editing. The issue I have at the moment is that Aperture is only showing the preview of the Raw file and not the Jpeg aswell, thus I have to drag the images from the card as a batch of jpegs and then again a batch of Raw files separately into the project that I have created. Does anyone know the reason for this and if there is a more elegant solution?
    Thanks
    Matt

    Hi Matt,
I don't have an answer for you except to say I am a fellow sufferer...same problem here.
The D-LUX 4 has become my personal favorite camera, and is with me at all times. I am really sad that Aperture has not supported this great tool. I use it more than any of my pro cameras, because it is convenient, and great quality.
I use it professionally to scout shooting locations, and in a 24 page brochure that we did last month 2 of the images came from the D-LUX 4....amazing given the rest of the 48 images came from Nikon D3s or my P45+ back on a Hasselblad.
Apple please support the Leica D-LUX 4...it seem everyone else is, even shareware.

  • Camera raw update 3.2 create issues with panasonic square LX3 raw

    Hi everybody,
since I've installed the last camera raw update(ie 3.2), my square raw from my panasonic LX3 are not recognised anymore by snow leopard, I can't even get a preview on any of my square raw.
As it was working perfectly before this update, is there a way to remove this update?
    Can you reproduce this issue?
    thanks for your attention

I have the Leica D Lux 4 and it does the same thing with my camera using 1:1 aspect ratio. I've since rolled the raw update back to version 3 and all is normal again. If you read this thread, it explains how to roll back the raw update.
