Leica D-Lux 4 Support

I have been waiting for over a year for RAW support for the Leica D-Lux 4 using Aperture 2. It seems that this support is only going to be offered for Aperture 3 users. I have asked at my local Apple Store for an explanation without any success. Is it really just a marketing ploy for A3, or was there a technical reason why A2 could not have support for this camera??

Hi Tony,
Now I am not sure if this conversion works on a machine without Aperture 3 on it, because all of the machines here have A3 on them...
BUT...
I just dragged a .RWL file into iPhoto and it opened, no problem.
I have no control over the conversion, of course, and the better control system for RAW is what you are paying for in A3.
I shot over 30K images with my DL4, storing RAW + JPG hoping for this, and seeing them come up in A3, and be so workable (better that Phase one) was a very happy day for me.
Sincerely,
K.J. Doyle

  • Cam RAW Update 2.5 - still NO Panasonic LX3 and Leica D-Lux 4 support :-(

Why there is no support for this camera? They are out since months... very frustrating and not able to use the RAW files in Aperture (Pro Soft?) and iPhoto...:-(((

Discussions is a user-to-user forum so we can't answer your question. Since what you want is actually a feature request, try http://www.apple.com/feedback/.

  • Aperture does not support raw files from my Leica d-lux 6.

When will Aperture support RAW files from a Leica d-lux 6?

You can download a free copy of Adobe DNG Converter. You then can use this program to convert the D Lux RAW files into DNG RAW files. Aperture will be able to read the DNG files. This is a bit of pain but it will work until Apple supports the D Lux in its usual glacial time span.

  • Support for Leica D-Lux 3 Please

I have recently acquired a Leica D-Lux 3 because it is one of the few small cameras that will shoot raw (my main camera is a Nikon D200) and as I am totally committed to Aperture and the raw format I would appeal to Apple to please add support for this camera and of course the other unsupported cameras such as the D80 asap.
If Adobe can do it why not Apple? I realize that Apple's approach is through the os but still...

Good luck. Let us know how it works.

  • HT4757 Leica V-Lux 3 raw is not yet supported by iPhoto 11. When will it be?

Leica V-Lux 3 raw images are not yet supported by iPhoto 11. They cannot be downloaded. When will they be? Should I contact anyone? If so, whom?

    iPhoto->Provide iPhoto Feedback
Name->Name->name is a shortcut way of describing where to find a menu item. Sorry for the confusion.

  • Any chance that Aperture 3 soon will support the RAW format files from Leica V-lux 3?

Any chance that Aperture 3 soon will support the RAW format files from Leica V-lux 3?

Were all just users here no Apple employees so no one can say (and if Apple was here they wouldn't say either)'
It's just not the type of information Apple gives out. You can go  to Aperture->Provide Aperture Feedback to let them know you want his camera included. But when that will happen is anyone's guess.
One strategy you can use for the time being is to shoot RAW + JPG (assuming the camera has this mode) and import both as a RAW+JPG pair making the JPG the master. Then when the RAW support comes out you can switch and make the RAW the master and process the file.
There are other ways to deal with this until the camera is supported. Post back for more info.

  • RAW Image Support - Leica D-Lux 3

I have seen several posts on D-Lux 2 support that either is in aperture or is not. Has anyone got the RAW files from a D-Lux 2 to work in APT? Anyone out there besides myself with a D-Lux 3 - it will not read RAW from that camera - reports unsupported image format. Really would like this to work, workaround? Anything?

    Hi,
it´s the same problem with the Panasonic LX2. I read, the RAW-format of D-Lux2 / LX1 could be used with tweaking the RAW-recognition in OSX. I tried all the tricks (just search this forum), but they didn´t work with the LX2. Any suggestions appreciated...

  • RAW plug-ins for Leica V-Lux 4 camera, .RWL files

I am using Photoshop CS4 on a Mac Pro, OS 10.7.5. I own a Leica V-Lux 2 camera which records RAW files as .RWL files. PS CS4 won't open the  .RWL files even tho Adobe Updater  tells me that I am up-to-date. I can't find anywhere on the Adobe website to download all the RAW plug-ins. I recall that in the past this was both possible and easy. With my other digital cameras, RAW files are supported from past updates.
    Any suggestions?

Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
    Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
The Leica V-Lux 4 was first supported in Adobe Camera Raw 7.2 (and later versions) which is only compatible with CS6 and later.
So there is no Camera Raw plugin for CS4 to open V-Lux 4 Raw files.
    Options:
    Buy CS6 (new full version)
    Join the Cloud
Free option: download the Adobe DNG converter, convert all V-Lux 4 Raw files to DNG format then open the DNGs in CS4

  • Why does Aperture 3,not process RAW files from Leica D-Lux 5 ?

