Length of a clip?

I'm making a sideshow with still slides. How do you change the length to make it longer?

To change an individual slide, click the clock icon on that slide.
To change all slides, click File/Project Properties

I am utilizing imovie 7.1 and I am trying to shorten the length of a clip.  How do I do that?

There are several ways to do this.
First, drag the clip from your Event to an iMovie Project.
In the Project, there are several options:
    1) Select the part of the clip you want to keep by dragging with your mouse. When you have it, right click within the selection and select "Trim to Selection". (You can also do this from the Edit Menu.)
    2) Select the part of the clip you want to cut by dragging with your mouse. When you have it, right-click within the selection and choose "Delete Selection". You can also do this from the Edit Menu.

  • Length of imported clips?

I have just begun to import movies from my camcorder and they all are defaulted at 9:28. Is there some reason for that, and is there any way to change the length of imported clips? That is such a basic question that I am surprised it is not prominently addressed.

Actually this WAS prominently discussed in these groups a LOT way back when. However you are talking about a version of iMovie that is now three versions back and that limitation was taken out with iMovie version 5 (only exists in iM4 and earlier). So no one talks about it anymore because most people are aware of it, except for the rare person who is actually NEW to iMovie4.

  • Adjust length of multiple clips?

Is it possible to easily adjust the length of multiple clips _simultaneously_?
I actually want to adjust the length of multiple stills and I know that a way to do it ís to adjust the default still length, and then *reimport* (this is crazy!) the pictures and then automate them to a sequence... but that is just so awkward.
    Grateful for any help!

Ah, it sure is a candidate!
In the audio sequencer Cakewalk Sonar there's a feature to adjust the length of selected (single/multiple) clips. You can select a percentage and then select if it's to affect the duration of clips or the start times, or both. (Both is great if you want to shorten them and still have them stay adjacent.)
So, a feature request it is! :)
Meanwhile, I'd suggest Adobe to take a good look at popular audio sequencers, there's _a lot_ of great & convenient features to mimic...

  • Length of video clip

I have used a dv camcorder and i know about the length of imported clips created every time imovie detects a pause but help me with this. I am going to connect an analog converter to a vhs vcr and my mac. Imovie will see it as a fw device. I will then click import. Can I import the vhs movie as one long
(maybe 1.5-2 hours) clip? Should I press pause on the vcr every several minutes? If I press pause its gonna be a long import session for me. I could buy the dvd version of the movie but I want to learn how to convert analog to digital. I have plenty of disc space and there will be only one fw connection-
    the dac 200 analog converter

I have used my camcorder as the converter and recorded all my VHS footage (home movies) to digital DV tapes and then imported those tapes into iMovie. I wanted to have the original footage in digital form to store because the VHS tapes were old and starting to degrade.
The DV tape footage imports as one long clip unless there are 'glitches' in the original VHS tape with skips, and then iMovie will start a new clip. You don't have to make any pauses with the VCR unless you want to, but shorter clips make editing a bit easier.
This explanation is for your home-movie use only, and is not meant to endorse recording/importing of copyrighted commercial movies.

  • Can i see the length of the clip writen on the clip?

    Hi
I want to know the length of each clip, when i look at the timeline (like in Avid), can i do that?

It's odd how that is staring you in the face and most of us completely miss it.
I noticed some info at the bottom during the weekend .. .. .. and promptly forgot about it.
Does any other info appear there apart from clip durations?

  • Why are there no Clip Lengths on each clip? (CS6)

Why are there no Clip Lengths on each clip, along with many other choosable clip attributes most all other editing programs offer?  I often need to glance at many clips at the same time and need to see their lengths relative to each other when editing commercials or programs with many many short cuts. precision is impossible without this identifier.

