  • Lenovo 3000 Y500 Booting problems

    Hey Everyone,
Two days back I have tried to install Ubuntu onto my lenovo 3000 y500  Intel Celeron M 1.73 Ghz, 512 MB ram and Hitachi HTS541612J9SA00-S1 120Gb SATA HDD.During the installation something went wrong and the booting could not be completed from the live cd.After I rebooted the BIOS screen (with Lenovo logo) is getting displayed and the system is continously restarting. The OS boot screen is not loading.
Out of curiosity I had removed my hard drive and tried to boot the system with no hard drive through a live cd and it booted for sometime and it hung.I had also connected my hdd to another desktop and tried to install ubuntu on it and the installation worked fine and the desktop booted with ubuntu installed on it.
To check my motherboard I used a similar hard drive from an other y500 series laptop and booted the system succesfully. So the motherboard was working fine.
As a final desperate attempt I had downloaded a BIOS update (thinking that it is a BIOS problem) for Lenovo 3000 N100 and flashed my bios with it.Then the system booted fine with my hdd (with ubuntu on it) but my no hardware was being detected correctly.SO i restored my old bios back and the problem continues.
Kindly let me know if there is any BIOS update for Lenovo 3000 Y500 that can rectify this problem. My current BIOS is Phoenix trusted core version 2.04.Kindly suggest any other reasons that might cause this problem
    Thank you

Three days back I have tried to install Ubuntu onto my lenovo 3000 y500  Intel Celeron M 1.73 Ghz, 512 MB ram and Hitachi 80 gb SATA HDD.During the installation something went wrong and the booting could not be completed from the live cd.After I rebooted the BIOS screen (with Lenovo logo) is getting displayed and the system is continously restarting. The OS boot screen is not loading.
the hard drive running better with every laptop & destop. & my laptop is working fine with another 80 to 160  gb sata. please give me different bios version.
    thanks

  • Pls i need help for audio driver for lenovo 3000 j series

i did format to my computer and reinstall windows XP and now i don't have audio, i already downloaded all drivers from lenovo website and nothing is working. pls pls help. thank's.

If you are using Windows Vista go to All Programs/Palm and click on the folder and select Hot Sync Manager and then try to sync with the USB cable. If you are using the Windows XP go to Start/Programs/Palm/Hot Sync Manager and then try to sync. If you don’t have the palm folder at all on your PC you have to install it. Here is the link http://kb.palm.com/wps/portal/kb/common/article/33219_en.html that version 4.2.1 will be working for your device Zire 72.

  • Lenovo 3000 H series computer boots up to a small blinking blue square on a black screen

The computer powers on but after the Lenovo screen, the screen goes blank with a small blinking blue square on the left hand side and that's it?
Anyone experienced this and know what could be the problem?

How long have you had this PC? HDD's usually do good to get 5 years of usage out of them. Some good HDD's can last a few years longer. But it does look like your HDD's is corrupt and may be dying on you.
Windows can be reinstalled over itself and will rename and put the old files in a .old folder for you to go through. But yours is dying all together from the looks of it.

  • CE Utility Diskette for Lenovo 3000 series ???

    Hello
I'm searching for this Lenovo Tool ...
Which was described in the Lenovo 3000 Hardware Maintenance Manual
    Can everybody help me ??
    Thanx
    Frankmen

    frankmen, welcome to the forum,
I wasn't aware that any Business Partners in Germany are allowed to provide warranty service on 3000 or IdeaPad systems, please correct me if I'm wrong on this; it would be interesting to know.
Being a business partner you will be able to contact your Lenovo representative who will certainly be able to put you in touch with the person(s) to speak to about this.
Also, if anyone were to post a link to the utility from these forums it would be immediately removed by moderators.

In the end, all that I can learn from this is that stuff don't work, not why or how to fix it. A bit annoying to be blunt.
I've been googling around for answers, but the closest thing I've come to an answer, and I do hope it isn't true, is that sli om mobile nvidia gpu is not supported under linux. I've been unable to confirm this.
I do hope you can help.
    Best regards.

    Do not do this.
If you want help, start providing relevant information beyond "it don't work".  You say you followed the instructions ... which instructions?  What steps did you take?  It is clear from your xorg.conf that you did not follow the only instructions I could find in the archlinux wiki.  Follow those instructions, and post the output of the relevant diagnostic or information-gathering steps included there.
Also if you have information which could be useful - such as which mobile devices/cards allegedly don't work - then share that.  Don't keep us in the dark.
I should think that it's quite obvious that I've followed the wiki instruction, which basically is one line in xorg, as is the official nvidia instructions.
This is most likely a problem related specificlally to the gt 650m and/or the lenovo ideapad y500 (and perhaps derivatives thereof).
I do not believe I've left any information out.
Of course if I've done something wrong, I apologize and will do my best to avoid it in the future. As for the rest, I'd very much like to know which instructions I did not follow, as I've done all that I can think of and telling me that I haven't is hardly useful. As far as I aware, the wiki instructs you to  ad two line in the xorg.conf, which I've done. I will of course read it again, hoping to figure out what I've apparently missed, though I've read it so many times already that I don't expect to learn anything.