             Hello:
The purchase of my Leica D-Lux 5 came with LR 3. All raw files can be processed in that Application.However.I also have Aperture 3 and it will not process RAW files from the D-Lux 5.I hope that Apple soon will address this inconvenience.Has anyone els had the same problem?
Hoping for a solution; Thanks John Basso.  Mac OS X 10.6.7

I can tell you that it does process them from Panasonic LX5's - I have one. The files are probably very similar with slightly different processing metadata and a different tag. It is possible to change the tag in the RAW file prior to import that "fools" aperture into thinking that the RAW is the same as a camera that is supported. I have done this with other cameras where the RAW files were really the same but the camera was not yet "officially supported" at the time I bought it.
I kinda remember doing it to the EP-2 or was it the EPL-1? Don't remember but there are plenty of tools that will allow this - google is your friend.
Just make sure that your install of Ap3/OS X DOES actually have support for the LX5... Might work but I have not tried it.

  • Leica D lux 4  & Aperture 2 = Very Happy :-)

I was always under the impression that the Leica D-Lux 4 Raw files would not work with Aperture 2, however playing around with the supplied Capture 4, I exported the files as DNGs and lo and behold they work in Aperture 2. Somehow I'd never managed to get them to work with the Adobe DNG converter.
I am over the moon, hadn't realized this until this happy accident. I currently cannot justify upgrading my G5 to run AP3 so this is fab!
Maybe it's old news, but I thought i'd share it anyway!

  • Leica D-LUX 4 (LX3) RAW Processing

    Hi all,
Just wanted to report some interesting behavior regarding the long-awaited RAW processing ability for the D-LUX 4 and Panasonic LX3. I did not see this happen on the first library I coverted, because I let Aperture do the image processing, so the files were already converted when the Library upgrade process finihed.
Anyway, this time I did not process images when doing the upgrade of my personal library, because I wanted it to finish the task quickly. It did about 3 hours for some 40K photos.
I had been shooting RAW + jpg since I got my Leica D-LUX 4 in the hopes that Aperture would support it some day...and that day came!
Anyway, the .RWL RAW files show up in the browser view as black boxes with the warning triangle. They convert when you select them individually, and that was pretty much as expected.
What was cool though, was when I had opened an .RWL image into Split View, and then arrow key selected the next unprocessed image. Aperture displayed "Unsupported Picture Format" on top of a low res image that had really severe lens distortion for an instant in what appeared to be a 16:9 or longer aspect ratio image, then displayed the properly converted 4:3 RAW file.
This is obviously the lens correction processing that is part of the way the camera operates, and that A2 was incapable of converting correctly. I thought it worth mentioning that you can sort of see it at work in A3.
It is so great to have A3 do such a good job on these files, and be so responsive. Really enjoying getting to work with my Leica RAW files finally.
    THANKS APERTURE TEAM!
    Sincerely,
    K.J. Doyle

  • Suport for Leica D-Lux 4?

Hello, Does anyone know when there is likely to be support for the Leica D-Lux 4 camera's RWL files?
    TIA.
    - Vikas

It appears that the D-Lux 4 and LX3 have a barrel distortion issue which the cameras deal with internally for the JPGs and (I assume) Capture One and SilkyPix deal with in their conversions from RAW files for the respective camera. Would you have any insight as to whether this presents any obstacles for Adobe?

  • Aperture 3 fails to open Leica D-Lux 6 RAW files

Aperture 3 fails to open Leica D-Lux 6 RAW files. Any patch coming soon?

Sorry, but we don't know. This is a "User to User" forum - you are not talking to Apple.
You might consider to import "raw&jpeg" while you are waiting, so you will have the raw available, when the raw support will be released.
Or use the software, that came with your camera, to develope the raw and import tiff to Aperture, while you are waiting.

  • Camera Calibration Profile for Leica D-Lux Typ 109

I have Lightroom 5.7 with Camera Raw 8.7, both supposedly the latest versions, and yet I do not see any choices other than Adobe Standard under the Camera Calibration Profile menu. I have the newly supported Leica D-Lux Typ 109, and was expecting to see some camera specific choices in the Profile menu. Am I mistaken?

Most cameras only have an Adobe Standard profile:
492 camera models have Adobe Standard profile.
166 camera models have profiles in addition to Adobe Standard, mostly Canon, Nikon, Olympus and Sony.
The only Leica model that has more than an Adobe Standard profile is the M8.