You are not getting bashed...and especially not because your are a recent arrival here...but you are getting opinions, questions and also an insight into others workflows. Thats what a Forum is for. ( Justwait till you meet Harm M. if you want to get really sensitive and reactive!)
Many longtime members of this site are well experienced with helping the "recent converts" who come in here and immediately have "issues" because its not "how it was done" in what ever NLE  they converted from. ( Usually FCP)
Usually the issues are unfounded and if they are... usually it is suggested that a "Feature Request" is made to Adobe ( with a Link).  We users are very well served by Adobe staff in here and often the suggestions are forum debated and taken on board as being worthy.
Could anyone actually  make Feature Requests to Apple and have them listen?
(Obviously not by virtue of history)

  • How can I make a synced audio track match the length of selected clips in a multicam seq?

I have a continuous multicam sequence of about 13 minutes containing a synced master audio track recorded from seperate microphones. I want to rearrange scenes from it into my final sequence, but when I select a range of clips to nest the entire length of audio gets pasted into the new sequence. I want to trim the audio to match just the clips I've selected but not lose sync. Is there a way to do this or is nesting not the way to chop up a sequence and rearrange the scenes in it?
    Thanks.
    Mike

Me too!!!  I have a multicam sequence from 2 cameras with the audio staying on camera 1. I also have a seperate, continuous  audio track recorded from microphones which I have synced to the timeline. I'm trying to select a group of sequential clips of different camera angles from the timeline to create scenes which I can insert into a final sequence but in a different order from how they are on the timeline. Let's say I want to take a series of clips that start at 3:30 on the timeline and go until 4:30 on the timeline.  It will contain several cuts between the different cameras and I want to use that section as the first scene of my new sequence. If I select all of the clips in that time period and nest them into a new sequence, I only get the audio from camera 1 on the new TL. If I try window selecting those clips to include the continuous audio track, I get a new TL with 3 minutes and 30 seconds of the desired audio, then the video clips, and then the rest of the audio making a 13 minute TL. I just learned, after searching around, about marking in and out points on my multicam seq. and using the trick of "LIFTing" and then "UNDOing" to keep my  multiseq intact, and then pasting into a new sequence. That works, but I'm only getting the audio track from off the camera. It won't select and lift the section of the other audio track that I want. I'm rushed for time so that's the way I've ended up finishing the video for now. The camera audio is just going to have to do although the mic recording is much better. The more I try to explain this the more confused I get and I'm sure everybody reading it does too. Any ideas?   Thanks!

  • Should be simple - how do I see the length of a clip?

I know "clip" isn't the right word — I'm talking about any movable fragment of audio, be it a loop or something I recorded or whatever. What are these fragments called, and where can I see how long it is in seconds?

The "clips" are called regions in GB - so much for nomenclature. The only way to determine the length is to switch the LED display to show real time (the clock symbol) and either to the math (subtract start time from end time) or move the region to the zero point briefly, read its length, and hit "undo" to put it back where it belongs.

  • Can't drag the length of photo clip

hi, i used to be able to adjust the length of the photo by dragging it, but now it doesn't work. the pointer doesn't change anymore. what am i doing wrong?

Hi zulusibs - welcome to the forum!
Have you unchecked the View>Show Clip Volume Levels? It will only work with that un-selected.

  • Using iMovie 08 - importing a non commercial DVD that is 1 hr 30 long - a concert. When imported it is divided into 5min clips as default. I need to be able to choose the length of the clips as often intros of songs/ends are being seperated. Thoughts?

The movie (which is a concert) is being divided automatically into 5 min clips when imported. This inevitabley separates some intros and endings from the main part of a song. Is there a way to manually choose clip lengths before importing into iMovie - or sticking clips back together to create my own events or chapters?
I have copied the DVD of the concert onto my desktop using disk utility creating a .dmg file.
Complete novice with video - but would prefer not to have to spend money on a different programme if possible.

  • Why Does My Mp3 Audio Behind Video Clip Cut To Length Of Video Clip?