  • Lenovo 3000 N200 0769 - could I strap a Video Card on it?

    Hi there,
I know this question's been asked before, but I have not found an answer that's relevant to me. I have a 3000 N200 series, version 0769. the original Specs are: Windows Vista Home edition, CPU Intel Celeron 550 2.0 Ghz, 1GB RAM, 160 GB HDD, Onboard Video from the Intel 965M Chipset (64Mb dedicated).
Now, from the original specs, I've upgraded to another 1 GB RAM (identical) and an Intel T7100 Dual-core 1.8 Ghz CPU, and I'm now running Windows 7 32-bit. The reason I've upgraded to the T7100 is because I've seen a variant of the N200 with this CPU.
My question is: Do I have the capability to upgrade my graphics card? I know that some of the 0769 variants have antoher version of the graphics card, I think a 256 MB GeForce. Could I get anything like that up on mine ? Or have I hit the wall when it comes to upgrades?
Please help me, I need a better graphics performance ASAP (work stuff). Also, I don't have the cash for a new notebook (possibly a new motherboard and/or Graphics Card, but no more than that).
    Thank you!!

Well, you can't upgrade graphics without swapping the
motherboard for one with Nvidia graphics, which also
had a different heatsink setup to handle extra heat from
GPU. So I doubt a swap would work without modification.
Used motherboard swaps, IMO, are not cost effective.
Ram could go up to 4 GB, with 3 being a good compromise,
and cpu to Core 2 Duo T7500, which would be too minor
a boost over T7100, unless you can find one Cheap.
Probably other cpus that were added later also.
My opinion? Put the money towards a good used laptop
    with the specs you need/want.
Oh, and the weak bios? There are some bios modding communities
out there, but that is a high risk adventure! See this post for an example:

  • How Do I Downgrade From Windows Vista To XP On A 3000 N100 Series Notebook?

Hello. Here is the problem. I have Windows Vista Pre-loaded on my 3000 N100 Notebook, absolutely dislike this operating system and want to erase and load Windows XP. From reading other forum messages I have learned several things.
    1) The install disk On Windows XP Home & Professional will not recognize Sata Hard Drives, when it reaches the point of loading where it looks for the hard drive it "BOMBS OUT" with error messages.
    Several options are open .............
    1) Log into the BIOS, locate the SATA option, and change to compatibility mode.
    2) Have a USB external floppy connected with a Sata Driver on it and when installing Windows XP press the "F6" button when Windows asks for any external drivers you want to load.
Here is the problem with the 3000 N100 Notebook series..........
1)There is "NO SATA OPTION" in the BIOS of the 3000 N100 series notebooks to choose. In this model Lenovo stripped the BIOS down to the bare essentials.......and I Do Mean.... "BARE". The latest BIOS upgrade also has no Sata option. Why they did not offer at least this choice of downgrading to XP is beyond me. LENOVO..... I'm not impressed with your notebook.  As usual.... Microsoft has all vendors jumping to their tune..... Nothing but "VISTA" at this point in time. What if you hate it??????
    2) I have hunted all over the Lenovo Web Site for a "SATA DRIVER" that would work with a 3000 N100 Notebook, no such critter exists.  LENOVO..... Couldn't you have at least offered this????  I'M NOT IMPRESSED.
Has anyone been able to downgrade to Windows XP successfully on a 3000 N100 Series Notebook??? How Did You Do It?? Has Anyone Located A "SATA DRIVER" That Works???  IF So, Please Explain To Me Step-By-Step How I Can Get Rid of Vista and Load XP.
    Help........Help.......Help........Help......Help!!!!!!!!!!!
    Regards

Hello Himleung. Thank you for answering this message. Where did you find a "Sata Hard Drive Driver" that works?? Perhaps you could pass that along to this message forum in case someone else that has a 3000 N100 (may also work with the N200 series) Notebook wants to downgrade from Vista to Windows XP.
This is what baffles me to no end. The Lenovo web site has every driver you need to load Windows XP on the notebook.....**EXCEPT**..... the Sata HD Driver......**OR**...... the ability in BIOS to change to "compatability mode".  Duh!!!..... whats wrong with this story. I have never seen such a weak BIOS as the one in the 3000 N100. If I had known this I probably would have gone to another brand. They should have advertised this notebook as...... "Non-Geek Compatible".
Not knowing exactly how you could forward the driver to me I did the following....... I created a new Web email location that you could use to send the driver as an email attachment. The address is....... [email protected] This address will exist just long enough to obtain the driver..... and then......"Hasta-La-Vista" baby......end of story......as I do not want to be bombarded with ads, trash, or perhaps a virus of some sort..... although.....I'm SURE we have GREAT PEOPLE on this message center.
I'm not familiar with the "NLITE" program you mentioned. Again....perhaps you could mention where I can get it and what I need to do to set the program up to run the driver.
    Thanks again, Himleung.

