Lenovo A730 with Samsung SSD 840EVO msata, issues to get disk in windows explorer, windows 8.1

Hello everyone,
I have bought an Samsung SSD 840EVO Msata 250GB for my ideacenter A730.
I have installed the harddisk as in instructions and have found the disk in my bios and can move it in the boot sequence.
Once i start the pc and try to find the disk, its not in my configuration screen nor disk manager.
I have windows 8.1 installed
I have tried several changes in bios and read some at the help how to get the disk. In the disk manager in windows it will not show anything besides my internal 2.5 hdd and dvdplayer.
Can anyone give me some advise how to get this beauty of an SSD to work.

Perhaps this thread can be of assistance to you:
Installing mSATA SSD as secondary drive in Lenovo A730
Other things that you can try:
1. Remove the stock HDD and install the mSATA SSD
2. Set the following in the BIOS (if applicable) and check if the SSD is detected.
Security Tab
Secure Boot = Disabled
CSM = Enabled
Exit Tab:
OS Optimized Defaults = Other OS / Disabled
3. If the mSATA SSD is detected under the BIOS, boot from the Windows startup USB, open a command prompt and throw this commands:
list disk
sel disk 0 (where disk 0 is the SSD)
clean (this will wipe the drive and initialize it)
exit
4. Turn off the machine, re-insert the stock HDD and boot from it. If it boots fine into Windows and you now see the SSD, try to clone it again, remove the stock HDD and make the mSATA SSD as your primary boot drive and see if it'll boot without issues.
If the above steps doesn't work, you may need to consider getting a Windows 8 retail disk and to clean install Windows on the mSATA SSD.

Issues with Samsung SSD after Mavericks

I bought a Samsung SSD 830 in the Summer of 2011 (for my Mid 2010 MacBook Pro), and it's been working fantastically until I upgraded to Mavericks. What's peculiar is that my computer works fine when it's plugged in to my Time Machine external HD via Airport. When I disconnect it from my home setup to take it elsewhere, it stops responding after some time. What I mean is that none of my open files (e.g., Word) are able to save, and when I click Finder, it's completely blank and can't take me to any of my folders. Likewise, in the spotlight search, when I try to find a program or file, it does not show me anything aside from a possible definition of the word which I searched from Dictionary.
I contacted Samsung not too long ago and the tech support guy said that the SSD isn't as good on Macs as it is on PCs, and that I may better be better off returning to the optical HD (which I do not desire to do).
It's important that I mention no problems with hardware (I brought my laptop to the Apple store and they did not see any damage with wiring and etc. for my HD). Likewise, all the diagnostic tests come in just fine. I also upgraded my RAM to 8 GBs around the same time as installing the HD.
If the Samsung is truly a lost cause, what would be a recommendation for another quality SSD for my Mac on Maverics?
Hopefully there is light at the end of this tunnel!

Since the problem was fixed you should do a clean install this time of Mavericks 10.9.1
You would need to find out which application / program you install on your clean MacBook Pro makes your system slow and stop responding.

Replacement of Toshiba SSD (2.5") with Samsung SSD (1.8")

Hi,
I have a lenovo w510 4318-CTR and I wanted to have my toshiba 128GB SSD (2.5") replaced with something that could support TRIM. I just got the package from Lenovo and it turns out they sent me a 1.8" Samsung SSD. What should I do now? The caddys with the adapter that are sold online cost over $40 bucks and I don't really wanna pay for that. Does lenovo have any other 2.5" SSD that are not toshiba?