Ok. So I am trying to put together a music video using iMovie 11, and am having the hardest time getting started. I put my selected video clip up on the dashboard to get ready to cut as well as edit the footage. When i put the Mp3(Song) on the dashboard it automatically cuts to the length of the amount of video footage that is on the dashboard at that time. I have tried to lengthen the duration of the mp3 using the settings feature given on the audio clip, but it automatically jumps back to the duration of the amount of video clip. Ultimately I am trying to lengthen my duration, and have my mp3 the full length of the song to stay for the whole project, which gives me room and a real chance to work with my clips. I figure that it is something very conspicuous that I am missing. I'm sure it is just a minor issue, and would love if somebody could help assist me with this problem. Please, and thank you your time is much appreciated.

    Hey Matt,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you’re trying to add an audio track to your iMovie project but you’re running into an issue adjusting the length of the track. If you haven't already, try making audio waveforms visible in the Project browser as shown in the article linked below.
iMovie '11: Set the beginning and end of a sound or music clip
    Using audio waveforms:
With audio waveforms visible in the Project browser, you can modify aspects of all the sound elements in your project in the same window. This feature is especially useful if you have many changes to make to your project’s audio.
These instructions apply to modifying the startpoints and endpoints of audio you’ve added to your project, or audio you’ve detached from video. These instructions don’t apply to modifying the audio recorded with, and still attached to, your video, or to modifying background music you’ve added.
With your project open, click the Audio Waveform button below the Project browser.
Waveforms for each of the sound elements in your project appear in green, blue, or purple bands below the video clips. Blue waveforms represent the sound that was recorded with your video. Green waveforms represent sounds and music you’ve added to your project. Purple waveforms represent voiceovers or audio that was detached from a video clip. Names appear in the top-left corner of each green or purple waveform to make it easy to identify them.
Select the sound clip you want to trim by clicking its name at the top of its waveform; the clip becomes outlined in yellow.
Move your pointer over either end of the clip so that it turns into a resize pointer (if the clip has a jagged edge, it means the clip is split onto two lines), and then do one or both of the following:
To set where the sound clip starts playing, drag its left edge to the right or left.
To set where the sound clip stops playing, drag its right edge to the right or left.
    Cheers.
    -Jason

  • Adjusting Length of music clip

I'm doing a slide show with photos. I loaded my photos and added music. Now I want to adjust the length of the music. I have pinned the music but when I try dragging the end of the music clip to the left to make the music shorter the entire music block moves, it doesn't reduce in size. Example: Let's say the beginning of the music is pinned over photo 25 and it stretches all the way to photo 50 but I want it to stop at photo 40 when I try dragging it and moving the end to photo 40 the beginning of the clip moves and is now over photo 15 instead of 25 and the music clip is as long as ever.

  • How do I set the length of each clip?

I have just begun trying to build a video with Premiere Elements 10
I have created many videos with Windows Movie Maker..found it boring for Effects etc.that's why I have this new software.
Now my question is ..How do I  set the time for each clip?
I like to add a clip that goes with each lyric in the song.
    Thanks.

    Welcome to the forum.
As Steve points out, that is "editing."
One can use either of two Tools in PrE, to Trim the Clip to suit.
First, one can Dbl-click on the Clip in the Project Panel to open it in the Source Monitor, which looks a bit like the Program Monitor, but it has the In & Out Point settings. When that Clip has been Trimmed, as needed in the Source Monitor, just drag it to the Timeline.
Or, one can drag the Clip to the Timeline, and then click+drag on the Head of the Clip to set its In Point, and on the Tail, to set the Out Point.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Approx. length of video clip being exported?

Is there anything to change in my settings to see the approx. length of the movie/project I am exporting? I actually used this in my CS3 but don't see it in CS5.
    Thank you,
    Tony

I was exporting AVI's and in CS3 it still gave the file size.
Man, it's been so long since I even looked at CS3, I can't even recall what it looked like! I do seem to remember someone else bringing this up, though, when they moved from CS3.
Practically speaking, though, if you're exporting to an AVI or MOV, you don't so much care about file size because those are either intermediates or final delivery formats for something like broadcast--they are what they are. With delivery formats--either for web or optical disc--you're typically working with capacity or bandwidth constraints, so file size estimates are more important there. I don't know if this is part of the rationale behind the disappearance of these calculations in CS5, but it sure sounds good