  • Tried to install XP Pro, Deleted Restore Partition, Now Lenovo 3000 = Useless Paperweight

I ordered a Lenovo 3000 K100 57068347 from TigerDirect back in April with the intention of using it as a remote help desk workstation and a virus definition 'server'...
Well anyway, it shipped with Vista Home Premium, and I was much more interested in having XP on it for obvious reasons.
Last night, I attempted to install XP by booting off an XP Pro SP2 volume install CD. Everything was going well until it tried to load the HDD controller drivers and the install bluescreened -- I've had this experience with other Lenovos in the past and I know just to disable ACHI and set it to "compatible" IDE mode and it will work.
This time, all the drivers loaded without a problem, and the install began. I got to the screen where you choose the partition to install, and I chose to delete the first 2, and leave the restore partition alone. I wanted a clean XP install with as much HDD space as possible while still leaving me a parachute instead I needed to restore to factory default.
Problem was, once the system rebooted to continue the XP install, I got a "cannot read from disk -- press ctrl-alt-del to restart" in BIOS. No matter how many different ways I tried to configure the ATA options in the BIOS, I kept either getting a blue screen (when in ACHI mode) or the message above (when configured any other way).
Like an idiot, I thought -- "hey, maybe the restore partition is causing some conflict" and in haste, I deleted that partition too, thinking "there's no way I can't get a XP install on this totally clean drive." Well of course you know by virtue of me posting this message that didn't solve anything, and I kept getting the "cannot read from disk -- push ctrl-alt-del to restart" message.
So I decided... might as well use the restore DVD that came with the system and start over. This is where I started to hit the roof..... I booted off the LENOVO-PROVIDED VISTA SYSTEM RESTORE DVD, and when I got to the "choose a disk/partition to install to," I selected the now clean 298gb partition, and clicked next.
Imagine my shock and horror when the install gave me an error that "Windows cannot find a suitable volume to install." Keep in mind, I'm staring a brand new clean 298gb partition in Windows install, and it's telling me it cannot find a suitable volume to install to. At the bottom, there was another error message that said (paraphrased) "This system may not be able to boot off the selected disk." This makes me think again that it doesn't have the correct driver to boot off the disk.
I tried it in ACHI mode, IDE compatible mode.... again trying every possible combination to get it to work. Nothing. Then I remembered -- "Ahh the Vista driver pack CD" that also came with the restore DVD. Pop that in, choose "load driver" for the disk, scan the entire CD, NOTHING....
So, to make a long story longer, I now have a $500 Dual Core 1.6ghz 3gb 300gb paperweight sitting under my desk. I can't boot off and install using the XP CD, I can't boot off and install using the Lenovo restore DVD, and I can't even boot off and install Vista Ultimate off a DVD that I had.
    Can anyone tell me:
    1) What the hell drivers do I need to make the XP install work? I would REALLY like XP above all else.
    2) Why the hell doesn't the Lenovo system restore DVD work? Why would Vista not be able to boot off and install the disk when it's the manufacturer-provided disk to restore your system to factory state??
    3) (more of a side note) Why does my serial number display as "invalid" in BIOS and also as "invalid" when I attempt to enter it on the Lenovo support site? This scares the hell out of me -- if I call, they're probably just going to tell me it's invalid. Can I get support from ANYWHERE with this issue? I'm not very happy with Lenovo at this point (but I'm just looking for a scapegoat to blame my own haste on)
    Help!!

My apologies for the frustration that you have felt with your system.  I just want to let you know that this is not a normal experience and I will help as much as possible to get you back towards having a working system.  My experience with these boxes is rather limited since we do not normally see many escalations on them here but I will do my best to answer your concerns/issues.
    1)  The support site is still segmented a bit for the Lenovo IdeaCentre and Ideapad systems.  For your K series desktop you have to go here to get drivers/support docs.  All the available drivers should be downloadable from this link.  Unfortunately I don't see any XP Drivers listed for that system however.  You may have to locate drivers from the chipset manufacturers sites themselves if you want to go with a retail copy of XP.  I've also found that the latest service pack for XP contains updates to many drivers and may contain the ones you need.
    2)  Your Recovery CD set should work.  Have you tried booting off of the first CD?  What errors are you encountering?
    3)  have you recently had anything that could have wiped out the BIOS settings?  I'm curious because normally the machine type and serial are loaded from the factory.
    4)  For your XP Installation it appears that you got all of the XP files installed on the drive but when you rebooted it then lost site of the HDD?  Is it seen in the BIOS?  If so you may just have a Master Boot record that got scrambled.  You can run FDISK /MBR using a XP Boot diskette and that should fix the issue if that is the source.  You'll know its fixed if you get the xp logo soon after you reboot.
I would suggest that you contact the Consumer support line and get the system serviced ASAP.  They can get the serial number loaded properly, fix the startup sequence problem it appears your having, and get the system reloaded properly.

You warranty will remain as it is, even if you replace, upgrade some parts of the system.
Opening the computer and adding parts does not affect the warranty, only damages during the upgrade/replacement will not be covered.
Just be extra careful while replacing the parts or opening the computer.