Samsung SSD 840EVO not booting from macbook pro mid 2012 after cloning

Hello there,
I guess i'm so stuck with the SSD that i have purchased.
Here is the details:
SSD - Samsung SSD 840 Evo 250GB
MacBook Pro - 13-inch, Mid 2012
Model Identifier: MacBookPro9,2
Processor 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB
Software OS X 10.9.1 (13B42)
Boot ROM Version: MBP91.00D3.B08
SMC Version (system): 2.2f44
I was running with the factory HDD (toshiba 500gb) and thought of replacing it with an SSD . Tried a clean installation of mavericks at first using Bootable USB drive having mavericks. So i went on and installed the ssd replacing the HDD i had and went on to boot up from the USB, prior the installtion i tired to partition it first with single partition MAC os extended journaled with GUID table. But then it did partition but after that it says trying to reinitialize the drive and it never came back although i tried more than five times. So then i went back to my HDD and tired cloning it to SSD using Carbon Copy Cloner, but even for that i had to do the partitioning which failed. Finally i had to go and return back that peice and they gave me another one convincing me that it might a defective peice.
Now, with the second one, at first i booted up my HDD normally and connected the new SSD the USB/sata converter and i successfully partitioned and using carbon copy cloner, i have cloned as well. Now to make sure if its all ok, before replacing the HDD in the main compartment, i just selected the startup disk as the new SSD and restarted the system... it booted up fine like a cheetah... was all gud... i thought everything is pretty fine. Then ofcourse i went ahead and replaced the HDD and powered up the system again, but then it's not booting up... it gives you that folder with ? mark and that's all...
And then i tried some other ways too... i even checked the firmware versions and i guess they are upto date as well. I just dont get the reason why it's not working.
Please help me.

X220 with Samsung SSD 830: Success? Full Disk Encryption (FDE)?

1. Have any of you tried installing a Samsung SSD 830 Series drive in the X220, and if so can you recommend or dis-recommend?
2. Can anyone definitively verify whether or not the SSD 830 drives support full disk encryption? I see conflicting information about that on the internet...

I have finally gotten an answer from Samsung regarding encryption. Sounds like hardware FDE is only supported on the OEM version, not on the consumer version:
My Question:
Does the SSD 830 (Notebook 256G version: MZ-7PC256N) support Full Disk Encryption (FDE) with a password through the BIOS? I read on the web that your enterprise version of this product does support FDE, but it's not clear whether or not that is also supported on the consumer version.
Their Response:
Dear Customer...The retail market 830 series SSD does not natively support FDE. Only OEM version of the unit have the encryption placed. Samsung recommends the use of programs to encrypt the data on the drive... Thank You for choosing Samsung.

After Firefox update, pages are redirected whenever I type a letter or try to enter url, different redirects based on letter I type. Opens a windows explorer window, goes to original login, opens Start/Run window with cmd in box etc.

Please send some advice if you have any ideas of how to solve this issue.

Certain typed letters don't show up at all when trying to enter a 'comment' on Facebook while various letters get various different responses. It is impossible to enter any URL or use my browser other than the items in my drop down. Once there, say to my bank account, I cannot enter any password as I am immediately redirected to someplace else upon trying to type a letter or character. I don't know how to get my browser working. I have tried IE as well and the same thing happens. All started after the supposed upgrade of Firefox. Your help would be appreciated. Thank you.

It should look like this...
Open Windows explorer, select Photo Stream under Favorites on the left sidebar:
Click on Photo Stream, then to the right double-click on My Photo Stream. Click on Add Photos on the top the menu bar:
Select the photos you want to import, then click Open.

Lenovo N100 with Intel Sound Card (Speakers Issue)

I was trying to deal with it but no luck on finding any info. The issue is that then I plug external speakers the laptop ones don't mute.

I have very similar problem, my speakers are working, but if I want plug headphones into jack plug-in is nothing happen, speakers are still playing and I couldnt hear anything in headphones.

It was simple problem. I had to recompile kernel without ALSA and install the newest alsa-drivers 1.0.14rc1. Now is working. I hope that this will add to Arch, because this what I've done is unusual and temporary.

When I am running Firefox I am unable to open folders and files with Windows Explorer (Windows 7). This is so frustrating and all attempts to fix have been unsuccesful

There is a clash with Windows 7 and Firefox that prevents one opening files and folders.

Samsung SSD shows 40 MB/s.. Why?

Hi I have T400, I replaced main HDD with Samsung SSD mmcqe28gfmup. It has to be 200 MB/s according to the data sheet.
I use Lenovo official uSATA-SATA adapter.
I read discussion about Intel chipset limiting SATA to 1.5 GB/s... I understand that real performance figures must be around 200 MB/s with this limitation anyway.
Why do I have 1/5 of it ???
Please help!! It costed me a lot of dough to get it and now is only 5% better than my old HDD!!
P.S. I used passmark.com for benchmarking... but still I compared figures to the old HDD so that should be accurate I suppose...

IdeaPad U330 - Replacing the SSHD with an SSD = no bootable device found

Hi,
I have the original SSHD (Seagate 500 Gig) with Windows 8 that I would like to replace with :
Samsung SSD 840 PRO Series (256 Gig) with Windows 8 already installed and running on it.
When I put the Samsung SSD in my Lenovo Ideapad Ultrabook U330, BIOS tells me there is no bootable device found.
Can someone please explain this, I am SO desperate T_T

Both Windows are Windows 8.1 64 bits
The SSD is working perfectly when placed in my Desktop computer

I did not provide the Windows 8 CD key on for SSD yet (but I have it)
I have tried rebooting with Safe boot disabled, Legacy settings, disabling Win8 OS optimization...no success
I have a bootable Windows 8.1 on an external HDD, I can boot on it everywhere...except on the Lenovo Ideapad and I have no clue why the disk is not supported here.
Usually, on the SSD, I plug the SATA cable but there is also another connector next to it. I noticed the SSHD in the Lenovo laptop didn't have any connector on it. Maybe my SSD requires to be connected using both slots (the SATA one, and the one next to it ?)
Should I update my BIOS ? Should I reformat the SSD ? Should I go back to the Bios Firm settings ?
I have been looking at some forum threads, but there doesn't seem to be any clear procedure to cope with this problem...
UPDATE :
From the BIOS, after disabling secure boot, selecting "Legacy" and "Legacy First" in the boot mode section allows me to boot on my USB HDD

Just use disk management (winkey + x, select disk management). Select the leftmost portion of the disk drive and right click. Select properties. Select volumes. You will see the partition style of the disk that you have selected.

PROBOOK and SAMSUNG SSD 850 EVO DISK problems

I have connected HP ProBook 470 G2 i7 processor with SAMSUNG SSD 850 EVO 500 GB via SATA3 to USB3 adapter (STLAB). SSD disk is not detected by windows 7 (win explorer) neither by samsung magition SW.
Is it possible to solve this.

Does the drive show in Disk Management?
Does it show as 'offline'? This sometimes happens with 'external' drives.
If it is 'offline' just right click 'offline' and chose 'online' from the menu.

What is the solution to save over a file with Windows Explorer preview pane open?

(This is a stagnant issue in an alternate thread and did not address the issue directly.) Every time I make a minor change to a document, I am forced to write a new file to save it. This is cumbersome, annoying and wasteful. I am an architect and I quite regularly need to have several windows explorer windows and pdf files open at once when coordinating information from several different places. It is not practical for me to turn off my preview pane or close every explorer window. How can I avoid saving every document new even when making a minor change?

From the other post you link too, I can confirm that both the Root and Subordinate CA have been commissioned with the:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\CertSvc\Configuration\IssuingCA\CSP\AlternateSignatureAlgorithm = 1
registry key set. As can be seen above, the Signature algorithm on an issued certificate is RSASSA-PSS. This is been Microsoft suggested deployment IF you do not wish to support either XP or Windows 2003 machine and lower. In fact, I believe the option has been around since Windows 2008, however, there were of course, a lot more XP machines back then.
The obvious answer is that we would like to maintain the updated algorithm, AND see support for it added for Firefox. I think you will see a LOT more posts like this as people deploy more 2012 PKI infrastructure supporting only Windows 7 and up. Heavens, we may well be forced to Chrome or even back to IE!!! Whilst I do not what to necessary open up other potential vulnerabilities, for the sake of testing, what do you mean by disabling mozilla:pkix?
